This Halloween ghost light craft is so easy to make and is a fun Halloween project. Recently I shared a DIY sheet ghost Halloween decoration on my Instagram, and it got great views plus lots of questions. So I decided to put the steps into a blog post. Making a ghost out of a sheet this way is the easiest Halloween decoration you will ever make.

DIY sheet ghost Halloween decoration

This Halloween season, my daughter Hannah and I went with a vintage retro aesthetic. We transformed the mantel using one of her Etsy printables and started working on the hearth with a DIY Halloween ghost idea. Halloween crafts are a fun idea for you to do alone or with your kids and Halloween ghosts are a staple of the season.

For many years we would spend most of our time and energy on the mantel shelf, and the hearth would be lacking. But this year, we wanted the hearth to be as dramatic as the shelf, so we decided to make a DIY ghost decoration using items around the house. I think this easy project would be a great idea for your Halloween party.

DIY Sheet Ghost Halloween Decoration

Halloween ghost decorations are an easy way to bring Halloween home. The best part about this DIY Halloween ghost is the simple supply list. Gather these items, and then let's get started.

Shop the post:

Making a Ghost out of a Sheet

Did I mention this Halloween ghost light only takes about 30 minutes or less to make? It is genuinely the easiest decoration I have pulled together.

Now let's decide where you want your child-size ghost. Remember, we placed ours on the hearth, but you can set yours anywhere inside your home or on your front porch. I am thinking of moving mine to the porch for Halloween night.

Step 1: Ghost stand

First, let's build the stand for the ghost. Place your stand or baby doll high chair in my case, then set your lamp or ball on top for the head of the ghost.

DIY Halloween ghost using a stand and lamp

If you are using a victorian lamp, you will need to remove the globe on the top and then the glass bulb cover. Not all Victorian lamps have this piece inside but ours did I guess for aesthetics. The main thing is that you need the top of the globe to be smooth.

At this step, use a warm light bulb in the lower sphere of the victorian lamp. Use a low watt like 25 watt and an edison bulb would make a nice warm light.

If you are using Christmas light strings, make sure they are warm-colored. Next, if you're using the Victorian lamp, turn on the lower sphere because later, when we light the ghost, you won't have to reach up there to turn it on.

Now that you have your foundation, let me show you how to drape the flat sheet over the base.

Step 2: Sheet Ghost

The ghost shape is easy to achieve. Find the center of your sheet, then place the center on the top of the ghost stand. Make sure the sheet is evenly distributed around the ghost base.

DIY ghost out of a sheet

Next, fold under any excess sheet material. Do not puddle but tuck the extra sheet material under where the sheet hangs down. Once you have all the excess sheet tucked under, pull the flat sheet forward, so it flows outward from the ghost. Your Halloween ghost craft is almost done!

Step 3: Ghost Eyes and Mouth

We only have a few more steps, and this project is complete. It's time to decorate the ghost's head. Use construction paper or black felt and cut out the eyes and mouth in an oval shape. Our eyes and mouth are about 2 inches long.

Subsequently, use some tape to adhere the eyes and mouth onto the ghost. We used regular clear tape and looped it where the sticky was on the outside. So far, they have not fallen off. If you're using an old sheet you will only be using for this decoration, you can use a glue gun to attach the eyes.

Remember to bring the eyes down on the head where a human's eyes would be. I originally had them too high, and once my daughter pulled them down, it made this adorable ghost look more realistic.

Step 4: How to Light your Sheet Ghost

I want to introduce you to the most fantastic tool Ryobi has ever made — a mini generator. LOL! You may find me saying that about their other Ryobi tools in other posts, but honestly, this is one of my favorites.

Ryobi mini generator to power ghost light decoration

This little powerhouse will light up your Halloween ghost, and you can hide it under the ghost. Isn't that awesome? No unsightly cords running across the floor. I have also used it on my cottage farmhouse Christmas porch to illuminate my garland.

Simply plug your lamp or lights into your mini generator, and light magic, you have a child-size Ghost light. This little thing makes me laugh every time I light it up.

Ryobi mini inverter generator to power a DIY lighted ghost

Every night, when you want to light your ghost, place the battery pack on the mini generator and tap the button on top. Your little ghost will illuminate beautifully.

How to Make a Life Size Ghost

Now that we made a toddler size ghost I thought you might like to know how to make an even larger ghost. A simple way to make a life size ghost is to use a taller stand like a plant stand with anything that is round on the top. You can use a basketball, lamp with a round shaped shade or styrofoam ball as the head. I'm sure you'll devise a creative idea. Then add a sheet and eyes made from black construction paper or felt and you have an adult size ghost.

Final Thoughts

Okay, wasn't that great fun and easy? Even if you are having a last minute event, you'll still have plenty of time to put one of the best DIY halloween decorations together. Kids of all ages will love this ghostly fun Halloween decoration this spooky season. It would make a great addition to your front yard or front porch on Halloween night. After we finished decorating our living room, fireplace, and mantel, my little nieces and nephews came over. I wondered if any of them would be scared of our sweet little ghost, and to my surprise, they weren't concerned. I think they were more concerned with the display of candy they were allowed to eat. LOL! Just another reason I think these ghosts make are perfect decorations for Halloween.

This year our Halloween home tour incorporates a bright and colorful traditional Halloween color scheme and takes us back to the 50s for good old-fashioned retro Halloween decor ideas.

Retro Halloween home tour

Halloween is a favorite holiday at our house and Halloween decorating is an event here. Last year my daughter, Hannah, created a witch's den on our mantel with vintage Halloween decorations. I created these dollar store DIY Jack o lanterns for decorations and an outdoor Halloween party table. This year we decided to brighten the color scheme and continue with a vintage aesthetic. This Halloween home tour has 1950s old-time trick-or-treating written all over it.

Halloween Home Tour

Take a guess where this year's theme all started. You are correct if you guessed the large retro Halloween art on the mantel. Hannah designed this fun retro printable and it is for sale in our Etsy shop. The color scheme and vintage vibe inspired all our Halloween decorations for this year.

Retro Halloween Mantel Decorations

Using one piece of art can make our whole design plan work together and unify your space. This art has orange, black, off-white, and yellow color schemes. Plus, it has a fun trick-or-treating friendly kids vibe. So here is how the mantel turned out. If you want more details on how we created this retro mantel, hop over to this blog post with vintage inspired Halloween decor mantel ideas.

Halloween mantel decorations vintage aesthetic

Because the fireplace mantel is a focal point in our living room, all the other decorations are added details that complement the mantel. If you like my ghostly friend, check out my post on how to make this DIY sheet ghost holiday decoration in only four steps. So let's take a step back and look at the other table decorations around the room.

Halloween Living Room Table Decorations

The color scheme and the joyful Halloween retro vibe were the focus of all the end tables. On our table, between the chairs, we simply place books and these jolly stacked pumpkins. Is there anything cuter than pumpkins in witch hats? So much fun!

Retro Halloween stacked jack o lanterns

Next to the sofa, we brought out one of our favorite retro Halloween decorations of this Beistle Halloween design. We can imagine this vintage Jack-o-lantern, black cat, and trick-or-treating kid's design was on a Halloween card in the 50s.

Beistle print of jack o lantern, black cat and trick or treating kids

Sitting beside the old card design is a black Jack-o-lantern that lights up on a stack of books. Varying heights of these three items is a design trick to make your decoration assemble balance and flow.

Under the television was the perfect spot for this large-mouth Jack o lantern, but he needed something to make him even more unique, so we filled his mouth and the chest counter with vintage brand candies or as close to vintage as we could find. It was the perfect addition. LOL!

Halloween Dining Table Centerpiece

Across the room from my living room is our informal dining room table. While visiting my sister, I saw these adorable ghosts. They had vintage written all over them. So we simply sat the ghosts on the table along with fresh pumpkins in our color scheme, and like magic, we had the simplest and easiest centerpiece I think we have ever made and adds a great Halloween touch to the dining area.

Retro ghost and pumpkin table centerpiece

My sister said she bought these ghosts years ago at the dollar store. I will add a link here and share where I found them if I ever encounter any.

Don't these ghosts remind you of the ghost on the fireplace hearth? Repetition is another excellent designer trick.

Ghosts and mini pumpkins for a vintage centerpiece

Halloween Entryway Decor

Last is our entryway. Actually, I probably should have started here since if you were touring our house for Halloween, that is where you would enter. But for this tour, we will end up at the door. I kept the dried leaves from our fall decorating ideas on our entryway table. We then added old books to elevate this old ceramic Jack-o-lantern with ghosts.

Vintage Halloween decorations

I just thought that maybe this year was not only a 1950s theme, but Jack o lanterns and ghosts also seemed to be the focus.

The funny thing about this decoration is that I made it long before I was married, probably 35 years ago. For many years when money was tight, this was our only Halloween decoration. Boy, have things changed. Now we go all out on Halloween by reusing pieces from years past and trying to make inexpensive things, like the printable art in our Etsy shop.

Halloween Decorations for Bookshelves

I just thought of one more thing and, if your budget is tight, you will love this one. Look at this cute candle I found while thrifting. I picked this cute candle Jack-o-lantern up, put him in the freezer and popped out the candle. Then I placed a Dollar Tree tea light battery-powered candle inside and added a sweet decoration to our bookcases.

Thrifted jack o lantern with candle

The funny thing about this decoration is that I placed it in a boo-basket to boo my little nephews and their mom for Halloween. I ended up spray painting the Jack-o-lantern gold on the inside and white on the outside so she could put him on her tiered tray.

Final Thoughts

I hope you have enjoyed this year's Halloween home tour. Everything was pretty simple, and we tried to keep the cost down by using things we already had and taking advantage of thrifting, Etsy, dollar stores, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, and making decorations. Hitting a yard sale, thrift store or estate sales are all great ideas for finding unique holiday decor.

Decorating for Halloween doesn't have to break the bank. All our printables in our Etsy shop are under 5 dollars, and we run sales all the time, so check out our Etsy shop for ideas for your holiday decorating.

Again, I hope you enjoyed this Halloween virtual tour and that it inspired you to decorate your home for Halloween. What theme will your Halloween decorations be this year? I thought of a few other fun themes you might enjoy:

  • Haunted house
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Ghost stories
  • Monster mash
  • Mad Scientist

I'd love to hear your creative ideas. Happy Halloween!

Happy Decorating!

Here are simple ideas to decorate your mantel for Halloween with a retro vintage aesthetic. These cheap and affordable vintage inspired Halloween decor ideas take you back to the 50s and are fun and easy to recreate.

Vintage Halloween decorations

When I was growing up, my mom was all into Halloween. She loved decorating outside, dressing up like a witch, and handing out candy to all the kids in the neighborhood. As a family, we had a blast working together to create a spooky house and then got lots of giggles when kids would come to our home for trick or treating. It was one of our favorite time of year.

Today, my daughters and I still love to decorate for Halloween. Last year our old-fashioned Halloween mantel was designed by my daughter, Hannah, and this year she has done it again with classic halloween decorations and fun vintage inspired Halloween decor ideas for your mantel.

Vintage Inspired Halloween Decor for your Mantel

If you have been around me very long, you know I encourage everyone to find an inspiration piece when developing a design. For our mantel, this beistle inspired Halloween printable is where it all began. Well, that and our love for vintage decor. LOL!

Vintage Halloween printable

So to start this project, here is a supply list of what you will need if you want to recreate this retro Halloween fireplace mantel.

Now that we have the supply list, let's start building this vintage inspired Halloween mantel.

Shop the post:

How to Make a Vintage Inspired Halloween Mantel

When decorating your mantel with a vintage vibe, you will want new and old pieces that fit the period. Let's make a statement with a large piece of art filled with colors that were popular during Halloween in the 50s.

Step 1: Large Beistle Halloween Printable

This beistle inspired Halloween print can be easily printed from our Etsy shop. All you do after you purchase it is to download print and frame. We have many more designs you can choose from if you want to create something a little different.

Vintage Halloween printable

This print is 20″ x 30″ and was printed at Walgreens. If you go to the Walgreens photo lab online, you can upload the print and pick it up on the same day. Also, I search the internet for coupons and usually get them for 50% off.

Next, I found the frame from Walgreens, right by the photo lab counter. For some reason, the plexiglass on the front of the frame was bowed, so I asked for a discount and got it for 40% off.

By the time I was finished, I paid under $25 for this large piece of art. That's not bad for a piece of large art for a holiday. Now let's talk about the moon man sitting next to him.

Step 2: Smaller Halloween Art or Printable

For the next piece, you will want something a little smaller. We used our moon man or man on the moon Hannah drew last year.

Man on the moon or moon face

If you do not have a large moon face, we have a printable option in our Etsy shop here. The same moon face is on our mantel but with a quote. You can print it larger and cut it out or keep the print like it is and frame it.

Now set your man on the moon, slightly covering the beistle inspired print, and you are ready for the next step, adding accessories.

Step 3: Fireplace Mantel Halloween Accessories

Things are starting to get fun now. First, let's place traditional orange jack-o-lanterns on the ends with battery-powered candles inside. I grabbed these orange Jack o lanterns from my Harry Potter table decorations. When I did the party idea, I cut their eyes, nose, and mouths out, making them perfect for this project.

Orange and white Jack o lantern set on a fireplace mantel

On one side of the mantel, set a cake stand and an orange Jack-o-lantern. Then on the left, set the orange jack-o-lantern directly on the mantle. Don't forget your battery candles.

Vintage Jack o lantern and Halloween radio sitting on a mantle

Next, place a retro-style radio on the left side and a cupcake stand on the right with a smaller jack-o lantern.

Vintage retro Halloween radio

Our radio came from Homegoods, but I found many more with a similar look in this online shop. I love the vintage look, these are my absolute favorites. It is the coolest thing ever because it plays tunes and has fun news and radio broadcasters that sound like witches, Dracula, and many more.

The choices are endless and I'll bet you can find some adorable vintage Halloween decorations at your nearby thrift stores. Or maybe your family has passed on some vintage halloween items.

Step 4: Halloween Garlands

Next on our agenda are garlands on the front of the mantel. Using the color scheme of black, orange, and off-white, we found this cute felt ball garland and bat garland to dress up the front of the fireplace.

Halloween garland in orange, black, gray and off white

Step 5: Paper Bats

You will notice that the mantel design is heavy on the right. To combat that problem, we printed bats on black paper, cut them out, and created bats flying from the back of my antique mora clock across and over to the prints on the mantel. These also make great, inexpensive Halloween party decorations.

Paper cut out black bats over a mantel retro Halloween decorations

See how things are starting to get batty around here? LOL! Repeating the bats from the Beistle art and the bats on the garland is a designer's trick of repetition and gradation. Your spooky decor is nearly complete. Now that the top of the fireplace is finished, let's don't forget the hearth.

Step 6: Halloween Decor for the Hearth

So often, I have neglected the hearth when decorating our fireplace for holidays, but this year Hannah and I focused just as much on the hearth. We decided to go with something more prominent, like this ghost.

Homemade light up ghost DIY that looks like a vintage child costume

There are so many ways you can make a ghost like this. Simply think of something round that sits on top of something tall. But make sure what is sitting under the ball is not as wide as the ball. Here is our clever trick for making a ghost.

First, we placed my mom's old baby doll high chair on the hearth, then set my grandma's old lamp on top. This lamp was perfect for two reasons. First, it provided a round head for the ghost and a creepy light inside. LOL!

Next, we draped a thin sheet on top of the ghost and taped black construction paper oval dots for the eyes. Last, I used a Ryobi mini generator under the chair with a battery and plugged in the lamp. Like magic, we have a three-foot ghost that is almost the star of the show. You can get the details in my post on a DIY sheet ghost Halloween decoration in 4 simple steps.

We placed tall candlestick holders painted black with vintage jack-o-lanterns on the other side of the hearth.

Giant candlestick holder with vintage orange jack o lanterns on top and battery powered candles inside

Final Thoughts

After your vintage Halloween mantel is done, sprinkle more vintage-inspired decorations around the room. We added a real pumpkin on the coffee table, a bowl of faux white, and real pumpkins.

On the dining table, we added more mini pumpkins in the orange color along with cute vintage-looking ghosts I borrowed from my sister. Little pumpkins are endlessly fun to decorate with at Halloween. This would also be a great place for a vintage-looking black cat decoration.

Once you have everything set, you are all ready for a movie night, a Halloween party, or for your everyday Halloween decorations. We love turning the light off at night when sitting down to watch tv and turning on all the candles and the ghost light.

Recently we had the most fun Harry Potter movie night and decorated our living and dining room like the Weasley's home. After having a blast, I thought you would like to know how to transform your room into the Weasleys burrow for Halloween or a movie night.

Harry Potter movie night

My family are huge Harry Potter fans. We've enjoyed the entire series. For several years, my family and I have been creating fun Harry Potter world themed ideas for Halloween.

We have transformed the entryway into Privet Drive with flying letters, and a fan favorite has been the Harry Potter table decorations with floating pumpkins over the table. But this Harry Potter movie night idea, we decided to create the Weasleys burrow, which has welcome, warm, and cozy written all over it.

I will walk you through what you need and how to transform your space. I'll also share some food and drink ideas for the movie night in the end.

Harry Potter Movie Night Decorations

Planning any party is fun, but pulling it together can be a little stressful. Start a few weeks early for the Weasley burrow transformation, gathering these items from your personal stock and thrifting.

You're ready to set up your Harry Potter party. Now let's walk through what to do with all these items. This is the fun part!

Weasley Fireplace Mantel

One of the first things we did was collect some trinkets. Since Arthur, the dad, loves to collect muggle trinkets; this is a great place to add a few of those items. It is also a great place to include books, a crock for the flue powder, and an old window.

First, set an old window on your mantel. In the movie and books, the house is made up of added rooms in the most precarious way that only magic can be holding it together. Because things are old and rickety, I thought an old window on the mantel would give the vibe of the old rickety house.

Old window on mantel as a Weasley decoration for a movie night

Next, add a photo of the Weasley family. If there is one thing I learned about the Weasleys is their love for family. Here is a great place to reflect that in your decor. All I did was copy and paste a picture I found online and decoupage it to a piece of wood and add wood around it to frame it.

Last, fill in with old or dark-colored books; we added some Harry Potter books here, trinkets like clocks, and battery-powered candles. It's an easy way to bring the Weasley vibe to your living room.

And don't forget a crock for the flue powder in case of any emergency trips to Diagon alley.

I tossed a few items on the hearth, like a crock for wood and a few pumpkins. There are no pumpkins from what I can tell in the books or movie scenes, but since it is fall, I thought some pumpkins would be fun.

Weasley Burrow Furniture

New furniture is not on the agenda for the Weasley house. Their home is full of old vintage upholstery and wood pieces. Some might say it is antique, while others say it is simply old furniture. Whether you have old or new furniture, here are ways to decorate to get the Weasley core aesthetic.

Blankets over Upholstery

First, toss blankets over all upholstered pieces. This will create a warm and cozy family room look; we tossed some old quilts and blankets over sofas and chairs.

Blankets covering sofas and chairs to get a Weasley look for a Potter movie night

We also brought my small sofa from the office into the living room to add to the cluttered look, and it gave an old quilt too.

Small sofa draped with an old quilt

Lots of Pillows

Next, we tossed throw pillows everywhere. The Weasley home is maximalism to the max. The more pillows, the better, even though there were usually only two on each sofa in the movie. Kids can use the extra pillows to set up floor nests with the best view of the screen.

Lots of throw pillows for a cozy Harry Potter movie night

Decorating End Tables and Coffee Table

Now let's talk about end tables and coffee tables. On your end tables, include more vintage books, and if you have an old lamp, set it on an end table. Last, print some of the Hogwarts flying letters from my entryway Halloween post and set them on the table next to the lamp, or subscribe to my newsletter to receive them for free.

Great decorating is in the details.

Speaking of details, let's talk about the coffee table. If you have a coffee table consider placing a tablecloth on it and top it with more books, chamber lamps, candles (we used battery-powered candles), apothecary jars, or other trinkets. Remember, the more, the merrier!

Weasley decorations on a coffee table of old books, lanterns, bowl full of pumpkins and a table cloth draped over table

Dining Table

Our dining table is a part of our living room, so it was fun decorating it for the movie night. First, mismatch chairs by collecting chairs from around the house. Two chairs are from my library, one from my office and another from a bedroom.

Different chairs at a table for Weasley decorations for a Harry Potter movie night

Since the family loved eating together at the table, we thought filling the table with lots of stuff like at the Weasley's kitchen table would be fun.

Harry Potter movie night treat table decorated like the Weasley burrow with bowls fill of popcorn, apples, cookies, and bread. Pitcher with butterbeer

So for the centerpiece, keep the clutter down the middle with old bowls, plates, pitchers, flowers, or anything that looks like a feast. This is a great place to put themed snacks and drinks for friends and family for movie night.

Since this is a movie night, we added popcorn to one bowl, pumpkin and jack o lantern cookies to another, baked bread, and a jar full of nuts and cranberries. Themed foods are also fun. We didn't have any on hand, but jelly beans would be a great addition to stand-in for Bertie Bott's beans.

Weasley burrow centerpiece

Serve drinks in the pitcher. This would be a fun place to serve butterbeer or polyjuice potion for guests. They will love it! You can exchange your favorite quotes over snacks and compare your Hogwarts houses.

Bookcases

If you have bookcases add more stuff to them. Books, books, and more books, but if you don't have lots of books, stack dishes, plants, dishtowels, and more muggle trinkets will help too. The main thing is stuff but it's a good idea to keep it old and vintage looking.

Another fun idea is adding Hedwig, Harry Potters owl, or the Weasleys owl to a plant stand. I share how to make Hedwig in my Harry Potter celebration post.

Wall Decorations for Weasley Party

Here is a great place to add more coziness and implement the Weasley family wizarding world. Add a few command hooks by the front door and hang a Hogwarts robe and other items like hats, scarves, and such. Then under the garments place lots of boots. There is a description in the book that talks about all the books by the door.

Decorate your entryway for Halloween like the Weasley home in the Harry Potter for a movie night party

Next, hang a rug on the wall or, in our case, over a door. This adds to the rustic old cozy vibe of the Weasleycore aesthetic.

Last, print out our free Weasley cross-stitch design and frame it for the wall. This download is free with a subscription to my newsletter. After you subscribe, you will receive a link to my print library full of printables. And guess what? There is another Harry Potter print in there too.

Weasley House Magic

After you have all the decorations in place, you will need a little magic to complete the look. You don't have to do this, but it will make the room much more fun to add some magical moments.

Magical Vacuum Robot Broom

My favorite magic piece we made is the vacuum robot broom. I came across it on hauz.and.co Tiktok and got a good laugh. If you have a robot vacuum, then all you need cutting tools and supplies. I found everything I needed at Hobby Lobby.

Magical Crocheting Blanket

Busy moms need all the help they can get, and Molly is one busy mom. So she used magic to help around the house by sweeping, like the broom working on its own, and making blankets like this magical crocheting blanket.

Magic crocheting blanket as a part of decorations like the Weaslys home for a Harry Potter movie night

This is simple to make by screwing hooks into the ceiling and then running the fishing line down to hold the outside of the crocheting needles into place. Then more fishing lines down near the middle where the needles meet. Only this fishing line loops over the hook and runs down the back of the chair.

You can stop or add more magic by attaching these lines to an oscillating fan. When you turn on the fan, it will move the needles like they are powered by magic.

We didn't have a fan, so we simply kept it a floating crocheting blanket. But we tried using a record player, which slightly moved the needles and twisted the fishing line. But I feel pretty certain the oscillating fan idea will work.

Isn't the magical elements of a crocheting blanket and magic broom the icing on the cake? Your guest will get a kick out of these added little details and was so much fun to put together.

Well, guess what? We are all done and ready for a Harry Potter movie night.

Final Thoughts

Here is another look a the whole room. Now that the decor is finished let's talk about food.

Harry Potter movie night Weasley burrow decorations

My friend Mel has some fun Harry Potter-themed treats recipes you can try, or you can shop for items at the grocery store like butter beer, fruit, and other fun snacks. Since this is a movie night idea, don't forget the popcorn. That is a traditional item and perfect for your Harry Potter movie night party.

Don't forget the themed food. Mel's dreamy butterbeer cupcakes look and sound amazing! Also, she has a quick and easy butterbeer recipe that your guests will enjoy. I also love these golden snitch cookie pops, and last, you must check out this polyjuice potion drink recipe. It is very simple and so funny!!

Now that you have food ideas and decorations, where do you get the Harry Potter movies? I have ours on Amazon Prime. If you are not a prime member, I want to recommend it. We purchase digital movies on there like Harry Potter and watch them for family movie night all the time. It is a great place to store your favorite movies and watch many free ones.

How do you decorate for a Harry Potter movie night? Whether it's your first Harry Potter movie or a Harry Potter movie marathon, this set up will be the perfect cozy event that will ensure a great time. I'm sure it won't be the last time your family enjoys a Harry Potter themed event. Thanks for joining me here on the blog, and I hope you have found this Harry Potter film night in the burrow idea fun and helpful!

These DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations are so easy to make and will wow your guests. I will walk you through how to make this awesome vintage-inspired jack-o'lantern centerpiece and picnic table setting. Before you know it you will have a tablescape set for a memorable All Hallows Eve.

DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations

After making the Jack family, the DIY dollar store painted jack o lanterns, my wheels started turning so I created these easy DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations. But then I got to thinking how cute and spooky would this table be if we moved it into the woods.

Well, I packed up the dishes and moved the Jack family into those creepy woods, and created the Halloween table again. You should have seen them all bobbing their head on my radio flyer wagon. LOL!

DIY Outdoor Halloween Party Table Decorations

Let's get started going step by step on how to make this Halloween table using a white-painted luminary Jack-o-lantern centerpiece. Use my list of supplies to guide you through things you have at home first. Once you have marked off your list of what you already have I will make suggestions on where to find the other pieces.

Outdoor Halloween Party Supplies List

I want to recommend collecting all your supplies first before moving the table outside. Also, practice making the table inside first. This will make putting it together outside so much easier.

Outdoor Table and Chairs

To start let's set up your table. If you are planning your party in the woods walk around and an outdoor space that is level. You don't have to do the woods as we did. You can set it up in your backyard, front yard, deck, or porch. Then carry your table out and place it where you want it.

I used a level to determine if my table was level but you don't have to do this. If your table is leaning too much in one direction using a block of wood, brick, rock, or anything that will level it out and make it sturdy.

Next, if you want to make your table larger as we did simply place a piece of plywood on top. I keep this piece of plywood on my work table in the garage. I have come in handy to create many tables like our large nurse graduation party ideas table we created inside.

DIY Outdoor Halloween party table idea

Now you will need chairs. I have four outdoor folding french bistro chairs I used on the sides and then two of my dining table chairs on the ends. I think any chairs would work for this table — black, white, indoor, or outdoor.

White Halloween Table Covering

Next, simply toss something white over the table. You can use an old white sheet, curtain, blanket, or tablecloth. The main thing is to use something white.

White tablecloth for an outdoor Halloween jack o lantern tablescape

Then lay a piece of wood that is painted white down the center of the table. Keeping a piece of wood around for table centerpieces is so handy. Simply paint a piece of 2 x 10 with chalk paint or whatever you have on hand and distress it with sandpaper along the edges and here or there. Then place it in the center of your table.

Layer a centerpiece for a Halloween dinner party

Make sure if you are making your wood centerpiece layer for the first time to place chargers on your table. Then measure in the middle for the piece of wood. This will help determine how wide and long your piece of wood should be.

Next toss this fall paper leaf garland on the table. This was easy decorations to make using items from the Dollar Tree and what I had around the house. It takes about a day to create and it is the perfect project to do while watching Halloween movies or anything on tv. LOL!

DIY paper leaf garland centerpiece

I laid the garland on the piece of wood and curled it on the ends so it doesn't lay completely under the chargers.

DIY Halloween Decorations Jack-o'-Lantern Centerpiece

Now for the fun part and that is creating this luminary Jack-o'-lantern centerpiece. These pumpkins heads are easy to make. I have been looking all season long for different sizes. Some I found at dollar stores and one I found at a thrift store. The directions on how to make them are in the supply list above.

Depending on the sizes of your white pumpkin heads will determine how your design lays out. If you have the same size Jack's that I have then followed along exactly as I have it here.

If your jack o lanterns are different I would play around placing them on the wood and garland until you get them the way you want.

First, sit the large pumpkin painted white Pottery Barn Jack-o'-lantern on first on the left side. Then halfway between the large Jack and the other end place the cake stand.

Large Pottery Barn jack o lantern painted white

Next, sit two small ones in front of the cake stand. We call these the twins and named them after Katherin, one of the blogging assistance, and her twin sister Kayla. LOL!

White jack o lantern centerpiece for a Halloween dinner party table

And then a medium size jack on the cake stand and then turn two medium-size jack o lanterns around and place them on the end and between the large jack and cake stand.

Jack o lantern centerpiece

Last, place battery-powered candles inside the jack o lanterns, and your happy jack o lantern centerpiece is finished. Now you are ready to create the place settings.

Happy white carved dollar store jack o lantern pumpkins

Outdoor Halloween Party Place Settings

First, sit all your chargers down on the table. These chargers from Coton Colors are so adorable. I used them on my Thanksgiving dinner table last year that was also outdoors. But you could easily create something similar by spray painting Dollar Tree chargers and then adding polka dots.

Add chargers to your Halloween tablescape

Next, sit white plates on the table. I love mixing old and new, cheap and expensive pieces in decorations. It is a clever way to get a high-end look without breaking your bank. I got these white plates from Dollar Tree.

White plates added to a Halloween wood country tablescape

Now let's make something to go in the center of your white plate. These ribbon-tied napkins are so easy. First place a 24″ piece of gold or white satin ribbon on the table and then place a black paper napkin on top in the center both ways. Then sit a fork and spoon in the middle and tie the ribbon into a bow like you are tieing your shoelaces.

The napkin should fold in nicely when your tie it together. If it doesn't you can adjust the napkins after it is tied. Once you have the bow done slip the spoon and fork out. The spoon and fork make the napkin look more fluffy after you are finished.

How to make a fun Halloween table

Now place all your napkins in the center of the white plate and then add your silverware and glassware.

Glassware and silverware for a Halloween tablescape

Guess what? The outdoor Halloween tablescape is all finished. I have a few more details that will make your party the best ever.

Halloween party table decoration ideas and DIY

Conclusion

Remember the basket we used to carry all our supplies? Well, place it on a chair or on the ground and add some blankets. This will add a nice decoration and make your party cozy especially if it is cold outside. It will give your guests something warm in case they didn't come prepared for cooler weather.

Also, if you have a few more pumpkin heads place them around for decor. I added Jack and Jill to my blanket stash. This was the perfect touch to the DIY outdoor Halloween decoration idea.

Basket full of white painted dollar store carved pumpkins and a fall blanket

Now set a timer to turn on the candles about 15 minutes before the party and now you are all ready for guests. As Halloween night comes on the luminaries will make the best fun spooky Halloween decorations. LOL!

These DIY Dollar Store Halloween decoration ideas of painted jack o lanterns are simple to make and inexpensive. When we are done carving and painting these adorable plastic jack o lanterns, it will look like you paid high end on your holiday decor. Easy Halloween decorations and fun Halloween craft ideas to decorate your home.

DIY Dollar store Halloween jack-o'-lantern

I am excited to show you this simple DIY Dollar store Halloween decoration idea of painted jack o lanterns but let's time travel back to August to where it started and where the inspiration came from.

While traveling to my niece's house before the Halloween season began I stopped at a store to take a break. The dollar store Halloween decorations drew me to them even though it was August. LOL! The first thing I saw was those adorable cheap jack o lanterns. But this time, I noticed tiny ones along with the regular size ones. They were so cute!

Then I remembered Liz Marie Galvan's white jack-o-lantern mantel last year and my creative juices started flowing. I started imagining chalk-painted happy pumpkin faces on my bookcases. So before I knew it, I had a back seat full of cheesy smiling pumpkin heads. And that is how it all began.

As the months went on, I found another plastic pumpkin jack o lanterns at thrift stores. This one was old and had Dracula fangs. So I adopted him too, and he came home with us.

Now that I have a family of Jack's I started experimenting to get a high-end vintage farmhouse bright and moody look to them. And that is how the new family of Jacks came to live here for Halloween.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

DIY Painted Jack-o-lanterns

Let's get started by gathering dollar store supplies and making you these white jack o lantern decor with grey painted tattoos. With all projects, I recommend collecting all your materials first. It makes your Halloween jack o lantern craft so much more enjoyable when you have everything you need when you start.

Here is a list of what you need to make this farmhouse vintage white jack-o-lantern decor.

All these items can be found online, in a craft store, or at your local dollar store. Now that you have all your craft supplies let me encourage you to read all the directions first. It will help you see the big picture of how to make these and make the jack o lantern craft decoration so much better.

Shop Supplies:

DIY Jack o lanterns

Have you noticed this project is inexpensive? I love adding decorations to my home where it cost no or little money. To begin let's start by removing the handles. This is a very easy step.

Remove Plastic Handle on Jack-o-lantern

Simply take your scissors or wire cutters and snip the plastic handle off. If you have a vintage pumpkin like my little Dracula it may be more challenging.

Dollar store jack o lantern project

This Dracula pumpkin has a metal pin in the plastic handle and head. That thing was a booger to get out. I had to work and work with the wire cutters but I finally succeeded. I removed the plastic handle and left the pin in the head. LOL! I figured the pin could stay and I could paint over it.

How to Carve a Plastic Jack-o-lanterns

This is probably the most challenging part, but it is manageable. Begin by pushing your x-acto knife down into one corner of the eye, nose, or mouth and then grab your knife with your fist and draw it towards you keeping it inside the plastic. It should slice right through the plastic.

How to carve a plastic jack o' lantern

Some areas were fussier and then others were like cutting butter. I am not sure why but maybe the plastic was thinner there. Anyways, I had to use a little muscle but not much.

Make sure any little slivers of plastic are not left behind. You want the cutouts to look clean and smooth. Now let's paint the inside.

.

Spray Paint Inside Plastic Jack-o-lantern

Next, let's spray paint the inside of the head. The easiest way to do this is to set the buckets on their side between two other objects. If you don't have anything extra you can use two of the other jacks.

First, shake your can of paint well. Then, start by spraying straight inside the middle. Spray lightly because you can always add more but you don't want too much. I did a short spritz of spray at a time. After you cover the center bottom then start spraying around the inside edges. Rotate the head as you spray.

Spray paint plastic jack o lantern gold inside

Go ahead and bring all your plastic pumpkins inside to dry. The spray paint will dry quickly.

Spray paint a plastic dollar store jackolantern

Chalk Paint Outside Plastic Jack-o-lanterns

Next, let's paint the outside of the pumpkins. I love the look of a chalky vintage paint, so I went with Dixie Belle chalk paint. Begin by using your artist's paintbrush and dipping it in a little water and the paint. A wet brush will help make the chalk paint no drag when painting.

Now start at the top or bottom and make a long stroke of white chalk paint from one end to the other. Keep repeating this, moving all the way around the jack o lantern.

Chalk paint dollar store jack o' lantern

When you get to the eyes, nose, and mouth, make sure to brush in the plastic edge. And I painted the rim at the top. I started to leave it gold but it looked cleaner to paint it white. You don't have to paint the bottom of the pumpkin.

White painted jack-o-lanterns

Next, add a second coat of paint and then let them dry for about an hour, and then you are ready to decorate your home with these adorable jack o lanterns.

Easy Jack o' Lantern Art

Now if you want to add a little creativity to your jack o lantern let's paint a little art to their head or to be fun we can call it a tattoo. LOL! Simply use a silver metallic sharpie permanent marker and start creating a design. I did a search on Pinterest for designs as inspiration and when I found one I used the shapes to create a tattoo for the pumpkin. No art lesson required!

Tattoo jack-o'-lantern

I think it gives Jack a classy look and makes him more decorative during the day when you can see his tattoos.

Lighting your White Jack-o'-lantern

Now for the fun part, and that is adding a candle. Use a battery-powered candle like this one I found at Target. I got two different sizes for the pumpkin heads.

I used a larger candle for the large Jack's. If you get the same candle, you will need batteries for this one. For the small pumpkins, I bought a pack of smaller candles like tea lights. They came with a nice battery.

Adding candles to dollar store Jack-o'-lanterns

Simply place your candles inside the pumpkins. When nighttime comes, turn on the switch at the bottom and sit the candle back down inside. The lighted jack-o'-lanterns add such a beautiful glow with the gold inside.

Decorating with Your Painted Jack o Lanterns

Can you believe how easy this DIY dollar store Halloween decoration turned out? I want to share a few creative DIY Halloween decorations you can do with your chalk-painted Jack-o-lantern lanterns.

First, add them to your bookcases. It's a great way to get in the Halloween spirit. They look so cute, all lit up with battery-powered white candles at night while watching a Halloween movie.

White chalk painted dollar store pumpkins with a face on bookcase

Another fun all Hallows Eve easy idea is adding them to your fireplace mantel. Liz decorated her living room mantel with white jack-o-lanterns and it looked so cute. They are the perfect addition to decorate your front door or entryway.

You can also make a tablescape for a Halloween party with them. We share how to use it in this DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations. Sit my DIY paper leaf garland down first and then the white jack-o'-lanterns with candles, and you have a happy spooky centerpiece. Talk about a fun dinner party for kids and adults.

See why painting designs around the pumpkin come in handy? Now you can turn the faces in different ways, and the guests at that table get a pretty view no matter what side of the pumpkin they see.

Jack-o'-lantern art on a white dollar tree pumpkin

And last, you can hang them from the ceiling as I did in our Harry Potter table decorations. This was another easy, fun, and cheap Halloween decoration idea.

Conclusion

Okay, so what do think? Are you going to give the white jack-o-lanterns a try? Are you ready to give your home some Halloween spirit? I'd love to hear your great ideas! I almost forgot that the large jack-o-lanterns came from Pottery Barn. They arrived black; to be honest, they just disappeared into the dark when lit up. I knew the white would make them stand out more.

Old fashioned halloween decorations on a mantle

One night while I was sleeping an elf, my daughter Hannah, starting playing with our old fashioned Halloween decorations on the mantle. When I woke up I saw this Beistle Halloween inspired piece of art, the man in the moon face, staring at me as I stood there with my bedhead self.

I will be honest. I whispered all by myself, “whoa, that is so cool.”

The decorations were not finished so together we completed the Cottagecore Halloween mantle look and couldn't wait to walk you through how to decorate your fireplace for Halloween with vintage decorations and all.

I am so excited so let's get started!!!

Old Fashioned Halloween Mantle Decorating

The best way I can describe how to make this Cottagecore Halloween scene is with layering. Layering big and small pieces is the key to making this fireplace design.

We are going to start with the back and work our way forward. If you are not the best at creating balance and design follow along, piece by piece to create your mantle. If you have a good sense of design then you can adjust accordingly. So let's begin with the larger piece of art in the middle.

Halloween Printable Wall Art

In the very center, you want to hang a piece of art like this Halloween printable sign. Festive Halloween signs are a great way to decorate for Halloween.

Halloween printable sign

This quote really captures the essence of the Cottagecore Halloween mantle. It says, “When witches go riding and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers 'tis near Halloween.” Isn't that the perfect quote for a Cottagecore mantle?

You can find this Halloween printable and more in our Etsy shop. There are detailed instructions on how you can print it and where we printed ours in one day. And you can find even more printable Halloween decorations in this post.

We placed our printable on top of the mirror that was already sitting here. It is good to make use of what you have instead of buying something new.

Once you have that large piece in the middle it is time to go to the next layer and which is something smaller on the right and the left.

Layer Halloween Art on Mantle

The next layer on your Halloween mantle is something a little smaller but still eye-catching. Remember these three pieces are the centerpiece of your mantle. This is where the “man in the moon” face came in. This guy is inspired by Beistle Halloween not so spooky decor paper decoration.

He is one of many retro Halloween decorations. Other favorites are classic black cats and witches with hats. I love their designs. They make cute vintage Halloween cards.

Man in the moon Beistle Halloween inspired wall art

This winking smiling moon unique vintage look grabs your attention when you walk into the living room. Going with a large full moon made the whole mantle.

What is Beistle Halloween decorations?

Beistle Halloween decorations come from the 1920s from a party supplies company. These vintage Halloween decorations helped to make Halloween popular in the United States. The Beistle Company is the oldest continuing party supply company in the USA today.

Sit your man in the moon face on one side, a mirror or something on the other side, and include a small piece of art too. You can get the moon faces on Etsy also. They come in many different facial expressions.

Cottagecore old fashioned Halloween decorations

The small piece of art of an old house helps create the vibe of Cottagecore. Cottagecore is all about a feeling. Of creating a stage of the story. If you want to learn more about Cottagecore and how to decorate in this style try my Cottagecore decor ideas post.

.

Decorating the Mantle Shelf

Now it is time for smaller items on the mantle shelf. Here is another spot you will do layering except for this time your layering will be vertical and horizontal. Start with the ends and stack books and make them old-fashioned-looking books.

Cottagecore Halloween decorations

Turn the books around so you see the pages and not the binding. This really lends to a more creepy Halloween decoration.

Next start sitting candlesticks, and apothecary jars on top of the books and all along the mantle shelf.

Old fashioned Halloween decorations on mantle

Let the candles in the jars drip down on the bottles if you have some in bottles. You can add food coloring to the water in some bottles, put Epson salt in others, or even dirt. This will make the jars looks like they belong in a witch's den or a mad scientist's laboratory.

SHOP THE POST:

Next, add some dollar store bright colored jack o' lanterns like ours or even fancier ones like these from Pottery Barn. We painted our jack o lanterns with white Dixie Belle chalk paint, then painted the black areas with black and then brushed brown wax in the grooves to give it an antique Halloween unique decoration look.

Adding the finish gave them a little bit of a worn look and made them a spooky jack and baby jack. LOL!

Add battery-powered candles inside to give them a mysterious glow. Toss in a few mini pumpkins to finish the shelf. Little pumpkins are a fall and Halloween staple. They make the best fillers. I have a whole post on how to decorate with small pumpkins.

Halloween Garland Mantle Decor

Now to polish the fireplace mantle Halloween design let's add a leafy cute garland pop of color like this one from Hearth and Hand. We nailed our garland features in with teeny tiny nails. You can actually see how if you go back to the photo of the books.

Halloween garland for Cottagecore mantle

We also tossed in a sprig of fall foliage in between the small house art and man in the moon. I found these in the dollar spot and Hearth and Hand section at Target.

Decorating your Hearth for Halloween

Last, always consider something for the hearth. We already had these crocks so we tossed in some pumpkins and then made this witches broom from what we had laying around the house and yard.

Cottagecore Halloween fireplace decorations using a witch's broom

This witch broom was so easy to make and it only took us an hour. We have directions on how to make a witch broom in another post.

After you sit your broom on the crock add some mini battery-powered lights to it letting the battery box sit inside of the crock. We also added a cinnamon broom down inside to give the whole mantle the scent of autumn.

Halloween hearth decorating ideas

This mantle would be perfect in a haunted house design or for a Halloween bash. Your party guests will get a good laugh at the large eyes smiling face greeting them. Well, guess what? You are all finished!!!

Conclusion

Are you starting to see the story that was created from the Halloween mantle idea? We didn't plan it this way — it just happened but we thought it is the perfect Halloween witch's fireplace.

Vintage old fashioned Cottagecore Halloween mantle idea

You see this Witchcore story is about a nice little witch who likes to be helpful to others. She lives in the tiny little cottage in the countryside with the man in the moon. The quote on the mantle describes her favorite coming holiday. She has all her remedies on the mantle, and candles to work by. And of course, her flying broom is propped on her crocks for when she heads out on Halloween night.

Halloween is so fun to decorate for. My mom used to love to decorate our yard and porch and watch the kids come for candy with giggles. I guess you might say like mother like daughter, and apparently, the Halloween bug has passed on to my daughter, Hannah, too.

If you love this Halloween idea check out my DIY dollar store Halloween decoration idea using the same Jack-o'-lanterns on the mantle.

Happy Decorating or maybe I should say Happy Halloween!

Learn how to make a witch broom for your Halloween decorations using items around your house and yard. This simple DIY witch broom project only takes about an hour to make and is a fun Halloween project to do with friends and family.

How to make a witch broom

This year we went all out decorating our vintage Cottagecore Halloween mantel but as we were finishing the final touches my daughter said “how do you make a witch broom.” We put our heads together and literally threw one together using branches and twigs.

It was so easy until I knew you would want to know how to make decorative witch brooms too. Witch decor is the quintessential decoration for All Hallows Eve so if you could have a witch's broom in your decor and it didn't cost you any money wouldn't you want one too?

Let's get started making DIY brooms by collecting five items from your yard, craft closet, and pantry.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

How to Make a Witch Broom

Can you believe all you need is five items on making a witches broom? I still cannot believe how quick and easy we threw this broom together and it was the one thing that polished our Halloween fireplace decoration.

  • Broom handle or walking sticks
  • Twig and branches
  • Twine or string
  • Scissors
  • Gardening cutting tool like loppers (optional)

If you don't have twigs and branches lying around you may need to cut a few from trees. We used old crepe myrtle branches from my husband's last cutting. They were laying in the woods behind our fire pit. Anyways, let's break this down into simple steps so you can get your witch broom completed too.

Making a DIY Witches Broom

Witch's Broom Stick

To begin grab a long stick. We used an old wooden walking stick for hiking but you can use unscrew a broom or mop handle from the broom base or if you need to you can cut one off a dollar store broom.

A wood stick from a tree branch for the broom handle will look the best. Another option is looking for a long stick and slicing off anything on the trunk with an ax or knife. Be very careful if you do this and make sure you are cutting far away from your hand that is holding the stick. The main thing is that you want the wood somewhat smooth.

Keep in mind that witches' brooms are typically rustic looking so it doesn't have to be perfect.

.

Twigs or Branches

Next, collect lots of twigs or branches for the broom bristles. We used crepe myrtle branches. The end of the crepe myrtle grows out to a nice narrow point which makes it perfect for this rustic broom.

DIY witch broom

We pulled about 10 branches that had smaller limbs. Our branches have been sitting out in the weather for some time so they were nice and crispy — meaning they snapped into without needing any loppers or gardening cutting tools.

If your branches are newer you will need something to cut them.

Now that you have your branches let's cut them or break off the limbs. We did not measure here but basically broke off small pieces of limbs from the myrtle branches. We looked for the skinner branches, the ones that were long enough and thin enough.

How to make a rustic witch broom

Some limbs were shorter and others were longer. Remember it is okay to be flexible and not perfect because this is a rustic witch's broom.

Once you have about 50 limbs trimmed lay them in the bundle to attach to the stick.

Twine to Attach Broom Branches

First cut a piece of twine 48″ long. Then lay it down on the ground or work table. Then sit about half the branches on the twine. We placed our twine up from the base of the limbs about 5 inches.

Now lay the end of the stick on top of the stack of branches. Next lay the rest of the branches on the top of the broomstick and start wrapping the twine around the branches and broomstick.

It helps to tie the twine as you wrap it around. Once you get towards the end of the twine tie it in a knot.

Making a witch broom from twigs and twine

After you finish tieing the top of the broom look for extra long pieces and break or cut them off. This will make your bristles look somewhat more even.

Now guess what? You are all finished making a witch broom. Wasn't that fun! Now that you have your own witch broom let's talk about decorating with a witch's broom.

Vintage Halloween Mantle Decorations

Once our broom was finished we added it to the hearth propping it up on an old crock with cinnamon brooms inside for that fall scent. For fun, I added battery-powered mini lights to the bottom of the broom. It was so easy to place the light box down in the crock to hid it.

Easy witch broom DIY

Decorating a mantle for Halloween is easy. You can pick a theme or just go vintage and add old apothecary jars, the man in the moon, jack o'lanterns, Etsy cute sign of Halloween digital art, or anything that fancies you. But there are so many places you can decorate with your witches' broom.

Vintage Halloween mantle in witchcore style

We have loads of Halloween mantle ideas that will give you inspiration on where to place your rustic broom. And we talk in more detail about how to decorate with old fashioned Halloween decorations for a mantel in a Cottagecore style or maybe I should say I — Witchcore.

Conclusion

There are so many fun ways you can decorate with witches' brooms. You can stand it up on your front porch, front door or hang it on the wall including over the fireplace. And you can leave it out for fall decor too.

It would be cute to add a black cats silhouette by the broom. We have a post on how to make a silhouette in last year's Silhouette Halloween mantle idea. And you can call this a Harry Potter broom and add it to decorations like my Halloween decorations for a Harry Potter celebration.

Or you can suspend it from the ceiling with a fishing line like it is flying around the room. It would even be magical if you made more than one and hung them from the ceiling along with these adorable floating witch hats. You can also make these cute paint and stencil Halloween decorations and create a cute Halloween fairy garden. The options are endless.

We had so much fun making the witch's broom and decorating the mantle for Halloween. Well now that you know how to make a witch broom where do you plan to decorate with the witch broom?

Happy Decorating!

If you are loving these ideas then you will love the rest.

MAN ON THE MOON HALLOWEEN MANTLE

Ourhomeonhighst

Probably the most popular Halloween decoration this year is the man on the moon. Look at how beautiful this moon face has been decorated on this mantle by Dave at ourhomeonhighst on Instagram.

There are so many wonderful ideas you can glean from this fireplace. Try adding book pages to the front of your fireplace if your mantle is faux and not a real functioning fireplace. And the branches on the left remind me of witches flying brooms in the making.

What a wonderful Halloween fireplace idea.

BOOK PAGE GHOSTLY GARLAND

Gypsylou_designs

Speaking of old vintage book pages look at this adorable garland idea from Erin at Gypsylou_designs. There are so many fun things you can do when decorating with books like a cute garland.

Consider adding a ghostly garland to your mantle and if you don't have time to make one Erin will have them for sale soon in her Gypsy Lou Design Revival Etsy shop.

Let's keep the happy haunt ideas going with another fun Halloween design.

JACK O' LANTERN MANTLE

RUSTIC FARMHOUSE HALLOWEEN MANTLE

Shady_pines3interiors

My go-to when looking for rustic farmhouse inspiration is Beth at shady_pines3interiors. Not only is she crazy talented when it comes to design but she always does a great job of embodying rustic and cozy.

Look at how adorable this rustic Halloween fireplace turned out. The Halloween book page as art, spiders, candles, and webs are perfect but add the autumn branch at the bottom and it is the icing on the cake.

BATS, CROWS, SKELETONS & OTHER GOODIES ON A HALLOWEEN FIREPLACE

Halloween fireplace decorations in black and white and ravens, skeletons, bats, garland, candles.

Bats and black crows are trending items to decorate your Halloween mantel with. Jaclyn Mari includes those and so much more on her spooky mantel.

She has found a not so creepy way to include skeletons on her mantel. If you zoom into her firewood, you'll notice a funny skeleton hand piled on her wood. So funny!

There are so many fun details on this mantel. Look closely at the black candle holders and the cheery skeleton crack me up. And her faux pumpkins look so real.

The string of crow lights creates a great glow when you don't have a fire blazing. Isn't this a beautiful white Halloween mantel? And it fits perfectly into the modern farmhouse Halloween mantel department.

PUMPKINS SPILLING OUT OF A FIREPLACE

Halloween decorations for mantle with bats, pumpkins, ravens and black candles.

Shelley, from Crazy Wonderful, gives A Quick & Easy Take On Halloween Decorations and includes her great fireplace decor in her living room.

She has also included crows and bats, but how about the overflow of pumpkins. That is a precious idea to have them spilling out of your fireplace.

We love the colors of the pumpkins/gourds as well! Aren't these great Halloween decoration ideas.

HALLOWEEN MANTEL COMPLETE WITH HOCUS POCUS & APPLES

Hocus Pocus bannr on a white fireplace mantle for Halloween.

This is a simple Halloween mantel that Jenna Kate at Home pulled together.

It's cute with the magical words Hocus Pocus in garland and the apples nestled into the greenery. Almost makes us want to watch Snow White.

Her velvety pumpkins are scrumptious as well.

HAUNTED HOUSE SIGN ON A MANTEL

Haunted House sign, ravens, jack o lanterns, black and white garland and banner on a white fireplace mantle.

We've had a look at Cherie's, at Sweet Rose And Wren, Halloween Table Decorations in the past.

This time we get to see how she decorates her fireplace mantel for Halloween. The Haunted House sign is perfect and her metal jack-o-lanterns are adorable.

GHOSTLY HALLOWEEN FIREPLACE

Cute Halloween fireplace mantle ideas with bats, "hey boo," ba nner, tassel garland with ghost faces, bat garland, and peach pumpkins.

Aurelie's fireplace is totally charming!

Her tassel ghost garland is so cute and with our How To Make Yarn Tassel tutorial, would be so easy to make for your own home.

She's also done such a cute job decorating the mirror above her mantel with paper bats and we love all her pastel orange pumpkins!

COLORFUL RAINBOW PUMPKINS ON A HALLOWEEN MANTEL

Pumpkins painted in rainbow color sitting on a white fireplace mantle. Happy Halloween garland hanging on front of the mantle.

Have you checked out Kara Whitten's Instagram page, Kailo Chic? It's so fun and colorful.

It's no surprise that her Halloween mantel would be filled with a rainbow of pumpkins and topped with a few spider friends. The assortment of pumpkins from large to mini pumpkins is so adorable!

So much fun and bright decor for what can be a dark and gloomy holiday season.

OCTOBER WOODEN SIGN ON A MANTEL

October sign and fall colored leaves on a mantle.

This is a great farmhouse fireplace of Sheila's, from Simply Joy at Home.

The October wooden sign pulls together the great buffalo check in the pillows she has. Her crows are also sitting so sweetly on her cathedral window frame.

Halloween Silhouette Mantle

Silhouette Halloween Mantle DIY with Disney's Mary Poppins, Cinderella's coach, Alice and the Rabbit and the Tin Man.

Try something non-traditional and make a collage or gallery wall of silhouettes for Halloween. This silhouette Halloween mantle idea is easy to create using silhouettes of your favorite trick or treat characters.

AUTUMN HALLOWEEN MANTLE

Homeonnativetrail

I love this mantle and how smoothing it marries autumn and Halloween. This is a great idea from Amy at Homeonnativetrail on Instagram.

Consider adding greenery around all your pumpkins and jack o' lanterns. This idea softens the landscape of a fireplace and gives it life. This mantle has great symmetry too. If you love symmetry then add tall lanterns or something tall on the sides.

A MANTLE FULL OF EUCALYPTUS, CANDLESTICKS, PUMPKINS & FRAMES

Greenery on a chippy mantle with white pumpkins sitting on top and black candle sticks on the ends.

Now that we have transitioned to mantles with autumn and Halloween let's look at a few fall ideas. Georgia Mae's at Home is a glimpse into Michelle's home. This chippy painted fireplace mantel looks beautiful with the neutral colors displayed on top.

The foliage that she has used reminds us of fall leaves outside. And the simplicity of her empty picture frames, black candlesticks, and one book page wooden sign is perfection.

CANDLES & WHITE PUMPKINS ON TOP OF A FIREPLACE

Baskets, candles, and cotton garland on a fall mantle.

This is our easy DIY fall decor mantle.

Using cotton garland along with some white candles and small pumpkins keeps things easy as pie, yet delightful. Stacking your pumpkins on things such as the candle lids is a great way to add dimension.

CONCLUSION

Is your mind racing with all of these great Halloween mantel ideas? All these ideas have us dreaming up some ghouls and goblins. If you prefer a vintage vibe, check out my post about vintage inspired Halloween decor mantel ideas.

A few fun things to consider when planning your not-so-spooky mantle are a black cat, dark bats, old windows, creepy spiders, apothecary jars, witch-style decorations, spooky lighting, black owl, autumn colors, black branch, and spooky garland to name a few. LOL!

It's fun to not just decorate in the fall spirit and forget about the favorite holiday in the middle of the season.

Happy Decorating!
