Autumn is fast approaching, so a great way to bring the warm and cozy feeling into your home is with these easy fall basket decorating ideas. Using natural elements or picking up pieces at the store are ideas for what to place in your baskets to decorate your home.

Fall decorating with baskets

Every year I bring little touches of autumn into our home in late August or early September, and one of my favorites is adding baskets. These fall basket decorating ideas will give you inspiration on what to place in your baskets, and you can also use many of these ideas to give as gift baskets for fall. I can't wait to share some of my favorite ways to decorate with baskets.

Fall Basket Decorating Ideas

When thinking about fall decorating and baskets, consider nature and what changes occur outside. The leaves change into warm reds, yellows, and browns. Leaves fall off trees, and many branches are exposed. Pumpkins, wheat, and apples are in season, and cozy blankets are brought out to stay warm inside. If you think about the changes in nature during the fall season, you are on the right track to what to put in baskets for fall. Let's discuss the baskets best for fall decorating and where to get them.

Best Baskets for Fall Decorating

What kinds of baskets make great fall decorating baskets? Wicker of any kind will work, corded baskets and harvest baskets are nice too, but bushel baskets have autumn written all over them so they are a great idea. So if you have any of these baskets in your home, you are set to decorate them for fall.

If you don't have any of these baskets and need suggestions on where to purchase baskets and seasonal items, a few of my favorite places to shop are the dollar store, thrift stores, Etsy online, the dollar section at any store, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, Marshalls, and search online.

Now let's talk about what to put in these beautiful baskets to transform your house into a cozy fall aesthetic.

What Should I Put In A Fall Basket

Look at natural materials or anything that helps us stay warm and cozy as decorations for your fall baskets. Here is a list of the best fall basket decorating ideas.

Now that we have a list of items to place in your baskets, let us talk about how to decorate fall baskets.

Decorating a Basket with Fall Foliage

Let's begin with fall foliage because this can be achieved with natural or faux foliage. This basket hanging on my mantel is a great example of adding fall foliage to a basket.

Fall foliage added to a basket

I gathered artificial fall branches and flowers from Target's Hearth and Hand section and simply tucked them into my baskets. This is an easy way to bring the fall season indoors. I added more decor to my fall mantel, which I discuss in my DIY fall decorating ideas post.

Another fall foliage basket decorating idea is adding mums to your baskets. Last year in our entryway, I placed white mums in my market basket as a decoration. It was a fun way to welcome guests and share out love of the fall season. These fall porch decorating ideas are bright and cheery.

Fall basket decorations

This design can easily fall into decorating a basket with leaves, so consider it in both areas. But for this post, I have another fun idea.

Pumpkin Decor for Baskets

The most traditional decoration for fall is pumpkins, and I have a very simple and easy idea.

Take a basket and fill the bottom with grocery bags. Then set any color pumpkin onto the bags. I used white pumpkins of different sizes, but you can use real pumpkins and any color. In my basket are tiny pumpkins and small pumpkins.

Pumpkins inside basket for fall decoration

You can sit your basket of pumpkins anywhere in your home. I placed mine on my bookcase but they can go on a table, kitchen counter or coffee table. You can also fill a bushel basket with apples and pears too. There's no end to the great places these baskets can be placed.

Decorating Baskets with Leaves

While on my early morning walks, I saw the first signs of fall on the ground when I found these beautiful red and yellow leaves. I had so much fun picking them up until I couldn't wait to use them to add that warm glow to our home decor.

Simply gather natural autumn-colored leaves and lay them out to dry for a few hours. Then toss them into a shallow bowl for decorations on a table in your home.

Decorating baskets with fall leaves

Then, drop the wooden bowl into a corded bowl to make your decoration even more autumnal. Layering bowls and baskets are a neat way to add texture and design.

Decorating Baskets with Blankets

I think baskets say warm and cozy more than anything else. The idea to add blankets to your home decor for fall makes a pretty decoration but is functional too.

Simply use a throw blanket that match fall colors like grays, browns, amber browns, golden yellow, and rust red. Roll them, fold them or toss them into a basket. If you have pumpkins or mums, set them close by for an even more fall aesthetic like I did with this large basket on the hearth.

Basket Decorating with Candles

Candles make a great decoration for baskets and there are so many different ways to use them. They are beautiful for decorations and make a great gift basket stuffer. Here is an easy example of using candles to decorate your basket for fall.

Place a pretty fall wreath inside of a round basket and then add candles in the middle. This is a simple fall centerpiece idea or would look nice on any table.

Decorating Baskets with Autumn Books

Using books with an autumn feeling is another great way to add fall to your baskets. Set a basket tray on your coffee table or any table and place books with a fall vibe inside.

Old books inside of basket tray

You can use nature books, books filled with autumnal colors but make sure the outside of the book has the color scheme you are looking for in your holiday home decor.

Once you have your books in place, set accessories on top to continue your fall aesthetic. I used different size bottles on mine and added fall flowers to a vase.

Decorating Basket with Pine Cones

When decorating your baskets with any fall decor, you can fill in spots with pine cones or fill a basket with pinecones.

Decorating for fall with pinecones and baskets

I like to hunt for pinecones outside to add to my decor, but you can also find them online or in stores. Simply fill a small bushel basket or wicker basket with pinecones and include it with your other decorations.

Decorating Fall Baskets with Cotton

Remember me mentioning using anything that harvests in the fall for your basket decorations? Cotton is a common crop that harvests in fall, so it is another perfect addition to your autumn baskets.

Simply add cotton into your fall foliage, pinecones, around candles, or place a whole bushel inside a basket.

Fall Basket Decorating with Fairy Lights

Last, here is a simple way to add sparkle and a warm glow to your autumn decor. Simply take battery-powered fairy lights and tuck them into your autumn baskets.

For example, you can place fairy lights inside a fall floral arrangement basket or a basket full of leaves. It looks so pretty and at night creates a warm cozy feeling inside your home. The warm glow at night will make your home feel cozy and inviting.

Final Thoughts

Autumn basket decorations are so pretty to add to your decor this time of year. Baskets, in general, are fun to decorate during any season or holiday.

If you are looking for a budget-friendly way to decorate for autumn, adding natural elements is an amazing way to give your home a fall aesthetic. This way of decorating is also great if you live in a home or apartment that doesn't have much storage because everything can be discarded.

But if you want decor that you can easily bring out year to year, shop for artificial flowers and leaves. I love mixing a little of both but living in Florida, where autumn comes so late, makes it hard to decorate in September. So faux pumpkins and foliage work great for us.

DIY fall decorating ideas

With fall quickly approaching, it is time to add warmth and cozy to your home decor. A new season is a great time for new decor. This year I am showing some easy DIY fall decorating ideas.

Starting with a color scheme from a ribbon collection as the inspiration of warm red-umber hues, we will walk through ways to adjust accessories or change them to a warmer fall vibe.

If you feel your home needs cozy vibes for fall, then you are in the right place. These simple ideas are easy to follow and budget-friendly. Let's tour my fall decor this year and see what decorations we can change to give your home a warm and cozy feeling.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

DIY Fall Decorating Ideas

First, let's discuss different things you can alter, add or make to add to create that warm and cozy fall feeling. This is going to be fun!

  • Decorating your mantel for fall
  • Decorating dough bowls and bowls for fall
  • Decorating baskets for fall
  • Decorating table centerpiece for fall
  • Decorating with printables for fall
  • Decorating with garlands for fall
  • Decorating with pumpkins for fall
  • Decorating with benches for fall
  • Decorating with blankets for fall
  • Decorating with pillows for fall
  • Decorating with fall wreaths

Let's start the easy fall decor ideas in the living room at the fireplace mantel.

Decorating your Mantel for Fall

Fireplace mantels are a great place to add fall decorations. I like to recommend adding touches of fall. For example, take the flowers or greenery out of vases and baskets and change it to fall foliage as I did here in this basket. If you love baskets, check out my post on easy fall basket decorating ideas for every room.

Fall foliage added to a basket

You can also create autumn decor by replacing plants with fall colored plants. Here is an example: I removed a spring and summer herb faux plant and changed it to this amber glass jar with fall flowers.

Autumn flowers added to an amber mason jar for fall decorations

Next, add ribbon in fall colors. It's a fun, inexpensive fall decor idea. I tucked one ribbon onto the basket, as seen in the first photo in this section, and tied another ribbon onto the bunny to give him an autumn vibe.

Fall colored ribbon added to accessories like this bunny

Adding beautiful fall decor to your mantel is fun and will instantly add an autumn aesthetic without changing all the decor. Now let's talk about decorating dough bowls for fall.

Decorating Dough Bowls and Bowls for Fall

I love changing the decor in my dough bowls for the holidays. It is a fun and simple project. This also works for bowls too. So I will show you several ideas from this year and previous years of dough bowl fall decorating ideas.

First, you can do something as simple as sitting a hand full of wheat tied with a ribbon on the dough bowl. Natural elements are wonderful for easy fall decor. If you are a minimalist, then you will love this idea. It is simple and classy.

Fall dough bowl filled with wheat

Another idea is adding pumpkins to a bowl anywhere in a room. On my bookcase, I added all my small white pumpkins into a crock bowl displayed on my bookcase. Again, a very simple and classy design with vintage all over it.

White pumpkins added to a crock bowl for decorations on a bookcase for fall

And last, if you have a small bowl anywhere in your home, change the decor to leaves. This is an easy way to bring natural elements indoors. While on my morning walks, I found the first sign of autumn lying on the ground. I couldn't believe, living in Florida, that a tree had turned colors so early in the season. So I grabbed all the leaves I could find and added them to this wooden bowl for display. If you're looking for fun projects for the kids, try sending them out to collect the prettiest leaves they can find.

Dried leaves in a wooden bowl

Like I said, decorating bowls and dough bowls is so much fun. One of my popular posts is this DIY fall decor wooden dough bowl idea. It is another simple design using pumpkins.

Shop the post:

Decorating with Baskets for Fall

If you have been around me long, then you know I highly recommend using baskets in your home decor. Fall is the perfect time to use your baskets for decorations. They truly lend to the fall aesthetic.

First, let's go back to my mantel fall decorating idea. A hanging basket filled with fall foliage is a beautiful way to get the autumn vibe. But another easy decorating idea is filling a basket with fall leaves on a bookcase or table. Here I used a leaf garland from my fall storage box and wrapped the garland up, and tucked it into the basket.

How to decorate for fall with leaves in baskets

Another fun idea is taking a small basket and placing a pumpkin inside of the basket. But probably my favorite is adding a pumpkin to my mantel bunny.

Pumpkin in basket backback on bunnies back

Isn't this funny! He is sporting a pumpkin in his basket. LOL! Adding fun elements to your decor is a great way to make it interesting, creative, and fun.

Decorating Tables for Fall

Adding decor to your dining table can be simple and pretty. You do not have to go all out for a centerpiece; instead, do something simple. Here all I did was tie together more fall foliage and place it on a piece of wood painted white with chalk paint. Here are more tips on how to paint with chalk paint.

Fall centerpiece idea of autumn foliage

I have many more ideas for fall table decorations, like this farmhouse pumpkin centerpiece for your dinner table and this Dollar Tree fall table.

Decorating with Fall Printables

If there is one way to add inexpensive decor for fall, it is printables. There are so many things you can do with printables. Here are some I did this fall season.

First, you can print four designs on your printer and combine them into one piece of wall art to make it larger. On my Etsy shop, I have an entire section of printable art in a fall category. These four pieces were designed to go together. You can display them all together or break them up in a room.

Fall printables for art

Another idea is to frame a fall printable and hang it on layered breadboards and cutting boards. This frame makes changing the art out easy.

Barn printable on wooden breadboard and cutting board

And include a printable in your kitchen. Here is a homemade clipboard with a fun printable printed on a brown paper bag. Simple and easy!

Fall printable decoration idea for kitchen

There are so many ways you can frame and display printables. I have more ideas in this free printable home decor post, DIY printable ideas post, and other great places to find free fall printables that others have created. It's a great idea to find inexpensive frames to reuse each season at the dollar store or craft store.

Decorating with Garland for Fall

Garlands are a fun way to add decor to your home if you love doing easy craft or DIY projects. You can also purchase them on Etsy and in stores. One of my favorite garlands to decorate during autumn is this fall paper leaf garland.

You can drape garlands over benches as I did in our entryway.

Paper leaf garland draped over the back of a bench

And you can hang them on hooks as I did in our kitchen area.

Paper leaf garland hanging on hooks in a farmhouse style kitchen

But there are many other ways you can decorate with garlands. You can place them on your mantel or hang them on the front of a hutch. The possibilities are endless. That's what makes it one of my favorite DIV fall decor projects.

Decorating with Pumpkins

Probably the most popular fall decoration is pumpkins. There are so many ways you can decorate with pumpkins I have a post on decorating with small pumpkins. LOL!

Here are a few ways I added pumpkins to decor this autumn. First, I place a bunch of pumpkins in a bowl on my bookcase. You might remember me mentioning that when we were talking about bowls. And placing them on your hearth is a popular place to set real pumpkins and faux pumpkins.

Decorating your living room for fall with pumpkins and baskets on a hearth

It also looks good to add pumpkins to a hutch. Simply set pumpkins of different sizes around or on your dishes. It adds a nice touch to your decor.

Pumpkins placed inside a hutch with dishes

Also, if you have white dishes, you can use white or a clay color as I did here. If you have pattern dishes, consider using pumpkins that compliment your dishes.

Clay colored pumpkins that are white washed on a hutch

Decorating Benches for Fall

We have a bench in our entryways, one of my favorite spots to add seasonal and holiday decor. This year I simply added one pillow and the garland. Just those two simple things transformed from every day to fall.

Bench decorated with fall decorations

Decorating with Blankets for Fall

When cooler weather arrives, blankets are a nice touch of decor for your cozy home. They are also useful for cold nights while visiting and watching television. One way to decorate with blankets is to display an blanket on the back of your sofa in beautiful fall colors. This gives the back of your sofa more color and is right there to grab when someone needs a blanket.

Blanket on back of sofa for fall decoration

Another fun idea to add autumnal colors to your decor is hanging an autumn blanket to hooks in your room. We have this sitting area in our kitchen, and the hooks on the wall are a great place to store things we use and decorations. The blanket adds color and can be easily grabbed to get warm.

Blanket hanging on hooks as decorations for fall

A cheap place to find seasonal blankets is in the dollar spot at Target. But grab one early in the season because they go fast. For more ideas on how to decorate with throw blankets, check out my post about styling with throw blankets to create a warm and cozy aesthetic.

Decorating with Pillows

Consider adding a pillow or two to your gorgeous fall home decor. A cute pumpkin pillow is a nice touch. I found this sweet pillow at Target in the dollar spot. Since it is not displayed year around, I don't mind purchasing an inexpensive pillow to add to my fall decor.

Pumpkin pillow

Also, if you love changing pillows for seasons, I recommend tossing in one or two autumn-colored pillows that fit into your existing decor, which goes with your new autumn color scheme. Here we added a plaid pillow and clay-colored pillows to our sofa.

Autumn colored pillows added to a sofa for fall

Decorating with Fall Wreaths

Last is decorating with wreaths for fall. Most of the time, people only think of decorating with wreaths on your front door, but there are many ways to use wreaths in your home decor.

In my home, I placed a faux rusted eucalyptus wreath over my mirror in the entryway and then added two of the inspiration ribbons in the colors of fall I talked about before. I simply used a suction cup hook to hang the wreath on the mirror. Then I took two ribbon colors, tied them together, and tucked them onto the top of the wreath.

Autumn wreath added to a mirror with fall colored ribbons

Other places you can hang a beautiful fall wreath is on interior windows, over your mantel like in my fall home tour 2017, on a wall or hanging on a hook, inside a bookcase, and the list goes on. The possibilities are endless. If you like the idea of DIY fall wreaths, check out my post on easy wheat wreath DIY project.

Well, guess what? We have come to an end of all the different things you can change to give your home a more autumn feeling.

Final Thoughts

Fall is a beautiful time of year. Let's go back over a few thoughts regarding creative ways for decorating as fall rolls in. First, keep it simple and add a touch of fall here and there to your existing decor. To keep the cost down, look to mother nature, Etsy, and free printables, use existing frames and save faux pumpkins and fall foliage to set out each year. You can find more great decor ideas in my Best of Hearth and Hand from Magnolia post. Dollar stores and thrift stores are great places to pick up seasonal decorations. If you love thrifting, keep an eye out year-round for decorations.

I like to shop for autumn decorations at Target, Kirkland's, Dollar Tree, TJMaxx and Homegoods, thrift stores, and Amazon.

Now it is your turn. Do you decorate for fall? If so, what are your favorite things to use when decorating?

Happy Decorating!

Learn how to make this easy fall paper decoration of a leaf garland. Made from different colors of paper and other items from the Dollar Tree. A simple fun fall craft that takes a few hours and looks amazing added to your autumn decorations.

DIY fall paper leaf garland

Last year I made this fall paper decoration leaf garland. I wanted to add one more garland to my hutch that gave it a warm autumn vibe and I think it did the trick. So this year when I brought it down from the attic I thought I really need to share these DIY paper leaves with you.

I mean seriously! It is one of those easy fall crafts to make and looks amazing! A great beginner's fall crafting skills project. Let's get started making this simple craft together starting with collecting all your supplies.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

DIY Fall Paper Decoration Leaf Garland

With all my DIY projects I recommend collecting all your craft supplies before getting started. It is the worse when you get into a project and you realize you have to go to the store to pick up one more thing. Here is a list of what you will need to make this a paper leaf garland.

DIY Fall Paper Leaf Garland

You can change the colors of paper to any fall colors. That is the nice thing about this project. Feel free to make it any color you like. Now that you have all your supplies let's get started making your fall leaves garland.

How to Make a Paper Fall Leaf Garland

Start by printing out the leaf pattern. After you subscribe to my newsletter you will get an email with access to my free printables. Once you receive that link simply scroll down to the fall section and you will find the leaf printable. Print more than one page if you have a friend or family member who is helping you cut leaves.

How do you Make Paper Leaves in the Fall

Begin cutting all the paper leaves out from the leaf template. There are three leaf shapes to cut out in three different sizes so make sure to cut out all three.

Cutting template for fall paper leaf garland

Then use one of the leaves you have cut out and cut 25 leaves with 8 of each size leaf. Another way to put is to cut 8 white small leaves, 8 white medium leaves, and then 8 white big leaves. See what I am talking about? Repeat this step with the darker brown and the light brown.

Cut leaves for fall paper garland

For fun on this leaf garland craft, you can add a piece of paper of the printable design. I noticed in my old one I added one age of the printed leaves. You can be creative with your garland by using other gorgeous colors or printing all the leaves and making an all-white leaf garland. After you cut all the autumn leaves it will look like this.

Fall leaf template for garland
.

Measure Leaf Garland Vine

Now that you have all your leaves cut and they are ready to be applied to your vine you first need to determine how long you want your garland vine to be. A simple way to do that is to grab your vine from the Dollar Tree and drape it out where you want it to hang.

Fall leaf paper garland decoraiton

Once you figure how low you want it then mark with your hand where to cut the vine.

Determining where to cut the vine for a fall leaf paper garland

If your vine is plastic like my first one was all you need is scissors but if it has a wire inside like the one we are working on now you will need wire cutters. Also, give yourself an extra inch or two on each end of the vine. This way you will have enough to tie it or bend it around a nail or command hook.

By the way, my first leaf paper garland was made from this Dollar Tree leaf garland. All I did was pull all the leaves off. This time I am using this vine that has wire in it. I have it linked in the supply list above.

Glue Wire to Paper Leaf

Now for the fun part and that is adding a stem to the paper leaves. We are going to use the small leaf as an example first. Start by cutting about 3″ of wire. If the wire is thin enough you can cut it with scissors too but keep in mind it may dull your scissors but it is possible.

Cut the wire for a paper leaf garland

Next using your glue gun put some hot glue along the first couple of inches of the wire.

Add glue to wire to attach to a paper leaf

And then place the wire to the leaf making sure you have an extra inch hanging off so you can bend it around the vine. You will repeat these steps for the other size leaves but adding an inch or two cut wire.

Paper leaf garland with wire and glue gun glue

Attaching Leaves to Vine for Fall Paper Garland

This is where our leaf garland starts taking shape. Beginning on one end bend the stem wire around the vine of one size and color of a leaf garland.

It helps me to have all my leaves in some sort of order meaning all the small white leaves in one stack and then all the small white medium leaves next and so on. I showed a photo at the beginning where I had them in some sort of order.

As you apply the leaves to the garland vine use your organization to know where to pull from next. But change it up now and then because just like nature you don't want it to be a perfect order unless you want it to be in perfect order.

I place my leaves about one inch apart like in this photo. It doesn't have to be perfectly one inch but enough to give the leaves a little bit of breathing room.

Bend wire around the stem

When you get to the end of the vine remember to leave yourself an inch or so of the vine. And now guess what? You are all finished making your DIY fall decorations.

Conclusion

I love easy and cheap home DIY decorations and this fall paper decoration of a leaf garland fits perfectly. There are so many ways you can add this home decor fall decoration. I strung my garland on my hutch.

Fall paper leaf garland on an old hutch

In the beginning, I showed it on my hutch last year but this photo is from this year. You can tell the difference by the colors of the leaves and the dishes in my hutch.

Other simple ideas are a piece of furniture, hanging on a mantel or on hooks. I have a row of hooks in my laundry room.

Fall paper decorations in a laundry room

It would be so cute hanging in any room of your home. You could also hang it on a wall anywhere or on a bench decorated for fall.

Fall paper decoration leaf garland on a bench

But probably my favorite way to use the leaf garland is on a tablescape. I used it on this easy Thanksgiving table decoration and in this DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations. This is our Thanksgiving dinner table design for this year.

Talk about an easy DIY table runner. I just pulled it down from my hutch and placed it on the dining room table.

Fall paper decorations leaf garland

I used last year's garland which was made with white printer paper, brown craft paper, and light brown crepe paper. I stored my paper leaf garland by gently placing it down inside of a brown paper bag and sitting it in my attic with nothing near the bag. It is so lightweight until when I pulled it out of the bag I had minimal fluffing to do.

Some of the tissue paper was crumpled so I hope this year's leaf garland will come out looking even better since there is no crepe paper.

I love paper crafts! They are cheap to make and a fun project. Did you enjoy these fall decor ideas using a paper leaf garland?

I hope you have fun making this paper leaf garland. This is a great project for a craft night too. Check out more fall fun with my cozy and clever DIY Fall decor ideas. Other cute craft ideas that are so much fun are my autumn wheat wreath DIY and this farmhouse pumpkin centerpiece made with little pumpkins. Have fun!

Let's take it back to the pioneer period with these easy Thanksgiving table decorations. This fall Thanksgiving tablescape is simple to make using items you probably have lying around your house like mini pumpkins and old books. It is perfect for Friendsgiving and a pilgrim Halloween dinner too.

Easy Thanksgiving table decorations

When my girls were growing up we used to love pretending we were pioneers and eating dinner by chamber oil lamps. We would turn off the lights and light the lanterns and each by the fire.

This was such a great memory until I thought it would be fun to create easy Thanksgiving table decorations in a Cottagecore pioneer spirit.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Easy Thanksgiving Table Decorations

Whenever I create a table for an event I usually decorate the day. It takes one less thing off your list the day of the event. So let's grab some supplies and get started.

Thanksgiving Table Settings Supplies

I love to shop my own home when working on table decorations so try shopping your home, your mom's, aunts, sister, brothers, or anyone who loves sharing their decor.

Shop supplies:

Here are a few notes about the supply list. I show two options for the place setting decorations so read till the end to decide if you want the mini pies or small pumpkin. Also, most of my items came from thrift stores, dollar stores, and my house. I will explain more later.

Fall Tablescape with a Pioneer Pilgrim Vibe

Have you figured out yet that I love decorating the table for Thanksgiving day more than cooking the food? LOL! We leave the food prep to my hubby who does an amazing job.

Now let's begin on the bottom layer of this table with a blanket. Yes, you heard me right. We are going to use a blanket for a table cloth. I love using blankets, sheets, or anything large enough to fit over a table. I used a knit blanket one time in this hygge beautiful Thanksgiving table setting and I used a chambray blanket with fringe on this outdoor farmhouse Thanksgiving dinner table.

I think you get the picture. Grab a plaid blanket and lay it along the center of your table.

Thanksgiving tablescape with plaid blanket

Now take a runner and lay it across your table in the opposite direction. This neutral-colored table runner is homemade from a dropcloth. I have directions on how to sew a ruffled table runner if you would like to make one too.

Drop cloth runner for fall table

Next grab a piece of white painted wood and lay it over the table runner. I have used that piece of wood on so many tables. It is handy to keep around. It also comes in handy on a coffee table, buffet, or anywhere you want to elevate your decorations.

Fall tablescape table linen layering

Now that we have the table linens set let's move on to decorations.

This easy centerpiece revolves around chamber oil lamps. You can find them in thrift stores and online like Amazon and Walmart. First, sit two or three neutral-colored books in the center of the table. This will elevate the middle oil lamps.

Now place three oil lamps on the wooden runner and books. Space them apart so you can lay a fall garland in the middle. (You will notice I don't have the books on the table here. I didn't add the book until later but make sure to add your books here)

Fall Garland Gorgeous Centerpiece

Next, grab your fall garland or make an autumn paper leaf garland from Dollar Tree and grocery store items as I did. You can find all the details in this DIY paper leaf garland post.

Weave your fall foliage from one end of the table and around the glass lamps to the other end. The fall leaves warm up this beautiful centerpiece but we are not quite finished.

Fall paper decorations

I added the books at this point.

Next place your brass candlesticks and white candles nestling them into the leaf shape garland. One on one side and the other on the other side.

Thanksgiving tablescape with brass candlesticks

I love making easy Thanksgiving centerpieces. This perfect centerpiece looks complicated but it is actually only layers. Give this DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece a try. Now let's work on the place settings.

Thanksgiving Place Settings

To me, the place setting is another place to create a centerpiece but this center piece is more personal to each of your guests or family members which I why I always like to give them a little gift or treat here.

One of my favorite tables — hygge Thanksgiving table I mentioned earlier I used mini pies. Looking back this was my all-time favorite place setting Thanksgiving decorations. However, if you want other ideas consider mini pumpkins or pine cones would be cute too.

But before we dive too far into the place setting decoration let's build your place setting dishes.

Dinnerware

Start with a simple white plate. I bought mine at the Dollar Tree but you can find them at any dollar store. Sit each white plate on the table in front of each chair.

Autumn colored Thanksgiving tablescape

It helps me when placing the plates to make sure the chairs are pushed in and in their right position so I can sit a place center in front of the chair and pulled to the edge of the table.

Next place a wooden plate on the white plate. Using a wooden plate helps bring another pioneer pilgrim element. I can imagine the early pilgrims probably made most of their utensils out of wood they carved so a wooden plate fit in perfectly.

Wooden plate on white plate for Thanksgiving table

Glassware and Silverware

Follow by placing the silverware and then a Moscow mule cup or mug. I am not sure what exactly our forefathers drank out of but my guess is they brought some sort of cup with them over on the Mayflower. I just happened to have these Moscow mules in my husband's mom's cedar chest so they were a perfect fit.

Silverware for Pioneer table

I also loved how the copper color matched the color in the plaid blanket table cloth.

Homemade Mini Pies or Mini Pumpkin Fall Place Setting Centerpiece

Next, you need something to sit in the middle of the wood plate as a place setting decorations. We have two different ways to style this — mini pies or mini white pumpkins. Here is a photo of the small pumpkins.

You can use faux pumpkins or real pumpkins. Both look amazing!

Mini pumpkins place setting decorations

If you like to homemade pie look then grab your miniature pies. Traditional pies to use are pumpkin pie, apple pie, or pecan pie. Walmart had all but the pumpkin pie option at my store but I wouldn't put it past them to offer the pumpkin pie too.

Now take a pair of scissors and cut into the flour sack dish towels. Then tear the rest down to the other end. If the seam stops you from tearing use your scissors to cut into it. Also, if it doesn't seem to tear easily or nicely turn the fabric around and try again from the other side.

Cut fabric to tie around a mini pie

When tearing fabric you have to be tearing it with the grain and not against it. You may need to try it from several directions.

Now tie one piece of fabric around the tiny pie and tie it into a sailor's knot. You can add a name card under the tie if you want to include a place card.

Thanksgiving mini pie decoration

Then set it in the center of the wooden plate.

Mini pie fall place setting decoration

Yay! Now you are all finished with your table setting. Last toss some pillows on your bench. This is optional for comfort and looks but if you having kids come I would pass on the pillows.

PIllows on a bench for a tablescape

Now that your beautiful table is done make sure to light your hurricane lamps about five minutes before guests arrive. Turn the wick down very low almost where you cannot see it but not too low because then it will fall down into the oil. The lower the wick the lower the light.

Also, lowering the wick will help with the smoke emitted from the chamber lamp. If your glass cover is dirty I find putting them in the dishwasher makes it sparkle.

Conclusion

Well, we have finished these easy elegant Thanksgiving table decorations and it is time to party. Here are more final shots of the table. I hope you have a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving.

easy Thanksgiving fall tablescape

This table is also great for a fall or autumn party. Invite friends over and sit by lamplight. You could even do it for Halloween and call it a pilgrim costume party. Everyone has to wear pilgrim-style clothes and come eat an old-fashioned pioneer dinner.

Decorating with Mini Pumpkins

When money was tight my favorite way to decorate was picking up fresh or faux little pumpkins from the store and sprinkle them into my decorations at home. It was cheap and inexpensive.

Hopefully, you will be inspired to shop for these small little beauties and start incorporating them into your home decor.

Decorate your Dining Table with Small Pumpkins

Small Pumpkin table decorating

My first creative idea is so easy and can be used when having guests over for dessert.  Sit a miniature pumpkin on a pretty plate. You can set it anywhere or use it as place-setting decorations.

Simply pull out some new kitchen towels and place a dessert plate on the table and top with one small pumpkin.  When your guest finishes their dessert the towel and pretty pumpkin can be a gift for them to take home.

And while we are on the topic of tablescapes consider leaving a beautiful mini pumpkin centerpiece out on your dining table all season long. Using painted pumpkins you can create a centerpiece similar to this by following my full tutorial farmhouse pumpkin centerpiece DIY.

Tiny Pumpkin table centerpiece

Here is another example of how easy it is to decorate with tiny pumpkins. After you place flowers on the center of your table simply sit small pumpkins on each side.

I simply resued old faux tiny fall pumpkins and gave them a coat of white paint. I share more details and images in my Thanksgiving table decorations DIY.

Outdoor Decorating with Pumpkins

Small Pumpkin porch decoration

How many of you love walking up to a front doorstep and finding some beautiful real pumpkins incorporated into their porch decor.  If you have a sculpture of an animal or small child holding a basket then add a small pumpkin gift.

Faux pumpkins wrapped in a natural twine sitting inside a iron wall flower hanger on a front porch for fall.

Another fun idea with baby pumpkins is placing a handful in a basket or on a wall hanging planter. All you need is a little hay and then place nestle them inside.

Your porch is a great place to decorate with small pumpkins. Here are fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget.

Bright color pumpkin wreath

Probably my all-time favorite tiny pumpkin project was this DIY fall bicycle wreath. This wreath incorporates happy autumn feeling with bright colors. If you look closely there are white and orange smaller pumpkins nestled between the beautiful flowers.

Decorating Tables with Baby Pumpkins

Small Pumpkin decor

Another way I love decorating with these little guys in my home decor is to place them next to an end table lamp.  That can be in a bedroom, living room, or study.  It's even okay to add a smaller pumpkin in every room if you want to.

Decorating Bookcases with Miniature Pumpkins

Next, consider sitting a single pumpkin on your bookcase. The bright color of the small pumpkin draws attention to all the wonderful stories you have standing on your bookcase.

They look cute sitting in bowls on bookcases or just set one next to books. There are so many ways you can incorporate small pumpkins on bookshelves.

Mantle Decor with Little Pumpkins

The fireplace is a main focal point in our living room so a natural place to add small pumpkins was on the mantle. Just like the bookcase simple nestle little pumpkins around other decorations.

Here is another idea where I used different colors on small pumpkins. Remember the centerpiece that had pastel-colored pumpkins in it? Well, I used the same mini pumpkins on my mantle.

Consider repeating your tiny pumpkins in another area of your home for a great design element. Sitting these little beauties in a row on your mantle is an easy way to decorate. More details in this fall home tour.

Decorating Tiered Trays with Baby Pumpkins

Decorating a tiered tray with mini pumpkins

Probably one of the easiest ways to use tiny pumpkins in your home decor is on a tiered tray. Once you decide on your color scheme simply place small pumpkins here and there throughout your other fall decorations.

Mini pumpkin decor on tiered tray

I painted several of the pumpkins I used from the year before to match other white pumpkins. It is good to keep a bag of mini faux pumpkins to add to your decorations each year. A little bit of acrylic paint, craft paint, or spray paint and you can change the color in minutes.

More instructions on this 3 tiered wooden stand harvest decorations project.

Where to Buy Mini Pumpkins

Now that we have all these fun ideas to decorate our homes with mini pumpkins you might be asking where do I buy small pumpkins.

If you are looking for a real fresh tiny pumpkin the first place to look is grocery stores. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Walmart, or your local grocery store will carry them when they come in season. You can also look at your local farmer's market or a produce stand. Sometimes local farmers will grow them and sell them at the market.

When I am looking for faux pumpkins I start by searching Amazon. You can find them all year long on Amazon but if you want a deal on mini pumpkins, search at Dollar Tree starting around the beginning of September or Walmart is another favorite.

Conclusion

In addition to baby pumpkins, there are small gourds too and they look just as amazing in fall home decor. You can find them in the grocery store. If you love small gourds simply place one or more in place of any of the ideas I share above.

Next, if you love decorating your pumpkins, carved pumpkins or fun pumpkins then consider using them in place of any of these orange darlings. A carved pumpkin is so cute for Halloween.

Now that you have loads of ideas on pumpkin decorating with tiny pumpkins and you know where to shop for them what fun ideas are stirring in your head. Pick up a few small pumpkins and maybe other decorations and add some autumn color to your home decor.

The easiest wheat wreath DIY project. I couldn't believe how simple and inexpensive this fall or Thanksgiving wreath turned out. Learn how to make a wheat wreath using my simple steps. It was a subtle touch to my door decor and fit nicely with my fall front porch decorations.
Wheat wreath DIY using a metal gold ring.

Before we jump into the details of making this fall wheat wreath DIY, I want to share what inspired this easy project. This year I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I was looking for a homemade natural kind of design.

This fall wreath DIY fits the bill. It was cheap and natural because the wheat is dried. You can also change the wheat for other dried flowers or plants to make a wreath that lasts all year long. Here is how to make a dried wheat wreath for your front door too.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

.

Beautiful Wheat Wreath DIY

Before we begin, let's gather some supplies for this DIY wheat wreath.

Fall Wreath DIY

Now that you have gathered your supplies let's start the process on how to make a wheat wreath by making wheat bundles.

Step 1: Wheat Bundles

Let's begin by laying the metal ring and a bundle of three or four pieces of wheat on your table.

Measure and cut dried wheat to fit onto a metal ring

Simply lay the dried wheat bundle next to one side of the metal ring to help you figure out how long you want the first piece to be and then trim it with scissors or wire cutters.

Cutting dried wheat with wire cutters.

I used wire cutters because they seemed easier to cut than my scissors.

Step 2: Attach Wheat Bundles to Ring

Now place the stems of the wheat on one side of the metal ring with a piece of twine under it. Add a dot of hot glue and tie it into place with thin twine. I used twine instead of floral wire because I couldn't get the wire tight enough to make it snug.

Place a dot of hot glue ton the wire ring where you will be tying the dried wheat in place.

This is what it will look like. You should have one small bundle of wheat sitting on top of the gold ring between 6 and 9 o'clock, with the top of the bundle around 9 o'clock.

Placing dried wreath on a gold metal ring and tie it with twine to make a fall wreath.

Step 3: Add Second Bundle of Wheat

Next, use a piece of the cut wheat to measure from the center bottom of the ring to the bundle of wheat you just added. Then measure over on the other side and this is where you will apply the next dried wheat bundle.

Dried wheat wreath DIY

See how easy this is moving along?

Dried wheat wreath DIY minimalist

Keep adding new bundles of wheat layering on top of each other but moving towards the center bottom as you go. And trim off any excess dried wheat stems.

This is what your whole wreath will look like after applying all the wheat bundles. You will leave a space at the bottom for the ribbon.

Minimalist dried wheat wreath ready for a ribbon

Step 4: Add Ribbon Bow

Now you are ready for a ribbon bow.

Loop and tie a bow to the metal ring on the wreath.

Make loops with your ribbon and then tie it on with the twine. After you have finished with the loops wrap another piece of ribbon over the center and either tie it in place or use your glue gun.

Simple dried wheat wreath DIY

See how the center ribbon bow covers the twine? A great alternative is a burlap bow. It would be cute too and it will give it a more rustic farmhouse look. Guess what? Now you are finished. This really is simple and easy and a cheap wreath to make.

How to Hang your Wheat Wreath on your Front Door

Now that your wreath is done, you will need to hang it on your front door. I hung my wreath with ribbon tieing it on the inside of my door with a pretty bow. I have a post on how to hang a wreath with ribbon that walks you through it step by step, and it is easy to do.

However, if you want to hang your wreaths on your windows, here are steps on how to hang wreaths on windows.

Fall Decorations using Wheat

Now that we have the wreath made and hung on your front door, here are more ideas. Add some decorations to your entryway to complement your autumn wreath. Or decorate your porch with these fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget.

Autumn decorated small front porch using wheat, mums, pumpkins, lantern and more.

Conclusion

Fall is my favorite season to decorate. I love decorating with natural things. This natural wreath gives that feeling and it was cheap.

Not everything is cheap when you make it homemade but this wreath was well worth it. The white farmhouse bench on the porch is homemade too. It is a simple DIY bench that you can make in a matter of hours once you have all the supplies.

Here are a few more photos of the wreath.

I hope you have found this helpful and I cannot wait to hear what dried greenery or flowers you choose to make this wreath. You should check out my other great ideas on how to decorate with wreaths.

Don't forget to add your holiday decorations. It is as simple as adding a basket filled with mums, leaves from your yard, and pumpkins.

Oh, and don't forget my simple tutorial on how to hang a wreath with ribbon. You will be amazed at what one command hook can do. Here is another beautiful fall wreath DIY that is easy and fun to make.

My go-to when looking for rustic farmhouse inspiration is Beth at shady_pines3interiors. Not only is she crazy talented when it comes to design but she always does a great job of embodying rustic and cozy.

Look at how adorable this rustic Halloween fireplace turned out. The Halloween book page as art, spiders, candles, and webs are perfect but add the autumn branch at the bottom and it is the icing on the cake.

BATS, CROWS, SKELETONS & OTHER GOODIES ON A HALLOWEEN FIREPLACE

Halloween fireplace decorations in black and white and ravens, skeletons, bats, garland, candles.

Bats and black crows are trending items to decorate your Halloween mantel with. Jaclyn Mari includes those and so much more on her spooky mantel.

She has found a not so creepy way to include skeletons on her mantel. If you zoom into her firewood, you'll notice a funny skeleton hand piled on her wood. So funny!

There are so many fun details on this mantel. Look closely at the black candle holders and the cheery skeleton crack me up. And her faux pumpkins look so real.

The string of crow lights creates a great glow when you don't have a fire blazing. Isn't this a beautiful white Halloween mantel? And it fits perfectly into the modern farmhouse Halloween mantel department.

PUMPKINS SPILLING OUT OF A FIREPLACE

AUTUMN HALLOWEEN MANTLE

Homeonnativetrail

I love this mantle and how smoothing it marries autumn and Halloween. This is a great idea from Amy at Homeonnativetrail on Instagram.

Consider adding greenery around all your pumpkins and jack o' lanterns. This idea softens the landscape of a fireplace and gives it life. This mantle has great symmetry too. If you love symmetry then add tall lanterns or something tall on the sides.

A MANTLE FULL OF EUCALYPTUS, CANDLESTICKS, PUMPKINS & FRAMES

Greenery on a chippy mantle with white pumpkins sitting on top and black candle sticks on the ends.

Now that we have transitioned to mantles with autumn and Halloween let's look at a few fall ideas. Georgia Mae's at Home is a glimpse into Michelle's home. This chippy painted fireplace mantel looks beautiful with the neutral colors displayed on top.

The foliage that she has used reminds us of fall leaves outside. And the simplicity of her empty picture frames, black candlesticks, and one book page wooden sign is perfection.

CANDLES & WHITE PUMPKINS ON TOP OF A FIREPLACE

Baskets, candles, and cotton garland on a fall mantle.

This is our easy DIY fall decor mantle.

Using cotton garland along with some white candles and small pumpkins keeps things easy as pie, yet delightful. Stacking your pumpkins on things such as the candle lids is a great way to add dimension.

CONCLUSION

Is your mind racing with all of these great Halloween mantel ideas? All these ideas have us dreaming up some ghouls and goblins. If you prefer a vintage vibe, check out my post about vintage inspired Halloween decor mantel ideas.

A few fun things to consider when planning your not-so-spooky mantle are a black cat, dark bats, old windows, creepy spiders, apothecary jars, witch-style decorations, spooky lighting, black owl, autumn colors, black branch, and spooky garland to name a few. LOL!

It's fun to not just decorate in the fall spirit and forget about the favorite holiday in the middle of the season.

This fall celebrate with family and friends with these Farmhouse style Thanksgiving dinner table ideas for a delicious feast. This dining table design can be placed inside or outdoors and it is easy to create.
Thanksgiving dinner table ideas for outdoors

Last year I created a Dollar Tree fall Thanksgiving tablescape but this year I teamed up with Coton Colors to bring you elegant outdoor Thanksgiving dinner table ideas.

Like always, this tablescape is easy to create and you most likely will not have to leave home to pull it together like my easy Thanksgiving table decorations with a pilgrim vibe. So let's get started and I will walk you through the steps on creating this lovely Farmhouse style holiday table setting.

This post is sponsored by Coton Colors and contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own.

Thanksgiving Dinner Table Ideas

Before I begin I want to tell you a little about Coton Colors. Coton Colors is a wonderful company that originated in my home town of Tallahassee. They make pottery and accessories for your home and holidays.

Their designs are unique, fun and gorgeous!

I have been decorating with their pottery and accessories for years. One of my favorites is my patriotic front door wreath. Coton Colors has more wreaths on their Happy Everything website.

But let's dive into making this farmhouse style table setting.

How can I decorate my Thanksgiving table?

Before you start gather all your supplies. Here is a list of what I used to create this farmhouse style Thanksgiving table.

Now that you all your pieces let's begin putting it all together.

Linens

Let's begin with layering linens on the table. I love to be creative when it comes to tablecloths. For this project, I used a flat sheet that has a yummy wrinkled look and tossed it on the table.

Thanksgiving dinner table decoration beginning with a white flat sheet

Then I placed a blue faded throw with tassels on the ends across the center kind of like a runner. I laid it out in an s-shape on the table making sure where there was a flat spot for a place setting.

Blue blanket throw drapped across a table as a runner for Fall tablescape

Fall or Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Next, let's do a little prep work to make the centerpiece.

Grab two bundles of dried wheat and placed them inside the french country pitcher. I didn't even have to cut the ends. The french pitcher was tall enough to hold them at their current height.

Bundles of wheat inside a french country pitcher for a Thanksgiving centerpiece

Once you have the dried wheat in the pitcher let's look at making the wooden platform for your table.

Measure the longest side of your table and then subtract 24″ and then cut your board to that length. Next, brush on some white chalk paint and let it dry. Then using sandpaper rub off the paint on the corners or anywhere to give it a distressed look.

Once you have everything ready place the distressed piece of wood in the center of the table and then put the dried arrangement in the center.

Place Settings

Again you will need to do a little prep work on the place setting. Take the silverware and place the knife down first and then cross over the knife with a fork and then cross the other side with a spoon.

Then cut a piece of ribbon that is about 24″ long and tie it around the silverware just like you do a shoelace. After you have all the silverware ready let's begin making the place settings.

First lay down the ruffled polka dot charger.

Then place the dinner plate on top of the charger.

Next place a white salad plate on the dinner plate. I like to mix and match old, new and borrowed pieces. The dinner plates are from my farmhouse hutch.

Now for the fun part and this is where I love to pick something out as a gift for friends and family.

Place a dipping bowl right in the center. I love how this bowl fits the vibe of this Thanksgiving tablescape with a wonderful reminder of being thankful.

Adding something special to the center makes each guest feel special and they will love it the surprise when they hear it is a gift.

Next place your silverware to the right on top of a linen napkin.

And then place your stemless champagne flute above the silverware.

Last all you have to do is sit a salt and pepper shaker on the table.

I have something exciting to share. If you use code SUMMERHILL when you make a purchase you get this adorable salt and pepper shaker with your order.

Guess what? Your Thanksgiving tablescape is all finished!!! Here are a few more photos to show you an overall look.

FRONT DOOR FALL DECOR IDEAS

When gathering inspiration for our fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget, we knew right where to go. Our friends have simple, yet special front door fall decor ideas.

WHEN SHOULD I DECORATE MY HOUSE FOR FALL?

Do you find yourself pondering ‘when should I decorate my house for fall?' We think there's no right or wrong answer.

Some think you should wait until the weather begins to change. Others say after Labor Day.

HOW DO I DECORATE MY FRONT DOOR FOR FALL?

We have some great examples to answer the question, ‘how do I decorate my front door for fall?'. But here is what we find traditional decorating elements for the autumn season.

  • Pumpkins
  • Haybales
  • Corn stalks
  • Husks
  • Lanterns
  • Scarcrows
  • Mums (this is a fall season flower)
  • Seasonal signs

Let's tour our friend's porches and see how they used many of the traditional fall outdoor decorations so you can be inspired.

AUTUMN GARLAND FRONT DOOR

One of my favorite places to get inspiration is on Instagram so when I came across this fall porch by Vintagewhitefarmhouse I couldn't wait to share it with you. A fun way to add harvest decor to your front door is with a garland.

Isn't this garland adorable! Tammy is a very talented designer and if you want to see more ideas check out her IG. In addition to her fall outdoor fall decorations, she has some Halloween decor too.

When the temperatures drop and the leaves start changing an old-style feeling comes in my decor so when I saw this adorable autumn front porch decorated by Favored Farmhouse I knew you would want to see it too.

There are so many details that are inspiring on this porch. Hay bales, pumpkins, lanterns, fall front door wreath filled with mini pumpkins, pine cones, and autumn leaves, corn stalks, mums and so much more. It is a harvest wonderland!

CHARMING FALL FRONT PORCH

Fallon's front door shows off how you can have subtle but gorgeous fall decor right at your front door.

You can welcome the autumn season change from a cute nod to fall on your mat to a pumpkin patch wooden sign.

COZY FALL PILLOWS, MUMS & A WREATH ON A FRONT PORCH

Fall front door decorations with mums.

Adding pillows that tie together the color of your fall decor theme is a great plan, and they look so sweet on JeriKay's porch swing.

Mums are also a great fall flower to add to your planters for a touch of fall decor. Don't forget a wreath when you put together your autumn front door decor.

FUN FALL FRONT DOOR

Speaking of mums! Check out the fun mat that Alieta has at her front door. It's so cute incorporated into her fall front porch decor.

Fresh pumpkins and gourds also make the perfect decorations for the outdoors and add so much color.

HELLO GOURD-GEOUS FALL DOOR MAT

Autumn front door mats layered with a stack of pumpkins next to it.

Our friend Meagan's fall doormat makes us giggle. What a fun play on words this is.

Layered rugs are perfect in the fall. They are kind of a nod to the fact that the cooler temperatures have you layering up your clothes.

HELLO FALL FRONT DOOR

Another fall front door decor with layered mats and stacked pumpkins.

Jennifer's front door says it best. Hello Fall! Don't you agree these wreath alternatives are adorable?

The way she stacks her pumpkins is also a great way to create dimension and bring attention to your fall front door.

BEAUTIFUL FALL PORCH WITH NEUTRAL TONES

Autumn french door with loads of mums and monochromatic colored pumpkins.

Neutral tones are pretty to use when you're decorating your front door for fall. White pumpkins are a trendy addition that has peaked in the last few years and they look beautiful sitting on top of straw bales on Chyvonne's porch.

We love Chyvonnes porch with all its natural elements so much until we used it in our farmhouse fall porch decor post.

RICH AUTUMN COLORED PORCH DECOR

Another French front door decor with many pumpkins and a warm autumn feel.

Splashes of rich autumn color are a great inspiration that Hope brings us with her front porch decor.

She creates the vibe of a pumpkin patch with an outdoor entryway.

FALL FRONT DOOR DECOR COMPLETE WITH TREE STUMPS

Luci's front fall door decor is complete with tree stumps. This creates a great fall setting with a rustic appeal.

Welcome guests with these fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget. Whether your porch is small or large these ideas are inexpensive and will create a cozy and inviting porch.
Fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget

When fall arrives our homes beg for pumpkins, mums, cozy blankets, and more. I love decorating our small porch just as much as the inside because it gives people that warm welcome feeling and a hint of what is to come inside.

But this year I decided to bring you fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget because decorations can get expensive and autumn decorating is fun!

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Fall Front Porch Decorating Ideas on a Budget

Before we begin talking fall decorations for your porch let's discuss decorating your porch in zones like your front door, flooring, accent walls, seating (if applicable), and steps if you have some.

Write down what zones you have on your porch first. Then once you have those zones, pick out a vibe or theme. My vibe this year is a natural homemade cottage farmhouse.

Now that you have your theme or vibe start thinking about decorating each zone and using elements to tie them together.

Fall Front Door Decorating Idea

Dried wheat is my favorite autumn decoration this year and it is the piece I wanted to thread throughout my house so I thought a wheat wreath would be perfect.

Front door wreath idea using wheat for autumn

This is such an easy wreath to make and I will be sharing directions on how to make it soon.

In addition to your wreath, you can add garland around the door too. Now let's talk about the flooring.

Fall Front Porch Flooring

It is important to have a doormat and maybe even an outdoor rug if you have the room for it.

I have a small front porch so I came up with a new design for my layered rugs using some leftover wood flooring from an interior project.

These painted wood flooring strips are super easy. I will have a post on how to make a wood layered mat soon.

Once you have the wood flooring laid then place your favorite mat on top. This doormat is one of Joanna's Gaines, Hearth, and Hand pieces from Target.

Fall Front Porch Seating

Small front porches usually do not have seating but a bench might fit on your porch. I found lots of cute benches online but honestly, I wanted something simple and homemade.

Fall front porch decorations using a homemade white bench

So I used pieces of wood I had lying around and threw together this simple DIY bench. It was so easy and if you have any woodworking capability I think you can do it too.

Soon I will be bringing a post on a simple DIY bench.

Fall Front Porch Accesseries

Now for the fun part–the accessories. Again I wanted to add dried wheat so I placed my french pitcher on the bench and filled it with more wheat. Remember to repeat a few accessories in a space for a great design.

Then if you have a scarf or blanket toss it on your bench for that warm and cozy autumn feeling and add some pumpkins.

Fall decorations of a white pumpkins and a scarf on a farmhouse bench

Remember me mentioning that I wanted to go more natural this year? These are real pumpkins which probably will not make it very long in this Florida weather. LOL!

Now add a few items on the floor as I did here with the watering can and this old galvanized bucket filled with white mums.

I usually do not recommend filling every corner with something but I had this lantern layering around and thought wouldn't it be fun to introduce some sparkle to the porch filling it with mini lights.

And then if you have a statue like my puppy tie a ribbon around his neck with the same ribbon on the wreath and fill his basket with raffia and a pumpkin.

You can also put acorns in his basket.

Fall Porch Accent Wall

Wall space is a great place to add more design. Since I already had this flower hanger on the wall I decided instead of filling it with flowers I would add some faux pumpkins that are wrapped in natural twine.

See how I am kind of keeping the natural theme here. 😉

You can also add a fun sign like a pumpkin patch advertisement. There are lots of cute ones on Etsy or in stores like Hobby Lobby and so on.

Okay, I think I have pretty much covered all these ideas for such a tiny front porch. LOL! Now let's look at the whole space from afar.

Fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget

How do I decorate for fall cheap?

The best way to decorate for fall cheap is to use items you have at home. Look for accessories that have fall colors or go with a color theme but use traditional fall items. Here is a list of items you may have in your house that you can use for fall decorating.

You can also purchase dollar store items and spray paint them whatever color you. For example if you are going for a white autumn theme pick up any pumpkins and paint them white.

How to decorate a porch for Thanksgiving?

Any decorations you place out for fall work for Thanksgiving but if you want to take it up a notch add a cute turkey into your display or pilgrims.

Another fun idea is to search for any Thanksgiving fall printable that you can print and frame to hang on the wall.

Conclusion

It is very easy to add decorations for fall. If you already have seating on your porch add blankets or scarves around them. Toss a layered rug in front of the door, add some traditional autumn accessories like pumpkins.

Oh, and I forget that I added some autumn leaves here and there that I found in my yard. Not very many because I do want to blow or sweep off the porch now and then and I don't' mind picking up a few leaves.
