This simple Christmas home tour is designed in a cost-friendly minimalist style with ideas for decorating the fireplace mantle, Christmas tree, entryway, and small front porch.

This year's Christmas home tour is all about keeping it simple by creating a minimalist design and the cost down. 

Life seems to be getting busier and busier and my old-soul personality has been longing for a homemade Christmas for a long time.  Here are ideas to keep your decorations simple for the holidays.

SIMPLE CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR

You won't believe what started this whole keeping it simple idea!  Well, it started with our tree in the living room. 

My hubby and I purchased a tree many years ago, which lucky for us has been amazing.  But, deep down inside I wanted a white Christmas this year.  So, we started with flocking this wonderful old tree. 

This was the beginning of “keeping it simple”.

MINIMALIST CHRISTMAS FRONT DOOR DECORATING IDEAS

Every year I pull down the garland from the attic and decorate the front door, but this year the front porch was calling for “all-natural.” 

One of my favorite places to purchase live wreaths and garlands is Trader Joe's and I adore boxwood wreaths.  So, let me encourage you to pick up a live wreath and add your favorite ribbon.

Another way I changed our front door was the planter.  This year I have fallen in love with these tiny little Christmas trees!  I found this one at Lowes.  Which is the lowest price I found in town.

Decorate your small tree with battery powered lights, a little ribbon that matches the wreath, lanterns and your front door is complete!

HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS ENTRYWAY IDEA

Remember me sharing with you that your front door is a hint of what is to come inside?  Well, your entry is your first impression!  So why not add some character to your entry table, bench, or whatever you have just inside? 

In our case, I decided the bench should get some Christmas decor.  I pulled together some pieces I already had and added a real tree and created Christmas Entry that Brings Holiday Cheer.

FLOCKED CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATING IDEAS

Flocking our tree was much more of an adventure than I anticipated, but I highly recommend it! 

If you are wondering what is flocking a Christmas tree? Well, it is where you add snow to the branches.

With the help of Marty and Hannah, we took each branch outside for spraying and then placed them on the tree.  I think we used around 10 cans of snow spray, and that poor little Camilla bush outside where we were spraying was flocked too! 

While everyone in the South was not having inches of snow our one little bush outside was the only snow we were getting!  LOL!

As you can see in the photo our old artificial Christmas tree has white dusted branches to give it a new look.

MINIMALIST CHRISTMAS MANTLE DECORATING IDEAS

If you have been following us on social media then you might have noticed the Free Printable on the mantle.  It is no longer there, but this Thomas Kincade winter scene had to go up for Christmas day. 

You see it was given to me many years ago by my sister Pam who passed away last year.  Christmas isn't Christmas without her gift on the mantle and it makes me feel close to her having it there.

To finish this look flock some garland, add some lighting, toss in a village and something tall on the sides, add your favorite stockings, and make this super easy pom-pom garland.

SIMPLE MANTLE CENTERPIECE IDEA

Our village was a new addition last year from Crate & Barrel but if your budget is tight look for some village buildings at the thrift store or dollar store and spray paint them.  It's very easy to get this look for a very little cost.

MINIMALIST CHRISTMAS PILLOWS & THROW

Pillows and throws can transform and warm a room.  This year my niece came home with this adorable village scene pillow from Target. 

It was the perfect addition to our space and matched nicely with my blue snowflake-looking pillow that stays out year-round. 

Just a few pillows and a throw make your space feel toasty. Borrowing Christmas decorations is another way to keep costs down.

SIMPLE CHRISTMAS CENTERPIECE IDEAS

In our home, Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus!  So the season wouldn't be complete without a Nativity. 

To add a little flavor to your Nativity simply add some Christmas tree cuttings from your local Christmas tree yard. 

Thanks to the Boy Scouts who are selling trees at the local church down the road I was about to add some real branches.  Then simply add battery operated lights under the leaves and baby Jesus will be highlighted and illuminated.

DECORATING WITH CHRISTMAS BOOKS

I love decorating with books and children's Christmas books have the most beautiful illustrations.  So why not capitalize on that free art and work it into your home decor?

EASY BACK PORCH CHRISTMAS DECOR IDEAS

I love, love, love decorating our back porch for the holidays! 

Usually, we get a real tree but this year I wanted to get a head-start on decorating so I could give you all some ideas and the back porch was the best place to begin.  We were Christmas on the outside and Thanksgiving on the inside in November.  LOL! 

Simply add a rustic style tree, flocked of course, then some cotton to create another super simple design.  Next, add a sweet sea-grass basket for blankets and an old fashion outdoorsy Santa Clause.

This year's decorating consisted of using mostly what we have on hand,  borrowing from the family what they are not using, shopping at the dollar store, and looking for free cutting of Christmas trees.  It was nice using some fresh pieces and creating some new things.
