Summertime is the perfect time for a party and what could be more fun than an ice cream social? Here are some ideas to make your next gathering a hit! From decorations to desserts, we’ve got you covered. Let the good times roll!!

Ice cream social ideas

When hot summer days come and the kids are out of school we are all looking for fun things to do. These old-fashioned ice cream social ideas are very simple and everyone will have a great time when planning and throwing the ice cream social.

During the month of June, my husband and I traveled to Missouri to visit our friends Mel, Dan, and family on the farm. It just happened to be hay season so we helped them bring in the hay at night and to celebrate, the next day, Mel and I created an old-fashioned ice cream social event.

We searched the farm, close to the house, for a picturesque spot to set up a small buffet, table, bench, and chairs. The perfect area just happened to be right near a beautiful tree filled with bees. But far enough away that we didn't bother each other.

Now that the furniture is in place I will walk you through each step of decorating an ice cream social along with beautiful ideas. It is truly simple and Mel has all the delicious ice cream recipes on her site if you want to go all-out homemade.

What is an Ice Cream Social?

Ice cream socials have a history in North America that dates back to the 18th century. The first ice cream social recorded was in 1744 in Maryland when the governor served ice cream for a dinner party. In 1802, Thomas Jefferson hosted an ice cream social at the White House.

As ice cream became more readily available in the 1800s, ice cream socials were often held by organizations such as churches and schools. In the 1860s, “ice cream gardens” became popular in society, and churches often fashioned events after them. With the availability and popularity of ice cream today, ice cream socials are very popular throughout the country.

Fun fact! The largest ice cream social in the world was held on January 30, 2019 in Italy.

Ice Cream Social Ideas

Now let's get this party started by planning your ice cream social decor. First, think about your furniture. You can use any outdoor furniture you already have or use folding chairs and tables. But if you have extra help and strong muscles place pretty furniture from inside your home outside. We decided on vintage, old-fashioned furniture.

Now let's start with a supply list.

Gather all your supplies ahead of time and place them in baskets. You might find your baskets useful for decorations, too.

Shop the post:

Now that we have all the supplies and all the furniture is in place, let's start setting up the buffet with goodies. Here is a step-by-step guide.

Ice Cream Social Buffet

When planning the buffet table, think of placing the food in order by what they put on first and then next. In other words place the glasses, napkins, and spoons on one end and then the ice cream and topping next. Our buffet was pretty small so to keep it simple I placed the dry toppings on the table.

First, place your runner on the buffet and then the vase or enamel milk pitcher in one corner. And then the wooden bowl filled with napkins, wooden spoons and straws.

Ice cream social buffet

This will make grabbing all the utensils easy and fresh flowers will look so pretty on the buffet.

We were fortune that Mel's farm is full of flowers out in the fields. It was so pretty!! So we snipped fresh flowers for the milk pitcher. The basket was an easy way to transport our flowers.

Picking flowers for an ice cream social

But you can use artificial flowers or fresh flowers from the grocery store. Do what is simple for you and don't stress about this part. It would also be pretty just having the milk pitcher and no flowers.

Wild flowers for an ice cream social party

Next on the buffet are the ice cream sundae glasses or whatever you plan to hold the ice cream.

Ice cream sundae glasses

If you plan for each person to serve their own ice cream, you can place the ice cream after your glasses, but we had one person serve the ice cream.

Because of that, we didn't place the cream on the buffet. Instead, the ice cream churn sat on the basket on the ground.

Next, if you are serving ice cream cones, a great way to set them on the buffet is inside a glass jar.

Your Ice Cream Social Buffet is Almost Complete

If you have a marble cutting board, set it on the buffet with ice cream sauces or smaller ice cream bowls. We ended up using the mason jars we placed all the sauces in before we came outside. This is also a great place for whipped cream, fresh fruit, or maraschino cherries.

Sauce jars for an ice cream social and a sign on chalkboard

And don't forget a cute ice cream social sign. It is the little details that make all the difference.

Last, place spoons in or near the sauces and your old-fashioned ice cream buffet is set.

Ice Cream Social Tables and Chairs

If you want to provide seating as we did then add tables and chairs. We brought Mel's beautiful handmade farmhouse table outside and placed my grandma “Ranny's” wedding ring quilt on the top as a tablecloth.

Old fashioned quilt used as a table cloth for an ice cream social

You can use anything on this table. Even go without a tablecloth if you prefer. We thought it would be fun, colorful, and give that old-fashioned look so we went with an old quilt.

After you place a quilt on the table add a white table runner and then a piece of wood painted and distressed with chalk paint.

Layering linens and centerpieces on a dining table is a great way to add character and interest. But again, you don't have to add these things. I mainly used what I had laying around.

Now for a Delicious Centerpiece

Last, place your dough bowl filled with dry toppings on top. Talk about a delicious goodness centerpiece. This ice cream social centerpiece is pretty and useful all wrapped in one. If you don't have enough room on your dining table, you can always set up a separate toppings bar.

Finishing Touches

I almost forgot. If you have another basket you can set it on the side of the table on the ground with more flowers. We actually used artificial flowers in this basket. These dogwood flowers are so handy. I used them when decorating our mantel for spring.

Ice cream social ideas using old fashioned vintage decor

Again, it is the little details that make your decor so special.

Okay, now everything is set and ready. Now for the fun part! It is time to party and celebrate bringing in the hay.

Ice Cream Social Party Final Thoughts

We had such a good time celebrating. All the party guests got creative making their own sundae. I love this one with an ice cream cone on top. What a fun idea!

Ice cream sundae with cone on top

Jacob, Mel's son, served all the homemade ice cream and then everyone started creating their ice cream art.

Serving ice cream for an ice cream social

Everyone loved building their own ice cream sundaes with their favorite toppings. It was so much fun! Look how fun this one is with an Oreo, rainbow sprinkles, marshmallows, and a straw. I think this one has all the dry topping on it. LOL!

Here is another delicious sundae someone made.

Even Chuck their dog got in on the fun. He loves ice cream!!

Serving a dog ice cream at an ice cream social

I would say the most important thing is that everyone enjoyed the fun. Especially the little ones. They thought it was a great party.

Ice cream social party decor ideas

The best thing is that pretty much everything you will need is set so now you can relax and enjoy the party too. I do have one last thought. Consider adding a galvanized tub beside the buffet with bottled water on ice. It's a great idea if anyone gets thirsty.

You can also add coca-cola in case they want to make a coke float. We had coke floats at our old-fashioned patriotic party.

Homemade Ice Cream Recipes

Now that you have an idea for decorations, it is time for some old-fashioned ice cream recipes. Mel has you covered there with her homemade ice cream recipes. Here are a few of our favorites that will bring smiles when tasted.

She has more ice cream recipes and treats on her site. You're sure to find your favorite ice cream recipe. Go check her out at Adventures of Mel.

Now it is your turn. Are you decorating for an ice cream social? Let me know in the comments and ask any questions.

I hope this post has been helpful, encouraging, and inspirational. This old-fashioned ice cream social is simple but you can change the party theme for other ideas. By the way – National Ice Cream Day is July 17 if you need a reason to organize your own ice cream social!

Happy Decorating!

Today let's talk about how to dye Easter eggs naturally using vegetables, fruit, and spices. This is a chemical-free, homemade way to dye your hard-boiled eggs using natural ingredients like cabbage and blueberries to name a few.

How to dye Easter eggs naturally

If you have been around me very long you know I love anything homemade. For years I have wanted to try my hand at dying eggs from natural ingredients like fruit and vegetables rather than using chemical dyes. So this year was the year I decided to teach myself how to dye Easter eggs naturally.

After a week of testing out different foods to make different natural dye colors, making three trips to the store, and spending a week in the kitchen, I finally found the best way to dye eggs naturally with everyday ingredients and am so happy with my beautiful easter eggs in all different colors.

I am going to be honest here — there are many many websites that have recipes on how to dye eggs the natural way and I am not sure where they got their information. I tried to follow many but in some instances, the eggs shells got eaten up or the color wasn't that pretty.

By the time I finished making the best naturally dyed Easter eggs, I felt like I had been a scientist in my own laboratory, aka kitchen. The methods I use can create beautiful light colors to lovely vibrant colors. So here is my best advice on how to dye Easter eggs using all-natural ingredients and what inspired me to dye Easter eggs to start with.

Dye Easter Eggs Naturally

To begin allow yourself several days to dye hard-boiled eggs with food and spices. This recipe allows you to dye two eggs in each color at a time using a wide mouth Ball Mason jar that holds two cups of juice but if you plan to make many natural color Easter eggs then I would double or maybe triple this recipe.

Here is an example of a larger glass container I used with a snap-down lid. This is a great larger jar option for your natural dyes.

A natural way to dye eggs with blueberries

Supplies to Dye Easter Eggs Naturally

  • White eggs (I found white to make the prettiest colors)
  • Half Red/Purple cabbage (beautiful blue eggs)
  • 1 cup Blueberries (blue eggs)
  • 3 large Beets (pink eggs)
  • Tumeric (yellow eggs)
  • White vinegar
  • Pots to boil fruit, vegetables, and spices
  • Strainer
  • Glass jars (I used wide mouth mason jars but if you plan to make a lot of eggs consider bigger glass jars)
  • Funnel (this will provide an easy way to pour the liquid into the jars)
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels

Best Hard Boiled Eggs to Dye Naturally

Once you have all your supplies begin making your hard-boiled eggs. I tried three different ways of boiling the eggs — the normal boiling in water, in an air-fryer, and steaming the eggs.

I found if you steam the eggs you get a more smooth look to your colored eggs. If you use the air-fryer you get a fun speckled look and normal boiling in water the color isn't as even. Now that I have the art of dying eggs naturally I will be steaming my eggs in the future.

Also, I did try dying brown eggs naturally and if you love darker colors then you may love this method. I will show a few as we go through this recipe. But for the best color results of your natural egg dyes use white eggs.

Natural Red Dye for Easter Eggs

For some reason, this one gave me the most trouble, and a funny story. I tried many different methods but the funniest was dying eggs in pickled beet juice.

I placed the eggs in the strained liquid and checked back after 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and so on. Each time I pulled it out and found the most beautiful pink color but when I rinsed it the color washed off and it was almost white.

Finally, I left it in overnight, and the next day the egg shell felt like it was brittle. After letting it dry the egg shriveled up so I give pickled beet juice a thumbs down. LOL!

Now using the pickled beet juice still made pretty pale pink eggs but if you want a deeper color then try this beets dye recipe.

Easter eggs dyed with beets

Pink Naturally Dyed Eggs Recipe – Beets

Cut your beets into small pieces. I removed the peeling on the outside.

Place 3 cups of water in a pot to boil and add the cut beets. Let it boil for 15 to 20 minutes.

Remove the beets from the water and strain the beet juice into a glass jar. I used wide-mouth mason jars which hold 2 cups of juice. Fill about 3/4 full so that when you drop the egg into the jar the liquid doesn't run over the edges.

Next, let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

Once the juice has cooled add vinegar. I added 4 teaspoons of vinegar to my roughly two cups of juice.

Now stir the mixture with a metal spoon. Do not use wood or it will dye the wood. Now add your eggs.

To get beautifully dyed pink rose-colored eggs leave them in the dye bath for 2.5 hours. Here is another tip. The color came out stronger when I left the beet dye in the fridge overnight and then added boiled eggs to the dye the next day.

Look at the beautiful various shades achieved just by varying the soaking time. Something about letting the dye sit up for a while made it more concentrated.

Natural Yellow Dye for Easter Eggs

This was by far the easiest color to dye and the quickest. It takes overall the least amount of time to dye a yellow egg naturally.

How to dye Easter eggs yellow naturally using Turmeric

Yellow Naturally Dyed Eggs Recipe – Turmeric

Place 3 cups of water in a pot to boil and add the turmeric. Let it boil for 15 to 20 minutes.

Strain the turmeric juice into a glass jar about 3/4 full. I used wide mouth mason jars which hold approximately 2 cups of juice. Then let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

Once the juice has cooled add vinegar. I added 4 teaspoons of vinegar to my two cups of juice. Now stir the mixture with a metal spoon. Now add your eggs.

For a pale yellow egg leave it in the dye for 5 minutes. Set your timer for 5 minutes each time to get the depth of color you want.

Natural Blue Dye for Easter Eggs

Another easy natural dye to make. Blueberries are quick to dye and make such a beautiful color. This takes longer than the turmeric but much less time than beets and cabbage.

Blue Naturally Dyed Eggs Recipe – Blueberries

Place 3 cups of water in a pot to boil and add the blueberries. Let it boil for 15 to 20 minutes.

Remove the blueberries and then strain the blueberry juice into a glass jar. Then let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

Once the juice has cooled add vinegar. I added 4 teaspoons of vinegar to my two cups of juice. Now stir with a metal spoon. Now add your eggs.

For a light blue color leave it in the dye for 15 minutes. Set your timer for 5 minutes increments after that until you get the shade of blue you want.

Natural Blue-Green Dye for Easter Eggs

Here is another easy natural dye to make and I was surprised that red/purple cabbage makes a blue-green color. This takes hours to soak and comes out so pretty.

How to dye Easter eggs with cabbage

Blue-Green Naturally Dyed Eggs Recipe – Red/Purple Cabbage

Place 3 cups of water in a pot to boil and add sliced cabbage. Let it boil for 15 to 20 minutes.

Remove the cabbage and then strain the cabbage juice into a glass jar. Then let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

Once the juice has cooled add vinegar. I added 4 teaspoons of vinegar to my two cups of juice. Now stir with a metal spoon. Now add your eggs.

For a bright blue color set your timer for 4.5 hours.

Natural Green Dye for Easter Eggs

After I finished dying the other colors I used the blueberry and turmeric dyes to make green color. This was very simple to do and within an hour I had beautiful green Easter eggs.

How to dye Easter eggs naturally by mixing Turmeric and Blueberries

Green Naturally Dyed Eggs Recipe – Blueberry and Turmeric

  • 3/4 cup blueberry dye
  • 3/4 cup turmeric dye

Add the blueberry and turmeric dye to a mason jar and then stir together. Next, add your eggs.

For a beautiful light green egg set your timer for 45 minutes. If you want darker green keep them in the dye and check on them every 15 minutes until you get the ton you want.

Natural Orange Dye for Easter Eggs

For my project I stuck with my favorite colors but if you want to make naturally dyed orange Easter eggs simply follow one of my other recipes but boil the brown-colored egg peelings. From what I can tell this is another easy dye to make.

Best Tips for Dying Easter Eggs Naturally

Here are some tips to help you make your egg dying experience even more positive.

  • When you add the vinegar remember that this juice will DYE ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Make sure to wear an apron that you don't mind it getting dyed on. And cover your work area with something like cardboard or a cutting board that you don't mind getting dyed. Also, if children will be helping dye eggs keep paper towels handy so you can wipe up the spills right away.
  • Make sure to use heat-safe glass containers for your juice. Even this natural dye might leave color in your jars at the bottom.
  • When leaving your eggs in the liquid set your timer so you don't forget. It makes keeping track of the time so much easier and helps ensure you achieve the desired color. Whether you prefer muted colors or vibrant colors, you're sure to achieve it with the options provided.
  • Make your dye baths one day and then dye the eggs another day. The dye will work much better the second day after it has had time to sit. It also makes the process more enjoyable because it won't take up as much of your day.
  • Every egg is going to come out looking different. The variety of different shades is the beauty of dying Easter eggs with natural ingredients. You will notice in my stack that some are smooth looking and some are speckled. If you want a smoother look steam your eggs, for a speckled dyed egg put them in an air fryer.
  • And when you are finished put lids on the jars and you can use the natural dye for other projects later like dying fabric. This is why I used the wide mouth Ball Mason jars with lids and larger jars with snap-down lids so that I could store them in my fridge for later.
Pastel colored dyed eggs using fruit, vegetables and spices

Now, remember me mentioning what inspired me to do this project? Well, there are three reasons.

Why Did We Dye our Easter Eggs With Natural Ingredients

First, we have been trying to live more naturally with our foods for a while so I wanted to dye eggs using farm-to-table ingredients rather than artificial dyes.

Second I wanted to have a pretty naturally dyed egg option to decorate a tablescape and give you an idea for your Easter Sunday lunch.

And last, I had some adorable visitors come over which is what inspired me to dye these eggs to start with.

Paradise Found Farms – Poultry Farm

Meet Snow and the baby chicks from Paradise Found Farms.

Aren't they adorable!

Baby chicks inside a house with flowers and baskets

With spring here and Easter coming fast I thought some photos of baby chicks would brighten your day but when Kris at Paradise Found Farms suggested she bring a chicken I would have never guessed that I would become so fond of a chicken.

I mean really! Look how beautifully she posed for the camera. LOL!

Chicken inside a house

We had a blast taking pictures of Kris and Kellys' chicks. When we first started talking about bringing them to my home, so I could photograph them, I thought wouldn't it be fun to dye some eggs to go along with the photos. And that is where it all started with this post.

My wheels started turning as I thought about an idea for your Easter table with beautiful natural dyed Easter eggs.

Consider using these naturally dyed eggs as a place setting decoration for Easter. It's a great way to bring a touch of color to your tablescape. You can easily place a small handmade clay bowl on each salad plate and then place grass and these eggs on top.

Naturally dyed Easter egg table decorations

And I have many spring tablescapes you can try like this dollar store spring tablescape and this garden party table.

And keep an eye out on my YouTube because I will be sharing about the day Snow the chicken and her chicks came to visit.

I hope you have been inspired to dye Easter eggs naturally. It is much better for you and your family plus they make such pretty colored eggs.

Comment if you prefer naturally dyed eggs or a store-bought kit and good luck on your Easter egg dye adventure. Feel free to ask me any questions if you plan to dye eggs naturally. I would love to hear how your own natural Easter egg dyes turned out. Have a wonderful Easter!

Happy Decorating!

This spring and summer consider having a vintage tea party picnic outside or inside. It's an easy event to plan for kids or adults and can include typical elements like tea sets, linens, and picnic baskets.

Vintage tea party picnic

During spring my daughter Savanna and I went to visit my great nieces to have a vintage tea party picnic. We gathered my Grandma Annis's tea set into an old picnic basket I found thrifting along with other nostalgic items and went out to play.

It was the perfect day except for a chance of rain. While making the picnic area it started to sprinkle and I thought this is it — we will have to pack up. But as soon as it started the rain stopped and we were able to have a sweet afternoon tea party.

Vintage Tea Party for Kids and Adults

When my daughters were growing up I believed you should get out your fancy china when serving dinner or having a party. If something breaks it is not the end of the world, I would always tell myself.

Today I am glad we did that. Vintage china should be used and loved. I have a few tea cups that have chips in them or broken lids, like my teapot, but I have so many wonderful memories of playing with my daughters.

Here is a list of what you will need to throw an old-fashioned tea party with your friends, family, and kids. This tea party is perfect for all ages.

Supplies for a Tea Party Picnic:

  • Vintage tea set (you can find them in thrift stores or online)
  • Blanket
  • Tablecloth
  • Picnic basket
  • Tray
  • Cake stand
  • Napkins
  • Small bunny decoration or anything cute that is small enough for a tray

Now that you have all your supplies, let's look for a level spot in your backyard or at the park for your picnic. We chose a field close to my niece's house and nestled our picnic next to this gorgeous tree. It was the perfect charming spot.

Shop these tea sets:

Tea Party Picnic Blankets

The first thing you want to place on the ground is a blanket but before you place your covering on the grass make sure there are no ants or anything sharp where you are setting up. Once you have a good spot picked out lay your blanket down.

I love layering blankets when picnicking. It makes everything look pretty and makes sitting on the ground softer. After we placed the blanket on the ground we laid the block print tablecloth, that we used in our southern bridal shower table, on a diagonal and then a small tea table linen over that.

Layered tea party picnic blankets and tablescloths

This tea table linen is an extra element we couldn't leave out because my husbands' mother, Ann, embroidered it years ago. It is another element to this vintage tea party that makes it more nostalgic with a gorgeous vintage look.

Picnic Basket and Tray Decor for Tea

Next, let's use the picnic basket and tray you used to carry all your tea party goodies in as serving pieces or makeshift tables. Depending on the number of people coming to the tea party will depend on where you place them.

Since we only have four of us celebrating tea together I chose to place the old strawberry picking tray on one corner with the basket next to it. Now let's start placing all the treats and the tea set.

Tea Party Food Tray Decor

If you have been around me very long then you know I spend way more time on decor than I do making food so this girl likes to go the easy route when it comes to food. This means I am going to share my easy tea party food recommendation and a cute way to style it on your tray.

First, place a cake stand on one side and pick up a tiny cake from the grocery store. Then shop around for macarons. You can find them in the freezer section at some grocery stores or contact your local bakeries to see if anyone makes them.

Decorating for a tea party picnic with cake stand on a tray

I found these delicious macarons at a local baker called Bakeology and they were amazing little works of art. They also make them gluten and dairy free upon request which was a win-win.

So place your small cake on the plate along with the macarons. These decadent treats looked so pretty and dainty!

Tea party cake and macrons

Now add some flowers to your tray. We chose baby's breath because the petals are dainty just like this tea party and the white color would match any decorations. Simply place a clear jar with one batch of flowers from your local grocery store onto the tray.

Next place finger sandwiches on a white napkin along with other store-bought goodies like these waffle cookies. Our tea sandwiches were simple peanut butter and jelly but there are endless options.

Some favorites are cucumber sandwiches and crab sandwiches. Finish the look with a cute gold bunny or anything that has sweet and precious written all over it.

Adding cute decorations like gold bunnies to your tea party decor

I like to place all the food in one location and then the drinks in another. Also, make those napkins handy for the finger foods so I placed the napkins on the tray too.

Setting Up Your Vintage Tea Set

Now let's talk about where to set up the tea set. The perfect spot is the picnic basket. If you have a tray you can add it here too but we forgot to bring one so we used the top of the basket to hold the teapot, cream, and sugar dishes.

Vintage dogwood pattern tea set

Remember me saying earlier that my girls used to play with this tea set? You may notice here that we don't have a lid to the teapot. So glad my grown daughter, who probably is the one who broke the top, is now enjoying the tea set with her little cousins.

Well, guess what? You have everything set for the tea party so let's talk about the rest of the day.

Time to Enjoy your Tea Party

This tea party was a simple afternoon tea outdoors with just us and the little girls. But you can make this a larger tea party by adding more blankets and setting up everything on a table somewhere close.

Tea party picnic with kids

We sat our plates on the blanket and let the girls gather what treats they wanted while Savanna poured tea. We knew the girls love good old fashioned cold sweet tea so we simply poured that into the tea pot. You can make your choice of tea based on your and your guest's preferences but there is no rule that says it needs to be hot tea.

Decorating for a tea party picnic

They loved every minute of it and we had to fill the tea pitcher up several times. And they looked adorable holding their vintage teacup.

Our vintage tea party was a wonderful after school activity. The perfect opportunity to have fun and pass on a wonderful tradition.

Checking the teapot to see if it has any more time

The girls dressed up in white eyelet dresses we found at Walmart which can be used easily for Easter too.

Conclusion

It was such a pretty little tea party. The sun was behind the clouds and the temperature was just right. Our bellies were full and we were talking about packing up when all of a sudden we felt a few sprinkles of rain. Jumping to our feet, we started packing everything up when the rain started coming down.

We couldn't believe that the rain held off just enough for us to enjoy a short little outdoor picnic. We left in a frenzy, laughing in disbelief that it didn't rain while we were enjoying our afternoon tea. It made our perfect vintage tea party even more special. Here is another moment I want to make a core memory.

Vintage tea party decorating ideas

So now it is your turn. Shop your home or family members if they don't mind and put together an easy outdoor tea party picnic for your kids or friends. In today's world doing special things for others is so needed. And it will make you feel good too when you plan something for others that is also simple and seems like you spent a lot of time and money.

Vintage tea parties are the perfect chance to slow down and a great way to reconnect. The perfect tea party is the one everyone has fun at!

Let me know in the comments if you plan to have a tea party picnic with your friends or family. They are also a great option for a baby shower, Mother's day, birthdays or Valentine's Day. Let's create a vintage farmhouse Christmas table for a fun friends and family dinner this holiday season. This simple DIY incorporated antique style in an elegant rustic country warm feeling.

vintage farmhouse Christmas table decorations

Every Christmas we sit down for a holiday feast in our dining room and in front of the same nativity centerpiece but this year I wanted something different that incorporates a vintage farmhouse Christmas table vibe.

While shopping in an antique store I came across this old rustic red toolbox and it reminded me of Santa. I could imagine St. Nicholas grabbing his worn-out toolbox to take on his sleigh on Christmas night. So I thought how fun would this be to incorporate it as a centerpiece. And that is how this table began.

DIY Vintage Farmhouse Christmas Table

When starting any project I always recommend beginning by collecting all your supplies. There is nothing worse than starting your DIY and then realizing you have to run to the store. So let's begin with these supplies.

Shop Supplies:

How Do You Decorate a Christmas Table

Decorating your Christmas dining table or kitchen table is just like decorating your other holiday tables. But depending on your family's traditions you may have certain things you do every year. There is really no one specific thing you have to do but here is a list of the traditional Christmas table decorating steps.

First, add a tablecloth and or runner. You don't have to have a table covering but it makes the table a little fancier. If you don't have either you can use a clean blanket or bedsheet.

Next, add a centerpiece to the table. Many families use an advent wreath as a centerpiece and light the last candle on Christmas day. Then add your place settings, which are optional, placemats or charger, then dinner plate and other plates depending on what you are serving. Last silverware and glasses.

See how simple a Christmas dinner table is to create.

Farmhouse Christmas Table Centerpiece

Centerpieces can be fun, fancy, elegant, rustic, whimsical — I think you get the picture. One year I came up with Christmas table decor ideas that kids would love with a whimsical Christmas tree centerpiece using bottle brush trees. But this centerpiece is more farmhouse with a hint of rustic. This centerpiece, like most others, set the stage for the whole table.

Now that you have all your holiday table decorations let's begin with this vintage farmhouse Christmas centerpiece. First, place a natural colored tablecloth on the table. This can be linen, dropcloth material, cotton, or anything that is a natural fiber.

This ruffled drop cloth table runner I made years ago. It has a worn and weathered appearance which goes nicely with the rest of this rustic elegant Christmas table. However, I came across an inexpensive one and linked it to the supply list. It was so good until I decided to order one myself.

Next, sit your rustic wood toolbox or vintage treasures, I forgot to mention in the supply list you can use a rustic box too. Place in the center of the table on the middle of the runner and then fill it with a natural element like this mistletoe garland.

Start on one end of the table and let some of the mistletoe trails down onto the table from the toolbox. Then place it inside the toolbox and trail it down on the other side of the table on the runner.

This mistletoe is flocked with a dusting of snow. The flocking gives it a white Christmas feeling.

Once you have the mistletoe garland set do the same thing with the bells and the lights. This toolbox is the perfect Christmas farmhouse decor piece. It looks like it came right out of Santa's barn.

MIstletoe, bells and lights for a Christmas centerpiece

Country Christmas Place Setting

For the table settings let's make it more personal to each guest. I love a place setting centerpiece that is a gift or something the guests can use. For this Christmas plate setting, we have both.

First place a charger that you paint with white paint. If you noticed my note in the supply list go ahead and paint your chargers the day before so they will be good and dry. However, if you didn't apply the paint and dry them with a blow dryer. After about 30 minutes they should be good to go.

Now place the charger in front of each chair.

Then place the plate, flour sake napkin, and ribbon.

Dollar Tree white plate on a farmhouse Christmas tablescape

I cut my ribbon straight on one side and then angle on the other. Then I used my fingers or a knife and pulled on the ends to fray it.

Next, sit your silverware on the table. The fork goes on the left and the knife and spoons on the right. Pull the silverware towards the edge of the table. It should line up with the bottom of the plate.

Christmas tablescape in rustic farmhouse style

Then place a wine glass to the top left between 9 and 12 o'clock and then nestle the salt dough ornament next to the wine glass base with the string sitting on the foot of the glass.

Last, place about 7 cranberries and a short sprig of rosemary in the glass. You will add cold water just before guests will arrive. This little detail makes your table even more special. Your guests will love all these Christmas decorations!

Wine glass filled with cranberries and rosemary as a place setting centerpiece

The table is ready all we need now are a few finishing touches.

Vintage Christmas Table Decorations

Whenever I create a table I like to stand back and ask myself are there any finishing touches I can add. For example, when I did my Hygge Thanksgiving table years ago I added pillows to the seating. It is those little touches that make the tablescape so warm and cozy.

So for this table, I added a fur rug to the bench. It looks so cozy and I love how comfy it makes sitting on the bench.

It makes all the difference when you add little details like this or other little vintage pieces. You can add cozy throws here too. Can you believe your holiday table is all finished? It is so easy to make once you have all the supplies.

Conclusion

Now that you have your table ready here are a few last tidbits to help you look polished, relaxed, and ready for guests.

Create this table the day before. You could even create it several days before. Ask my family how many times we get to eat at another table or in the living room because the table is set for a holiday feast. LOL!

Also, set an alarm to remind you to turn on music, Christmas lights and put water in the glasses. If you have an Alexa or Google Home you can hide it away in the room and set it to a Christmas station beforehand so it is ready to go to.

Last, if you have any food you can prepare the day before I would do that also. Again, make your life easier on the day of the event.

Here are a few last photos of the whole table. After you look at the table keep reading for some mouth-watering recipes with this Santa-inspired vintage Christmas table. If you like a vintage vibe to your Christmas celebration, check out blue Christmas decorations ideas with hints of vintage Victorian.

Now that I have added my secrets to planning a party where it looks easy I want to share two of my favorite recipes sites for the most scrumptious food for your family get-together. First look at all of Mel's recipes at Adventures of Mel. She has a whole Christmas recipe section dedicated to her mom and grandma's recipes. You know if they were mom and grandma's then they have to be good.

And then there is my friend Kelly who also makes savory delicious meals. You can find her on Eatpicks where she also has a Christmas recipe category. She has Italian blood running through her vein so need I say more? You will have so much fun planning your dinner with her recipes and Mels.

I hope your holiday breakfast, lunch, brunch, or dinner turns out amazing. And I hope this table sets the perfect ambiance for your Christmas season party. Merry Christmas, have fun, and enjoy your event!

These DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations are so easy to make and will wow your guests. I will walk you through how to make this awesome vintage-inspired jack-o'lantern centerpiece and picnic table setting. Before you know it you will have a tablescape set for a memorable All Hallows Eve.

DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations

After making the Jack family, the DIY dollar store painted jack o lanterns, my wheels started turning so I created these easy DIY outdoor Halloween party table decorations. But then I got to thinking how cute and spooky would this table be if we moved it into the woods.

Well, I packed up the dishes and moved the Jack family into those creepy woods, and created the Halloween table again. You should have seen them all bobbing their head on my radio flyer wagon. LOL!

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

DIY Outdoor Halloween Party Table Decorations

Let's get started going step by step on how to make this Halloween table using a white-painted luminary Jack-o-lantern centerpiece. Use my list of supplies to guide you through things you have at home first. Once you have marked off your list of what you already have I will make suggestions on where to find the other pieces.

Outdoor Halloween Party Supplies List

I want to recommend collecting all your supplies first before moving the table outside. Also, practice making the table inside first. This will make putting it together outside so much easier.

Outdoor Table and Chairs

To start let's set up your table. If you are planning your party in the woods walk around and an outdoor space that is level. You don't have to do the woods as we did. You can set it up in your backyard, front yard, deck, or porch. Then carry your table out and place it where you want it.

I used a level to determine if my table was level but you don't have to do this. If your table is leaning too much in one direction using a block of wood, brick, rock, or anything that will level it out and make it sturdy.

Next, if you want to make your table larger as we did simply place a piece of plywood on top. I keep this piece of plywood on my work table in the garage. I have come in handy to create many tables like our large nurse graduation party ideas table we created inside.

DIY Outdoor Halloween party table idea

Now you will need chairs. I have four outdoor folding french bistro chairs I used on the sides and then two of my dining table chairs on the ends. I think any chairs would work for this table — black, white, indoor, or outdoor.

White Halloween Table Covering

Next, simply toss something white over the table. You can use an old white sheet, curtain, blanket, or tablecloth. The main thing is to use something white.

White tablecloth for an outdoor Halloween jack o lantern tablescape

Then lay a piece of wood that is painted white down the center of the table. Keeping a piece of wood around for table centerpieces is so handy. Simply paint a piece of 2 x 10 with chalk paint or whatever you have on hand and distress it with sandpaper along the edges and here or there. Then place it in the center of your table.

Layer a centerpiece for a Halloween dinner party

Make sure if you are making your wood centerpiece layer for the first time to place chargers on your table. Then measure in the middle for the piece of wood. This will help determine how wide and long your piece of wood should be.

Next toss this fall paper leaf garland on the table. This was easy decorations to make using items from the Dollar Tree and what I had around the house. It takes about a day to create and it is the perfect project to do while watching Halloween movies or anything on tv. LOL!

DIY paper leaf garland centerpiece

I laid the garland on the piece of wood and curled it on the ends so it doesn't lay completely under the chargers.

DIY Halloween Decorations Jack-o'-Lantern Centerpiece

Now for the fun part and that is creating this luminary Jack-o'-lantern centerpiece. These pumpkins heads are easy to make. I have been looking all season long for different sizes. Some I found at dollar stores and one I found at a thrift store. The directions on how to make them are in the supply list above.

Depending on the sizes of your white pumpkin heads will determine how your design lays out. If you have the same size Jack's that I have then followed along exactly as I have it here.

If your jack o lanterns are different I would play around placing them on the wood and garland until you get them the way you want.

First, sit the large pumpkin painted white Pottery Barn Jack-o'-lantern on first on the left side. Then halfway between the large Jack and the other end place the cake stand.

Large Pottery Barn jack o lantern painted white

Next, sit two small ones in front of the cake stand. We call these the twins and named them after Katherin, one of the blogging assistance, and her twin sister Kayla. LOL!

White jack o lantern centerpiece for a Halloween dinner party table

And then a medium size jack on the cake stand and then turn two medium-size jack o lanterns around and place them on the end and between the large jack and cake stand.

Jack o lantern centerpiece

Last, place battery-powered candles inside the jack o lanterns, and your happy jack o lantern centerpiece is finished. Now you are ready to create the place settings.

Happy white carved dollar store jack o lantern pumpkins

Outdoor Halloween Party Place Settings

First, sit all your chargers down on the table. These chargers from Coton Colors are so adorable. I used them on my Thanksgiving dinner table last year that was also outdoors. But you could easily create something similar by spray painting Dollar Tree chargers and then adding polka dots.

Add chargers to your Halloween tablescape

Next, sit white plates on the table. I love mixing old and new, cheap and expensive pieces in decorations. It is a clever way to get a high-end look without breaking your bank. I got these white plates from Dollar Tree.

White plates added to a Halloween wood country tablescape

Now let's make something to go in the center of your white plate. These ribbon-tied napkins are so easy. First place a 24″ piece of gold or white satin ribbon on the table and then place a black paper napkin on top in the center both ways. Then sit a fork and spoon in the middle and tie the ribbon into a bow like you are tieing your shoelaces.

The napkin should fold in nicely when your tie it together. If it doesn't you can adjust the napkins after it is tied. Once you have the bow done slip the spoon and fork out. The spoon and fork make the napkin look more fluffy after you are finished.

How to make a fun Halloween table

Now place all your napkins in the center of the white plate and then add your silverware and glassware.

Glassware and silverware for a Halloween tablescape

Guess what? The outdoor Halloween tablescape is all finished. I have a few more details that will make your party the best ever.

Halloween party table decoration ideas and DIY

Conclusion

Remember the basket we used to carry all our supplies? Well, place it on a chair or on the ground and add some blankets. This will add a nice decoration and make your party cozy especially if it is cold outside. It will give your guests something warm in case they didn't come prepared for cooler weather.

Also, if you have a few more pumpkin heads place them around for decor. I added Jack and Jill to my blanket stash. This was the perfect touch to the DIY outdoor Halloween decoration idea.

Basket full of white painted dollar store carved pumpkins and a fall blanket

Now set a timer to turn on the candles about 15 minutes before the party and now you are all ready for guests. As Halloween night comes on the luminaries will make the best fun spooky Halloween decorations. LOL!

Aren't these fun Halloween party ideas? Halloween is a fun holiday to decorate for.

If you need some recipes ideas check out these Halloween treats at Adventures of Mel. Promise me you will go check them out because they are so funny and spooky and kids will LOVE them. Not to mention they will look AMAZING on these DIY outdoor Halloween table decorations.

Okay, so what do you think? Are you ready to create this outdoor Halloween table? This will make your guests feel so special and make your evening so spooky good. Let's take it back to the pioneer period with these easy Thanksgiving table decorations. This fall Thanksgiving tablescape is simple to make using items you probably have lying around your house like mini pumpkins and old books. It is perfect for Friendsgiving and a pilgrim Halloween dinner too.

Easy Thanksgiving table decorations

When my girls were growing up we used to love pretending we were pioneers and eating dinner by chamber oil lamps. We would turn off the lights and light the lanterns and each by the fire.

This was such a great memory until I thought it would be fun to create easy Thanksgiving table decorations in a Cottagecore pioneer spirit.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Easy Thanksgiving Table Decorations

Whenever I create a table for an event I usually decorate the day. It takes one less thing off your list the day of the event. So let's grab some supplies and get started.

Thanksgiving Table Settings Supplies

I love to shop my own home when working on table decorations so try shopping your home, your mom's, aunts, sister, brothers, or anyone who loves sharing their decor.

Shop supplies:

Here are a few notes about the supply list. I show two options for the place setting decorations so read till the end to decide if you want the mini pies or small pumpkin. Also, most of my items came from thrift stores, dollar stores, and my house. I will explain more later.

Fall Tablescape with a Pioneer Pilgrim Vibe

Have you figured out yet that I love decorating the table for Thanksgiving day more than cooking the food? LOL! We leave the food prep to my hubby who does an amazing job.

Now let's begin on the bottom layer of this table with a blanket. Yes, you heard me right. We are going to use a blanket for a table cloth. I love using blankets, sheets, or anything large enough to fit over a table. I used a knit blanket one time in this hygge beautiful Thanksgiving table setting and I used a chambray blanket with fringe on this outdoor farmhouse Thanksgiving dinner table.

I think you get the picture. Grab a plaid blanket and lay it along the center of your table.

Thanksgiving tablescape with plaid blanket

Now take a runner and lay it across your table in the opposite direction. This neutral-colored table runner is homemade from a dropcloth. I have directions on how to sew a ruffled table runner if you would like to make one too.

Drop cloth runner for fall table

Next grab a piece of white painted wood and lay it over the table runner. I have used that piece of wood on so many tables. It is handy to keep around. It also comes in handy on a coffee table, buffet, or anywhere you want to elevate your decorations.

Fall tablescape table linen layering

Now that we have the table linens set let's move on to decorations.

DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece

This easy centerpiece revolves around chamber oil lamps. You can find them in thrift stores and online like Amazon and Walmart. First, sit two or three neutral-colored books in the center of the table. This will elevate the middle oil lamps.

Now place three oil lamps on the wooden runner and books. Space them apart so you can lay a fall garland in the middle. (You will notice I don't have the books on the table here. I didn't add the book until later but make sure to add your books here)

Chamber lamps for a autumn tablescape centerpiece

Fall Garland Gorgeous Centerpiece

Next, grab your fall garland or make an autumn paper leaf garland from Dollar Tree and grocery store items as I did. You can find all the details in this DIY paper leaf garland post.

Weave your fall foliage from one end of the table and around the glass lamps to the other end. The fall leaves warm up this beautiful centerpiece but we are not quite finished.

Fall paper decorations

I added the books at this point.

easy Thanksgiving tablescape

Next place your brass candlesticks and white candles nestling them into the leaf shape garland. One on one side and the other on the other side.

Thanksgiving tablescape with brass candlesticks

I love making easy Thanksgiving centerpieces. This perfect centerpiece looks complicated but it is actually only layers. Give this DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece a try. Now let's work on the place settings.

Thanksgiving Place Settings

To me, the place setting is another place to create a centerpiece but this center piece is more personal to each of your guests or family members which I why I always like to give them a little gift or treat here.

One of my favorite tables — hygge Thanksgiving table I mentioned earlier I used mini pies. Looking back this was my all-time favorite place setting Thanksgiving decorations. However, if you want other ideas consider mini pumpkins or pine cones would be cute too.

But before we dive too far into the place setting decoration let's build your place setting dishes.

Dinnerware

Start with a simple white plate. I bought mine at the Dollar Tree but you can find them at any dollar store. Sit each white plate on the table in front of each chair.

Autumn colored Thanksgiving tablescape

It helps me when placing the plates to make sure the chairs are pushed in and in their right position so I can sit a place center in front of the chair and pulled to the edge of the table.

Next place a wooden plate on the white plate. Using a wooden plate helps bring another pioneer pilgrim element. I can imagine the early pilgrims probably made most of their utensils out of wood they carved so a wooden plate fit in perfectly.

Wooden plate on white plate for Thanksgiving table

Glassware and Silverware

Follow by placing the silverware and then a Moscow mule cup or mug. I am not sure what exactly our forefathers drank out of but my guess is they brought some sort of cup with them over on the Mayflower. I just happened to have these Moscow mules in my husband's mom's cedar chest so they were a perfect fit.

Silverware for Pioneer table

I also loved how the copper color matched the color in the plaid blanket table cloth.

Moscow mule mug for Thanksgiving dinner

Homemade Mini Pies or Mini Pumpkin Fall Place Setting Centerpiece

Next, you need something to sit in the middle of the wood plate as a place setting decorations. We have two different ways to style this — mini pies or mini white pumpkins. Here is a photo of the small pumpkins.

You can use faux pumpkins or real pumpkins. Both look amazing!

Mini pumpkins place setting decorations

If you like to homemade pie look then grab your miniature pies. Traditional pies to use are pumpkin pie, apple pie, or pecan pie. Walmart had all but the pumpkin pie option at my store but I wouldn't put it past them to offer the pumpkin pie too.

Now take a pair of scissors and cut into the flour sack dish towels. Then tear the rest down to the other end. If the seam stops you from tearing use your scissors to cut into it. Also, if it doesn't seem to tear easily or nicely turn the fabric around and try again from the other side.

Cut fabric to tie around a mini pie

When tearing fabric you have to be tearing it with the grain and not against it. You may need to try it from several directions.

Now tie one piece of fabric around the tiny pie and tie it into a sailor's knot. You can add a name card under the tie if you want to include a place card.

Thanksgiving mini pie decoration

Then set it in the center of the wooden plate.

Mini pie fall place setting decoration

Yay! Now you are all finished with your table setting. Last toss some pillows on your bench. This is optional for comfort and looks but if you having kids come I would pass on the pillows.

PIllows on a bench for a tablescape

Now that your beautiful table is done make sure to light your hurricane lamps about five minutes before guests arrive. Turn the wick down very low almost where you cannot see it but not too low because then it will fall down into the oil. The lower the wick the lower the light.

Also, lowering the wick will help with the smoke emitted from the chamber lamp. If your glass cover is dirty I find putting them in the dishwasher makes it sparkle.

Conclusion

Well, we have finished these easy elegant Thanksgiving table decorations and it is time to party. Here are more final shots of the table. I hope you have a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving.

easy Thanksgiving fall tablescape

This table is also great for a fall or autumn party. Invite friends over and sit by lamplight. You could even do it for Halloween and call it a pilgrim costume party. Everyone has to wear pilgrim-style clothes and come eat an old-fashioned pioneer dinner.

Now that you have a table decoration for this holiday season my friend Mel has Thanksgiving meal recipes to finish your dinner at Adventures of Mel. And for more fall inspiration try these Thanksgiving table decoration ideas.

I hope you have fun creating this table and a wonderful Thanksgiving.

The best way to start planning any patriotic party is to decide where the table will be located. I picked the porch for this backyard BBQ party. So I moved our wicker furniture outside and brought out the back patio table onto the back porch.

Farmhouse table on back porch for a patriotic party

My son-in-law and I made this table and I have the details on how to build a farmhouse table. So now you have your July party table set let's start decorating the table going step by step.

Patriotic Tables Cloth

First decide if you want a tablecloth, paper or leave the table plain. I used this towel I found in the Target dollar spot last year but here is another similar stripe blanket. Simply toss your table covering over the table making sure the same amount hangs over on each side. Now let's create a patriotic table centerpiece.

Blue and white stripe tablecloth for a patriotic tablescape

Patriotic Centerpiece

This Americana centerpiece is super easy to create. Basically, use a white pitcher and fill it with wooden spoons, rolling pins, or any wood utensils. And then add some American stick flags.

Patriotic centerpiece

First, sit a red and white buffalo check plate in the middle of the table first. I used this Coton Colors plate from my Christmas tree centerpiece tablescape.

Fourth of July centerpiece

Now sit an old or new white or cream pitcher on the plate.

Patriotic centerpiece

And add old or new wooden spoons and small flags like these Betsy Ross flags. Adding an old American flag is the beginning of adding a little history to your table.

Betsy Ross patriotic centerpiece

I like to create tables that have a little story or something special about them. Years ago I created a 4th of July tablescape and used many of the same table decorations. And this table takes us back in time too.

The pitcher is a salt-glazed pitcher from the 1800s. The wooden rolling pin is also from the 1800s. It belonged to my great-grandmother on my Dad's side of the family.

Consider using pieces that are vintage or antiques. You can find pieces in thrift stores or antique shops. Or you can purchase a simple white pitcher and paint blue stripes around it.

Now let's start creating the place settings and again I have a little story to tell.

Independence Day Patriotic Place Setting

Usually, I design a place setting around a little gift for my guests. Since this is an at-home small family backyard BBQ party, I wanted to create a bit of history. But for your table, you don't have to have a story behind your place setting.

Dinner Plate

To begin let's place the dishes on the table. First, put a dinner plates down like this Currier and Ives blue plate. Or you can use a red, blue or white plate.

Napkins and Salad Plate

Then place a white napkin on the dinner plate next. And then top the set with another Currier and Ives salad plate. Or a solid colored plate in red, white, or blue.

George Washington's Birthplace

If you use this Currier and Ives plate you are adding a little history to your table. The design on this plate is George Washington's birthplace. This home on this salad plate is located in Virginia at a National Monument site called George Washington's birthplace. The original home burned down but it has been reconstructed for visitors to site see.

Since we are celebrating America, I thought it would be fun to add this plate. This is my favorite part of the table. The land and house George Washington was born in belonged to my 10th great-grandfather, Henry Brookes. He sold it to George Washington's dad. Later baby Washington was born there.

Do you see the connection to this patriotic decor party idea? George Washington is one of the founding fathers of our country and our first president.

Wooden Silverware

Now let's move on to the silverware. Since this is an upscale backyard BBQ have some fun and add wooden spoons, forks, and knives. The wooden silverware fits in nicely with the July 4th centerpiece.

Red, white and blue tablescape for Patriotic holiday

You can use any kind of silverware but wooden utensils makes the table a little more fun.

Patriotic style place setting

Glasses

Next, add glasses for coke floats. I found these cute Irish coffee mugs with a handle at the Dollar Tree. I love shopping there for glassware. They have many options, and you can order online if you have many guests and need a larger quantity. You can check the dollar store for glassware too. It is a great place to shop.

The style of these glasses fit in nicely with a BBQ vibe and look very nice with the place settings. A mason jar would look cute too.

Patriotic table decorations

Guess what? Your table is finished, so add your chairs unless they are already at the table. It is time to party!!! So fire up your grill. We searched hamburgers, chips, baked beans, and coca-cola floats for dessert. My sweet little nephew and his mom came over to celebrate.

Fun patriotic backyard BBQ

He was so cute! His favorite part was when I made the coke floats in the cute coffee mug. He watched every detail as I put ice cream into the glass and then added the coke. He thought that was cool, but when we asked him if he wanted some, he said no. LOL!

Conclusion

Now that your table is finished, consider adding a few other touches to your party. Grab your patriotic theme decorations and start decorating the room, porch, or patio. I keep a crate full of patriotic décor to decorate for the summer.

Patriotic decorations for a backyard BBQ

Add a flag pillow on the chairs or a banner to the walls. Here is a cute free printable patriotic banner. Simply subscribe to my email to get access to all my free printables. If your party is in the evening hang some string lights. String lights give such a pretty sparkle to the event.

Patriotic dinner party decoration ideas

Add more stick American flags to plants or anything around the room like I did on the plant in the corner. And if you have any large star shape decor add them to your space. Adding extra July decoration pieces will make the space feel more festive.

Here is one last look at the table so you can see all the details.

I hope you have come away with some ideas and I hope your party turns out beautiful and fun. For more ideas try these patriotic decor ideas using red, white, and blue decorations.

Today I am sharing an easy and inexpensive DIY dollar store spring tablescape. Spring is a great time to entertain and this table setting is perfect for Easter, Mother's day, summer, or spring. This bee-themed table will be the talk of the party.

DIY Dollar store spring bee themed tablescape with chamomile flowers, Dollar Tree gingham buffalo check chargers, white dishes, La Rochere bee glasses, Martha Stewart honey and bee napkins.

This easy DIY dollar store spring tablescape is probably the easiest and cheapest table decorations for family or small party I have come up with yet and it exudes happiness.

Most of this table is hand-crafted and Dollar Tree or dollar store items. I even have a new dollar store to introduce you to. More about that later but recently it came to my attention that many people don't know what a tablescape is so here is my definition of a tablescape.

WHAT IS A TABLESCAPE?

A tablescape is the same thing as table decorations or table settings for dinner, lunch, brunch, or breakfast. It is a table created for friends and family usually around themes like spring, fall, Christmas, and so on.

So now that you know what a tablescape is let's buzz over to this table setting where the design began with a honey bumble bee dinner napkin.

DIY DOLLAR STORE SPRING TABLESCAPE

To begin let's gather some materials. Here is a list of what you need.

What is Popshelf?

You may have noticed the flower jewelry dish by Popshelf and wondered what is Popshelf? Well, it is a new store concept by Dollar General. It brings a high-end look with a low price range. Most items in the store are under $5.00. They carry trendy home decor decorations, beauty supplies, arts and crafts, toys, specialty foods, cleaning supplies, and much more.

I was hooked after visiting the one in Atlanta. Pop Shelf has so many beautiful home decor items and I couldn't wait to share this jewelry dish on this tablescape with you.

HOW TO MAKE BUFFALO CHECK CHARGERS?

Before you get started creating this farmhouse garden-style table let's make the buffalo check chargers.

First sand the charger to rough up the finish. Then wipe it with a clean damp paper towel to remove any grit.

Next, paint one coat of chalk paint, acrylic, or any craft paint. Let that dry and add another coat if needed.

How to chalk paint a Dollar Tree charger

Now take 2″ painters tape and run a piece of tape down the center.

Next place another piece of painter's tape up against the first piece then lay another piece next to it.

How to paint a gingham pattern on a Dollar Tree charger

Remove the middle piece and repeat this step on the other side.

Painted buffalo check on Dollar Tree charger

Press down along the edges with your finger so that paint will not bleed under the tape. Once you tape is secure dry brush the blue-green color.

To dry brush simply dab your paintbrush into the paint. Just a tiny bit on the tip of the paint brush. Then dab the paintbrush on a paper towel or paper plate to remove some of the paint.

DIY Dollar Tree charger buffalo check

Then you lightly brush the paint between the pieces of tape. After you finish remove the tape and let it dry.

DIY Dollar store buffalo check pastel color charger

You can use a blow dryer to make the process go quicker. Once the paint is dry simply repeat what you did but turn the place 90 degrees and start taping and painting again.

Easy do it yourself chalk painted check charger

After you remove the tape and your chargers are good and dry it is time to set this spring bee-themed table setting.

DIY DOLLAR TREE SPRING BEE THEMED TABLE SETTING

Begin by placing the white board down the middle of the table then place all your pastel buffalo check chargers.

DIY dollar store spring tablescape with a garden bee design

Next, add your Dollar Tree white dinner plate and salad plate stacking them one on top of the other.

Easy DIY Dollar store spring garden tablescape

Now grab the adorable light blue honey bee Martha Stewart dinner napkin and place one in the middle of the Dollar Tree white salad plate.

Simple place setting with Martha Steward honey bee napkins DIY

Then sit the floral jewelry dish from Popshelf right in the middle.

DIY honey bee themed tablescape with Popshelf flower jewelry dish

Next, add your silverware. We used gold silverware that we purchased at an antique/thrift store but silver will work on this tablescape too.

DIY table decorations for spring

And last place your La Rochere glasses above the knife on the table. If you can spring for these Le Rochere bee glasses they are the icing on the cake. They are so bee-autiful and they are perfect for many other table settings like my garden party decoration ideas and this Thanksgiving dinner table setting.

EASY SPRING CHAMOMILE FLORAL CENTERPIECE

If you have a dark-colored table adding a white chalk-painted board will brighten up your centerpiece. I have used this white board on many tablescapes. You will find it to come in handy.

First, place your white board centered in the middle of the table. Then add painted clay pots that are wrapped with twine staggered on the white board.

I have direction on how to paint these pots to look old in my french country table setting idea post.

Once they are painted and dried wrap them in twine and place them on your board.

Next place a small mouthwash cup inside or anything that will fit inside that will hold water and put water in the cup.

I like to use filtered water from the fridge. It seems to keep flowers longer.

Next cut the stems on the flowers about 8″ long. I took a handful and cut them all together and then placed them down inside the pot with the cup inside.

Floral arrangement with chamomile flowers

After you finish filling the clay pots with chamomile cut a few other pieces of flowers and drop them around the clay pots as if they have fallen off of the flower arrangement.

Easy DIY spring centerpiece with vintage clay pots and chamomile flowers

I found it to be easier to bring the board and pots into my kitchen by doing the floral arranging. I found these flowers at Trader Joe's but here is a post on the best places to buy flowers if you don't have Trader Joe's.

Now you have a simple centerpiece for your spring bee table setting. Place your board and flower arrangement back in the middle of the table.

DIY spring floral farmhouse style centerpiece

See how easy this spring tablescape is to create and there are so many events and dinners you can create it for. And all ages will love it!!!

So let's take a look at the whole table now that every piece is set.

I almost forget to mention adding pillows to your chairs or bench. This is another detail that makes the bee inspired table decoration look cozy.

CONCLUSION

Now that you have a lovely table set for your family and friends let's talk about a gift for your guests.

One of my favorite things to do is give the top piece of the place setting to guests when they go home so share with your friends and family that they get to take home the Popshelf jewelry dish.

DIY dollar store spring tablescape using Pop Shelf jewelry dish on a spring place setting

If you have any guys at the party and maybe the flower dish is not their thing then tell them it makes a great gift to give to a loved one.

I mentioned other holidays this DIY dollar tree tablescape is good for and the most obvious is Easter since it is the heart of spring. A cute way to add a touch of Easter is to place grass in the dish and one speckled egg.

Another great idea is for Mother's day coming up. Wouldn't it be fun to celebrate all those women in your life who have played a part in mentoring you? Creating a spring bee table like that will make them feel so special.

Spring table decorations idea

I hope this inexpensive table setting has given you the inspiration to create a lovely table this spring.

This fall celebrate with family and friends with these Farmhouse style Thanksgiving dinner table ideas for a delicious feast. This dining table design can be placed inside or outdoors and it is easy to create.
Thanksgiving dinner table ideas for outdoors

Last year I created a Dollar Tree fall Thanksgiving tablescape but this year I teamed up with Coton Colors to bring you elegant outdoor Thanksgiving dinner table ideas.

Like always, this tablescape is easy to create and you most likely will not have to leave home to pull it together like my easy Thanksgiving table decorations with a pilgrim vibe. So let's get started and I will walk you through the steps on creating this lovely Farmhouse style holiday table setting.

This post is sponsored by Coton Colors and contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own.

Thanksgiving Dinner Table Ideas

Before I begin I want to tell you a little about Coton Colors. Coton Colors is a wonderful company that originated in my home town of Tallahassee. They make pottery and accessories for your home and holidays.

Their designs are unique, fun and gorgeous!

I have been decorating with their pottery and accessories for years. One of my favorites is my patriotic front door wreath. Coton Colors has more wreaths on their Happy Everything website.

But let's dive into making this farmhouse style table setting.

How can I decorate my Thanksgiving table?

Before you start gather all your supplies. Here is a list of what I used to create this farmhouse style Thanksgiving table.

Now that you all your pieces let's begin putting it all together.

Linens

Let's begin with layering linens on the table. I love to be creative when it comes to tablecloths. For this project, I used a flat sheet that has a yummy wrinkled look and tossed it on the table.

Thanksgiving dinner table decoration beginning with a white flat sheet

Then I placed a blue faded throw with tassels on the ends across the center kind of like a runner. I laid it out in an s-shape on the table making sure where there was a flat spot for a place setting.

Blue blanket throw drapped across a table as a runner for Fall tablescape

Fall or Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Next, let's do a little prep work to make the centerpiece.

Grab two bundles of dried wheat and placed them inside the french country pitcher. I didn't even have to cut the ends. The french pitcher was tall enough to hold them at their current height.

Bundles of wheat inside a french country pitcher for a Thanksgiving centerpiece

Once you have the dried wheat in the pitcher let's look at making the wooden platform for your table.

Measure the longest side of your table and then subtract 24″ and then cut your board to that length. Next, brush on some white chalk paint and let it dry. Then using sandpaper rub off the paint on the corners or anywhere to give it a distressed look.

Once you have everything ready place the distressed piece of wood in the center of the table and then put the dried arrangement in the center.

Place Settings

Again you will need to do a little prep work on the place setting. Take the silverware and place the knife down first and then cross over the knife with a fork and then cross the other side with a spoon.

Then cut a piece of ribbon that is about 24″ long and tie it around the silverware just like you do a shoelace. After you have all the silverware ready let's begin making the place settings.

Silverware wrapped in ribbon and tied in a tow for a fall or Thanksgiving tablescape

First lay down the ruffled polka dot charger.

Then place the dinner plate on top of the charger.

Next place a white salad plate on the dinner plate. I like to mix and match old, new and borrowed pieces. The dinner plates are from my farmhouse hutch.

White salad plate sitting on a Coton Color dinner plate which is sitting on a ruffled polka dot platter for a fall tablescape.

Now for the fun part and this is where I love to pick something out as a gift for friends and family.

Place a dipping bowl right in the center. I love how this bowl fits the vibe of this Thanksgiving tablescape with a wonderful reminder of being thankful.

Thanksgiving dinner table ideas

Adding something special to the center makes each guest feel special and they will love it the surprise when they hear it is a gift.

Next place your silverware to the right on top of a linen napkin.

Silverware for a Fall Thanksgiving tablescape

And then place your stemless champagne flute above the silverware.

Last all you have to do is sit a salt and pepper shaker on the table.

Coton Colors salt and pepper shakers

I have something exciting to share. If you use code SUMMERHILL when you make a purchase you get this adorable salt and pepper shaker with your order.

Guess what? Your Thanksgiving tablescape is all finished!!! Here are a few more photos to show you an overall look.

Conclusion

So you are probably wondering why the title of this post is Thanksgiving dinner table decoration ideas. Well, the coolest part about Coton Colors is their dishes are all designed to be mixed and matched. This means you can change out one or two pieces and you have a whole other fall dinner table idea.

Coton Colors table decorations for Thanksgiving

See how I mixed and matched pieces to create a unique look?

Now that your table is all pulled together here are a few other tidbits.

If you are planning your event outside look at your weather reports at temperature and if it will be raining. Bring it inside if you have any possibility of rain.

Also, fill a basket or two with all your supplies for easy assemble the morning of the event. The basket looks cute next to your table and you can fill it with blankets for guests if it is chilly.

blanket on a bench

Next, place a few hats on the chairs in case the sun comes out and is in someones eyes.

Toss a few pillows in chairs to make seating comfortable.

And lay a folded blanket on a bench if you are using a bench, for more comfort.

Now everything is ready for friends and family and I hope your event turns out great.

It is time to really have fun with these Hawaiian luau party ideas. These easy to make and inexpensive party decorations will make your event fun and memorable.
A Hawaiian party table setting with a bright blue umbrella with home-made tassels, floppy hats, blue striped pillows, a Hello Sunshine sign, along with a Hawaiian tablescape .

After traveling to Hawaii last year I found so much inspiration for Hawaiian luau party ideas. The countryside was lush and rich with vegetation and their culture was laid back, colorful, and beautiful.

I kept seeing hibiscus jewelry and wood carved bowls everywhere. Before I left I knew I needed to bring some of these goodies home and plan tropical party ideas for adults.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Hawaiian Luau Party Ideas

In addition to the wooden bowls and hibiscus earring that I brought home, I start thinking of other homemade luau decorations to pull together a centerpiece and tablescape.

Let's start with the centerpiece and work our way out but first here is a supply list to create this tiki party idea.

What do you need for a Hawaiian themed party?

Starting from the top down let's begin with decorating your your umbrella.

Homemade Tassel Umbrella

So the umbrella is not homemade but the tassels are hand made. To make the tassels simply follow my direction on my How to Make a Rug with Tassels post.

Once you have your tassels made all you have to do is use a large sewing needle and attach them to the umbrella. Another way to attach them is with a glue gun but we wanted to make our detachable so we sewed them on.

A backyard umbrella for your pool party with home-made tassels sewn into the bright blue umbrella.

Hawaiian Centerpiece Ideas

Now let's talk about Hawaiian centerpiece ideas. This is the cheapest centerpiece I have ever created. Except for the simple french country table setting idea. That one was so easy and inexpensive too.

Simply start with some greenery and sprinkle it on the table around the umbrella pole. Next position three large shells on top and around the greenery.

A tropical center piece with leafs, a conch shell, and a hibiscus flower.

Follow the shells and starfish with one or two hibiscus flowers (I found mine in my neighbor's yard) and cut some fruit into slices and spring it around and on top of the greenery.

An Hawaiian themed center piece. with leafs, cut citric, and starfish.

Hawaiian Table Setting

Remember me mentioning chargers from the dollar tree in the supply list? Well, since you have only spent a dollar on each one why not give them a beautiful tropical color to add to your tablescape.

I simply used an artist paintbrush and painted them pink. Once they were dry I stacked a dinner plate and a linen napkin wrapped salad plate.

Then my silverware and stemless champagne glasses.

Next, I put the small wooden bowl on the linen napkin, placed one hibiscus earring inside the bowl, and then the aloha free printable.

A Tiki party ideas with a bright center piece with shells, leafs, cut citrus, and colorful flowers. Along with arangged plates with a wooden bowl with Dole Whip.

Aloha Free Printable

Now you are probably wondering where did I get the Aloha free printable. Well, I created it and if you sign up for my newsletter you can print it out on cardstock, cut it out and use it too for your Hawaiian luau party.

A Hawaiian table setting with a pink painted charger with a napkin wrapped salad plate with a leaf printable that says Aloha.

Hawaiian Beach Party Accessories

Next, add some outdoor pillows to your chairs. This warms up the overall tiki party feel. Then toss a beach blanket over one or two chairs. You can use beach towels too.

A Hawaiian themed decor idea including a bright colorful tassel blanket and a striped blue pillow.

Last, place a couple of beach hats and a beach sign to polish the look.

A Summer party idea, With bright citrus in the background with a floppy hat as an extra piece of decor that adds a lot.

What do you do at a Hawaiian themed party?

There are so many fun things to do at a Hawaiian themed party? Play some ukelele music during the event, if you have a pool offer for guests to swim.

You can play some games like pass the coconut and limbo.

Conclusion

Now that you have all your decorations in place you are probably wondering what is going into the small wooden bowl. Well, in Hawaii there is the Dole Pineapple Plantation. Their farm is very large and beautiful and a big part of Hawaii.

I thought wouldn't it be fun to incorporate pineapples into the wooden bowls. So when they released the Dole Whip recipe I knew this would be the icing on the cake. Or maybe I should say the ice cream on the Hawaiian tablescape. Haha!

So here is the final product for your Hawaiian luau party. I hope you are inspired and are planning a fun tropical party for adults and children.
