Mother's Day Dollar Tree Craft Flower Printable DIY

Anyone can print out a flower on Etsy and frame it for mom but for this project, you are printing out the birth month flower for each of Mom's children. These birth month flowers come in a neutral color so this wall hanging will work perfectly with all design styles.

BIRTH MONTH FLOWER PRINTABLES

Let me explain birth month flower printables. For every month of the year, there is a flower that goes with that month. So we took that flower and created a printable and then added the name of the flower and the month on the bottom.

These birth month flower printables look like botanical prints. They are a classic timeless design.

Mom will cherish seeing her baby's birth month flowers and always remember the time you spend making her something special. Now let's get started making a Mother's day gallery wall hanging.

MOTHER'S DAY FLOWER WALL HANGING SUPPLIES

Here is what you will need to make this Mother's day flower wall hanging. All these items can be purchased at your local Dollar Tree and the birth month flower printable comes from Etsy.

Mother's day printable DIY supplies for framed birth month flower prints

Now that you have all your craft supplies gathered let's talk about what makes this a unique Mother's day gift idea.

DIY DOLLAR TREE MOTHER'S DAY GIFT

The first thing to begin making this DIY dollar tree mother's day gift is by printing your birth month flowers.

DOWNLOAD, PRINT AND CUT PRINTABLES

After you select each birth month or buy the whole set download the months you plan to use and then print them to the size of your picture frame on cardstock. This is where your Dollar Tree store items come in. My floating frames are 4 x 6 so I selected the 4 x 6 option in the advanced setting when I went to print them.

On my little picture frames, I didn't want them to go edge to edge so after I printed them the size of my frame I used the glass from my frame and placed it over the image. Then I used a pencil and drew around the edge. Next, I used my paper cutter to cut it but if you only have scissors that work great too.

If you love a homemade paper look try this how to make homemade paper at-home tutorial. This gift idea for mom would look amazing with vintage paper.

For my frames, I decided to have a floating piece of art inside on the glass so I trimmed a little extra off around the edges.

.

HOW TO FRAME FLOATING PRINTABLE ART

Now that you have your art cut to size let me share how I framed these designs where the art is floating in the middle. There are two ways you can do this. First, you can sandwich the piece of art between two pieces of glass or you can place the print on the top of the glass.

If your floating frame comes with a back and only one piece of glass then the latter will work for you but you need to remove the back so that you can see through the glass. But either way, you will need double-sided tape to adhere the print to the glass.

Simply put one small piece of double-sided tape to a piece of glass and attach the printable to the glass of the picture frame. If you have a front piece of glass you can go ahead and set it on top.

Note: After making and hanging this piece I recommend adding double-sided tape to the corners instead. I did notice it sticking out a little around the edges because there is nothing holding it down. If you have a second piece of glass I think you are good with just one piece of double-sided tape.

Then place the glass with print on it inside the frame and press down on the tabs on the back as tight as you can.

HOW TO MAKE A FRAMED COLLAGE WALL HANGING

Now that you have all your printables framed let's create a collage wall hanging. Begin by placing all the frames in a row the distance apart to your liking or you can use my measurement of 1″ from the bottom of one to the top of the other.

Next, turn them over so you can see the back of the frames and then measure from the very top to the very bottom. Take that measurement and add six more inches. If you are using three frames that are 4 x 6 then you should have a measurement of 20″. Then double that number and this is how long your ribbon needs to be cut.

Grab your scissors and cut a piece of ribbon the number you just figured. If you are doing one exactly like mine you will need to cut a 40″ piece of ribbon.

Once you have your ribbon trim a v shape into the ends and run the book ring through the ribbon matching the ribbon ends.

Ribbon for wall hanging printable

Now it is time to attach the ribbon to the back of the frames. First, measure down on your ribbon 3 inches and mark it with a straight pin or something. Remember that your ribbon is folded in half so you are measuring down three inches from the ring where it is folded.

Then measure and mark the center of the top of the back of each frame.

Glue Ribbon to Frames

Get your hot glue gun ready. Next, add a thin line of glue along the back top of the picture frame. Make sure to not put too much glue where you will see it from the front.

Then measure down three inches on the ribbon and place the one piece of ribbon into the glue.

Once that is dry and secure add another thin line of glue and place the other half of the ribbon.

Repeat this step on the top of each frame until you have all the ribbon glued to the frames. Since your frames are already 1″ apart you shouldn't have to measure anymore. Just apply glue and place the ribbon.

Now that you are all finished, let's see the finished product and talk about ideas on where to hang your Mother's Day Dollar Tree craft.

Today I am sharing an easy and inexpensive DIY dollar store spring tablescape. Spring is a great time to entertain and this table setting is perfect for Easter, Mother's day, summer, or spring. This bee-themed table will be the talk of the party.

DIY Dollar store spring bee themed tablescape with chamomile flowers, Dollar Tree gingham buffalo check chargers, white dishes, La Rochere bee glasses, Martha Stewart honey and bee napkins.

This easy DIY dollar store spring tablescape is probably the easiest and cheapest table decorations for family or small party I have come up with yet and it exudes happiness.

Most of this table is hand-crafted and Dollar Tree or dollar store items. I even have a new dollar store to introduce you to. More about that later but recently it came to my attention that many people don't know what a tablescape is so here is my definition of a tablescape.

WHAT IS A TABLESCAPE?

A tablescape is the same thing as table decorations or table settings for dinner, lunch, brunch, or breakfast. It is a table created for friends and family usually around themes like spring, fall, Christmas, and so on.

So now that you know what a tablescape is let's buzz over to this table setting where the design began with a honey bumble bee dinner napkin.

DIY DOLLAR STORE SPRING TABLESCAPE

To begin let's gather some materials. Here is a list of what you need.

What is Popshelf?

You may have noticed the flower jewelry dish by Popshelf and wondered what is Popshelf? Well, it is a new store concept by Dollar General. It brings a high-end look with a low price range. Most items in the store are under $5.00. They carry trendy home decor decorations, beauty supplies, arts and crafts, toys, specialty foods, cleaning supplies, and much more.

I was hooked after visiting the one in Atlanta. Pop Shelf has so many beautiful home decor items and I couldn't wait to share this jewelry dish on this tablescape with you.

HOW TO MAKE BUFFALO CHECK CHARGERS?

Before you get started creating this farmhouse garden-style table let's make the buffalo check chargers.

First sand the charger to rough up the finish. Then wipe it with a clean damp paper towel to remove any grit.

Next, paint one coat of chalk paint, acrylic, or any craft paint. Let that dry and add another coat if needed.

How to chalk paint a Dollar Tree charger

Now take 2″ painters tape and run a piece of tape down the center.

Next place another piece of painter's tape up against the first piece then lay another piece next to it.

How to paint a gingham pattern on a Dollar Tree charger

Remove the middle piece and repeat this step on the other side.

Painted buffalo check on Dollar Tree charger

Press down along the edges with your finger so that paint will not bleed under the tape. Once you tape is secure dry brush the blue-green color.

To dry brush simply dab your paintbrush into the paint. Just a tiny bit on the tip of the paint brush. Then dab the paintbrush on a paper towel or paper plate to remove some of the paint.

DIY Dollar Tree charger buffalo check

Then you lightly brush the paint between the pieces of tape. After you finish remove the tape and let it dry.

DIY Dollar store buffalo check pastel color charger

You can use a blow dryer to make the process go quicker. Once the paint is dry simply repeat what you did but turn the place 90 degrees and start taping and painting again.

Easy do it yourself chalk painted check charger

After you remove the tape and your chargers are good and dry it is time to set this spring bee-themed table setting.

DIY DOLLAR TREE SPRING BEE THEMED TABLE SETTING

Begin by placing the white board down the middle of the table then place all your pastel buffalo check chargers.

DIY dollar store spring tablescape with a garden bee design

Next, add your Dollar Tree white dinner plate and salad plate stacking them one on top of the other.

Easy DIY Dollar store spring garden tablescape

Now grab the adorable light blue honey bee Martha Stewart dinner napkin and place one in the middle of the Dollar Tree white salad plate.

Simple place setting with Martha Steward honey bee napkins DIY

Then sit the floral jewelry dish from Popshelf right in the middle.

DIY honey bee themed tablescape with Popshelf flower jewelry dish

Next, add your silverware. We used gold silverware that we purchased at an antique/thrift store but silver will work on this tablescape too.

DIY table decorations for spring

And last place your La Rochere glasses above the knife on the table. If you can spring for these Le Rochere bee glasses they are the icing on the cake. They are so bee-autiful and they are perfect for many other table settings like my garden party decoration ideas and this Thanksgiving dinner table setting.

EASY SPRING CHAMOMILE FLORAL CENTERPIECE

If you have a dark-colored table adding a white chalk-painted board will brighten up your centerpiece. I have used this white board on many tablescapes. You will find it to come in handy.

First, place your white board centered in the middle of the table. Then add painted clay pots that are wrapped with twine staggered on the white board.

I have direction on how to paint these pots to look old in my french country table setting idea post.

Once they are painted and dried wrap them in twine and place them on your board.

Next place a small mouthwash cup inside or anything that will fit inside that will hold water and put water in the cup.

I like to use filtered water from the fridge. It seems to keep flowers longer.

Next cut the stems on the flowers about 8″ long. I took a handful and cut them all together and then placed them down inside the pot with the cup inside.

Floral arrangement with chamomile flowers

After you finish filling the clay pots with chamomile cut a few other pieces of flowers and drop them around the clay pots as if they have fallen off of the flower arrangement.

Easy DIY spring centerpiece with vintage clay pots and chamomile flowers

I found it to be easier to bring the board and pots into my kitchen by doing the floral arranging. I found these flowers at Trader Joe's but here is a post on the best places to buy flowers if you don't have Trader Joe's.

Now you have a simple centerpiece for your spring bee table setting. Place your board and flower arrangement back in the middle of the table.

DIY spring floral farmhouse style centerpiece

See how easy this spring tablescape is to create and there are so many events and dinners you can create it for. And all ages will love it!!!

So let's take a look at the whole table now that every piece is set.

I almost forget to mention adding pillows to your chairs or bench. This is another detail that makes the bee inspired table decoration look cozy.

CONCLUSION

Now that you have a lovely table set for your family and friends let's talk about a gift for your guests.

One of my favorite things to do is give the top piece of the place setting to guests when they go home so share with your friends and family that they get to take home the Popshelf jewelry dish.

If you have any guys at the party and maybe the flower dish is not their thing then tell them it makes a great gift to give to a loved one.

I mentioned other holidays this DIY dollar tree tablescape is good for and the most obvious is Easter since it is the heart of spring. A cute way to add a touch of Easter is to place grass in the dish and one speckled egg.

Another great idea is for Mother's day coming up. Wouldn't it be fun to celebrate all those women in your life who have played a part in mentoring you? Creating a spring bee table like that will make them feel so special.

I hope this inexpensive table setting has given you the inspiration to create a lovely table this spring.

May Day Basket and Letter to Mom Ideas

We are going to talk about how to make a May Day basket first but if you want ideas for writing a letter to mom scroll on down about halfway.

What is May Day?

April showers have passed and May Day is celebrating spring either on May 1st or the first Monday in May. It is an ancient holiday that is still celebrated in many places.

You've probably heard of the old tradition of the maypole dance, it's a well known part of the May Day tradition. May Day celebrations can vary depending on your location.

When I was in elementary school we would celebrate with the May Day pole which consisted of different colored long ribbons hanging down on all sides. On the first of May, we, the children, would grab a ribbon and start walking around the pole wrapping the ribbon as we go. When we were finished the pole was very pretty.

We also ate delicious cakes and punch and played games. It was such a fun day. The main thing is that we were enjoying the beautiful weather that spring brought. What a fun tradition and wonderful celebration of spring!

How to Make your DIY May Day Basket

I'm so excited to share this DIY May Day Basket instruction. These simple may day baskets are sure to brighten the receiver's day. This easy and beautiful project can be made in about 30 minutes once you have all your supplies.

These surprisingly simple baskets are beautiful and easy to make. Then you can deliver them to the doors of friends and loved ones. These small baskets are a wonderful celebration of the return of spring. Here is a list of supplies.

Supplies

Shop Supplies:

How to Clean a Label off of a Jar

The first thing your DIY May Day basket starts with is a recycled glass jar. If you are using an old jar as I did in this project here are a few tips to help you get the label off.

Begin by soaking the jar in hot water and dawn soap for an hour. Then take a knife and scrape the label off. I found it easier to scrap the label towards the center on one side and then towards the center on the other side.

Next, wash the jar thoroughly and about a 1/3 of water to the jar. You can add more water once the May day basket arrives at its destination but a 1/3 will feed your flowers for now.

.

Next, after you have subscribed to the Life on Summerhill newsletter you will get a link to your inbox and it will take you to my printable library. Then look for this toile pattern and gift tag. Simply download them and print them on regular printer paper.

If your jar is larger you may need to adjust the size of you printable templates, but if your jar is about the size of a jelly jar then you are good to go.

Blue and white toile gift tag free printable.

Cut Toile Design

Next, grab some scissors or a paper cutter and cut around the edge of the toile pattern.

Then cut the gift tag on three sides. Cut up again the flower pattern or stems but leave the left side of the tag with some white space so you can punch some holes there.

Apply Toile Pattern to the Jar

Now it is time to apply lovely patterned paper to the jar. Simply brush the decoupage to the backside of the paper from edge to edge. Then start on one side and smooth the paper around the jar until it meets the other side.

If your paper overlaps take some decoupage to glue them together. Next, apply more decoupage to the top of the toile pattern paper. You can go over onto the glass a tiny bit but for the most part, stay on the paper.

Let it dry for a few hours.

Add Twine and Yarn Bow

Next cut a 36″ piece of twine and yarn. Find the center and start at the back and wrap it around the neck of the jar. Make sure it is under the lip. This will keep the twine and yarn secure so that it doesn't slip up.

Now loop twice to make the first tie. I like to double loop because it helps keep it from sliding apart and makes tying so much easier if you are by yourself. Follow the loop with the traditional bow tying. Whatever you learned in elementary school will do.

I like to make my bows ears long but it is up to you what you think is pretty. It's the little things that are a fun way to give it a personal touch. Your DIY May Day baskets are almost done!

Add the Handle

You might need a seam ripper or something like that to pull the twine and yarn up from the neck. Basically, you will thread the 48″ piece of twine and yarn behind the twine and yarn that is tied in a pretty bow around the neck of the jar.

May day basket with a glass jar wrapped in a toile free printable and white twine and blue yarn

Once you have one side done take the other end of the twine and yarn and thread it under the twine that is tied around the neck of the jar. Once you have it through tie the ends together and lift on the handle.

You may need to adjust the connection with the jar neck yarn and twine until the jar hangs straight down. This is how you'll hang your cute basket from door handles.

Floral Arrangement

Isn't this fun!

Creating something special for someone you love or showing someone you care is so fun. This DIY May Day basket is sure to be a hit.

Let me recommend you hang your jar on a doorknob or hook while you do your flower arranging. I found it to be much easier once I was done doing it this way.

Now it's time to find some May flowers. For your own May baskets, you can choose flowers that reflect the receiver. Maybe that's wildflowers or something more traditional. Simply find three to five flowers and cut the stems so that the flower sits a few inches up from the rim of the jar.

An easy way to determine how much to cut off of the bottom of your flower is to sit your jar at the edge of the table and place the flower next to it with the stem hanging off of the table. Once you get the height you want that is where you will cut.

Then add some greenery around the edges.

If you are arranging flowers on the counter lift the handle up when you put flowers inside the DIY May Day basket so that you can work around the handle. Now add more flowers and greenery. Fresh flowers are a sure sign of spring and all good things to come.

DIY May Day Basket Gift Tag

It is time to add your gift tag. First, you will need to punch one or two holes into the tag. I have a small hole punch that has two holes in it but you can use an ice pick for this also.

Arranging flowers in a May Day Mother's day toile wrapped upcycled salsa jar and adding a free printable gift tag.

Simply punch two holes side by side and thread the twine on one side on the top and up through the other hole. The twine has enough texture that it will hold the gift tag in place.

You can add your own little notes if you like, or keep them anonymous. Your DIY May Day basket is complete! Congratulations on your great May Day baskets.

Store your May Day Basket and Deliver

Before we go on to the letters for Mom's ideas make sure to keep your May Day baskets hanging somewhere with water inside. Now for the fun part!

Once I was ready to deliver the baskets I discovered that they fit perfectly into the cup holder in my van. They may not fit into everyone's cup holder but if you have ones that expand it will work like a charm.

I decided to make my baskets a surprise so I quietly walked up to their doors and hung the basket on the doorknob. I almost got away on both houses but got caught both times. LOL!

The first one was my sister and they were waiting for dinner delivery which was an hour late so she thought I was their meal. And the other one was my niece and she saw my car lights and opened the garage to see who was coming. LOL!

It was fun making these but it was even more exciting delivering them!!! This project with brighten your day and someone else's too. It's a great way to spread a little spring cheer with a colorful basket. You may even want to make your own May Day basket to keep!

Ideas for Writing a Letter for Mom

I used to love writing a letter to Mom when she was alive. Handcrafted, handwritten letters mailed through snail mail are so unique and meaningful.

So for this Mother's day, I want to encourage you to write your mom an old fashion letter. It's the perfect complement to your DIY May Day basket. Here are some ideas to get you started.

There is something magical about getting an old fashion letter in the mail, and what better way to say I love you than crafting a letter for Mom.

How to Make Envelopes

There are so many different kinds of stationery to choose from these days, but creating your own, unique stationery is even more meaningful.

I thought it would be fun to teach you how to make beautiful envelopes and lovely pieces of stationery to go into plain, white envelopes.

HISTORY LETTER IDEA

Below is an envelope I created based on the letters my dad wrote his mom while he was fighting in the war. My father's letters were fashioned with the traditional red and blue designed edges.

This gave me an idea for a letter for Mom.

Start with plain stationery like the one in this photograph below.

Letter for mom retro stationary

Consider decorating your envelope with some red and blue around the edges to send a message from the past.

Retro styles like this one are very trendy right now.

I used sharpies so the color would not run in case they came in contact with water. Then, write inside, starting from your first year of life until now, one thing you remember about your mom or loved about her at that time.

She will love to see what you remember!

This will be an especially special message for your mom. It may even spark conversations about the past, too.  It will be funny to see how your mom remembers the one thing that is vivid in your mind.

HANDMADE LILLY PULITZER CALENDAR ENVELOPES

So, I have many old Lilly Pulitzer calendar planners laying around, and they happen to be very colorful.  I have been trying to figure out something to do with them because I hate to throw them away.

The pages are so beautiful!

So I decided to use one to make an envelope for a happy letter to Mom.

Letter for mom lilly pulitzer envelope

Start by taking apart an envelope that you'd like to use as a template.

Be very careful when taking it apart; you want it to keep its shape.

Then, just turn your calendar planner paper over and trace around the envelope that you took apart.  Last, use a double-sided adhesive roller to glue the pieces together. Look at these lovely bright colors!

Letter for mom lilly pulitzer stationary

For this letter, write down some of your happiest memories.  Use bright colored papers or card stock to write on and, to add even more excitement, fill it with confetti! If given in person, you can even tie it off with a pretty ribbon.

It may be a little messy when Mom opens it, but she will be so pleased that I doubt she will mind. It will be a Mother's Day gift she'll always treasure.

These beautiful handmade envelopes are also great for birthdays, Valentine's day, or any other holiday!

LETTER FOR MOM STATIONERY PRINTABLE

This write-in letter is perfect for any age. It's especially ideal for younger children or teens to fill out.

It is so much fun to read what my children write in these spaces, so I am pretty confident your mom will get a kick out of it, too! Make her special day a little more so.

Garden Party Decoration Ideas

Are you ready to create this special occasion lovely garden tablescape? I cannot wait to walk you through the steps. But before we jump into supplies think about a color theme and pick an outdoor space for your party.

Consider a spot that is level for your table. It will make things more comfortable for friends and family. The outdoor area I used was my back patio. It is just outside my back door and near my kitchen which will make life easier.

Next, since my outdoor table is inspired by rose pattern dishes I knew my color scheme would be pink and green. What is your color theme? Once you have your colour scheme let's grab some supplies and get started.

What Do You Need For an Outdoor Garden Party?

Outdoor Garden Party Decorations

So now that we have all our supplies let's jump right into setting up your table. But first, how do you make a garden party fun?

How Do You Make a Garden Party Fun?

Probably the most important aspect of making this garden party fun is checking the weather forecast. Find a warm day that has no rain. If there is one thing that will dampen your backyard garden party is rain.

Also, if it is a cloudy day with no rain that is even better but if the skies are clear find a shady spot for your table. To warm days can dampen a party too. It will make all the difference if your guests are shaded. However, if you have cool evenings in the forecast simply encourage your guests to dress warm.

Last, plan ahead and plan to have everything ready at least an hour before the guests arrive. A great way to have fun is when your guests arrive let go of anything that is exactly as planned and focus on your friends and family and enjoy their company.

If there is one thing that will make any party fun that is if the hostess is having fun. So enjoy your people.

Farmhouse Dining Table and French Bistro Chairs

Because this dining table is covered you can just about do anything for a table option however, if you are feeling in the mood to make a farmhouse table I have the perfect directions on my website. Or you can use simple picnic tables.

Farmhouse table and french folding bistro chairs on a back patio.

But if you are looking for something much easier consider a folding table or even a piece of wood held up with saw horses as we did at this nurse's graduation party.

Just like the table you have unlimited options for chairs. You can bring every dining chair, break nook table chair, makeup table chair, desk chair, and the list goes on. Or you can use french folding bistro chairs as I show here.

Layered Tablecloth

Now that you have your table in place let's start adding the beautiful tablecloths. I love being creative when planning out a table clothes. For this table, I used a white ruffled sheet. I put the ruffle on the end that people would see the most.

Garden party decoration ideas using white linen tablecloth, pink and white runner

Next, I folded a piece of pastel pink and white striped seersucker fabric to act as a runner down the middle of the table.

If you have a dark table under the table cloth or sheet simply add another sheet under it to get that crisp white look.

Dessert Rose and White Plates

After your table linens are neatly on the table place your main plate which in my case was Franciscan Desert Rose. I picked these dishes because they go great with the garden party decoration look and they belonged to my mom.

Garden party decoration ideas using white linen tablecloth, pink and white runner and desert rose dishes

Once you have your main plates on the table then site a white salad plate in the middle.

Stemless Champagne Flutes and Silverware

Let's start with the silverware. Begin by placing the knife on the right and the spoon next to it. Then place the fork on the left. I like to line up my silverware along with the bottom of the plate making sure the plate is close to the edge of the table.

Garden party decoration ideas using white linen tablecloth, pink and white runner and desert rose dishes with a white salad plate in the middle. Then add silverware.

Next on this garden themed tablescape list are the stemless champagne flutes. I particularly like using the wine glasses because they are narrow and do not take up much room which on this small table space is a premium. Plus clear glasses will look pretty with a cold drink like the lemonade recipe I mention at the end

Garden party decoration ideas using white linen tablecloth, pink and white runner and desert rose dishes with a white salad plate in the middle. Then add champagne glasses

Simply place the glasses just above the knife on the table.

Garden Party Place Setting Idea

Now we are getting to the good part and that is the garden party place setting feel for each guest. I love creating something custom and something that each guest can take home.

For this garden party design, I placed a linen napkin folded in thirds and then folding the top down. I placed the napkin in the center of the plate with the tail handing down over the side of the plate and table.

Garden party decoration ideas using white linen tablecloth, pink and white runner and desert rose dishes with a white salad plate in the middle with a folded linen napkin and a wooden laser cut name of guest.

Then I sat a lovely laser cut name party favors for each guest onto the folded part of the linen napkins. Everyone will have a special something to take home.

Garden Party Centerpiece

This is where decorating a table for a family gets fun! And the best part about this great garden party centerpiece is its simplicity and fresh flowers. It is a good idea to wait just before guest arrive to place the fresh roses on the centerpiece.

This easy to make garden themed centerpiece focal point starts with a flat brim straw hat that has a rim around the edge. Simply place the garden straw hat in the middle of the table. Then take some jasmine vines or any green leaf vine will do and sprinkle the vine around the hat.

Garden party decoration ideas using a straw hat as a centerpiece with fresh green vine around the brim of the hat.

Next cut some roses off from the stem and place them around the hat. There are different varieties of roses you can choose or you can use any kind of fresh flower.

Garden party decoration ideas using a straw hat as a centerpiece with fresh green vine around the brim of the hat and fresh pink roses.

I used some roses from my sister's garden which make this centerpiece even more special because she has always been a mother figure in my life.

Garden party decoration ideas using a straw hat as a centerpiece with fresh green vine around the brim of the hat and fresh pink roses.

And before you know it your garden party table is complete. The best part about this table is that you probably have all the pieces in your home and you don't have to go to the store.

Garden party decoration ideas using a straw hat as a centerpiece with fresh green vine around the brim of the hat and fresh pink roses.

Another fun idea if you have enough roses is to add a rose to each place setting. This really gives it a garden party tablescape feel.

Garden Themed Party Ideas

Okay so now you have the basics for an easy garden party idea so let's think about all the events you can create this secret garden table design around. You can use it for garden parties for adults like bridal showers and birthdays. Or you can use it for a summer sit-down dinner outside or a spring lunch or brunch.

This tablescape would be great for Mother's day, a kids tea party, Valentine's Day, Easter and so much more.

Mothers day tablescape idea outdoors

In my life, I have had many mothers, which is why I couldn't wait to share a Mother's Day table set up idea with you. Because I am the youngest of three sisters, my older siblings, who were teenagers when I was born, seem to have thought they were my moms, too.

So, in addition to my Grandmothers and Sisters, I had a total of five mother figures. Today, only one of those mother figures is left.

MOTHER'S DAY TABLE SET UP IDEA

Mothers day tablescape idea outdoor brunch

This time of year in Florida is a great time to do an outdoor brunch.  The weather is usually pleasant, which makes for the perfect picnic environment. While there are many different ways to celebrate Mother's Day, this is one of my favorite. It's a great way to make a special day fun and festive.

So, check your local forecast and consider taking this party outside.

First of all, you want to think about a theme. For this event, I began creating with some history in mind.  Every mother figure in my life has been raised in Florida, except for one who was raised in Georgia but later raised her children in Florida.

So, I first thought about creating a table design around a Florida theme. It has such a fun, summery vibe with beautiful bright colors. Here is what you will need to create Mother's day table setting idea like mine.

How to create a Mother's day table set up?

Next, you want to gather your supplies. Decorating a table for Mother's day is easy. You can bring out your good china or keep it simple with your everyday dishes. The table decorations can be simple or elaborate. Create a lovely centerpiece then coordinate the place settings to match. Beautiful tablescapes do not need to be complicated. Now let's grab supplies to create this Mother's day table set up.

MOTHER'S DAY FLORIDA THEMED TABLE SETTING

Mothers day tablescape idea garden brunch table decor

When I think of Florida, I think of the ocean, palm trees, and citrus.  I decided I wanted the table to be colorful and happy. This made picking my color scheme easy. Oranges and blue fit the bill. And fresh flowers are a must. Here's how I created my Mothers Day table set up.

TABLECLOTH AND TABLE

Next, I thought about the tablecloth. I am using a square card table. It was too small for a table runner. Instead, I used two long rectangle tablecloths folded in half and placed them in opposite directions so that the table was covered to the ground on each side.

A white tablecloth provides the base. The blue block print tablecloth I purchase years ago but there are lots of other blue block print table cloths on the market.

CHAIRS

If you've gone to all this trouble to create a beautiful table, then why not bring out some of your good chairs?  Here I selected my breakfast table white rush seat chairs. I thought the white rush seat chairs would complement nicely. If you want to dress the chairs up even more, check out my post about creating beautiful May Day baskets and a letter to mom you can hang on the back of each chair.

But you know another seating idea to add that would be fun especially if you have a younger guest.  Adding a hammock or hammock chair swings outside.

Talk about cozy and dreamy!  Here are some that I thought would be perfect with this idea.

TROPICAL CENTERPIECE IDEA

Mothers day tablescape idea centerpiece oranges

Fresh flowers are an inexpensive way but beautiful way to set the mood of your Mother’s Day table setting. You can usually find beautiful fresh flowers at your local grocery store. For the centerpiece, I originally planned something a little more substantial, but when my sister and I put it in place, we realized it was way too much. Your flower arrangements should complement the table, not overwhelm it.

So, my sister went back to the drawing board, or in this case the kitchen, and came out with this tropical flower and orange beauty.

I have to say I loved it!

This brings me to a bit of advice: Whenever you're planning an event, sometimes you have to roll with the punches if you know what I mean. Your Mother's Day table set up is no exception.

Mothers day tablescape idea quote

If something doesn't work, don't throw in the towel! Just keep trying! Some of my best creations have happened because my first ideas weren't right.

The one element I particularly like here is the small satsumas at the bottom of the clear round vase. They provide the perfect pop of color. For the flowers, I tried to go with a tropical look.  These flowers were the closest I could find after looking at several grocery stores. I also added some palm fronds in there to add to the native design.

ORANGE CANDLES

Mothers day tablescape idea orange candle

Here's an old trick, and one that is so easy! Purchase some oranges that are kind of flat on the bottom, then cut the top off enough for the width of a Tealight.

Once you have an opening, take a small, sharp knife and cut straight down and around inside.  Then scoop out the pulp and set your light inside.

Sometimes I have to scoop a little here and there until it fits down inside just the way I like it.

I have added a video on how to make an orange candle in this post or you can go to my YouTube channel and watch the orange candle DIY there too. Such a fun twist on a traditional candle stick holder. It will add a wonderful pop of color to your Mother's Day table set up.

HOW TO MAKE PAPER PLACEMATS

Mothers day tablescape idea place setting with old photo

There is so much to share about these Mother's day table settings! So, let's start from the bottom up and give credit where credit is due.

The paper placemats are an idea all over Pinterest. I love that this idea does double duty of both the placemat and name place card. I purchased banner paper and cut it to fit the size I wanted.  Then, I used a chalk pen to draw the lines, write the name, and cut little designs in the corners. This is the kind of personalized touch that makes your Mother's Day tablescape so special.

I also decided to let the paper mat fall down the side of the table a little just to add another creative feature to my Mother's Day table set up.

MOTHER'S DAY TABLE SET UP

CHINA

Next, I decided to use my sister's china.  This lovely floral china was a perfect fit for the theme. The blue complemented the vibrant orange color of my inspiration. I thought the combination made a beautiful table setting. But do not feel you have to use china; any dinnerware will work like these plates I found that look similar.

SILVERWARE

Now if you love this silverware it is called Pickard Festival. Alternatively, if that is a little out of your budget then try these similar ones by Oneida.

LINEN NAPKIN

Next, a simple white cloth linen napkin rests on the plate with an orange leaf, a satsuma, and a fond memory of your Mom on top in the form of an old photo. I love how the orange provides a fun pop of color in contrast to the white linen. These are the touches that will make your Mother's Day table set up exceptional.

OLD PHOTOS

Mothers day tablescape idea old photo

I love old photos and this one warms my heart! Above all, I think this might be the best part. It's truly the star of the show. Adding old photos to each place setting made it special.  The picture above is my mom and me, and the one below is my sister holding her baby and me. It's the perfect and easy way to let the mothers in your life know how special they are.

What fun memories are sitting on this lovely table! Mother’s Day table decorations can be easy and still beautiful. Now your Mother's Day table set up is complete.

RECIPE IDEAS

Now that you have the perfect plan for the Mother's day tablescape idea, it's time to come up with a menu. A special occasion like Mother's Day deserves an extra special menu.

Since I usually don't write about food, I went to some pretty great cooks for some suggestions. I have to say that reading their recipes made me hungry. These recipes will create a beautiful brunch for the amazing mothers in your life.

They look so beautiful and appetizing! I think these recipes are perfect for your Mother's day brunch.
