The best Behr white paint colors from crisp bright white to whites with undertones. Let's look at popular white paint colors by Behr and examples of interior rooms and exterior houses.

Behr ultra pure white walls

You might be thinking, how many white Behr paint colors are there? Well, you will be surprised and possibly overwhelmed so in this post, I have narrowed it down to twelve white colors.

After many years of designing new homes and remodeling old homes, I have found that white is almost always used either for trim, walls, cabinets, or anywhere in a home. Recently I have been using Behr paint more and more, and I love it so when I started thinking of a white for our exterior doors I thought why not go to the most popular Behr white paint colors?

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Best Behr White Paint Colors

Before we dive into white paint colors, undertones, and pictures of room applications, here is a list of the best white paint colors by Behr

  • Ultra Pure White
  • Blank Canvas
  • Swiss Coffee
  • Spun Cotton
  • Sleek White
  • Whisper White
  • Cameo White
  • Painter's White
  • Polar Bear
  • White
  • Frost
  • Silky White

Now that we have a list of the best Behr white paint colors, here are examples.

Project Tips:

  • LRV – You'll read the term LRV throughout the post. It stands for Light Reflectance Value. The highest LRV is 100. The higher the number, the more light will reflect from the color. A high LRV is a high reflective white and is great for a small room or a room that you want to be bright and sunny.
  • RGB – RGB is the amount of red, blue and green in each color. The colors with higher red levels will have warm tones, a higher blue will be a cooler white.
  • Large peel and stick samples from Home Depot for some of the Behr white colors. I find this to be the easiest way to see how a color will look in my home. I'll add them whenever available.
  • Paint Delivery: Did you know you can select your BEHR® Paint online and have it shipped to your door? If you plan ahead this will save you so much time because your paint will arrive in the mail. Consider purchasing other supplies like paintbrushes and trays at the same time.
  • Curbside Pickup: Add the paint to your Home Depot cart on the app when you decide on your paint color. Order the paint on the app for car delivery at the store. You will save yourself so much time and frustration from waiting in line at the paint counter. (Order a day or two in advance. Because of staff shortages, sometimes it takes a couple of days to get notified that your order is ready.)
  • Trim Paint Colors: When your picking a paint for your whole house, I recommend you pick the same trim color through your whole house. It is a great way to keep your home's appearance consistent and will make your life easier.

Behr Ultra Pure White

A couple of years ago, I was redecorating our guest bedroom, and because it is such a small bedroom, I knew a pure white color was what it needed. So I selected Ultra Pure White by Behr, and it is the perfect white paint color for this room. It has a soft appearance, and painting the trim and walls the same color made painting super easy.

With an LRV of 94 and color balance of 248 248 243, it reflects natural light a great deal, allowing the light to bounce off the walls and fill a room with sunshine. This is a great choice for a small room. It makes the room seem larger. Ultra Pure White is a good clean, crisp, and clear white. It works nicely with all colors. It a highly popular color to use on trim and doors.

Ultra Pure White is also an excellent color for trim, doors, walls, accent walls and furniture. Here is where my friend Lynsey used it as a trim color throughout their early 1900s Victorian home. Isn't it beautiful!

You can get a large peel and stick sample of Ultra Pure White from Home Depot.

You can watch the renovation of their historic home on their Instagram channel at the Pauline Manor.

And here is where my friend Fallon used Ultra Pure White on an accent wall.

You can find more images of Fallon's accent wall on her Instagram at Fallon's Homestead.

Blank Canvas by Behr

Blank Canvas is another color I have experience with, and I love it even more than Ultra Pure White. This beautiful warm white is even Behr's paint color of the year 2023. I am not surprised because look at how beautiful this color looks on the side walls of my converted closet into pantry.

Blank Canvas Behr paint walls

With an LRV of 84, it has a color balance of  241 237 225 giving it a creamy undertone, this is a gorgeous white that has a warm neutral undertone. This is definitely one of my favorite white paint colors. This is a great place to start if you're looking at warmer white paint colors.

Behr Swiss Coffee

Swiss Coffee has been one of Behr's best-selling paints. This creamy white looks gorgeous in this dining room by Jenna Sue Designs. I love her designs so much that I included it in Behr's popular paint colors. It is one of my favorite colors for interior walls.

With an LRV of 84 and color balance of 241 237 224, it is warm and slightly creamy color. To see more beautiful photos by Evelyn Jean check her Instagram at Evelyn Jean Home.

Spun Cotton

Spun Cotton is one of Behr's top colors and is popular among designers. It is a great option for every room in the house, walls, trim, furniture cabinets, or pretty much anywhere.

spun cotton by behr

With a LRV of 89 and color balance of 247 242 227, it's warmer than the other whites we've looked at so far.

Sleek White

Sleek White almost has a yellow look to it. With an LRV of 92 and color balance of 250 246 233, it gives your white a warm glow giving it a sunshine-y feel.

Whisper White

Whisper White has an LRV of 89, so it's bright but not overly so. It has one of the highest levels of green color in the color balance compared to the red and blue levels.

whisper white by behr

To best see the difference in whites, hold it up to the Ultra Pure White for a good contrast.

Behr Cameo White

Cameo White is the perfect paint color for the interior and exterior of your home. Consider using it on walls, furniture, and cabinets.

With an LRV of 81, which will give your room a calm feel. The color balance of 235 232 226 is a nice, neutral white base.

Painter's White

Painter's White is interesting as its LRV of 76 is relatively low. With a color balance of 229 226 218, it is a nice neutral color. It is a great wall color with the Ultra Pure White for the trim.

You can get a large peel and stick sample of Painter's White at Home Depot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is beige coming back in 2023?

Beige is coming back in style but greige is probably more in style. Griege is an even mix of greys and tans which make it a great neutral paint color. Gray is not gone yet in fact many people are mixing greys and beiges in their home.

Is beige a neutral color?

Yes beige is considered a neutral color but one thing to know is that beige has a warm undertone. Beige is a neutral with a warm undertone.

Is beige replacing gray?

I honestly do not think beige will replace grey and gray will replace beige. Both are consider neutral colors and neutral colors will always be a great color to use in home interior and exteriors. However, greys are becoming less people in the neutral family while beige is coming more prevelent.

Polar Bear

Polar Bear is highly light reflective with an LRV of 90. With a color range of 245 244 236 it definitely has a warm undertone. This is an excellent color for walls or furniture.

polar bear by behr

You can get a large peel and stick sample of Polar Bear at Home Depot.

Behr White

Another great trim, cabinet, door or anywhere color is Behr white. This color is evenly distribed with 235 235 230. That makes it a nice clean color.

Here is a beautiful excample of white by Behr on my friend Luci's kitchen cabinets. Luci has a blog on home decor at the White Oak Shop. They wanted a classic white that matched everything and since the cabinets when all the way to the ceiling picking Behr white was a no brainer.

This beautiful Behr white has a LRV 83 which means it's not going to be reflecting a lot of light and will give that calm look but keep that bright white feeling. This is perfect for a kitchen or bathroom cabinet and the perfect choice if you need a nice, neutral white.

Frost

Frost is different from all the other whites mentioned above as its color balance is  R 239 G 240 B 236, so it is highest on green, giving it cool undertones. This would make an excellent color for your trim if you like grays but keep in mind, with an LRV of 87, it will not reflect a lot of light. It's a great farmhouse matte color.

frost by behr

You can get a large peel and stick sample of Frost at Home Depot.

Silky White

Silky White has a low LRV of 83, so it is not highly reflective. It has a warm feel with a color balance of R 238 G 235 B 226. It would look great on your wall with Ultra Pure White on the trim, or even use it on the walls and the trim.

Behr paint silky white

Final Thoughts on the Best Behr White Paint

I hope this has answered your questions about most popular Behr white paint colors. From warm undertones to the coolest whites, you're sure to find the perfect shade for every room in your home. If you've used a Behr white paint for your walls, trim, or exterior, I'd love to hear what color you used and where you used it in the comments! This time of year, blankets are needed to help us stay warm and cozy but knowing how to style throw blankets will make your home decor look warm and cozy too. Today I am sharing different ways you can decorate with blankets that can be easily grabbed to cover up on a cool winter night.

How to style throw blankets

Have you ever walked into a room and something about it looks so inviting? There are beautiful fluffy pillows, candles, and baskets, but I bet there is at least one blanket in the room.

To top off all this lovely decor, I feel the person who decorated this room knew just how to style throw blankets to make it look even more special.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

How to Style Throw Blankets

There are many reasons why throws are necessary for your home decor. They provide warmth to friends and family, offer a new texture to your home decor, and give color to your space.

In this post, we will break down different ways you can style your blanket or throw options to consider when shopping.

How to Style Throw Blanket on a Couch

I am starting this, how to style throw blankets, with probably my all-time favorite, and that is hanging on the back of a sofa.

Back of sofa blanket

If you have a sofa where the back is showing, this is a great way to create visual interest, add style, texture, and color.

I like to change out this blanket by season and holiday. For example, here is a picture where I place a fall blanket on the back of my living room sofa when I was decorating for fall.

One thing to consider is if your sofa has attached cushions, then you may not be able to place a blanket draped over the back of your couch. However, if you have detached cushions, then here is a great styling method to hang a blanket on the back of your sofa.

How to Drape Throw on the Back of Sofa

Fold the throw in half. If it has fringe, make sure you fold it where the fringe comes together.

Find the center of the throw and place it on the center of the back of the sofa.

Tuck your blanket behind the cushions, ensuring the fringe hangs down on the bottom.

I love this idea! This is one of my favorite ways to style a throw blanket. The back of the couch or sofa goes from plain to decorative. It is a great way to add a new aesthetic to your space.

Consider changing the blanket for other holidays like Christmas. This year, we have a new blanket to add: a Hearth and Hand green and red plaid. It adds a gorgeous pop of color. They also have coordinating throw pillows. I will be sharing that soon in our Christmas post.

Now there is another way to style your throw on a sofa or a chair, and that is the toss method.

How to Drape a Blanket over a Sofa or Chair

How to style a blanket on the back of a sofa

Here is another excellent example of decorating with blankets on couches. After decorating our mantel for spring, I tossed a blanket over our sofa to add a cozy feeling to the decor.

This is an easy way to make your family room feel cozier. There is no right or wrong way to toss a throw over an upholstered piece of furniture, but here is my trick.

Pinch the center of the blanket and pull it up in the air.

Gently drape the throw over the back of the sofa or chair. Start at the seating area and drape it over the back if the back of the furniture is not showing into the main living area. If you see the piece of furniture's back when you walk into the room, consider reversing this step so that it drapes more over the back.

This cozy throw is perfect for this styling. This a great option for a more casual look. It makes me want to curl up under my blanket on a chilly day with a cup of tea and a good book.

Spring decorating ideas for your fireplace mantel

You can use this same concept on a bench too. In our entryway, we have an old wooden bench. I love to change the decor seasonally, as I did here with the pillows, blanket, and flowers.

Large wall clock in an entryway

Who would have guessed there is so much to say about draping a throw over a piece of furniture? LOL!

Next, let's talk about a decorative storage solution using a basket. I love decorating with wicker baskets.

How to Style Throw Blankets in Baskets

Basket decoration with blankets

Probably the most popular way to store blankets is in baskets. But have you ever thought about styling your throw in a basket? I love baskets! They make incredible decorations, just like blankets.

This is one of the easiest ways to style your throw blanket. To style your basket with a throw, toss the fabric into the basket and then drape it a little over the side.

You can fold and roll your coverings if you want a tidy look for your basket. If you want to hide your throw blankets purchase a storage container with a lid. This is an excellent idea if you have toys or other items you want to hide too.

How to Hang a Blanket

Next on our agenda is how to hang a blanket. If you install hooks in your home decor, you can easily hang a spread as a decoration, plus it is easy to grab to get warm and cozy.

In our kitchen, we have a sitting room. It's a good idea to change out the decorations for holidays and seasons on these hooks. In the summer, I use a thin lightweight throw on the hooks, but when fall and winter come, I go for something thicker and warmer.

French Market basket hanging on a wall with blanket hanging on a hook

The added blanket on the wall also adds texture and color to the decor. As you can tell, I change the blankets by season.

They're lovely decorative accents. See how it adds texture in the photo above, but I pulled in fall colors with this inexpensive Target dollar spot blanket in the photo below. We do not use it much in the summer, but it gets used quite often in the winter.

Here are more fall decorating ideas if you want to see how I decorated the rest of the room.

Decorating your kitchen with copper and blanket hanging on a hook

How to Style a Throw Blanket on a Bed

Just like sofas, there are two ways to style blankets on beds. The first idea is folding a blanket on the bottom portion of the bed. I used an accent throw in our small guest bedroom at the foot of the bed.

How to style a throw on a bed

Here is how I styled this blanket on my guest bed with one of my favorite throws.

Fold the blanket where the fringe, if it has fringe, is on the ends.

Place the blanket at the foot of the bed, evenly hanging down on the sides. Make sure the throw sets on the top of the bed.

How to style a comforter on the foot of a bed

If you have a comforter instead of a blanket, you can fold it and set it at the foot of your bed as I did here in my daughter's bedroom. This comforter is the perfect addition to create a layered look.

You can also toss a blanket or throw it on a bed, as we did in the sofa picture. As before, pinch it in the center and drape it on the bottom corner. Let the end drape off the bed.

How to Style Throw Blankets at Tables

When throwing a party or even a special dinner night for your family, add a blanket or throw to a bench as I did her when decorating for fall. This gives them a softer and warmer place to sit, and it looks inviting.

Styling a blanket on a dining table bench

In the next photo, when I was setting our vintage farmhouse Christmas table, I used what looks like a fur blanket on the bench but don't tell anyone; it is actually a rug. Wink wink!

I wanted to share this idea because there are so many beautiful faux fur throws you can purchase, which would look amazing on your bench. The soft texture of the improvised seat cushion will be welcomed by your guests.

How to style a fur blanket on a bench

If your event is outside, this is the perfect spot for a blanket because it can easily be pulled off the bench to be used.

How to decorate a bench with a throw blanket

Did you notice there is a blanket on the dining table used as a tablecloth? A little secret I love to share is being resourceful and using sheets, blankets, and other fabrics as tablecloths.

Using a throw blanket as a tablecloth

Do you recognize this blanket? It is the same throw on the bed in my guest bedroom. I used a white sheet on this table and then set the blanket on the table on a diagonal.

Since we are talking about using blankets as tablecloths, here is another example.

How to style a table with a blanket

For our Thanksgiving table last year, I used the blanket from the back of the sofa and draped it across the center of the table. Next, I added a drop cloth runner I made down the center, going the opposite direction, and then set a piece of chalk-painted wood on top. Who knew decorative blankets were so versatile?

Final Thoughts

Now that we have talked about how to style your decorative throws, here are some of my favorite places to shop for throws and blankets. TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods are great places to pick up blankets and throws to make your living space cozy. The quality is higher for a cheaper price.

I also like to shop at Target. They have trendy styles in different colors, which looks nice as a decoration, and they're usually machine washable.

Keep a throw or two in your main living areas and bedrooms. It is nice to have a couple of blankets for those cool winter nights, and it is a simple way to add layers and texture.

I almost forgot another idea that I do not use in my home and that is blanket ladders. If you have a place to hang a ladder, you can fold and drape your blankets over the steps. This makes a nice decoration and is very useful as a storage solution.

Now that we are finished decorating with blankets, where is your favorite place to buy blankets? Do you have a favorite blanket? What do you think is the best way to decorate with it?

Happy Decorating!

A way to add character and warmth to your white kitchen is with copper. These copper kitchen decor ideas are simple and beautiful, whether your copper is new or antique. I will show you four places where I have added copper accents in my kitchen design. This will give you an idea of creating a kitchen with copper accents in your home.

Kitchen copper accents

The color and patina of copper add so much character and style to kitchen decor, especially if you have a white kitchen.  If you love vintage or antique styles, you will love adding this warm metal to your decor.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Decorating with Copper in your Kitchen

Before we dive into adding copper accents to your kitchen, let's discuss the pros and cons of using copper in your home decor. If you love the look of aged copper when it turns a dark amber color, you can skip this part, but if you love the look of the rosy bright copper color, then this accessory will need to be cleaned on a weekly or monthly basis.

Keeping your copper clean is easy if you know my tricks. You can check out my post on how to keep your copper shiny the easy way. But for now, let's talk about several reasons why copper makes a great decoration.

Copper is great to cook with, making it a perfect, useful decoration in your kitchen.  I love using decor that can be used every day! And if you have a white kitchen, then copper is a great way to create warm and cozy feeling. But you might be asking, is copper in style?

Is copper in style for kitchen?

Copper is a timeless metal that can easily be used in modern kitchen designs and traditional home decor. Because copper is fabulous cookware to prepare food with it will never go out of style. So if you are considering copper for decoration or cooking go ahead and use it for your decor.

Now that we know a little about copper and that it is timeless, let's start looking at copper accent ideas.

Best Copper Kitchen Accent Ideas

In our kitchen, we have copper in four places. One place is very obvious and, in some ways, helps anchor the room. In three other places, my copper accessories are minimal but the effect goes a long way. Here are four copper accent ideas.

  • Copper pots, pans, and mugs over the stove
  • Copper on shelves and hooks
  • Copper hardware on appliances
  • Copper wall decor

Copper Cookware over Stove

If there is one place you can use copper to make a statement, it is with cookware hanging over your stove or on a pot rack. The best part about copper cookware accents is that you can display it as a decoration or, if you cook with copper, you now have a great place to store it.

I found this copper at an antique/thrift store a months ago.  It was an inexpensive purchase which was perfect because I wasn’t sure I wanted copper over my stove as a decoration, so it was a the perfect way to test out what would be a great first step.

Copper accents over a stove

I found two frying pans, and we had these antique mugs that belonged to my husband's parents.  So to try out if I like the copper hanging over my stove, I used command hooks as a temporary solution.  After a week, I found I loved copper, so I decided on a more permanent option.

Hanging the Copper Cookware

When I shared on Instagram about testing the copper idea on my stove, I couldn't believe how many people liked this post. Many people liked the idea of using command hooks so they wouldn't have to drill into their ceramic tile and I also found the idea of copper accents was a popular choice.

Next, I shopped for a pot holder rack and found this silver one at Ikea, but I wanted a copper color.  So I spray painted it with Behr antique copper spray paint.

Copper pot rack for over a stove

I love this paint!  This one can of paint has done several projects now.

Next, we hung the pot holder, and I set the copper pans on the hooks.  If you are like me and are not sure you will love having copper or anything hang on your tile wall over your stove, try the command hook idea first. I lived with my temporary copper idea for weeks before I made a longer-term commitment. Now I'm convinced it was the perfect addition to my kitchen.

Now a hanging pot rack over your stove is one way to decorate with copper pots or copper pans in your kitchen, but here is another simple and nostalgic idea.

Copper Kitchen Accents on Shelves or Hooks

Another place for copper is on shelves or hanging on hooks or, in my case, a dish rack.  This handmade dish rack is a DIY project I made with my brother-in-law and I love that this piece has a story.  I designed the rack, and we made it together.  Actually, he did most of the making, and I helped.  LOL!

Antique copper accent of a ladle hanging on a dishrack

Anyways, consider hanging or setting copper on shelves or a dish rack. Perhaps you have a beautiful statement piece such as a copper bowl, copper canisters, or moscow mule mugs. If you have white cabinets or open shelving, the copper will display beautifully. It is a good design to repeat patterns in a room.  Here is where I repeated the copper color with a favorite piece of mine, am antique copper ladle.

Antique copper ladle hanging on a hook in a white kitchen

One thing to consider. Copper stands out when placed against something white or light-colored. It would have almost disappeared if I had put copper on my shelf. But hanging it against a white or light-colored wall will help the copper show more. Copper would also be lovely on a white marble countertop.

For more information about the paint colors in my kitchen, check out my Life on Summerhill paint colors post. And my small french country kitchen tour has lots of information, too.

Now you could stop by placing copper in two spots in your kitchen, and these two places would be enough, depending on how much copper you want to include. But here are a few more copper detail ideas.

Copper Accents on Appliances

Look for appliances that have copper handles or details. On my stove, which is a GE cafe range and refrigerator, is a copper ring on the gold handles.  It is very small, but great designs are in the details.  I love these shiny copper accents. They are the perfect finishing touches with an elegant look. Gold and copper look great together, especially if your gold has a warm tone.

Copper accent on a ge cafe gas range

There are many appliances with copper details like copper knobs; some have more than mine which is just a touch of copper. And if you are going for a vintage aesthetic in your kitchen, then appliances with copper is worth checking into.

Also, consider a copper hood. I wanted copper to be an accent, so I didn't use copper on my hood, but if you adore copper, you will love the look of a copper range hood.

Kitchen Copper Accents on Walls

Here are fun and inexpensive ways to add copper to your kitchen by decorating your walls with copper. I do not regularly have any copper wall decor in my kitchen except for the copper cookware hanging over my stove and antique ladle. But this fall, I decided to add copper decorations.

I went to my favorite vintage stores and found a copper plate and copper flue plate. After I got home, I simply tied them with a jute cord and hung them on the hooks in my kitchen sitting area. Now I have fall decorations made of copper.

Decorating your kitchen with copper

If you want to add copper to your kitchen for fall, another idea is to shop for copper molds or wall art with copper; then, you have a great way to add it to your walls. You can hang them on a gallery wall or place a few pieces with other art or accessories.

I recently saw the cutest bunny mold made of copper, and I am seriously thinking about adding it to the walls in my kitchen, or maybe I could hanging over my stove.

You may even consider a copper backsplash or light fixtures such as copper pendant lights.

That wraps up my best ideas for adding copper accents to a kitchen. Remember, white kitchens are great for copper details. The white makes the copper stand out and shine.

Here is a photo of my whole kitchen so you can see how it came together.

White kitchen with copper accents

Conclusion

So what do you think? Are you ready to try copper accents in your kitchen, or did you inherit some copper, and now you are trying to figure out what to do with them? There are so many beautiful copper cookware items you can buy, new or old. Etsy is a great place to shop for new and antique copper cookware and copper molds.

If you want new copper cookware, shop at William and Sonoma. They have the most beautiful copper cookware that would be great for cooking food and beautiful hanging on your pot rack. Plus, you know it is safe to cook on for your friends and family.

Now I would love to know if you already have copper accents in your kitchen. If so, please share about your copper and how you display it in the heart of your home. I would love to hear your copper decor idea. I hope you have found this post helpful, and I hope you are having a wonderful day.

Happy Decorating!

If you love the idea of a French country kitchen but don't think you have the space for it, think again! With a few key design elements, you can easily transform your small kitchen into a charming and inviting space that feels like a little piece of France.

Small french country kitchen makeover

We have been adding french country farmhouse elements to our kitchen for over a year. Our kitchen is over 20 years old. The appliances were starting to trouble us, and the style looked dated. It has been a slow process to make all the changes because we didn't want to borrow money and wanted to do most of the projects ourselves.

I love the look of the beautiful kitchens in french country homes and wanted to bring that into my kitchen space. Good news – whether you have a large kitchen or small, you can bring these french country kitchen ideas to your home.

Small French Country Kitchen

Thankfully our kitchen is finished. Here is a kitchen tour of our small french country kitchen and tips on how you can transform your kitchen with french countryside elements.

1. Kitchen Walls

One of the first places we started transforming our kitchen was the walls. We painted over the wallpaper and gave it a nice light blue color by Sherwin Williams called Rhinestone. In some light, it looks white with a hint of blue, but in other lights, it is a perfect powder blue.

Sherwin Williams First Star painted on kitchen cabinetry

Paint is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to transform a whole room. Simply by changing the wall color, you can immediately change the mood. When it comes to french country paint colors, think soft whites, warm neutrals, muted shades of blue, green, oranges, and reds.

But because this project took so long, I started to change my mind about the paint color. I painted the accent wall and cabinets in our bathroom, Repose Gray, by Sherwin Williams. I fell in love with this color and had enough paint to repaint the kitchen. So now the walls are Repose Gray.

Next is the wall behind the range. Between the cabinets, we installed subway tiles. I figured white subway tiles would be perfect if I wanted to change colors or do any other styles in the future. Plus, I had plans for a different range with no upper back.

2. Kitchen Cabinets

Our next biggest project was the cabinets. In our last home, we painted our cabinets white. Well, in this home, they were a dark stain finish. This finish was great for 20 years when we were raising our daughters, but for a french country kitchen, I wanted a bright and light kitchen again.

We first painted all the cabinets with Sherwin Williams First Star. This was a simple project but took time. In another blog post, I have all the details on how to paint cabinets without sanding. After a couple of years, they are holding up beautifully. I believe they'll stand the test of time.

Cabinet paint color First Star by Sherwin Williams

Our next step was the range hood. Here is where we brought the french country vibe into the space. We went with a curved style hood and then painted it and gave it a blue rustic paint finish.

Curved hood design for a small french country kitchen

Remember me mentioning I changed the wall paint color. Well, when we painted the hood, the color of Rhinestone was too blue for the room, so this is another reason why we changed the wall color to Repose Gray.

3. Cabinet Hardware

Now that the cabinets were painted and the wall color was set, we focused on the cabinet hardware. I came across this gorgeous champagne gold pull. It was larger, so we had to fill our current holes and make new ones, but it was perfect!

Champagne gold cabinet hardware

Once we had the cabinet hardware in place, this is where I started planning the new appliances. I wanted appliances that fit a modern kitchen but had a vintage farmhouse french country vibe.

4. Vintage Style Appliances

I searched high and low for many different styles of modern appliances with a vintage look. There were many wonderful options, but we returned to the GE Cafe with gold finishes. However, we started with the dishwasher, which was not Cafe, because my current one died on me.

Dishwashers, in general, do not have a vintage vibe. And since the first thing you saw when you entered my house and kitchen was a dishwasher, I thought it was time to hide it. Our best option was the Bosch panel front dishwasher.

You might be wondering what a panel front dishwasher is. Well, it is a dishwasher that comes without a front. It's a great way to customize your dishwasher's appearance. So we built a cabinet front out of the cabinet doors from my master bathroom. We were so lucky they fit perfectly. See why I painted my kitchen cabinets in the middle of the kitchen renovation.

Now let's go back to talking about the GE Cafe appliances. The price point was in my budget, and when we held the cabinet hardware up to the Cafe gold, it was a perfect match. It was almost as if someone was telling me that these were the appliances meant for my kitchen.

First, we selected the range, which was easy because I currently had a gas top and oven. Since we eat at home 95% of the time and cook a lot, I wanted a range that suited me. The Cafe was perfect!

GE cafe range for french country kitchen

I originally wanted something hidden for the refrigerator, but I knew I needed a water filtration system, and all the hidden options required additional water filtration in a nearby cabinet. So I went with the GE Cafe french style fridge and then closed it in with my current cabinets.

Cottage country kitchen

We simply pulled the upper cabinet forward and built a wall down the side. It worked like a charm, and it is an elegant design, having the large gold handles on the fridge on that side of the room.

5. Maintaining the Traditional Country Atmosphere

Now, if you are wondering where my microwave is, well, way back in the beginning, when we decided to vent our exhaust fan through the roof, I pulled the microwave down and created a hidden microwave inside our small pantry.

Microwave pantry

Microwaves are not a traditional feature in a typical french country kitchen. Hiding modern-looking appliances helps keep the space in the character of french farmhouse kitchens.

We have a larger closet in the hall, which I am transforming into a vintage pantry, so we didn't need this small pantry for food. It is now the perfect place for a small appliance and dish pantry. Later I added our convection oven too.

Hidden microwave in small appliance pantry

Now that we have discussed decorating your french country kitchen with modern appliances let's get to the fun part: accessories and decorations.

6. Vintage Style Faucet

Consider an antique-looking faucet when planning your vintage kitchen, whether it is french, English, or any style.

Here is a modern version faucet that looks old. Our kitchen is a modern suburban kitchen. Adding this chrome faucet helps give it that antique kitchen of France look.

7. Rugs Bring it All Together

This is truly where the french country style takes form. To start, this kitchen needed a rug with colors to pull the blue range hood, white cabinet, and wall color together. I knew this would be the rug that gets the most washing, so I went with something inexpensive.

I found this McGee & Co rug at Target and I plan to pressure wash it about twice a year. We have had it down for over six months now, and it is time to give it a washing. LOL!

GE Cafe range in vintage style

8. French Country Kitchen Decorations

Next, let's talk about the decor pieces around the range. I wanted useful and practical decor in my cooking space. To the right of the stove, I added cutting boards to the wall, standing them up.

Then in front are our most used oils and a salt dish. And last, I added this adorable mini olive tree as a decoration. Items like these add sweet rustic elements. Everything around the stove has a purpose except for this little olive tree. LOL! It is just there for looks.

Vintage accessories in a kitchen

On the other side are two containers to hold wooden spoons, ladles, and rolling pins. The crock belonged to my husband's mother, who knows how old it is. It could have been her mother's because three generations lived in their house. And next to the crock is an old salt glaze pitcher I found at an antique shop locally. Antique shops and flea markets can be a treasure trove of vintage pieces like these.

Antique crock and salt glaze pitcher holding wooden spoons and rolling pin

Now over the stove, I thought this would be a great place to hang pots we use, but I wanted something pretty and useful, so I started shopping for copper pans.

The copper is hanging on an Ikea rod. When I picked it up, they didn't have copper color options, so I took some Behr spray paint in the color copper and painted it to match. It was an easy way to create the perfect french country design.

9. French Country Kitchen Accents

Our copper ladle on the dish rack by the sink is an antique piece I found locally that complements our french country decor. Since I don't plan to use it, I polished it up with Bar Keepers Friend, and it hangs as a decoration. You can find more ideas on decorating with copper accents here. And don't miss this post on how to keep your copper shiny the easy way. This brings us to more decorations.

This dish rack is the perfect spot for decor, and many items are useful too. I added my grandmother's Currier & Ives dishes to the top. Another salt glaze-type vintage pitcher to the shelf and then french country decorations underneath.

Small French country kitchen

Any rack where you can hang stuff is perfect for that french country kitchen vibe. I hung one of grandma's teacups, a mini basket I use to pick herbs outside, and candles. Rustic elements are perfect in a french country-style kitchen. Accessories warm up a space and add french country flair.

Fall fruit in wooden bowl

Next, a wooden bowl full of fruit and some vegetables are under the dish rack. Bowls and accessories made of natural materials are a great idea to maintain the french country decor. Again, this decoration is useful. I found the Target bowl, which is also a McGee piece.

Fruit in a wooden bowl and vintage accessories hanging from homemade plate rack

Conclusion

Well, that pretty much wraps up everything we did to the kitchen to give it that farmhouse french country vibe. Most of my home is a simple farmhouse style, but I love adding touches of curves and ornate decor to give a simple farmhouse french country look with a touch of rustic elegance.

If you want a video kitchen tour check out my YouTube video. I walk through the entire space and share the appliances, paint finishes, and vintage pieces belonging to family members.

Are you thinking of decorating in the french country style in your kitchen? I'd love to hear your french country kitchen ideas and how you bring European charm into your home.

Looking for beautiful free printable home decor? You're in luck! I've gathered some lovely designs that will look great in any room. So you'll find something to love here if you're looking to spruce up your living room, kitchen, bedroom, or any room.

Free printable home decor

For many years I looked for free printable home decor to add wall decor to my home. Probably my favorite thing to do was change my wall decor when I would get tired of something or it was a holiday.

When I started Life on Summerhill, I wanted to give back by creating free printable wall art to give away. After years of blogging, I now have many options. But the one thing I get asked is where do you find free printables, and what do I do with these printables now that I have one? Today I will show you the most popular free prints, where to find free printables, and how I use them to decorate your home.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Free Printable Home Decor

Let's discuss how you can access my print library and get a new free printable monthly. First, you must subscribe to my newsletter to access the library. Then once a month, I will email you a new print and place it in the library. Once you have access to the library, you are good to go. Anytime you want something new, you simply shop at the library link I send in the email. It's that simple!

Now let's look at some favorite prints in my library. These are my favorite and your favorites, too — meaning these are the most clicked-on prints.

1. Botanical Wall Hanging

Botanicals fit so many interior design styles and are perfect for decor year-round. You can use them in modern decor, farmhouse decor, cottage, and more. In my free printable library, I have botanicals to choose from. To see them all, simply subscribe to my newsletter.

But let's say you have printed one of the botanicals, and now what? Here is an idea for framing your botanical free download and placing it on your porch.

free printable of botanical wall art

There are three designs to choose from in the library, and if you want more, I have many more in my Etsy shop.

2. Vintage Landscapes

Another great free printable wall art idea is this vintage landscape. Any kind of landscape will work nicely in your home decor.

Vintage landscape free printable art

For this project, I simply took a clipboard and removed the clip that came with it. Then I cut the ends off using the printable to guide how much to cut. Last I used a fun gold clip and hot glued it on. Like magic, I now had a unique frame for my printable art.

Seasonal Free Printables

Next are seasonal prints, and we have all seasons covered. Here are two designs you can use for fall.

3. Autumn Free Printable Home Decor

This first one is a personal favorite and is a very popular design in the library. This watercolor mason jar filled with cotton looks pretty in any room of your home.

Free printable home decor

Another fun fall design is this watercolor pumpkin filled with flowers.

Another autumn free printable home decor piece is this printable where you cut out the flowers to use as a template to make a paper leaf garland. In another post, I have all the details on how to make the paper leaf garland.

4. Christmas Free Printable Decor

There are many fun things to print that are free under the Christmas section of my print library. One of the most printed printables are these Christmas tags and wrapping paper. They are so cute, and you can use them for many other things. Check out my Christmas DIY gift tags to get ideas for decorating with these tags.

Free printable holiday decor

And there is printable gift wrap paper too.

5. Valentines Free Prints

It is sad when Christmas is over, but all the Valentine free printables will make you feel happy again. One of our favorites is this gingerbread house with love written in many languages.

free printable Valentine decor

This Valentine's free printable wall art idea is simple to create and looks like you bought it at a boutique.

6. Spring Free Printables

Probably the most popular print in my library is this bunny print. So many people have shared fun ways they have used it, but my favorite was a mom who printed the design, and her kids wrote things they are thankful for on it.

Easter rabbit and vine printable

What a fun and cute idea. Instead of decorating with the print, she printed them and place them on the Easter Sunday table for them to write on.

7. Patriotic Free Printables

We love celebrating all the patriotic holidays with free printables. Another popular piece are these President silhouettes. This DIY president silhouette project makes the best holiday decorations, and the kids will love helping make them.

Free printable patriotic decor

Another favorite is this banner. All the designs are in the library to print on cardstock and cut out. The directions on how to make this patriotic banner are in this pennant banner template.

Pennant banner template

Now we have covered most of the major holidays and shared the most popular everyday prints, but there are many more inside the library. Remember to get access all you have to do is subscribe. Once you subscribe, you will get an email within minutes with a link to the library.

But if you want more free printables, here is my best advice for finding free printable home decor online.

Where can I find free printables?

When searching for the right piece, I use google images as a guide. Basically, I put into search what I am looking for, like “botanical free printables.” When I enter, I then select images. From here, I can see pictures of all the designs. Sometimes it shows me prints I have to purchase too, but it serves up free printables for the most part.

Another great resource for finding free printables is these sites:

Final Thoughts

Remember I used to decorate my home with free printables I would find on the web? Well, this was the cheapest and easiest way to change my art on bookcases, walls, over my mantel, sitting on tables, and so on. There are many ways you can frame printables, and I just happen to have a post on different ideas to frame printable art.

Last, if you do not find the style or the right piece for your home decor, head over to my Etsy shop, where I have over 200 designs. There are many more vintage art landscapes, bible verses and quotes, children's art, and many more botanicals.

Happy Decorating!

Today we are talking about decorating from thrift stores. We will discuss what to look for and other tips on what not to buy. Plus I will show you how to decorate with thrift store finds.

Decorating with thrift store finds

For over 30 years I have been decorating from thrift stores. You might be asking why would I shop at second-hand stores, restores, and so on.

Well, you can find decorations in these stores that no one else has. And you can find things for cheap to use for decorations or give it a new look with spray paint. So keep an open mind when you hit your local thrift store and you'll be amazed at the unique pieces you can find.

I have this rule when decorating. Mix old and new, inexpensive and expensive to give a room character without breaking the bank.

Now that you know my secret let's do some shopping and decorate with vintage thrift store finds. These ideas will help you the next time you go shopping.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Decorating from Thrift Stores

To begin here is a list of items to look for when shopping in thrift stores.

There are so many things you can look for when thrifting that you can use to decorate. And you can use thrift items for do-it-yourself projects too. Many of the pieces in my home will be items I found while shopping in second-hand stores or garage sales that I transformed to fit my decor style.

So, keep your eyes open when shopping and look for shapes and think about what they might look like in color or texture that matches your home's design. And also don't rule out antique stores or estate sales. Sometimes I find good deals on vintage pieces there, too.

Now let's get started shopping my home for ideas.

Thrift Store Books

Books are one of the easiest things to find in thrift shops and yard sales. They are versatile when decorating your home, there are so many different ways to use them. And they will come in handy when you need a decoration to be a little higher.

Decorating with vintage thrift store books

I used vintage books all over my house but here is one example where I show decorating a mantel for spring.

When shopping, if you see a pretty hardback book go ahead and buy it. You will be amazed at how many ways you can decorate with books. In fact, you will see books all through this post as we talk about other thrifted items.

Figurines and Statues from Thrift Stores

Decorating with thrifted statue

You can find so many adorable figurines when shopping at thrift stores. Look past the finish on them and consider spray painting them.

Thrifted dog statue

I have had this dog with his basket at my front door for years. He was one of my best finds. There is a spot just for him off to the side.

I love to add decorations to his basket for holidays as I did last autumn when I shared a fall front porch decorating idea. It is fun to decorate for holidays or simply place some flowers inside the basket.

Second-Hand Store Baskets

Old vintage hanging basket over a fireplace mantel

Baskets are another easy find at thrift stores. Before using a second hand wicker basket, check out my post on how to clean a wicker basket to give it a fresh start. Like books, baskets are a great piece to use when decorating. They add texture to your home decor which helps make all those solid surfaces feel cozier.

You can use baskets on bookcases, mantels and so much more. If you love your basket but want a different look, check out my post on how to paint a wicker basket. I love hanging wicker baskets around the house, too, as I did here on our mantel.

Basket full of white painted dollar store carved pumpkins and a fall blanket

Baskets are also great to use when decorating for holidays. I normally keep this old picnic basket on the bookcases in our dining room. But for this outdoor Halloween party, I used this basket to transport goods and then placed it on a chair for decorations.

Vintage Fabric and Linens

Tea party picnic with thrifted linens

One area that I am selective in when shopping in thrift stores is anything that has fabric on it. If I cannot bleach or sterilize it then I won't get it.

However, fabrics and linens are other great pieces to decorate with. I used an old vintage tea time tablecloth on the top of other blankets and tablecloths when we did a tea party picnic with my nieces.

Layered tea party picnic blankets and tablescloths

This teatime tablecloth actually belonged to my husband's mom but I see embroidered tablecloths all the time at thrift stores.

Thrift Store Clocks

Old clock from thrifted store

Clocks are another easy items to shop for when thrifting and they make wonderful decorations. Here is a photo of my mora clock. This piece came from an antique store in the UK that sent it to a store in America.

The whole story about this mora clock's journey is on my YouTube and on this antique mora clock post. But I wanted to share it to remind you that clocks are easy to decorate in your home. And they are easy to find when thrifting.

Restore Artwork

Vintage artwork found in a thrift store

If you really want to be unique in your home decor then look for old vintage artwork at thrift stores.

When decorating this antique vintage aesthetic bedroom my daughter found this piece of art in a local store. This store has booths rented by people who sell vintage and new items. There were many great finds that day like this wall decor.

Vintage or thrift shopping centers like these are a great way to shop for your home decor. After we got home we searched the internet and couldn't figure out anything about this piece except a printable you could purchase.

I would say we got a unique piece of art.

Thrift Store Old Windows

Decorating your mantel for spring

Windows are a hit-or-miss thrift store find. If you are looking for an old window to decorate with or to use for a DIY project look around at salvage yards where people drop off construction material.

Decorating with old windows is so much fun. Layer them on your mantel with art or use them for a DIY project like this mirror with shutters.

Decorating from thrift stores

Flee Market Candleholder

Candlestick holders on mantel

Candleholders can be pretty brass candlestick holders or vintage bottles and bases like we used on our man-in-the-moon Halloween mantel.

You can use candle holders to hold candles simply as a decoration without a candle. They look well staggered on books and sitting next to books.

Christmas candles on a mantel

I love to use them during the holidays in our decorations but they also sit out year-round with my everyday home decor items.

When shopping for used candle holders look at all the places I have mentioned and flea markets.

Vintage Crocks and Pots

Old vintage crock on a mantel for spring decorations

I seriously love crocks and pots to decorate with. It seems like thrifting crocks is a hit or miss. Sometimes I find them here and there and then I will go months without seeing one.

Old crocks can be pricey so if you find one at a garage sale for under 15 dollars, go ahead and grab it.

Also, look for galvanized buckets. They make for fun decorations as I did here on our front porch.

Galvanized bucket found while thrift shopping

You can use galvanized buckets like baskets. Simply place them around as a decoration, add flowers to them like I did on our Valentine porch decor ideas, or use them for storage.

Lamps

Vintage lamp

Here is one area where you can save and that is lamps. You will find lamps all over, from goodwill to garage sales and co-ops. Like so many thrifted items look past the ugly finish and think about what it will look like painted.

This milk glass lamp we found at a thrift store mall in our town. It didn't have a lampshade so that was the only thing we had to do to it.

Keep in mind when shopping for second-hand lamps to look at the cords carefully. Make sure there is no exposed wiring. I don't recommend using it if the wiring is damaged.

Chamber lamp or oil lamp found in a thrift store

Another great lamp to look for and decorate with is chamber lamps or oil lamps. They also look beautiful as a table centerpiece as I did here on our Thanksgiving table.

easy Thanksgiving fall tablescape

Mirrors

Old mirror found in a thrift store and painted white

Decorating with thrift store mirrors is easy. Look for large and small sizes.

I used this large mirror in our small bedroom to make it feel larger. I simply painted the frame a fresh creamy white color over a dark bronze color so it would match the room better. A little paint can change the whole feel of a piece.

End Tables

Antique table

Any furniture is good to look for when thrifting. Here is an end table we used between two chairs in our living room. This table is solid wood with a leather inlay on the top.

Old Benches

sisal rug with white bemcj

Decorating with thrift store benches is so fun. This bench in our entryway is actually a twin bed converted into a bench. I have to be honest and let you know that I rescued it from a friend who was going to trash it because the front feet had rotted but the rest of it was in good condition.

So I brought it home, gave it new feet, and a fresh coat of paint and now it lives in my entryway. It was the perfect piece in the perfect place.

PS: when we talk about chairs remember that the feet I used came from the chair.

Vintage bench made from twin beds

If you are handy with tools then consider buying a twin bed and making a bench like this one. Or, if you are lucky, maybe you can find one already made.

Our bench gets lots of seasonal and holiday decorations too like this spring farmhouse decor idea.

Chairs

Windsor chair thrifted and painted white with milk paint

Chairs are easy to find at thrift stores but the hard part is finding the number of chairs you will need that are identical. This Windsor chair I saved from the side of the road.

Thrifted white windsor chair painted white

I found two identical chairs but both were wounded. So I took the parts from one chair and repaired the other chair.

Then I painted it with milk paint and now I have the perfect desk chair in our guest room.

I have detailed instructions on how to paint with milk paint if you find a chair you love and want to paint it.

Buffet

Antique buffet

Finding the exact buffet you have envisioned for your home decor can be a challenge to find at thrift stores. But it can be done.

Here is our buffet which has a matching china cabinet. We didn't find ours at a thrift store but instead found it stored away at my mother-in-law's house. It was sitting behind a pile of other storage items in a storeroom.

So you might say shopping at relatives' houses is another form of thrifting. LOL!

China Cabinets and Hutch

Gold leaf heart garland

This is probably one of my favorite thrift store finds. Years ago when we added to our house I knew I wanted a hutch just like the one in the Andy Griffith show.

I would stop at every thrift store when traveling and one day while driving down to the coast, my daughter and I found this one in a thrift store. It's the perfect example of what you can find with a little patience.

Vintage inspired decor

This hutch has been very useful for storage and I love decorating it for holidays too by adding garlands like this handmade pom pom garland and handmade clay heart garland in the first photo.

Dining Tables from Used Furniture Stores

Vintage tables

We have two dining tables in our house. The one in the buffet photo is thrifted except for the chairs which came from my mother-in-law's house too.

But I wanted to show you this one because you can easily find this style in thrift stores. I see tables all the time and you can put mix-matched chairs with them and benches. Your table doesn't have to have matching dining room chairs.

Also, consider decorating your table with centerpieces, either holiday designs or everyday designs.

Bookcase from Thrift Stores

Bookcase filled with books for a cottagecore bedroom

Bookcases are another great find at thrift stores and also on the Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. You can fill your bookcase with books or decorate them. We did a little of both in my niece's Cottagecore's decorated bedroom.

Decorating with Cutting Boards and Breadboards

Cutting board and bread board

I love decorating with second-hand cutting boards and breadboards. Also, consider cheese boards when shopping in thrift stores.

You can hang wooden boards for decorations as I did her. I added this metal silhouette to the front to make it more like a piece of art when I was sharing Cottagecore decor ideas.

Also, consider changing out the front decoration with holiday decor like a sprig of pine greenery at Christmas.

Decorating with Vintage Dishes

Vintage dishes

Dishes are easy to find when second-hand shopping and make for beautiful decorations. These vintage dishes are my grandma's but I find Currier and Ives dishes all the time in used stores.

Also, consider bringing new life to old dishes like this teacup candle I made from an old teacup.

Teacup candle made from thrift store tea cup

Pitchers

Decorating with pitchers is like decorating with crocks. Finding old handcrafted pitchers is such a treat and they add character to your home decor.

how to organize your kitchen

This salt-glazed handcrafted pitcher was found in an antique shop. I paid a little more than I usually would but it was the perfect piece to cozy up my kitchen and hold all my wooden spoons.

I share more photos of this in our kitchen and kitchen zone organizing. You will find other thrift store items to use when organizing.

Decorating with Old Vases

Vintage accessories on wall shelves

Really old vases make great decorations. Look on this shelf in my daughter's room at the tiny little amber glass vase. Little or large vintage vases can hold flowers or stand alone as a decoration.

Thrift Store Jars and Canisters Decorations

Jar of buttons and a mushroom sitting on top a stack of books

When decorating with thrift store items look for jars and canisters for storage or as a decoration like this mason jar filled with buttons.

There are so many things you can place inside jars to add to your home decor. Consider shells, buttons, old letters, and more.

Vintage Bottles to Decorate your Home

Vintage bottles and jars in front of a sea oil painting sitting on shelves

There are many ways you can decorate with thrift bottles. You can place them in a set like on this shelf. Fill them with potpourri or convert one to a candle holder.

Simply place a taper candle into the top of the jar. You may have to shave a little off around the bottom and twist it down to make it snug.

Once you have some bottles add them to your bookcases, and end tables and consider placing them on your dining table as a centerpiece.

Tray Decorating from Thrift Stores

Vintage tea party decorating ideas

Trayscaping is very popular now so add trays to your thrift store shopping list. You can use old trays for picnics as we did on our tea party picnic. Consider using them on coffee tables, your dining table, or as a decoration on your bed after you make it.

If you add one to your bed it will be useful when you get in bed and read. Especially if you don't have room for a nightstand.

They also look good hanging on walls like I did here over our range in our kitchen.

Thrift store tray decoration over a range

Vintage Architectural Pieces

Decorating with architectural pieces

Decorating with architectural pieces is a great way to add texture and an interesting story to your home decor. Look on the bottom shelf of this bookcase. This piece of decorative trim came from an old city hall that was demolished.

I bought this piece of trim in my favorite antique store in Franklin, North Carolina. City Farmhouse has lots of great finds. Kimberly, the owner, also has several great books on decorating with vintage decor. I share more about her book in my interior design books for beginners.

Light Fixtures

vintage light fixture

We have two rooms that have used light fixtures in our house. In our guest bathroom is an early 1900's light that came out of my grandma's house. In our foyer are two matching hanging lights, that I spray painted, that I found at second-hand stores.

The one that belonged to my grandma I had to have rewired because the wiring was not safe. Don't forget to check the wiring and have it replaced if it is damaged.

Wreaths

Paint colors at Life on Summerhill

I do not have much success finding good wreaths in thrift stores. But I do like to find things I can make wreaths out of like this child's bike wheel.

This project was much easier than it looks. Learn more about how to make a bicycle wheel wreath.

Holiday Decor

vintage farmhouse Christmas table decorations

As you probably already know, shopping in thrift stores for holiday decorations is a must. I find all kinds of pretty things I can use when decorating at Christmas and other holidays.

On our Christmas tablescape, I used an old toolbox to decorate the table. This centerpiece is so easy and I have all the details in this vintage farmhouse Christmas table post.

Thrift store jack o lanterns painted white and gold

Here is another example of using thrift store finds to decorate for Halloween. I used dollar store and thrift store Jack-o'-lanterns for this table. I share this DIY Halloween decoration using Jack-o'-lanterns on the blog also.

Conclusion

If you surf around my blog posts you will find loads and loads more thrift store decorating ideas. Remember thrift store finds will make your decorations look more interesting. With a little creativity they are also fun DIY projects and the best part is, most of the time they are cheap.

Give your home decor more character and add old vintage thrift store items to your decorations. They look so pretty next to new decorations. And don't forget about online thrifting like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist.

Another place I often look for vintage items is Etsy or eBay. Most everything is shipped to you so figure in the shipping when you order.

Now it is your turn. Do you love thrifting? If so, what are your favorite thrift store finds? Happy shopping!

These porch ceiling ideas will help you plan your new porch ceiling or redesign your old one. We will walk through different styles of porch ceilings to help you make your decision.

Porch ceiling ideas

With warmer weather here it is time to get outside and freshen up our porches. This is a great time to give your porch ceiling a fresh coat of paint or a whole new look.

An often overlooked design element, these porch ceiling ideas will help you plan a new or soon to be improved porch ceiling. Whether you have a screened porch or an open porch, a beautifully finished ceiling is a great way to make the area feel complete.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Porch Ceiling Ideas

In all my years of designing homes, I found that the ceiling of a covered porch seems to be the one area that is most overlooked. Think of the ceiling as a fifth wall and treat it with as much attention as everything else. I want to share with you the best porch ceiling ideas.

Okay now, let's do some brainstorming on all the porch ceiling ideas for your front porch ceiling, back porch ceiling, outbuilding ceiling, and so on.

What can I use for outdoor porch ceiling?

  • Shiplap
  • Beadboard
  • Painted Wood
  • Stained Wood
  • Tin Roofing
  • Vinyl
  • Clear

Shop porch ceiling building materials:

Now that we have a list of ideas let's look at photos of different woods, painted and stained.

Beadboard Porch Ceiling

This is our back porch and when we were designing this space I wanted something authentic meaning real wood. I love the old southern style of blue porches and beadboard ceilings so I thought this is the perfect spot for that look.

Ceiling Back Porch Idea

A while back I wrote about popular haint blue porch ceiling colors. I have loads more photos of the porch ceiling painted in sky blue colors. But for our porch, I wanted that feeling of height and the illusion of a blue ceiling that will give you just that.

A popular choice, the beadboard ceiling was very easy to install. It comes in larger sheets so we simply place the board up and nailed them into studs. It was as simple as that but creates an elegant look.

Next is my friend Sara who has another haint blue ceiling porch with beadboard on her front porch.

Haint blue porch ceiling idea

This will give you an idea of what an open porch area looks like with a beadboard ceiling. Isn't Sara's porch so wonderful!

She is all-the-time decorating her porch and has the prettiest flowers around her front door. If you get a chance go check out her Instagram at simplysoutherncottage.

Shiplap Porch Ceiling Idea

Next is shiplap because it is similar to beadboard except the boards are wider. This is my friend Jennifer's front porch. Isn't it lovely!

Shiplap ceiling porch

When they designed their porch she wanted the traditional southern farmhouse shiplap design.

Her home is so pretty and she has loads and loads of photos on her Farmhousewifey Instagram. She also shares lots of home decor tips.

But they used an exterior shiplap material for their porch ceiling and then painted it Alabaster by Sherwin Williams.

Painted Wood Ceiling

Next, let's look at other painted wood porch ceiling ideas.

There are so many colors to choose from when selecting paint colors for your exterior. I have made that process easier by narrowing down the most popular Sherwin Williams exterior paint colors in another blog post.

But today let's look at one example of a porch painted wooden ceiling in a neutral color.

Painted beige wood porch ceiling

If you love rustic farmhouses then you will adore my friend Beth's house and porch. Her home would make the most wonderful bed and breakfast.

Her porch ceiling is constructed with T1-11 with a beadboard design. By using wood tones it looks stained and finishes the whole look. But if you look closely it is actually painted a beige color creating a beautiful rustic look.

I love how it turned out. It fits the style of her home perfectly!

Remember if you love rustic farmhouse decor then go check her out on her Instagram at shady_pines3interiors.

Stained Wood Porch Ceiling

Now if you love stained wood then you will love this porch ceiling idea. Look at my friend Alieta's porch. Don't you love her ceiling?

This is a great example of a stained wood porch ceiling. These are shiplap boards stained.

She is always decorating her porch with ideas that you will love on her Instagram at alietatreasurehunting and website at Alieta Treasure Hunting.

Stained wood porch ceiling idea

And what do you think about her pink door?

She has managed to pick just the right shade of pink. Front porches are the first thing people see when they come to your home and a beautiful porch adds to your home’s curb appeal.

This front door creates a lovely focal point and creates visual interest. You can find out more about her door in my popular front door paint colors post.

Here is the other side of her porch, with a lovely seating area and gorgeous stone pillars, to see how amazing her ceiling turned out.

Stained porch ceiling idea

Tin Roofing Porch Ceiling

Next, let's talk about tin roof porch ceiling ideas. I have two ideas and it just happens that they both are beautifully decorated. First, here is my friend Donna on Instagram at gramsfarmhouse.

She has the coziest outdoor space with a tin roof over it and string lights. This is a fabulous example of a tin roof porch in an outdoor living space. I can imagine sweet, intimate dinner parties on this porch.

Take a moment to look at all her farmhouse decorations. This unique look is so pretty and inviting!

tin roof porch ceiling ideas

A while ago I shared fall porch decor ideas and my friend Chyvonne's outbuilding was featured. This small shed in her backyard is another perfect example of a tin roof porch ceiling.

Isn't it adorable! I love this photo and all her decorations!

Shed porch ceiling ideas using tin roofing

Tin is such a great porch ceiling material. Basically, if your porch has a tin roof, it's a good idea to leave the space between the ceiling joists open and let that beautiful tin roof shine. There are limitless cool porch ceiling designs possible.

If you have room for a hammock on your porch, add one because the best soft rainy day naps on a porch are the ones with tin roofs.

If you love Chyvonne's decorated shed and outdoor area then check her out on her Instagram at burlapandrust.

Vinyl Porch Ceiling Idea

Now let's talk about vinyl porch ceilings. Our house is brick and vinyl so when the builder built our house he put vinyl beadboard on the ceiling on the front porch.

Vinyl porch ceiling idea

The beauty of vinyl is its longevity. It's one of the best inexpensive porch ceiling ideas. It washes up nicely and you don't have to do any touch-up painting. However, did you know you can paint vinyl?

If you want color on your vinyl porch ceiling you can paint it a different color. It's a great way to change up the look of your porch ceiling. We have never painted ours but I have had many clients' vinyl ceilings painted.

On our porch, we kept it that crisp wonderful white color. I love how they gave it a tongue and grove farmhouse wood look.

Clear Porch Ceiling Idea

Next on our agenda is a clear porch ceiling idea. Wait until you see this beauty!

Rachel and her hubby built her a greenhouse during the pandemic all by themselves. Can you believe that? I think that is wonderful!

Look at how pretty her greenhouse turned out.

Clear porch ceiling idea

They used polycarbonate roofing panels in clear. This is a perfect roof for a greenhouse and porch but it would also be amazing on a pergola or any kind of porch. This simple look can give the illusion of more space if you have low ceilings. Especially if you want something that lets the natural light in.

If you want to see more beautiful photos of her greenhouse, click on Rachel's greenhouse to see or check her out on Instagram at rachel_thepondsfarmhouse.

Well, guess what? We have come to an end to my best recommendations of porch ceiling ideas.

Final Thoughts

Now that we have taken a tour of my friend's porches and looked at their ceilings do you have a favorite? It is so hard to decide when you are planning your porch design. There are a lot of considerations when choosing the right kind of ceiling material for your home.

I am currently helping my sister work on a remodel of my parent's old house. You can see all about it in my Instagram stories highlight called Roe House.

Guess what we are working on right now? You guessed it — her porch ceiling.

Since we live in the south we are thinking of doing a haint blue porch ceiling and, if my memory serves me correctly, it has exposed wooden beams so I think it would be nice to leave them white.

Okay, now it is your turn. What porch ceiling idea do you like the most and why?

I am so glad you stopped by to visit and I hope you have found this blog post helpful!

Happy Decorating!

A child's room is a special place to decorate because it is where imagination blossoms and creativity is born. So I thought it would be fun to bring you little girl wall decor ideas to make your decorating journey easier.

Little girl wall decor ideas

These little girl wall decor ideas will make planning and decorating our sweet girl's room even easier.

Recently, I shared how to decorate a toddler girl's bedroom. I walked you through step by step how to make the perfect room for a little girl. And before that, I shared how to make a rainbow accent wall for a girl's bedroom.

But today let's take this decorating journey even further and give you ideas for decorating the walls and a shopping guide.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Little Girl Wall Decor Ideas

Now here is a list of what to purchase or make to decorate the walls of your little girl's room. You do not have to shop for every item. This is simply an idea list for planning and shopping. I think you'll find some great ideas!

Also, I bring ideas for a girly bedroom design plan in a rainbow theme. But you can use any color scheme or style for your room. Simply use this as a variety of things you can use to decorate their walls.

What to Buy When Decorating The Walls In A Little Girl's Room

  • Wall art: Look for wall art that fits your color scheme and style but most of all that is fun for your little girl. If money is tight, it's a great idea to look at printables on Etsy for fun ideas.)
  • Garlands: You can buy garlands at stores or hand-crafted ones on Etsy but I love making my own. I have many tutorials on how to make garlands but my favorite is this pom pom garland DIY.
  • Clocks: I love wall clocks when it comes to decorating. There are many adorable wall clocks for little girls' rooms. I have a post on large wall clock decorating that will give you more ideas.
  • Shelves: Shelves are a great way to fill up a wall, create storage and add more decorations.
  • Wallpaper or decals: You can easily create an accent wall with wallpaper and decals. Or you can make your own. You can find large murals like this rainbow on the internet.
  • Personalized Decor (monogram or letters): Monogram wall art made from metal and wood look great in the kids' room. Also, look at Etsy for customized art for their room. We have some in our Etsy shop.
  • Mirrors: Mirrors look so pretty in the children's room. Make sure it is out of reach and secure for safety reasons.
  • Picture frames: I love using large picture frames to frame their artwork or add photos of the family.
  • Chalkboards: Here is a DIY chalkboard post where I show you how to make a chalkboard. This one would be so cute in this room.
  • Hanging basket with flowers: Another beautiful way to add decor to a child's room is a hanging basket filled with flowers.

Now that we have a few ideas to look for, let me make your life even simpler. We have pulled together a collection to make your online little girl room shopping more fun.

Best Ideas for Little Girl's Wall Decor

Shop all these precious decorations by simply tapping the image below.

Now let's talk a little about several of these decorations

Little Girl's Room Focal Point Decoration

I like to begin thinking about anchoring a bedroom with something big. It can be a large mural like I used in my niece's bedroom. It's a great addition that brightens the whole room.

Little girl bedroom decor on a budget

We painted this rainbow mural on the wall but you can purchase them too like this one from Pottery Barn Kids.

But it doesn't have to be wall art or a mural that anchors your little girl's bedroom. A bed with a canopy can be the focal point. However, if you do not have a bed with a tall headboard or canopy then a mural or large piece of wall art featuring her favorite color will help create that focal point.

Another way to create a focal point is by adding wallpaper to one wall. A fun idea is a vintage cottage little girl wallpaper. Think soft in color and delicate, possibly a floral wallpaper. This wallpaper will make a peaceful-looking accent wall. Read on for more little girl room decor ideas!

Little Girl Shelf Wall Decor Idea

Another wall décor idea is wall shelves with decorations. We did this idea in my niece's bedroom also but it can be easily designed for any child's bedroom.

Little girls room wall decor ideas with shelves

We added a shelf to the design plan for this cottage-style child's bedroom in the photo above. It's the perfect place to add decorations like her favorite books, baskets, plants, plush toys, and decorative elements and you have another idea for her walls.

Shelf with decorations in a kids bedroom

Little Girl's Room Gallery Wall

Last is a gallery wall for your little girl's bedroom. This is where you can pull together different pieces to make up one wall design. But you might be asking what is a gallery wall.

A gallery wall is a set of decorations placed together on all walls to make up a bigger design on the wall.

You can use art, clocks, baskets, monograms, or pom pom garlands like this one I hung on my niece's mirror in her rainbow bedroom. Or you could get some DIY letters at your local craft store or local dollar store. You can create the perfect combination of store bought and creative DIY. Little details like this in her favorite colors are a fantastic way to make her room special.

Pom pom garland hanging on a mirror in a kids room

I have a step-by-step tutorial on how to hang a gallery wall. This easy tutorial will help you design one for your little girl's room. And I have directions on how to make pom pom garlands too.

Printable Wall Art for Little Girl's Room

I know I said the gallery wall idea was our last idea but I just remembered one more. This one is my favorite way to get unique wall decor for any room and that is printable wall art on Etsy.

This is a little designer secret. Etsy is full of prints from digital downloads created by graphic designers to beautiful art pieces that you can download. You're sure to find the perfect choice for her bedroom walls.

My daughter, who is a graphic design major, and I have a wall art printable Etsy shop and it is full of art from kid's room to vintage prints. It's a great place you are going to love shopping here because the prints are so cheap and there are many fun designs.

It is very easy to plan printables for your little girl's room decorations. Simply download the print to your computer. Then print on a piece of paper and frame. You can use printables in different sizes or the same size.

If you want a large piece as we used in my niece's bedroom you will need to send the downloaded file to a print shop and they will print it.

Printable wall art for little girls room

Your best bet is to go use a shop like Walgreens and OfficeMax to print printables. It is so amazing! The best part is it looks like you have spent so much money when actually it is cheap.

Also, don't forget, it's a good idea to search for coupons online when you order your print. It's a simple way to save you even more money.

The most expensive part about printable wall art is the frame. We save here by shopping frames at Walmart. They have upped their game lately on decorations. I love shopping there! You can create a unique look on a budget.

Final Thoughts

Now that we have created a design plan for a little girl's room I am dying to decorate. It's so much fun! I mean seriously can you imagine how cute this room will look?

I can just picture a wallpaper accent wall with this pastel delicate pattern of flowers and stripes or a rainbow. Or a bed with a canopy over it.

One wall with two large printables from our Etsy shop of the letter art or scripture art.

A wall with shelves that fill up the wall. Filled with books towards the bottom and decorations on the top. Oh, this would be so pretty!

My other niece needs her bedroom decorated. I am thinking maybe I should make another trip and do a room makeover. What do you think?

And what about you? Do you have a little girl who is ready for a change? I would love to hear your little girl wall decor ideas.

Happy Decorating!
