A child's room is a special place to decorate because it is where imagination blossoms and creativity is born. So I thought it would be fun to bring you little girl wall decor ideas to make your decorating journey easier.

Little girl wall decor ideas

These little girl wall decor ideas will make planning and decorating our sweet girl's room even easier.

Recently, I shared how to decorate a toddler girl's bedroom. I walked you through step by step how to make the perfect room for a little girl. And before that, I shared how to make a rainbow accent wall for a girl's bedroom.

But today let's take this decorating journey even further and give you ideas for decorating the walls and a shopping guide.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Little Girl Wall Decor Ideas

Now here is a list of what to purchase or make to decorate the walls of your little girl's room. You do not have to shop for every item. This is simply an idea list for planning and shopping. I think you'll find some great ideas!

Also, I bring ideas for a girly bedroom design plan in a rainbow theme. But you can use any color scheme or style for your room. Simply use this as a variety of things you can use to decorate their walls.

What to Buy When Decorating The Walls In A Little Girl's Room

  • Wall art: Look for wall art that fits your color scheme and style but most of all that is fun for your little girl. If money is tight, it's a great idea to look at printables on Etsy for fun ideas.)
  • Garlands: You can buy garlands at stores or hand-crafted ones on Etsy but I love making my own. I have many tutorials on how to make garlands but my favorite is this pom pom garland DIY.
  • Clocks: I love wall clocks when it comes to decorating. There are many adorable wall clocks for little girls' rooms. I have a post on large wall clock decorating that will give you more ideas.
  • Shelves: Shelves are a great way to fill up a wall, create storage and add more decorations.
  • Wallpaper or decals: You can easily create an accent wall with wallpaper and decals. Or you can make your own. You can find large murals like this rainbow on the internet.
  • Personalized Decor (monogram or letters): Monogram wall art made from metal and wood look great in the kids' room. Also, look at Etsy for customized art for their room. We have some in our Etsy shop.
  • Mirrors: Mirrors look so pretty in the children's room. Make sure it is out of reach and secure for safety reasons.
  • Picture frames: I love using large picture frames to frame their artwork or add photos of the family.
  • Chalkboards: Here is a DIY chalkboard post where I show you how to make a chalkboard. This one would be so cute in this room.
  • Hanging basket with flowers: Another beautiful way to add decor to a child's room is a hanging basket filled with flowers.

Now that we have a few ideas to look for, let me make your life even simpler. We have pulled together a collection to make your online little girl room shopping more fun.

Best Ideas for Little Girl's Wall Decor

Shop all these precious decorations by simply tapping the image below.

Now let's talk a little about several of these decorations

Little Girl's Room Focal Point Decoration

I like to begin thinking about anchoring a bedroom with something big. It can be a large mural like I used in my niece's bedroom. It's a great addition that brightens the whole room.

Little girl bedroom decor on a budget

We painted this rainbow mural on the wall but you can purchase them too like this one from Pottery Barn Kids.

But it doesn't have to be wall art or a mural that anchors your little girl's bedroom. A bed with a canopy can be the focal point. However, if you do not have a bed with a tall headboard or canopy then a mural or large piece of wall art featuring her favorite color will help create that focal point.

Another way to create a focal point is by adding wallpaper to one wall. A fun idea is a vintage cottage little girl wallpaper. Think soft in color and delicate, possibly a floral wallpaper. This wallpaper will make a peaceful-looking accent wall. Read on for more little girl room decor ideas!

Little Girl Shelf Wall Decor Idea

Another wall décor idea is wall shelves with decorations. We did this idea in my niece's bedroom also but it can be easily designed for any child's bedroom.

Little girls room wall decor ideas with shelves

We added a shelf to the design plan for this cottage-style child's bedroom in the photo above. It's the perfect place to add decorations like her favorite books, baskets, plants, plush toys, and decorative elements and you have another idea for her walls.

Shelf with decorations in a kids bedroom

Little Girl's Room Gallery Wall

Last is a gallery wall for your little girl's bedroom. This is where you can pull together different pieces to make up one wall design. But you might be asking what is a gallery wall.

A gallery wall is a set of decorations placed together on all walls to make up a bigger design on the wall.

You can use art, clocks, baskets, monograms, or pom pom garlands like this one I hung on my niece's mirror in her rainbow bedroom. Or you could get some DIY letters at your local craft store or local dollar store. You can create the perfect combination of store bought and creative DIY. Little details like this in her favorite colors are a fantastic way to make her room special.

Pom pom garland hanging on a mirror in a kids room

I have a step-by-step tutorial on how to hang a gallery wall. This easy tutorial will help you design one for your little girl's room. And I have directions on how to make pom pom garlands too.

Printable Wall Art for Little Girl's Room

I know I said the gallery wall idea was our last idea but I just remembered one more. This one is my favorite way to get unique wall decor for any room and that is printable wall art on Etsy.

This is a little designer secret. Etsy is full of prints from digital downloads created by graphic designers to beautiful art pieces that you can download. You're sure to find the perfect choice for her bedroom walls.

My daughter, who is a graphic design major, and I have a wall art printable Etsy shop and it is full of art from kid's room to vintage prints. It's a great place you are going to love shopping here because the prints are so cheap and there are many fun designs.

It is very easy to plan printables for your little girl's room decorations. Simply download the print to your computer. Then print on a piece of paper and frame. You can use printables in different sizes or the same size.

If you want a large piece as we used in my niece's bedroom you will need to send the downloaded file to a print shop and they will print it.

Printable wall art for little girls room

Your best bet is to go use a shop like Walgreens and OfficeMax to print printables. It is so amazing! The best part is it looks like you have spent so much money when actually it is cheap.

Also, don't forget, it's a good idea to search for coupons online when you order your print. It's a simple way to save you even more money.

The most expensive part about printable wall art is the frame. We save here by shopping frames at Walmart. They have upped their game lately on decorations. I love shopping there! You can create a unique look on a budget.

Final Thoughts

Now that we have created a design plan for a little girl's room I am dying to decorate. It's so much fun! I mean seriously can you imagine how cute this room will look?

I can just picture a wallpaper accent wall with this pastel delicate pattern of flowers and stripes or a rainbow. Or a bed with a canopy over it.

One wall with two large printables from our Etsy shop of the letter art or scripture art.

A wall with shelves that fill up the wall. Filled with books towards the bottom and decorations on the top. Oh, this would be so pretty!

My other niece needs her bedroom decorated. I am thinking maybe I should make another trip and do a room makeover. What do you think?

And what about you? Do you have a little girl who is ready for a change? I would love to hear your little girl wall decor ideas.

Happy Decorating!

Let's talk about cottagecore bedroom ideas to create the perfect aesthetic for your room. I will share all the details of how we transformed my niece's bedroom into a dreamy retreat right in her own home.

Cottagecore bedroom ideas

Once upon a time, I wrote about Cottagecore decorating, and to my surprise, many people have loved it. After helping my niece decorate her bedroom in this style, I thought you might love a tour and appreciate some cottagecore bedroom ideas.

This is a tour to see all her cottagecore bedroom ideas. And when done, you can create a dreamy retreat too.

Now let's take a tour of her room. Then I will share designer tips and tricks so you can create a cozy cottage feel in your bedroom.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Cottagecore Bedroom Ideas

A cottagecore bedroom design is more than color, style, and combination of textures. In my cottagecore decor ideas post, I explain how it creates a mood and feeling. An idealized life in the country.

So when planning this style of room, you want to use traditional design elements. But you want to create a scene or stage using cottagecore room decor.

The first place to begin when designing your Cottagecore bedroom is to decide on your exact core aesthetic. For my niece's room, we went with a vintage aesthetic.

Cottagecore Bedroom Checklist

I want to start by sharing my cottagecore bedroom checklist. This list is a great place to start when creating any bedroom but this time, I added more details to create this idealized space.

When shopping for your bedroom, look for vintage items or antique furniture at thrift stores, second-hand stores, garage sales, and grandma's attic – with her permission, of course. Also, look at regular stores for items that have a vintage look.

When I first married my husband his mom had an attic full of decor. The house they lived in was her parent's before her. It was an old late 1800s house. You can imagine how old some of the items were in the attic.

It also helped that she kept everything. I even found a bureau mirror frame in the attic. It now sits in my house with a chalkboard inside, and I share how to make this easy handmade chalkboard.

Now that we have a checklist of items we need in this room, let's take a tour so I can walk you through how to create a cottagecore bedroom for your home.

Cottagecore Bed Decorations

I like to recommend starting with the largest item in the room when it comes to decorating. And I usually encourage you to pick out an inspiration piece to base all your colors and style, but, in this case, we are focusing on natural materials, fabrics, and neutral colors to fit the nostalgic look so I suggested linen and cotton for the texture of the bedding.

Linen duvet over with paisley throw folded at the end of the a bed in a cottagecore bedroom

So we went with neutral colors with a paisley design throw folded neatly at the foot of the bed. Floral patterns would have also worked well. Then we tossed a sham to match at the top and included some throw pillows.

Accent pillows on a bed in a cottage core bedroom

Layering accent pillows can make an ordinary bed extraordinary and give the room a cozy feel.

LInen bedding in a Cottage core bedroom

But the icing on the cake for this bed is the leafy vines that run around the top of the canopy. Adding all this greenery began the journey into that idealized bedroom.

Leafy vines wrapped around a canopy bed in a Cottage style bedroom

Now that we have the bed in place with the perfect cottagecore charm, let's place the furniture around the room and I will explain why we chose each piece and its placement.

Vintage Furniture for a Cottagecore Bedroom

Our first mission was to find nightstands that would fit our cottagecore look.

Vintage Nightstands

This is where we got lucky because as I started decorating this room I started asking if they had any other old pieces of furniture around the house we could use in my niece's bedroom. And you will not believe it when I tell you that this beautiful bureau was tucked inside of a closet. What good news!

Antique bureau used as a nightstand in a Cottagecore bedroom

It was the perfect piece to act as a nightstand, add storage, and fit the cozy cottage look.

Next, we needed something on the other side of the bed, and since my niece loves to read, we borrowed this bookcase from their old playroom. Again, it had that vintage vibe, and what says cozy more than a bookcase filled with books?

Bookcase filled with books for a teenagers cottagecore bedroom

Cottagecore Reading Nooks

Just in case you are wondering why I made nooks plural let me show you why.

First, there just happens to be the perfect little reading nook in this bedroom. My niece has a room with a dormer window and it has hanging chair written all over it. LOL! The natural lighting here could not be more perfect.

Hanging chair in a reading nook in a teenagers cottagecore bedroom

If you have a nook anywhere in your bedroom, consider making it into a cozy reading niche. But since my niece loves to read and had this other beautiful chair we thought two reading spaces would be fun.

So we found this wicker drum and anchored the chair by the bookcase to give her a second cozy spot. Wicker baskets go wonderfully with the cottagecore decor and offer additional storage. It's a lovely spot for a good book and cup of tea.

Vintage Armoire for Storage

Last is this armoire which is one of her favorite pieces of furniture. It belonged to her daddy.

She loves it mostly because of all the drawers and compartments inside. It was the perfect piece to fit into her cozy cottage vibe.

Antique armoire in a cottage style bedroom

So we turned it into the corner next to the chair but what we did on top is where we combined imagination with accessories.

Now let's talk about accessories. This is where this cottagecore aesthetic will take hold with wall decor and decorations.

Cottagecore Wall Decor

Now we are starting to get down to the good stuff, and that is all the wall decor.

Remember me saying this is an idealized space? Here are a few ways you can make that happen on your walls.

First, use mirrors with frames like the period you are trying to recreate. My niece has this ornate vintage mirror nestled perfectly next to her armoire. Adding mirrors will double your room space and make it feel larger or, in some instances, give it more charm and sparkle.

Gothic mirror decoration for a Cottagecore bedroom

Second, make a gallery wall of decor that gives the room the feeling you are going for.

Gallery wall in a Cottage core bed room

We pulled together some of my niece's favorite things like lavender, dried flowers, butterflies, and some of her art to make a cottagecore gallery wall. Floral prints would also work well. Thrift stores are a great resource for decor. Check out my post with the best decorating ideas from thrift stores. You can also check out my post about my free printable wall art.

Frog art and butterflies in a cottagecore bedroom

Third, look for wall art such as larger vintage art or posters, in our situation, that gives the vibe you love. We simply tacked them to the wall. As she changes her mind, she can easily change out her posters.

Poster art

Fourth are shelves. Shelves are a great way to get the cottagecore look because you will fill them with many wonderful smaller decorations or traditional crafts. We added shelves over her bookcase and another handmade bookshelf in her reading nook.

Shelves filled with decorations to get a cottagecore aesthetic

And last, since she loves to play the guitar and ukelele, we decided they were perfect for wall decor, and it gave them a great place to store them. There was just enough wall space on each side of her closet to fit all her instruments.

Isn't that so pretty!!

Decorating with guitars and ukulele

Cottagecore Table Accessories

We are in the homestretch of these cottagecore bedroom ideas, and this is where we had the most fun. When decorating with accessories, look for these items.

Plants, Dried Flowers, and Natural Elements

Using plants around a room is the perfect way to create a cottagecore vibe. Faux plants work just as well if you don't have a green thumb with live plants!

Plant decorations in a Cottage style bed room

In addition to using lavender in the mason jars on the wall, we placed sprigs in bottles and plants on shelves and furniture. You can use the dried wild flowers of your choice.

Lavendar in jars hanging on walls

Bottles and Jars

There is something about bottles and jars that have a mystical quality. You always wonder where the bottle has been and what it was used for, but most of all, who are the people who used it?

A great way to get that core aesthetic is decorating with bottles and jars, as we did here on the shelves. You can usually find inexpensive and interesting bottles and jars at flea markets or thrift stores. Keep an eye out for vintage vases as well.

Vintage bottles and jars in front of a sea oil painting sitting on shelves

You can leave them empty or place things inside like shells, flowers, and such.

Candleholders and Candles

Candles are the perfect decoration to give any room a cozy vibe. So for this bedroom, we used some brass candleholders and jar candles. Not only do they fit the vibe, but they make the room smell pretty.

Candles and candleholder in a cottagecore bedroom

Books

Books are the easiest way to decorate tabletops. We stacked old books and then place decorations on top of them as we did here.

Jar of buttons and a mushroom sitting on top a stack of books

Vintage Timepieces

Grab vintage timepieces for great decor items when you shop at vintage stores. My niece wanted an old-time typewriter in her room. She found this typewriter while vintage shopping, and we thought it would look so pretty on top of the armoire.

Old vintage typwriter in a suitcase on an armoire

Fairy Lights

And last, we tossed some fairy lights on top of the armoire with the old-fashioned typewriter. When the lights are on, it creates the dreamiest feeling that this room once belonged to a writer like Emily Bronte or Jane Austin.

Rugs

We have covered all the elements to make a bedroom feel that cottagecore aesthetic. Except for a cozy rug. We tossed this sheepskin rug under the hanging chair to anchor the nook more and type in the whole book nook design. What a wonderful place to curl up with a good book.

Adding a rug under a hammock swing in a cottagecore reading nook

Now let's go back over everything so you can decorate your bedroom in a cottagecore style.

Final Thoughts

First, decide on the idealized setting you are wanting to create. To tell you the truth, we didn't have an exact core theme, but when it was over and I started writing it down, I realized her room is a 19th-century writers-core space with nature-core, reminiscent of simpler times.

I am pretty sure we just made up our new cottagecore style. LOL!

Now that you have the core aesthetic, look for furniture, accessories, and bedding to fit that style. Place your furniture into their spots, then dress your bed with accent pillows and cozy throws.

Naturecore bedroom design

Next, add wall decor and accessories to the tables and shelves.

Table decoration for a cottagcore bedroom

Last, don't forget a cozy rug, especially if your floors are wood or tile. In fact, go for a larger rug if it is a solid surface. Here are more decor vintage-inspired ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

I hope this inspired you to give your bedroom a cottagecore vibe. If you want more inspiration for your cottagecore home, check out these cottagecore room ideas and this vintage aesthetic bedroom. We even show how to make a shiplap with plywood so you can make your walls look like they came from another time period.

Today we are talking about toddler girl bedroom ideas on a budget. A toddler's room is a place where many things happen from sleeping to playtime so let's look at how to decorate a toddler girl's room without breaking the bank.

Toddler girl bedroom decor on a budget

Recently I got to redecorate my little toddler niece's bedroom. Our plan was rainbows, cute, and to keep the cost down. But after sharing this rainbow-painted wall I got to thinking that you might want to see some toddler girl bedroom ideas on a budget and designer tricks on how to decorate a toddler girl's room.

I hope these ideas provide great inspiration!

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Toddler Girl Bedroom Ideas on a Budget

If you have a tight budget to decorate a toddler girl's bedroom use these three categories to decorate their bedroom.

  • Shop at dollar stores and on Etsy
  • Do-it-yourself decorations
  • Using items you already have

In my niece's room, we used something from all these three categories. Now let's take a tour of this little toddler girl's bedroom and I will show you where we saved pennies while keeping this room toddler friendly.

Shop the post:

1. Toddler Girl Accent Wall

Consider making a mural on an accent wall as we did with this rainbow wall. It's a great way to save money and make the bedroom fun for kids.

Accent wall for toddler girl room

Good news! This DIY rainbow accent wall is easy to paint and it doesn't cost much money. You can use acrylic paint to keep the cost down and this wall makes a big statement. The bright colors are fun and create a focal point.

But you can do any design on an accent wall. When my daughter was little we found the cutest cartoon Paris scene and used a projector to cast it on the wall. Then we traced it with chalk and started painting it. This feature wall brightened the entire room.

Her room was so fun and whimsical and it had a color scheme just like my niece's room that came from the murals on the wall. These fun murals can light up the whole room and will bring joy for a long time.

If you want a mural but do not plan to do it yourself here are more rainbow murals and children's bedroom murals. This is one of my favorites! Kids wallpaper accent walls are great too.

Once you have a color scheme, go to your next biggest purchase and shop for bedding.

2. Toddler Bed Decorations

When it comes to a child bed and you have a tight budget shop at Target, Walmart, or Ikea. For this toddler's bed, I found this pink comforter and striped blanket at Target. It perfectly matched the pink paint color in the rainbow mural.

Update: Target has sold out of the bedding but here are more pink comforter and striped blanket ideas.

If you already have some solid color pieces that will work use items you already have and add new items like shams, and throw pillows in her favorite colors. It's the perfect way to decorate on a budget.

Toddler girl bedding ideas on a budget

We found this cozy pillow at Target and included it as an accent pillow for her bed.

Anything soft, cozy, and comfy is a great idea and will make a toddler happy. But when it comes to a little girl's room you need to consider one more decoration for her bed and that is stuffed animals. It's an easy way to incorporate your toddler's favorite things and to change out as her tastes change.

Add a stuffed animal decoration to her bedroom decor as we did here with this unicorn. I mean what says toddler little girl room like unicorns and rainbows.

Unicorn stuffed animal bed decoration

You can use a favorite stuffed animal here to keep your cost down or pick up one at the store.

Now that you have your two largest things decorated, let's talk about decorations for the rest of the room like wall art and accessories for the rest of the toddler's room.

3. Toddler Wall Art on a Budget

Wall decor doesn't have to break the bank. My cheapest go-to wall art decoration is printables. There are so many great options of printables on Etsy for under 5 dollars that you can frame. Here are DIY printable ideas that will save you money on wall décor too and our Etsy shop which is full of printable wall art.

In my niece's room, we took these pastel printables from our Etsy shop and framed them in inexpensive frames from Walmart.

Toddler wall art printables

We printed them in a poster size to fill up the wall more and make a bigger statement. You could also do smaller sizes and make a gallery wall.

4. Decorating Bookcases in Toddler Rooms

Having a bookcase in a toddler's room is important for several reasons. One, it can be used as a storage space with baskets, and two, reading is important so there needs to be a place for books.

In my niece's room, she had this unusual space where the wall came up a part of the way and then stopped. We took advantage of this spot and added shelves to the top then used the lower shelves for toy storage and the top shelves for decorations.

Decorating Toddler bookshelf

If you have bookcases in your toddler's room, the top shelves are a great place to decorate with decorations that match the room. This is where dollar stores come in handy. Pick up a plant, baskets, and signs for their shelves.

Also, using their books is a fun way to decorate with as we did here. There are several creative ways to decorate with books. Organize them in rainbow color to match the theme of a rainbow room or you can use books that have all the same color to match the design. It's a fantastic way to make books fun and appealing.

Children's books used as decorations

We try to use items they already had. Some of the best things you can use are already in your home. I love to shop around our house for decorations like this brass bunny bank we used as a bookend.

Are you starting to see how all these toddler girl bedroom ideas on a budget are coming together?

5. Toddler Decor DIY Project

To finish up how to decorate a toddler's room consider making decorations like this pom pom garland. It's a great addition and a simple way to tie the whole room together.

Pompom garlands are so fun to make, very inexpensive to make, and they look absolutely adorable in a kid's room. Match your yarn garland to your color scheme as close as you can as we did here.

Toddler room DIY pom pom garland

You can find all the instructions in this how to a make a pom pom garland post.

How to Decorate a Toddlers Bedroom

Toddler bedroom decorations are important to their growth and safety. When shopping for decorations make sure it is safe for them to touch and put into their mouth. Small pieces or breakable pieces should not be used for safety reasons.

Also, look for items that are age-appropriate and assist in their learning. Color and texture help them experience life and learn as they grow.

Conclusion

Kid's rooms are by far the most fun places to decorate. Not only are there so many ideas and themes to choose from that are fun but your client, in my case my niece, is almost always happy with the end result. LOL!

Here are a few final decorations I thought you might like to see.

My niece's nightstand needed a lamp. We splurged a little on the lamp that took only a little space and kept the nightstand mostly decoration free. Keeping this space free of decor allow your toddler to place things where they like or make space for a book that you will read together at bedtime.

Toddler nightstand idea

And we added more decoration to the top of this chest of drawers which is the perfect place as she cannot reach it at this age.

Toddler bedroom decoration ideas

Also, just in case you are wondering, we used the colors from this sign we bought at Hobby Lobby for the paint colors in the rainbow wall mural.

And see how we used more books under the llama? Layering decorations is a designer trick to make your decoration more interesting.

Now it is your turn. Here are more great little girl wall decor ideas and DIY little girl room decor ideas that will help you shop for her bedroom and here are adorable little boy room decor ideas.

I hope you found some inspiration for your toddler's room in these cute ideas! Are you ready to decorate your toddler's bedroom? I know you can do it.

If you have any questions about these toddler bedroom ideas please feel free to ask in the comments. And good luck! What theme are you considering for your toddler's bedroom?

Happy Decorating!

Today we are talking about an antique vintage aesthetic bedroom from how to decorate in this style to antique bedroom ideas. If you love vintage and antiques then you will love this bedroom renovation.

Antique vintage aesthetic bedroom ideas

Recently we decided to decorate an antique vintage aesthetic bedroom for my daughter. For over a decade this antique bed, which belonged to her Mema McDonald, has sat in our attic and all this time she told me she wanted that bed in her bedroom one day.

So after her sister moved from home, she occupied her old bedroom and we brought the full-size bed into her room and then we made changes to the room to give that Cottagecore aesthetic that she has long loved even before it was given a name.

Now that you know the back story of what inspired us to decorate in this style, let me walk you through how to create an antique bedroom for your home, and antique bedroom ideas.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Vintage Antique Aesthetic Bedroom

The best way I can describe this style of design is to go back in time. Pretend you are living years ago and imagine your bedroom in that period. Watching old shows or movies that take place in another part of history helps to get you in the mood. It also helps to do a little history research. Look at the way people lived in that time period.

Now that you have painted a picture in your head here is a list of things to look for when designing a bedroom in this look.

  • Antique or vintage furniture (you can also purchase new furniture that looks old)
  • New or old fabrics (if you want new fabrics look for natural materials like linen and cotton and look for patterns that fit the time period you are working towards)
  • Walls (Add wood to your walls either through trim like wainscot or shiplap on the wall. This will truly transform your space)
  • Paint colors (if you are shopping for paint at Sherwin Williams ask about their historic colors. These colors are based on different times in history. Or pick any vintage looking color that matches your main pattern). Having a color palette in mind can help focus the rest of your shopping.
  • Accessories (if you can only shop for one thing then look for vintage/antique accessories)

Now let's walk through some antique bedroom ideas to pull your room together.

Antique Bedroom Ideas

Since the largest pieces of the room are the walls, floor, and bedding I like to start with one of those that has a pattern on it. It is much easier to match paint colors to a rug or bedspread than to match them to paint colors.

Also, in our situation, we started with the bed frame because that is what inspired the whole space. What is inspiring our bedroom? Our bed is from the early 1900's so we knew we wanted to work around this antique piece.

Now let's use the bedding as the beginning point for all our colors and create an accent wall to make this suburban house feel more like the early 1900s.

Vintage Style Bedding

There are two good ways you can approach bedding. First, you can shop for old bedspreads or you can buy something new that looks vintage. We opted for the latter because we wanted a vintage look that didn't look worn out.

So, luckily we found this comforter with a delicate pattern on it in natural colors. This felt like the perfect choice of traditional style with a vintage flair. It has that antique look we were going for in this room.

New vintage bedding with a delicate pattern

This particular bedspread is a part of the McGee line at Target. Your bed is important because you spend many hours of life there so make sure your bedding is comfortable and that is why we went with Cozy Earth sheets.

We have used their sheets for over a year now and they are the best quality and soft sheets we have slept on. This bedroom may be old-fashioned and the bedding may look like it comes out of a history book but the comfort is modern and delicious.

Cozy Earth heard about me writing this post and offered a 40% discount if you use my code SUMMERHILL40. Isn't that awesome!

Last, consider natural materials for all your fabrics like linen and cotton. Remember many years ago they used all-natural materials so when you pick out accent pillows keep it more natural.

Our largest euro-style pillow is linen which adds a great texture to the bed and the main accent pillow is a windowpane pattern which is also a vintage vibe. The neutral colors also easily meshed with the vintage decor. These accent pillows also came from Target.

Natural fabrics of linen and cotton for bedding in a vintage style bedroom

Now that we have the bedding solved let's move on to the walls.

Vintage Shiplap Accent Wall

When you go into old homes you will see they used shiplap on the walls instead of sheetrock. If there is one thing that says antique vintage then it is shiplap.

For this bedroom, we created a shiplap wall out of plywood to keep the cost down but not comprise the antique aesthetic. This shiplap plywood DIY requires a few certain tools, but if you don't have these tools, then try this shoestring budget faux beadboard DIY, only change the lines to a shiplap look. This is a great way to get a similar result.

Plywood shiplap wall

Next, we wanted to add a paint color to pull together the bedding. This Sherwin Williams Escape gray color was perfect to go with the tiny design in the bedding.

Antique Furniture

Next on our agenda is the furniture. We didn't have it in the budget to buy new furniture so we stayed with our smaller scale mid-century modern pieces. Here it worked great as a bedside table, complementing the aesthetic room decor.

One good thing about mid-century modern is that it was designed for the mid 20th century smaller size home with lower ceilings. This is perfect if your vintage bedroom is small. And mid-century modern can be paired with other styles because it has a neutral appearance. However, it doesn't always work. Lucky for us it worked in this case.

Mid century modern furniture

Last, on our list is the accessories. This is where you can truly pull the whole room into another time period.

Vintage Wall Art

Let's start with the walls. Shop vintage, antique, and thrift stores for art. We found this precious piece and couldn't believe how well the colors in the painting matched the accent wall.

Vintage art for antique bedroom ideas

Another idea is to use printables from Etsy. There are loads and loads of vintage prints and we have many in our Etsy home decor printable shop. We used some of our vintage art next to our antique mora clock in our living room.

We also added postcards to one side of the mirror. They came from Williamsburg, Virginia when we visited historic Williamsburg. They have that old-time look.

Adding antique or vintage style mirrors is an easy way to help make a small space feel bigger, especially when arranged as a wall collage.

Vintage Style Accessories

This room is really starting to come together and if you only have money to do one thing then I would spend it on accessories. You can find some real treasures inexpensively at flea markets, thrift stores, garage sales, and even your local antique store. Here are the items we found to pull off this vintage vibe.

First, we added a modern vintage retro Victrola record player on the nightstand. It has that old-fashioned look to warm up the space.

Antique vintage accessories in a bedroom

Next, my daughter picked up this milk glass lamp while picking years ago. This was a favorite vintage find. We decided to elevate it with this old wooden box. By doing this we added more tabletop space and storage space.

Last, we added new and old accessories like an old book and new bottles with dripping used candles. Vintage bottles in different sizes, unique shapes, and colors can easily and inexpensively add to your vintage feel.

Over on her wall shelves, we were able to add more lovely accessories to paint a picture of long ago. We added a chamber lamp, more old books, little trinkets from a time gone by. Small vintage items and vintage looking design elements can truly transform your space. Each little piece is like you time-traveled to a bedroom long ago.

Old accessories on modern shelves

Last, sprinkle more accessories around the room and you are all finished. Bonus points if you find items to do double duty. For example, vintage suitcases that are decorative and double as a storage solution. You have now created an antique aesthetic bedroom.

Conclusion

If you are like me and you have a modern suburban home adding antiques can be a challenge because they seem out of place. That doesn't mean you can't pull off this decor style, there are many different ways to bring a vintage aesthetic to your new home.

Remember adding trim to your walls like board and batten, beadboard and shiplap will start to make the home look less like a builder grade home and more like a cozy space for you and your family.

We love how this room turned out. It is warm and cozy with a modern vintage style. Modern in that we have all the modern conveniences but it's like we have looked through a looking glass too long-long ago. A perfect reflection of my daughter's personal style and love of vintage room decor.

Vintage antique bedroom

When helping my daughter create this room I painted a picture of her grandparent Mcdonald's early 1900s victorian style home and her great grandmother Roe's city farmhouse.

After we finished tears came to my eyes because it was like I brought back to life the homes of the family we so loved.

Now it is your turn. If you could recreate a room from long ago which time period would you do or whose home comes to mind? I'd love to hear about your vintage bedroom ideas! You can find more ideas in my post about the best decorating from thrift stores to liven up your home decor.

If you love antiques or vintage decorations then you will adore these french country farmhouse bedroom decorations. We have created a collection of furniture and decor to style a European country bedroom.

french country farmhouse bedroom decorations

French country farmhouse bedroom decor has charming and character written all over it. A decade or more ago french country patterns were so popular. I loved the rich colors with the small details. Some of my favorite ways to use the patterns were on table cloths and weekend bags.

Now European country and vintage inspired decor are trending and the french country style has a similar fresher look. So let's talk about how to decorate your bedroom in a french country farmhouse style.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

French Country Farmhouse Bedroom

First, let's discuss what to look for when decorating in the french country farmhouse style.

Think about french decor which most of the time has ornate decorations. The fancier the better. But when you add in the words country and farmhouse then you won't find too much fancy.

So let's find a good in-between. Think vintage, old, curved shapes with a little fancy, not too much, but just a tiny bit.

Here is a list of items you can shop for when looking for french country farmhouse bedroom decor. You can look for antiques, reproductions, or new decor that looks aged.

  • Furniture (Keep it simple, natural finish, or white washed. It can have straight edges or a curved piece like the bed on this design board)
  • Art (Think of old looking art like this linen painting. You an also take new paintings and add an aged look to them with brown wax. Also consider architectural pieces. Pretend you brought a piece of an old building back from France. These items make great art pieces)
  • Baskets (Baskets work great with any style but if you use a french market basket then you are decorating with something authentic. Or you can purchase any handmade looking basket to get the same look)
  • Pillows (Natural ticking pillows or french style pattern pillows are great for decorating your french country bedroom. The more texture the better.)
  • Dishes (You might be wondering why I have dishes in a bedroom. Well, french transferware looks amazing hanging on walls. If you can't find french ones you can use any transferware.)
  • Chandelier (Chandeliers look so pretty in bedrooms and if you want to bring a little Versaille into your space this is an easy way to do it.)
  • Plants (look for real or artificial plants that are grown in France and add that to your bedroom decor. Lavender is a great choice since they grow so much of it in france.
  • Rugs (There are two kinds of rugs that work great in french farmhouse decor. Any natural rug like sisal or jut. Or you can use a distressed ornate rug. I would keep it muted in color to fit the french country aesthic)

Now that we have a few ideas to look for, let me make your life even simpler. We have pulled together a collection to make your online vintage shopping more fun.

Bedroom Decor for French Country Farmhouse

Shop all these french-style decorations by simply tapping the image below.

Now let's talk a little about several of these decorations.

French Market Basket

Vintage decor is a great way to add character to your home decor and this french market basket is perfect to hang on the wall, sit on the floor or use for storage.

I have this exact basket and I use it all the time in decorations. Here is where I used it to decorate our wall hooks.

French Market basket hanging on a wall

Consider a market basket or any kind of basket as long as it has an old-world vibe to it.

French Dishes

Another great way to decorate in a french country style is with transferware. I wish I could say I have some french transferware in my home but I do have something close. These are my grandma's dishes. You can decorate with them anywhere in your house but they look very cute in bedroom decor.

French farmhouse bedroom

French Style Rugs and Carpets

sisal rug with white bemcj

Textured rugs like jute and sisal fit nicely within a farmhouse country bedroom. Also consider distressed light colored french style rugs.

Here is an example of a natural fiber rug in our entryway but it will look amazing in a bedroom.

French Country Farmhouse Art

For art, consider frescos, oil paintings, architectural elements or anything that you would find in France. The linen painting and relief art are two ideas to add to your decorations. This landscape is so pretty and would look amazing in a french style bedroom.

French linen landscape art

So what do you think? Are you ready to give your bedroom a french country farmhouse aesthetic? Here is one last thought. If you have a limited budget and want to carry your decor in your bedroom to this style, begin by changing out your accessories with french inspired pieces.

Change your art on the walls, add small accessories and plants that you would find in France. But remember to keep your french decor humble because we are talking about the country.

Conclusion

In addition to the furniture and decorations I mentioned, here is a list of stores you can find french inspired or antique french decor.

World Market is a great place to shop because they have a more simple design to their furniture and accessories and they love bringing decorations from other countries into their shop. Another store that is similar but a bit pricier is Antrhopologie.

If you are looking for french antiques then I would shop Etsy online or go to White and Faded. They are also on Etsy but they have much more on their website at White and Faded.

I also love The Well Appointed House for furniture, monogramed towels and much more that have the french vibe. However, if you want delicious sheets for your bed I would shop Cozy Earth.

Vintage french country farmhouse bedroom decorations

They are my favorite sheets because they feel so smooth and soft. And they're good quality. Use my coupon code SUMMERHILL40 to get 40% off.

Last, consider searching Amazon for pieces like the basket. I find small items that looks like the old thing but are new and much cheaper. I also look at thrift stores and local antique shops. There are so many treasures when you dig through these stores.

I hope you have found this helpful and I would love to hear if you decide to decorate your room in a french style. You can find some more great ideas at my antique vintage aesthetic bedroom post. Another great place to learn about french decorating is my french country table setting idea. I share a tablecloth that would also make a beautiful folded bed throw at the end of a bed.

Learn how to make a beautiful rainbow painted wall in your home or child's room. These easy step-by-step instructions will walk you through making a watercolor organic rainbow on your wall.

Painted rainbow room

I have a little niece who is crazy about rainbows and unicorns. She's been telling us she wants a girls rainbow bedroom for some time now. So one day her mom and I started cooking up a plan to create a rainbow painted wall. In less than one day we changed the look of her room to a bright, happy, and cheerful place. Check out the final results and more tips at my 5 Cute Toddler Girl Bedroom Ideas on a Budget post.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Rainbow Painted Wall

I have painted many murals on a wall but surprisingly I have never painted a rainbow on a wall. I had a strategy inside my head and I was keeping my fingers crossed it would work. So, let's get started painting a rainbow on a wall by shopping for supplies.

DIY Rainbow Wall Paint & Supplies

To begin you will need to pick your colors or you can use the color I have already matched. These rainbow paint colors were matched up with a piece of art we found at Hobby Lobby called “Sweet Dreams”. I used sample sizes by Behr paint at The Home Depot.

Painted rainbow mural supplies

Now that we have gathered supplies for this rainbow painted wall let's get started talking about the background of the rainbow.

White or Neutral Wall Paint Color

Before you start painting a rainbow on your wall make sure your wall is white paint or neutral base color. If you want your wall to look like our little girl's room you will need to paint it white. We used Alabaster White by Sherwin Williams. This is a great white color that is softer on the eyes.

Alabaster white background for rainbow wall

Once you have your wall painted and it is dry let's begin drawing the rainbow on your wall.

.

How to Draw a Rainbow on a Wall

This part is probably the most challenging part but once you have figured out some numbers then you will be over the rainbow. Grab your measuring tape and measure the width of the wall. Once you find the center make a mark.

If your wall is 8 feet tall and you want your rainbow to look like mine then measure up from the floor 30″ and make a make. I wrote the letter C here.

Drawing a rainbow on a wall

Then measure up to 35″ and make a mark. That is the top of your rainbow.

Next measure from the lower center mark over 35″ and make a mark. That is how far your rainbow goes to one side. Do the same on the other side and make a mark. If your rainbow is too wide for your wall then all you have to do is determine the width and then use that number to mark the height.

If you need your rainbow to be higher up then move your bottom center point up.

Now you have five colors in this rainbow design and each color is 6″ wide and you have white space in between the colors that are 1″ wide. That is a total of 35″ from the top center of the rainbow to the bottom. Do you see where I got the 35″ number from?

Next using your ruler or measuring tape measure down 6″ and make a mark from the top center of the rainbow. Then measure from there 1″ and make a mark. Then another 6″ and so on until you get all five colors.

How to draw a rainbow on a wall

Drawing a Raindow on a Wall

Now for the fun part — drawing a perfect arch. Tie a long string to a pencil on one end and using a push pin secure the string to the letter C on the wall. Or you can have someone hold it as we did.

Painting a rainbow on a wall

Start on one side and hold the pencil at a perfect 90-degree angle and keep the string taught while you draw an arch line. Lightly draw on the wall. Do not make a dark line. Trust me you will thank me later.

Drawing a rainbow on a wall

Start and stop at a horizontal position. Meaning when the string is straight horizontally like the line of the horizon stop drawing there.

Once you have the rainbow arch drawn take a level and a draw vertical straight line for each color. Now that you have all the lines drawn you are finished with the challenging part and ready to paint.

Painting a Rainbow on a Wall

Now for the fun part of painting a watercolor organic large rainbow on a wall.

Begin by dipping your paintbrush in one of the rainbow colors of paint and put it on a paper plate. Then dip your paintbrush into a cup of water. Only dip the tip of the paintbrush and remove the excess water on the side of the cup and place the water into the paint and stir it around.

You should have slightly watered-down paint on the paper plate. You don't want your paint to be too runny or it will run down the wall while you paint it onto the rainbow but you need it loosened up so it gives the water effect.

Keep a roll of paper towels handy just in case it starts running. We had that happen a few times.

Begin painting the rainbow stripes. It is okay if the paint doesn't look perfect because remember this is an organic rainbow and a watercolor look.

How to draw a watercolor rainbow on a wall

While you are painting make sure to stay on the inside of the pencil lines. When you are finished we will be erasing the pencil line. You can see the line if you paint over it and you will not be able to erase it after it dries.

Erasing lines from a rainbow mural

Once all the paint colors have been applied let it dry overnight before you erase the pencil lines.

And now you have a beautiful organic rainbow on your wall or in this case a bedroom wall.

.

How to Decorate a Little Girls Rainbow Bedroom

Yay! We have this amazing statement wall and it is time to do some decorating. But first, there is an awkward half wall in the bedroom corner. To make it feel less odd and more on purpose we went with shelves.

Custom Bedroom Shelves

To make it more decorative we wanted shelves with gold brackets but couldn't find the exact length of the white shelf. Believe it or not, I found it be cheaper to buy this shelf set on Amazon and only use the brackets and then buy wood for shelves.

We cut the wood then sanded and painted the shelves the same color as the walls, Alabaster White. After they were painted I gave them a few days to dry before decorating them.

Shelves for a girls rainbow room

Little Girls Bedding

When you are at The Home Depot shopping for paint samples grab the paint chips. They will come in handy when shopping for bedding and other things.

Match as close as you can a bed set. We went with a chenille comforter set and accented it with a striped throw at the end of the bed and a sherpa pillow. Children love things that feel good and are soft. The sherpa pillow is perfect for cuddling

Bedding for a rainbow room

Then for a little decoration on the bed, we found this unicorn. My sweet little niece is also crazy about unicorns so this guy was fitting.

Rainbow bedroom theme for little girl

Child's Nightstand

It is good for children to have a nightstand or small table next to their bed. Even if you don't have a table you can stack boxes or use crates as a nightstand.

Keep it simple with a lamp and a place for them to place books, box or anything they will love to use at bedtime. This lamp is great because when the light is turned on it case shadow lines on the wall which is fun and it has a dimmer. Lights with dimmers for children are perfect for low light at bedtime or bright during the day.

And the extra space for books is perfect for this little girl's latest favorite book. She tickles me sitting down pretending she knows all the words in this book. She carries on the whole story just by looking at the pictures. So adorable!

Rainbow room for a little girl

Decorating Children's Bookcases

Next, let's work on the bookcases. Because they are mostly out of reach we went with decorating instead of toys. On the top shelf is a basket for mom. This is a great place to store things that are not used on a daily basis and out of the reach of her little girl. Then I painted this cute “Be Kind” sign I found at Dollar General and place it on top too.

Rainbow decorations for child's room

The next shelf was the perfect spot a decorative book, a cross, wooden beads, a stack of books to repeat the gold pattern, and a plant. Plants are important when decorating because they will warm up your decor and give it life. We went with an artificial plant for this room.

One more decorative shelf is filled with books organized in rainbow colors and a gold rabbit bank acting as a bookend. Then we placed a rainbow decorating on the end.

Bookcase in rainbow order

Last are two larger baskets that our little girl can reach. These baskets will be filled with items that she uses on a daily basis.

Baskets for rainbow bedroom

And here are the decorated shelves. It turned out so cute!!

Rainbow Printable Art Print

For the walls, my daughter Hannah designed adorable art pieces for our Etsy shop. This is a great way to get art for cheap. This one says “You are my Sunshine” from that sweet classic children's song. We used inexpensive frames from Walmart to frame them and had them printed at Office Depot.

You are my sunshine boho wall art for little girls rainbow room

The other design has Psalms 139:14, “She is fearfully and wonderfully made.” This piece has a cut little organic rainbow nestled at the bottom to go with the rainbow room theme.

Rainbow art bible verse

How to Make a Rainbow Pom Pom Garland

The last DIY project we did for this little girl's bedroom is a rainbow garland. I have directions on how to make a pom pom garland but to make this a rainbow design all you need is yarn in the colors of the painted rainbow accent wall.

Once I had the pom poms made I laid them out in order just like our gorgeous rainbow wall and threaded them with a large needs onto a piece of yarn I measured out on a diagonal on her mirror.

To hang the garland I used painter's tape on the back of the mirror. This side of the room needed color and the rainbow garland did the trick.

Rainbow pom pom garland

Inspiration Decoration

Last, we hung the inspiration piece. Remember we used this piece of art to match our colors. Well, it found its home over the chest of drawers.

Rainbow art work as inspiration for rainbow mural

And to make it fun we placed another useful basket, a stack of gold binding books, and topped it with this hilarious girly lama. This lama cracks me up.

Rainbow bedroom art

It is so important to make a child's bedroom fun and happy. It is also important that a child can touch decorations without worry they will break something. Many decorations in this room came from Dollar General so if it breaks we are not out of a lot of money.

These lanterns found at the Dollar General have battery-powered lights inside of them. Never put candles or anything flammable in a child's room. Battery-powered lights are great for children. You can find them for cheap that any dollar store.

Boho lantern in a rainbow theme kids room

Conclusion

Well, there you have it. A rainbow-themed bedroom for a little girl. After we painted the rainbow on the wall we didn't let her in the room until it was all decorated. She was so excited to see it!

Remember if you are doing a child's room make sure everything in the room is safe for them to touch. If their bedroom is also a playroom then use the baskets to store toys. Floor baskets are great too for toys as well as under-bed storage.

I hope you have enjoyed learning how to make a rainbow on a wall and get inspiration on decorating a rainbow-themed bedroom for a child. Here are little girl wall decor ideas that will help you plan her decorations too.

A big rainbow behind a bed is the perfect statement piece of this room and will look great for other rooms like new baby, kids' bedroom, playroom, classroom, homeschool room, new office, and so on.

HOW CAN YOU SAVE SPACE IN A TINY BEDROOM?

To begin with, choosing furniture is super important when you are asking how can you save space in a tiny bedroom. Picking visually light weight pieces make a big difference in a small space.

Also, choosing furniture that allows light to travel under it will make the room feel larger too. And think about a light color for the walls. The lighter the room the better.

Being creative with what is a necessity and what isn't can help you come up with some great solutions. Consider what the room will be used for.

Is the room a guest bedroom that will only be used on occasion or is it a lived-in room that will be used daily? If it is a guest room you may not need anything other than the bed and nightstands.

BEDROOM IDEAS FOR SMALL ROOMS

Are you ready to see the stunning examples we have gathered together of bedroom ideas for small rooms? Let's dive in.

SIMPLICITY IN A SMALL BEDROOM

Small bedroom idea by Pammy and Poppy.

Pam, from Pammy & Poppy, has let us in her home many times. We've seen many of her lovely tiered trays and also her scrumptious coffee bar.

Look at her peaceful small bedroom. The neutral colors that were used lighten up this room and make it feel airy and spacious.

The decor in this room is also simple, but elegant. From the large wall clock to the beaded chandelier, everything feels as though it has been well thought out.

A TINY BEDROOM WITH BEDSIDE DECOR & TRUNK STORAGE

Small bedroom ideas by the White Magnolia

This lovely room belonging to Callie, over at The White Magnolia Farmhouse, has so many sweet details.

The intricate bedside panels are lovely and don't take up any extra space in this tiny bedroom. Adorning them with hanging flower baskets add another precious detail.

Don't miss the great storage piece at the bottom of the bed. A chippy antique trunk is great for storage.

TINY NEUTRAL BEDROOM

Cleaver small bedroom ideas by Ania.

Ania has a tiny neutral designed bedroom. Simple decor and light colors give this room an open feeling.

Having a rack hanging on the wall is a creative storage spot. Also, a ladder bookshelf as a bedside table gives lots of storage.

Talk about a clever idea!

ACCENT WALL IN A COMPACT BEDROOM

Small bedroom design idea by Haz Farm.

Kristie, from the Haz Fam, has done a great job choosing a wall to choose as an accent wall. She has given it a shiplap look and as you can imagine it captures your focus when you enter the room.

Also, adding mirrors next to the bedsides gives the feel of a larger room.

A FRENCH FARMHOUSE SMALL BEDROOM

French farmhouse design in this small bedroom by Danni and Marc.

Having a small bedroom with a slanted ceiling can be a challenge, but not for Danni & Marc, over at DIY French Farmhouse.

You don't need headspace when you're laying in bed, so placing your bed along the wall with the lowest ceiling is smart.

Also, a narrow console table is a great place to set some goodies.

COZY BOHO LITTLE BEDROOM

Clever use of space in this tiny bedroom design by Oakridge Designs

Paula, at Oakridge Designs, has put together a cozy boho little bedroom. She has fit a reading chair in the room and has decorated it with so many great vintage pieces.

One of our favorite decor items in the room is the rug! Isn't it gorgeous!

SEATING & LIGHTING IN A TINY BEDROOM

Cottage style small bedroom design by The Pickled Rose

Seating can be a great place for hanging out, but can also hold a suitcase if you have visitors in your small guest room.

Our friend Kristi, from The Pickled Rose, has set up this breathtaking tiny bedroom with a chair acting as a nightstand. She has utilized the light that flows into the window to brighten up the room.

Kristi also has several lamps and a mirror that will reflect the light and make the otherwise small room feel spacious.

THEMED SMALL BEDROOM

Themed small bedroom design in a rustic farm theme by Jamie Lee Designs

It's a great idea to give your small bedroom a theme. This western styled room was designed by Jamie, at Jamie Lee Designs.

What a fun flair to what could be a boring space.

STATEMENT PIECE HEADBOARD IN A COMPACT BEDROOM

Beautiful small bedroom idea using an accent headboard by Burlap and Rust.

Having a statement piece in a compact sized bedroom is a grand idea.

Chyvonne, from Burlap & Rust, has selected a striking headboard and married it with a classic black and white color scheme with accents of blush tones.

HOW DO YOU MAXIMIZE FLOOR SPACE IN A SMALL BEDROOM?

When there isn't a lot of room, you might find yourself asking how do you maximize floor space in a small bedroom. Our friends in the next few bedroom examples answer that. Come see what we mean!

A DAYBED WITH A DRESSER IN A TINY BEDROOM

Small bedroom idea by Stephanie Fisher

The use of a daybed in a tiny bedroom is a great concept.

Most of the time daybeds give you the option to have a trundle bed underneath. This allows for two twin beds in a bedroom. A great option in your child's bedroom, if they want to have friends spend the night.

Stephanie Fisher assembled this room and even had floor space for a dresser.

HIDDEN STORAGE AND HIGH CUBBIES IN A LITTLE BEDROOM

Small bedroom idea by XO my Home

There is hidden storage all throughout this room of Kim, from XO My Home.

Check out the drawers under the daybed. We also spy a cabinet framing this bed. Don't miss the high cubbies, that make for great storage and frees up floor space.

Let's talk about cheap small bedroom ideas that look expensive and make your room look larger. After years of designing bedrooms, these details will make your next decorating project much easier.
Cheap bedroom ideas for a guest room.

Let's use this room as an example of cheap small bedroom ideas and how to make a small bedroom look larger. This is my daughter's old bedroom which was converted to a guest bedroom. When decorating it, my budget was tight, so my goal was to come up with cheap bedroom ideas. A little money can go a long way with planning, and I will share affordable ways.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Cheap Small Bedroom Ideas

This room is a very small space, but I planned to make it feel larger, so I implemented tricks I learned in Interior Design school, and I am about to share them with you. A lack of square footage doesn't have to feel small.

Before we break down the details, here is a list of essential elements to making a bedroom feel larger, and at the end, I will share more tips on how to keep this room budget friendly and appealing.

There are five main things that you can do to make a tiny bedroom feel larger.

  • Paint
  • Furniture
  • Accessories and wall decor
  • Window Treatments

Let's begin talking about paint.

What Paint Colors Make a Room Look Larger?

Let's talk wall colors. Color can play a big role in how spacious a tiny bedroom looks, and it can say a lot about the mood of a room.

If your room is small but has lots of natural light, then you are lucky because you can go with medium-tone colors, but if your room is tiny and there is no natural light, then you will want to stick with white and very light colors. It's an easy way to make a small room feel larger.

A few of my favorite Sherwin Williams light colors that I recommend are:

  • Extra White
  • Pure White
  • Alabaster
  • Snowbound
  • Sea Salt
  • Accessible Beige
  • Kilim Beige
  • Agreeable Gray

All these colors are on the popular Sherwin Williams paint colors list, and there are even more beautiful colors to choose from.

Another trick to make the room seem larger is to paint the walls and the trim the same color as I did in this guest bedroom. The color I used here is Ultra Pure White by Behr paint. I love this wall color.

Some popular Behr paint colors are:

  • Ultra Pure White
  • Swiss Coffee
  • Silver Bullet
  • Graceful Gray
  • Classic Silver
  • White Metal
  • Natural Gray

And if you are wondering where to buy Behr paint, we have an entire post on the best places and details of the paint sold.

Paint is top of my list of cheap bedroom ideas, but furniture can play a big role in making a small room feel like a larger room.

How to Make a Small Room Look Bigger with Furniture

Now that we have the wall finished, let's move on to furniture and furniture arrangement.

There are two things to consider when planning the furniture for the room. First, think about the scale or size of the pieces of furniture, and second, look for furniture that sits off the floor. Let me explain more.

What do I mean by the scale of the furniture? Basically, I mean how heavy it looks. Pieces that are bulky and heavy looking will swallow a tiny bedroom.

Look for more petite pieces like end tables with thinner legs and beds with no footboard. Keep the pieces as light looking and light-colored as possible. This is the best way to keep the room from feeling overwhelmed by furniture. This adorable bedside table is a perfect example.

Cheap bedroom ideas using a small thrifted end table

The lighter the finish, the less heavy it will seem.

Desk and chair as a nightstand in a small bedroom

Also, any piece of furniture that mounts to the wall and doesn't touch the floor is a great idea because then the floor space is uninterrupted, and light will travel under it.

So, why do I recommend the furniture sit off the floor like the bed, nightstands, dressers, bedside tables, and anything else have feet and open space underneath? Well, this allows light to travel under the piece of furniture, making the space feel lighter.

Another clever designer trick when placing furniture is to not put anything large right at the entryway into the room. Something large will block the eye from moving through the room and make the room feel smaller and more crowded.

How to Make a Room Look Bigger with Mirrors

Now let's talk about one thing that will double the size of your room… mirrors. This top tip is the easiest way to make a room look larger.

In my bathroom, I have one big mirror over my vanity that runs from the ceiling to the countertop. People are always surprised that the master bathroom is smaller than our guest bathroom, but you would never know it because of that large mirror.

Decorating a small bedroom

So in a tiny bedroom, purchase a large mirror and lean it against the wall somewhere. Make sure to secure it so that it will not fall on anyone. If you do not have enough floor space for a mirror, hang one on the wall as I did in this room. It's all about finding the right place to make the room feel larger.

How to Make a Room Look Bigger with Flooring

We have talked about walls, furniture, and mirrors, so let's talk about floors. Any light color flooring will make a room look larger, but a hard surface floor like wood will do wonders for a space.

In this bedroom, I have a light-colored carpet, but I plan to add wood flooring and a light-colored rug to go into the room. I hope to get a rug that will fill it up as much as possible because it is a bedroom, and I want guests to feel warm and cozy.

Note: Later in this post, I share about adding wood floors and a rug.

Bedroom ideas that are cheap

How to Make a Room Look Bigger with Curtains

Using blinds and shutters will make a room look larger but if you are a lover of textiles and curtains, then here is a designer trick that will make your window look larger, hopefully making the room look larger.

Cheap bedroom ideas

However, I think no curtains are better. 🙂

When you plan your drapes, measure from the ceiling to the floor. Then look at the height of the drapes you are shopping for. Go with the highest curtain you can find within your measurement.

Then hang your curtain rod higher and further out to the left or right. That way, when you pull your curtains back, they will sit on the wall instead of inside the window.

See how this makes the window appear wider than it really is? And bringing the rod up higher draws the eye up and makes the ceiling feel taller, which gives the illusion the room is bigger.

How to Use Accessories to Make a Bedroom Feel Larger

So now that you know the tricks of the designer trade, let's discuss accessories. Accessories are a great way to make a room feel cozy and add personality.

Smaller bedrooms will not require a lot of accessories. Keeping your accessories minimal and using larger ones will help them feel more spacious. You can use large or small accessories like art, vases, smaller plants, candles, and carvings.

Adding plants to a bedroom as an inexpensive decor idea

When accessorizing the room, do not feel like you have to have something on every wall. Keeping one wall free will help the space feel larger, and using one art piece as a focal point helps keep things mentally spacious too.

This wall art coordinates well with the color palette and does not overwhelm the room. It's also a great opportunity to reflect on your personal taste.

How to decorate walls cheaply with thrifted and dollar store art

Also, your accessories can be kept to a minimum. Hanging lamps like my easy DIY basket pendant light frees up nightstand space and gives room for necessities.

Cheap small bedroom ideas using light colors and thrifted items

Adding accessories to a room is what gives it that cozy feeling. Again keep it simple and add pretty small bedroom decor here and there, like plants, small art, candles, and such.

Decorating with candles in a guest bedroom on a nightstand

Update: Wood floors are an excellent way to make a small room feel larger. After taking these photos, I later changed the old carpet to wood and added a lovely blue and ivory Stirling English Country rug.

The wood flooring made the small room look even larger, and the rug grounded the whole space.

Update: The rug linked above is still the same; however, the colors look darker on Amazon. I am not sure if their photos are dark or if they have changed colors. Check the reviews if you plan to purchase a rug like mine.

Small Bedroom Decorating Ideas on a Budget

Now that we have traveled through a tiny room and dissected elements that will make it feel larger, let's talk about how I saved money.

This room is only 9′ x 10′ and back when my daughter was young, we had a twin bed in here, but now I needed a larger bed.

I transformed a metal headboard into a drop cloth upholstered headboard. It was so easy to make I wrote another post on how to make an upholstered headboard so you can make one too.

This is a cheap way to get a high-end look on a shoestring budget. And you don't need to buy a new bed frame.

Budget friendly bedroom decorating ideas

I added a desk that is not heavily looking that I found at Homegoods. Homegoods, TJ Maxx and Marshall, are great places to find fashionable furniture for a lower price.

Also, consider thrift furniture like the chair at the desk. This Windsor chair was a freebie I found on the side of the road. I gave it a fresh new look with a bit of milk paint.

I used shutters in the color white, but you can use white blinds to save money. They have great ones at Walmart by Better Homes and Gardens.

I also painted the whole room white, including the trim. I ordered the Behr paint kit from Home Depot. It was a good deal because it also came with all the tools needed.

I used texture to cozy up the bedding, and using a solid light color makes the room feel larger too. The euro sham came from Walmart, and the bedspread, accent pillow, and blanket came from TJMaxx.

Full bed with light colors to make a bedroom feel larger

I love shopping at these stores because their items are higher-end with a lower-end price. It's easy to spend a small fortune on things like bed linens, throw blankets, and throw pillows, so it's great when you can find quality pieces at affordable prices.

I usually do not recommend an accent wall in small rooms, but if you keep it about the color of the walls, then you are good to go.

Cheap small bedroom ideas using thrifted items

In this room, I added this peel and stick wallpaper to one wall. I have a whole post on how to install peel and stick wallpaper. It's an inexpensive DIY project to change the look of your room. You will not believe how easy it is to install.

Here is one more room image so you can see the big picture.

Pastel color bedding to make a room feel larger

As you can see, a room can still feel spacious even with limited space. I think it's a beautiful space that feels cozy. I hope you have enjoyed these cheap small bedroom ideas and have found them helpful and encouraging.

CLUBHOUSE BOYS ROOM

Black & white color schemed boys room by Hello It's Shannon

Hello It's Shannon has a super cool room for her little boy. The color scheme is black and white is classic.

His little clubhouse bed with a rustic wooden roof is perfect for a little guy's bedroom. Here is another example of making a little boy feel secure at night. The room and the bed on the floor help him sleep soundly.

Cross and triangle wall decals, as she used, are also a great way to add some focal points. What a wonderful way to show off his cute decor.

How Do You Decorate a Small Boys Bedroom?

When planning your little boy's room get on your knees and look around the room. This allows you to see his bedroom from his angle.

Put the things that are important to him at your eye level, especially what he needs to reach. Adding a personal touch is a simple way to reflect your boy's personality. A bed with a canopy or a roof that brings the height down to make him feel safe.

Another trick is painting his ceiling a color. Sometimes a color on the ceiling will make the room feel cozier and smaller.

What Color Should I Paint My Sons Room?

You can paint a little boys room any color, but here are a few tips on color.

Bright colors are more stimulating, which is good until it is nap time. I recommend using a calmer color for the room and accent with brighter colors on accessories and bedding.

Darker colors make a room feel smaller but a dark room might make a child feel frightened. If you love dark colors paint all the walls a lighter color and then add an accent wall in a darker color.

Natural colors are great for little boys rooms. Agreeable gray and repose gray are two nice colors for any boys room. These colors just about match anything which. makes decorating much easier.

Final Thoughts on Little Boy Room Ideas
