A way to add character and warmth to your white kitchen is with copper. These copper kitchen decor ideas are simple and beautiful, whether your copper is new or antique. I will show you four places where I have added copper accents in my kitchen design. This will give you an idea of creating a kitchen with copper accents in your home.

Kitchen copper accents

The color and patina of copper add so much character and style to kitchen decor, especially if you have a white kitchen.  If you love vintage or antique styles, you will love adding this warm metal to your decor.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Decorating with Copper in your Kitchen

Before we dive into adding copper accents to your kitchen, let's discuss the pros and cons of using copper in your home decor. If you love the look of aged copper when it turns a dark amber color, you can skip this part, but if you love the look of the rosy bright copper color, then this accessory will need to be cleaned on a weekly or monthly basis.

Keeping your copper clean is easy if you know my tricks. You can check out my post on how to keep your copper shiny the easy way. But for now, let's talk about several reasons why copper makes a great decoration.

Copper is great to cook with, making it a perfect, useful decoration in your kitchen.  I love using decor that can be used every day! And if you have a white kitchen, then copper is a great way to create warm and cozy feeling. But you might be asking, is copper in style?

Is copper in style for kitchen?

Copper is a timeless metal that can easily be used in modern kitchen designs and traditional home decor. Because copper is fabulous cookware to prepare food with it will never go out of style. So if you are considering copper for decoration or cooking go ahead and use it for your decor.

Now that we know a little about copper and that it is timeless, let's start looking at copper accent ideas.

Best Copper Kitchen Accent Ideas

In our kitchen, we have copper in four places. One place is very obvious and, in some ways, helps anchor the room. In three other places, my copper accessories are minimal but the effect goes a long way. Here are four copper accent ideas.

  • Copper pots, pans, and mugs over the stove
  • Copper on shelves and hooks
  • Copper hardware on appliances
  • Copper wall decor

Copper Cookware over Stove

If there is one place you can use copper to make a statement, it is with cookware hanging over your stove or on a pot rack. The best part about copper cookware accents is that you can display it as a decoration or, if you cook with copper, you now have a great place to store it.

I found this copper at an antique/thrift store a months ago.  It was an inexpensive purchase which was perfect because I wasn’t sure I wanted copper over my stove as a decoration, so it was a the perfect way to test out what would be a great first step.

Copper accents over a stove

I found two frying pans, and we had these antique mugs that belonged to my husband's parents.  So to try out if I like the copper hanging over my stove, I used command hooks as a temporary solution.  After a week, I found I loved copper, so I decided on a more permanent option.

Hanging the Copper Cookware

When I shared on Instagram about testing the copper idea on my stove, I couldn't believe how many people liked this post. Many people liked the idea of using command hooks so they wouldn't have to drill into their ceramic tile and I also found the idea of copper accents was a popular choice.

Next, I shopped for a pot holder rack and found this silver one at Ikea, but I wanted a copper color.  So I spray painted it with Behr antique copper spray paint.

Copper pot rack for over a stove

I love this paint!  This one can of paint has done several projects now.

Next, we hung the pot holder, and I set the copper pans on the hooks.  If you are like me and are not sure you will love having copper or anything hang on your tile wall over your stove, try the command hook idea first. I lived with my temporary copper idea for weeks before I made a longer-term commitment. Now I'm convinced it was the perfect addition to my kitchen.

Now a hanging pot rack over your stove is one way to decorate with copper pots or copper pans in your kitchen, but here is another simple and nostalgic idea.

Copper Kitchen Accents on Shelves or Hooks

Another place for copper is on shelves or hanging on hooks or, in my case, a dish rack.  This handmade dish rack is a DIY project I made with my brother-in-law and I love that this piece has a story.  I designed the rack, and we made it together.  Actually, he did most of the making, and I helped.  LOL!

Antique copper accent of a ladle hanging on a dishrack

Anyways, consider hanging or setting copper on shelves or a dish rack. Perhaps you have a beautiful statement piece such as a copper bowl, copper canisters, or moscow mule mugs. If you have white cabinets or open shelving, the copper will display beautifully. It is a good design to repeat patterns in a room.  Here is where I repeated the copper color with a favorite piece of mine, am antique copper ladle.

Antique copper ladle hanging on a hook in a white kitchen

One thing to consider. Copper stands out when placed against something white or light-colored. It would have almost disappeared if I had put copper on my shelf. But hanging it against a white or light-colored wall will help the copper show more. Copper would also be lovely on a white marble countertop.

For more information about the paint colors in my kitchen, check out my Life on Summerhill paint colors post. And my small french country kitchen tour has lots of information, too.

Now you could stop by placing copper in two spots in your kitchen, and these two places would be enough, depending on how much copper you want to include. But here are a few more copper detail ideas.

Copper Accents on Appliances

Look for appliances that have copper handles or details. On my stove, which is a GE cafe range and refrigerator, is a copper ring on the gold handles.  It is very small, but great designs are in the details.  I love these shiny copper accents. They are the perfect finishing touches with an elegant look. Gold and copper look great together, especially if your gold has a warm tone.

Copper accent on a ge cafe gas range

There are many appliances with copper details like copper knobs; some have more than mine which is just a touch of copper. And if you are going for a vintage aesthetic in your kitchen, then appliances with copper is worth checking into.

Also, consider a copper hood. I wanted copper to be an accent, so I didn't use copper on my hood, but if you adore copper, you will love the look of a copper range hood.

Kitchen Copper Accents on Walls

Here are fun and inexpensive ways to add copper to your kitchen by decorating your walls with copper. I do not regularly have any copper wall decor in my kitchen except for the copper cookware hanging over my stove and antique ladle. But this fall, I decided to add copper decorations.

I went to my favorite vintage stores and found a copper plate and copper flue plate. After I got home, I simply tied them with a jute cord and hung them on the hooks in my kitchen sitting area. Now I have fall decorations made of copper.

Decorating your kitchen with copper

If you want to add copper to your kitchen for fall, another idea is to shop for copper molds or wall art with copper; then, you have a great way to add it to your walls. You can hang them on a gallery wall or place a few pieces with other art or accessories.

I recently saw the cutest bunny mold made of copper, and I am seriously thinking about adding it to the walls in my kitchen, or maybe I could hanging over my stove.

You may even consider a copper backsplash or light fixtures such as copper pendant lights.

That wraps up my best ideas for adding copper accents to a kitchen. Remember, white kitchens are great for copper details. The white makes the copper stand out and shine.

Here is a photo of my whole kitchen so you can see how it came together.

Conclusion

So what do you think? Are you ready to try copper accents in your kitchen, or did you inherit some copper, and now you are trying to figure out what to do with them? There are so many beautiful copper cookware items you can buy, new or old. Etsy is a great place to shop for new and antique copper cookware and copper molds.

If you want new copper cookware, shop at William and Sonoma. They have the most beautiful copper cookware that would be great for cooking food and beautiful hanging on your pot rack. Plus, you know it is safe to cook on for your friends and family.

Now I would love to know if you already have copper accents in your kitchen. If so, please share about your copper and how you display it in the heart of your home. I would love to hear your copper decor idea. I hope you have found this post helpful, and I hope you are having a wonderful day.

Happy Decorating!

If you love the idea of a French country kitchen but don't think you have the space for it, think again! With a few key design elements, you can easily transform your small kitchen into a charming and inviting space that feels like a little piece of France.

Small french country kitchen makeover

We have been adding french country farmhouse elements to our kitchen for over a year. Our kitchen is over 20 years old. The appliances were starting to trouble us, and the style looked dated. It has been a slow process to make all the changes because we didn't want to borrow money and wanted to do most of the projects ourselves.

I love the look of the beautiful kitchens in french country homes and wanted to bring that into my kitchen space. Good news – whether you have a large kitchen or small, you can bring these french country kitchen ideas to your home.

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I receive a commission if you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you. All opinions are all my own.

Small French Country Kitchen

Thankfully our kitchen is finished. Here is a kitchen tour of our small french country kitchen and tips on how you can transform your kitchen with french countryside elements.

1. Kitchen Walls

One of the first places we started transforming our kitchen was the walls. We painted over the wallpaper and gave it a nice light blue color by Sherwin Williams called Rhinestone. In some light, it looks white with a hint of blue, but in other lights, it is a perfect powder blue.

Sherwin Williams First Star painted on kitchen cabinetry

Paint is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to transform a whole room. Simply by changing the wall color, you can immediately change the mood. When it comes to french country paint colors, think soft whites, warm neutrals, muted shades of blue, green, oranges, and reds.

But because this project took so long, I started to change my mind about the paint color. I painted the accent wall and cabinets in our bathroom, Repose Gray, by Sherwin Williams. I fell in love with this color and had enough paint to repaint the kitchen. So now the walls are Repose Gray.

Next is the wall behind the range. Between the cabinets, we installed subway tiles. I figured white subway tiles would be perfect if I wanted to change colors or do any other styles in the future. Plus, I had plans for a different range with no upper back.

2. Kitchen Cabinets

Our next biggest project was the cabinets. In our last home, we painted our cabinets white. Well, in this home, they were a dark stain finish. This finish was great for 20 years when we were raising our daughters, but for a french country kitchen, I wanted a bright and light kitchen again.

We first painted all the cabinets with Sherwin Williams First Star. This was a simple project but took time. In another blog post, I have all the details on how to paint cabinets without sanding. After a couple of years, they are holding up beautifully. I believe they'll stand the test of time.

Cabinet paint color First Star by Sherwin Williams

Our next step was the range hood. Here is where we brought the french country vibe into the space. We went with a curved style hood and then painted it and gave it a blue rustic paint finish.

Curved hood design for a small french country kitchen

Remember me mentioning I changed the wall paint color. Well, when we painted the hood, the color of Rhinestone was too blue for the room, so this is another reason why we changed the wall color to Repose Gray.

3. Cabinet Hardware

Now that the cabinets were painted and the wall color was set, we focused on the cabinet hardware. I came across this gorgeous champagne gold pull. It was larger, so we had to fill our current holes and make new ones, but it was perfect!

Champagne gold cabinet hardware

Once we had the cabinet hardware in place, this is where I started planning the new appliances. I wanted appliances that fit a modern kitchen but had a vintage farmhouse french country vibe.

4. Vintage Style Appliances

I searched high and low for many different styles of modern appliances with a vintage look. There were many wonderful options, but we returned to the GE Cafe with gold finishes. However, we started with the dishwasher, which was not Cafe, because my current one died on me.

Dishwashers, in general, do not have a vintage vibe. And since the first thing you saw when you entered my house and kitchen was a dishwasher, I thought it was time to hide it. Our best option was the Bosch panel front dishwasher.

You might be wondering what a panel front dishwasher is. Well, it is a dishwasher that comes without a front. It's a great way to customize your dishwasher's appearance. So we built a cabinet front out of the cabinet doors from my master bathroom. We were so lucky they fit perfectly. See why I painted my kitchen cabinets in the middle of the kitchen renovation.

Now let's go back to talking about the GE Cafe appliances. The price point was in my budget, and when we held the cabinet hardware up to the Cafe gold, it was a perfect match. It was almost as if someone was telling me that these were the appliances meant for my kitchen.

First, we selected the range, which was easy because I currently had a gas top and oven. Since we eat at home 95% of the time and cook a lot, I wanted a range that suited me. The Cafe was perfect!

I originally wanted something hidden for the refrigerator, but I knew I needed a water filtration system, and all the hidden options required additional water filtration in a nearby cabinet. So I went with the GE Cafe french style fridge and then closed it in with my current cabinets.

Cottage country kitchen

We simply pulled the upper cabinet forward and built a wall down the side. It worked like a charm, and it is an elegant design, having the large gold handles on the fridge on that side of the room.

5. Maintaining the Traditional Country Atmosphere

Now, if you are wondering where my microwave is, well, way back in the beginning, when we decided to vent our exhaust fan through the roof, I pulled the microwave down and created a hidden microwave inside our small pantry.

Microwave pantry

Microwaves are not a traditional feature in a typical french country kitchen. Hiding modern-looking appliances helps keep the space in the character of french farmhouse kitchens.

We have a larger closet in the hall, which I am transforming into a vintage pantry, so we didn't need this small pantry for food. It is now the perfect place for a small appliance and dish pantry. Later I added our convection oven too.

Now that we have discussed decorating your french country kitchen with modern appliances let's get to the fun part: accessories and decorations.

6. Vintage Style Faucet

Consider an antique-looking faucet when planning your vintage kitchen, whether it is french, English, or any style.

Here is a modern version faucet that looks old. Our kitchen is a modern suburban kitchen. Adding this chrome faucet helps give it that antique kitchen of France look.

7. Rugs Bring it All Together

This is truly where the french country style takes form. To start, this kitchen needed a rug with colors to pull the blue range hood, white cabinet, and wall color together. I knew this would be the rug that gets the most washing, so I went with something inexpensive.

I found this McGee & Co rug at Target and I plan to pressure wash it about twice a year. We have had it down for over six months now, and it is time to give it a washing. LOL!

GE Cafe range in vintage style

8. French Country Kitchen Decorations

Next, let's talk about the decor pieces around the range. I wanted useful and practical decor in my cooking space. To the right of the stove, I added cutting boards to the wall, standing them up.

Then in front are our most used oils and a salt dish. And last, I added this adorable mini olive tree as a decoration. Items like these add sweet rustic elements. Everything around the stove has a purpose except for this little olive tree. LOL! It is just there for looks.

Vintage accessories in a kitchen

On the other side are two containers to hold wooden spoons, ladles, and rolling pins. The crock belonged to my husband's mother, who knows how old it is. It could have been her mother's because three generations lived in their house. And next to the crock is an old salt glaze pitcher I found at an antique shop locally. Antique shops and flea markets can be a treasure trove of vintage pieces like these.

Antique crock and salt glaze pitcher holding wooden spoons and rolling pin

Now over the stove, I thought this would be a great place to hang pots we use, but I wanted something pretty and useful, so I started shopping for copper pans.

The copper is hanging on an Ikea rod. When I picked it up, they didn't have copper color options, so I took some Behr spray paint in the color copper and painted it to match. It was an easy way to create the perfect french country design.

9. French Country Kitchen Accents

Our copper ladle on the dish rack by the sink is an antique piece I found locally that complements our french country decor. Since I don't plan to use it, I polished it up with Bar Keepers Friend, and it hangs as a decoration. You can find more ideas on decorating with copper accents here. And don't miss this post on how to keep your copper shiny the easy way. This brings us to more decorations.

This dish rack is the perfect spot for decor, and many items are useful too. I added my grandmother's Currier & Ives dishes to the top. Another salt glaze-type vintage pitcher to the shelf and then french country decorations underneath.

Small French country kitchen

Any rack where you can hang stuff is perfect for that french country kitchen vibe. I hung one of grandma's teacups, a mini basket I use to pick herbs outside, and candles. Rustic elements are perfect in a french country-style kitchen. Accessories warm up a space and add french country flair.

Fall fruit in wooden bowl

Next, a wooden bowl full of fruit and some vegetables are under the dish rack. Bowls and accessories made of natural materials are a great idea to maintain the french country decor. Again, this decoration is useful. I found the Target bowl, which is also a McGee piece.

Fruit in a wooden bowl and vintage accessories hanging from homemade plate rack

Conclusion

Well, that pretty much wraps up everything we did to the kitchen to give it that farmhouse french country vibe. Most of my home is a simple farmhouse style, but I love adding touches of curves and ornate decor to give a simple farmhouse french country look with a touch of rustic elegance.

If you want a video kitchen tour check out my YouTube video. I walk through the entire space and share the appliances, paint finishes, and vintage pieces belonging to family members.

Are you thinking of decorating in the french country style in your kitchen? I'd love to hear your french country kitchen ideas and how you bring European charm into your home.

Here you will learn how to organize kitchen cabinets, cupboards, counters, and drawers along with tips on keeping them arranged on a daily basis.

How to organize your kitchen cabients

When I was growing up I learned how to organize kitchen cabinets from my mom. She basically taught me how to organize in zones. This technique makes working in the kitchen more efficient and time-saving.

I didn't know how efficient it was until she came to my house and set up my kitchen when we moved.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you purchase at no cost to you using the links below.  All opinions are all my own.

How to Organize Kitchen Cabinets

how to organize your kitchen

Where does a person begin when organizing their kitchen? What is the most efficient way to organize kitchen cabinets?

The first step is assessing what items you have and how you use them. I would suggest beginning with thinking about your kitchen in compartments or spaces according to the task that you do the most.  Assigning kitchen space or cabinet space to common tasks can go a long way to saving you a lot of time.

Here are the zones I have in my kitchen.

Cooking and Baking Zone

Let's start with the cooking/baking zone.

Organize kitchen in zones

When unpacking or rearranging your kitchen think about the cooking and/or baking zone.

My cooking/baking zone is right next to my oven.  I keep my spices, utensils, hot pads, pots, and pan here.

Organizing cabinets in kitchen

As you can see from my photo the second and top-shelf holds all the things I need for baking.

Flour, baking soda, powder, measuring spoons, cups, and so on fit on those two shelves.  Spices are on the bottom with everything from thyme to salt. A shelf riser or lazy Susan is a great way to give you easy access to small items and maximize storage space.

The higher shelves are a good place to store items you do not frequently use, duplicate items, or seasonal items. The lower cabinets are the perfect place to store pots and cookie sheets.

Some people like their flour and sugar containers hidden but lately, I have enjoyed mine on the counter. It gives you easy access to products you use often and today there are so many beautiful food storage container options like glass jars that are airtight and chemical free.

Shop supplies:

CLEANING ZONE

Cleaning station in kitchen

Here is another kitchen organizing zone that revolved around something and that is the sink.

So how do you organize the kitchen sink area you might be wondering?

Think about what all you need to clean your dishes and kitchen.

If you are a less is more person then consider keeping most of your cleaning items under the sink but if you like to decorate with them then consider a cake plate with some pretty bottles and such on the counter.

I am less is more kind of person so a few items on the counter make me happy. Next to the sink, you will find a few pretty bottles like Mrs. Meyer's hand soap and Meyer's dish soap bottles or in my case an amber bottle with my favorite hand soap inside.

Don't forget to utilize all your cabinet space like the inside of your cabinet doors where you can hang dish towels. If you have little ones and store your cleaning supplies under your sink, it's a good idea to add child proof devices to the doors to keep the little ones safe.

Speaking of dish towels a great place to store dishtowel is over your refrigerator in a basket. And if your refrigerator could use a refresh, check out the best ways to organize your side by side refrigerator.

Storage for towels

Also, consider placing all your dishes between the sink and the stove in the cabinets or on the shelves.  That way they are easy to put up after they are dry.

COFFEE ZONE

Organizing your kitchen with a coffee station

Because my hubby loves coffee and the last thing you want to do is run around the kitchen in the morning getting everything together.  I created a coffee zone.

If you want to keep everything neat consider placing the coffee pot, sugar, and anything else on a tray like this one.  That way it can be easily pulled out to put the water in it and placed back neatly when finished. Decorative storage bins can be fun and keep things in easy reach.

BREAKFAST ZONE

How to organize kitchen cabinets by zones. A breakfast zone with a mason jar full of oats and other jars with toppings.

I am not a morning person so in our house I needed everything to be in one place.  It also just happens I eat the same thing every morning and that is oatmeal.  So, here is my breakfast zone with oatmeal, and all the garnishments. Grouping dry goods with similar items gives you easy access to items you use together.

I also have pancake mix here, grits, tea, and so on.

Wire baskets or plastic organizers are a brilliant way to store loose items and create a lovely aesthetic, especially if you have glass front doors or open shelves.

If you are not a morning person I would highly recommend this area to you too.  Also, this zone is close to the coffee zone.

One last area I want to mention in our kitchen is the microwave dish pantry. This is a great place to store your dishes and hide your microwave. This was especially important to me when designing my kitchen into a french country kitchen. Here is how we created a microwave pantry.

CONCLUSION

Thankfully my kitchen is average in size so there are not too many steps to go from one area to another.  But in real large kitchen zones are very important.  It saves a great deal of time and energy. If you have a small kitchen you probably do not have extra storage space so your kitchen zones assign a proper place to every item to keep things tidy. There are many different ways and kitchen cabinet organization ideas that can work for your family members.

Here is a recap of how to organize kitchen cabinets by zones.

I hope this post will help make your kitchen a little more manageable and I have included some fun suggestions to help with your kitchen organizing zones project too.

  • Cooking/baking zone – pots, pans, hot pads, small appliances, stove, microwave, cooking and baking materials like flour and spices
  • Cleaning zone – cleaners like dishwashing liquid, dishes, dishwasher, drying rack if you need one and so on
  • Coffee zone – coffee pot, coffee, sugar, Splenda and so on (it's also great to have this zone near the baking zone since sugar and sweeteners play in both areas)
  • Breakfast zone – all the food items you need for breakfast ( it's good to have this area near coffee and baking also because spices and sugar are needed here too)

Well, I hope this helps you think through your kitchen and what your daily tasks are.

When you decide to do some rearranging here is one last thought.

If you haven't used an item in the last five years consider donating it to someone who may need it more than you.  It will free up more space in your kitchen and make like even less cluttered. Or if you need a little extra space, see how I turned a closet into a pantry.

And if you are really motivated and want to do some more organizing check out How to Use Pinterest to Organize Your Home and Organizing 101.  It will give you tips on how to make your organized space pretty too.

This DIY pot lid holder tutorial is simple to follow and will make your kitchen organization look amazing and more efficient. These cookware lid holders are nested on the inside of your cabinet doors out of the way and easy to access. With only a few supplies you can have your whole cookware cabinet organized in no time.

Pot lid holder DIY

While visiting my daughter and son-in-law I was excited to see Jesse had done a DIY pot lid holder project on his kitchen cabinets. Immediately I knew this was the answer to my overwhelming cookware lid holder problem.

After talking to Jesse I also discovered this to be a simple project that almost anyone could do without a handyman or woodworker. It is the perfect solution to your pot lid chaos.

DIY Pot Lid Holder

With all DIY projects, you will need a few supplies, and this project calls for simple tools. I used my miter saw but if you don't have one and really want to make it easy for yourself ask your local hardware store if they would cut the pieces for you.

Here are the supplies needed to organize your pot lids on the inside cabinet doors. I got all my supplies at Home Depot.

Pot Lid Organizer DIY

Now let's get to the nitty-gritty and start making your pot lid organizer. And at the end, I am sharing my pans cabinet along with tips on organizing it too. First, let's cut the blocks.

Cut Blocks for Pot Lid Organizer

Depending on how many cabinet doors you plan to store your lids will determine how many blocks you will need. I only did two doors so I only needed eight blocks. That is two per lid holder.

Now simply cut each block at 1″ long. Sand the edges of any splinters and your blocks are ready.

DIY pot lid holder cabinet door

Nail Blocks to Inside Cabinet Door

Next, let's nail the blocks on the side of the cabinet door to make the pot lid rack.

Keep in mind that your lid holder may not go all the way to the edge on the inside of the cabinet door. If your door is an overlay style you will need to leave space for it to shut. My door overlay is about 1/2″ on each side. But not all doors have an overlay style. Some are inset doors. In that case, you don't have to worry about the overlay.

DIY pots and pans lid organizer

Place one block on one side of the frame or edge of the door. The inside of my door has a frame so I set mine on the frame. If you don't have a frame then you can sit yours anywhere.

Once you find the spot where you want your first block to sit nail it in with your nail gun or finishing nail. But make sure you are considering the slot width. Measure your pot lids to make sure they will fit.

DIY pot lid holder for cabinet doors

Now to measure over from the other side of the door and place your other block. Grab your level to make this easy or measure down from the top.

Pot lid holder DIY

Measure Inside Cabinet Door

Next, you will need to do some measuring. We are measuring to cut the long piece of lattice strip that will sit on the blocks to hold the lid.

Measure across from the outside of one block to the outside of the other block.

Cut the lattice strips based on the measurements and then sand the splinters off the ends.

Nail the Lid Holder Rack Rails

Next, sit the lattice strips on the blocks and nail down the lid holder rail. And guess what? You are done. See how easy this DIY pot lid holder project is. I love how it turned out and it is solid construction.

DIY Pot Lid Storage

Last, grab your lids and place them on the inside of the cabinet. You will notice they nestle in nicely. Now when I need a lid all I have to do is open the door and pick it up. I don't have to bend over and reach inside the cabinet.

What inspired me to get my cookware cabinet organized are these Caraway pots and pans. Because I am eating more fresh foods now and cooking more and my pots and pans are old with Teflon inside I decided to move towards better cookware.

DIY pot cover holder

I have had the Caraway cookware now over 6 months and they are by far my favorite to cook in. Plus the way I organized my cookware station is making cooking easier too.

As you may notice different size lids sit on these pot lid racks but the larger pot lids won't fit. I have a solution for that too.

I actually moved my cookware to a different spot in the kitchen and I also added shelves on the inside at the very top of the cabinet for the larger lids and pot racks. If you have more room at the top you can make multiple lid racks but I only had room for one if you include my pot organizer.

Cookware Storage Idea

I was able to add a large lid shelf and another shelf as a pot and pan organizer. You see, all this wasted space in the top of your cabinet is useful real estate. There is a lot of space up there for a pan organizer. A great way to create vertical storage for a selection of pan lids, dutch ovens, and large cookware.

Isn't this a great idea! We have pretty much changed our pot holders cabinet to work more functionally.

Large pot lid holder DIY

Conclusion

Now when I need a lid it only takes a second. No more lids falling everywhere or pots stacked one on top of the other with the lids turned upside down on the pot.

Pot lid storage DIY

You may have noticed I also bought a pans organizer for my cast iron skillets. It works for now but I am thinking of building something in the back for them too.

Now that we have your cookware cabinet organized here are more organizing kitchen posts.

I hope this DIY project has been helpful. If you are in need of new cookware check out Caraway Home. They are very durable and beautiful too.

Here you will learn how to choose the best faucet for your kitchen. After years of kitchen designing here are my go-to tips on choosing the right faucet for your kitchen style.
How to choose the best kitchen faucet

Whether you are getting new cabinets, updating your kitchen, or you need a new faucet you are probably asking how to choose the best faucet.

We are going to talk style and function when choosing a kitchen faucet and believe it or not picking out a faucet is fun when you know what to look for.

Recently we gave my daughter's kitchen a facelift by painting the cabinets. So as we work through what to look for in a kitchen faucet I will use my daughters kitchen as an example.

This post is sponsored by Pfister Faucets: however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

How to Choose the Best Faucet for Kitchen?

When looking for the best faucet for your kitchen there are certain things you need to look for. Here is a list of what is important.

  • Faucet finish
  • Number of holes on the sink
  • Faucet Height
  • Sprayer
  • Durability
  • Style

Faucet Finish

Before you jump into all the details begin by determining your faucets finish. Common finishes are polished chrome, brushed chrome, bronze, gold, and so on.

How to choose the best kitchen faucet finish for your kitchen

Whether you are designing a new kitchen or working with an existing kitchen see what finishes you already have or have planned. What is your cabinet hardware, lighting finish, hood over your stove if you have one, and appliance finish?

In my daughter's kitchen, her appliances are black and stainless, the hardware is black, and the sink is stainless so we decided to go with black.

Number of Hole on Sink

Next, you need to determine how many holes you have to fill in the sink. If you are getting a new sink then the sky is the limit and you can skip this step.

Matte black kitchen faucet with a deckplate

However, if you are working with an existing sink then you need to know the number of holes. In our case, we had three holes for the faucet and one hole for a soap dispenser or separate sprayer.

Now you do not have to go with a faucet that needs three holes because most faucets have a deck plate you can use to cover the holes. However, make sure it comes with the faucet or you may have to purchase it separately.

So now I know we need either a faucet that will fit into three holes, a soap dispenser or separate sprayer or a deck plate for the faucet.

How tall should your kitchen faucet be?

This is a step that many people do not even know they need to consider. Do you have a sink that is not very deep and a faucet that does not have a long high neck? Then you probably know how challenging it is to wash a deep pot in the sink.

So let's measure how deep you sink is and then measure your deepest pot. I also like to place the pot in the sink and measure from the bottom of the sink to the top of the pot.

Now, this is an indication of how high of a neck you want when shopping. But let me make this even easier. I almost always go with a higher neck on kitchen faucets because you can never go wrong with added space to wash large items.

Tall neck on a matte black kitchen faucet for easy washing of dishes

A high neck on a faucet will make all the difference in the world. My advice look for a high neck.

Sprayer

As I mentioned before you may or may not have an extra hole to fill. If you do you can fill it with a matching soap dispenser or a separate sprayer.

Sprayer attached the to a matte black tall neck faucet

For function, I look to recommend a faucet where the sprayer is integrated into the neck of the faucet so that a soap dispenser can be placed in the extra hole.

As for the sprayer, this one has two features that make washing dishes much easier and quicker. First, it has Hydroblade technology. This means the pressure of the spray will break through any food stuck to the dishes.

The second feature is the Auto-align sprayer. When you are finished using the spray it retreats back into its spot with ease.

I love appliances that make life easier!!

Durability

If you have a hard-working kitchen where your faucet will be used a lot then spend some extra and get a commercial faucet or a high-end faucet.

You do not have to compromise style to get a faucet that will withstand lots of traffic. Pfister is one company I like to look at for more durable options for home use. Their higher-end prices faucets are made to withstand lots of use.

Function

Think about what all you will be washing in your sink. Think about how you have washed dishes in the past. If you will be dealing with hard to remove food on dishes then you might want to take your faucet a step up and get one with a stronger spray technology.

Pfister faucet new spray technology on kitchen faucet

If you are more of a rinse and put in the dishwasher kind of person then you may not need this until holiday events or parties.

Style

Last let's talk about what style of faucet to purchase that will fit into your kitchen design.

My daughter's home is a minimalist Scandinavian design. She and her husband like to keep things tidy and organized. We already knew a black faucet would fit but then it was time to look at styles.

Matte black faucet for farmhouse kitchen sink

There are styles from traditional to contemporary and everything in between. In their home, we knew some simplistic would be perfect. Nothing fussy, very functional, clean lines, and sleek.

But what about your kitchen. Are you a cottage farmhouse style person who loves antiques? Then I would look for a retro design. Or if you are a person who is a modern farmhouse then I would look for a sleek design but maybe with a more decorative handle.

If you are looking for the best kitchen faucets for farmhouse sinks, you won't have a shortage of options.

The main thing is to look around your space and see what will fit into your design.

Pfister Norden Faucet

So you are probably wondering what kind of faucet my daughter ended up within her home. She decided a black faucet in a sleek style would fit nicely in her kitchen. We needed a three-hole faucet but since sleek was her goal we decided on one hole with a deck plate and a soap dispenser because they both don't like much on the counters.

After working with Pfister we came up with the

One [1] Norden Kitchen Faucet in Matte Black
One [1] SoloTilt Soap Dispenser in Matte Black
One [1] Decorative Deckplate in Matte Black (Model: 961-201B)

This faucet fit in beautifully and it is amazing!!!

Farmhouse Kitchen Faucet in a white kitchen

Conclusion

The Pfister Norden faucet was more than we imagined. The style, finish, quality, and function exceeds our expectations.

The neck moves right and left smoothly and it has three different spray functions. One spray function removes hard food deposits which are nice when food is left on pots and pans to long.

The sprayer is integrated but comes out with ease and is long enough to rinse out the sink after cleaning.

And the soap dispenser is different than what we expected but we love it. Most dispenser release soap by pushing down on eh back but this one you tap on the front. We find it even easier to dispense.

I am so glad to be sharing with you this Pfister faucet because overall twenty years of interior design experience I have found Pfister to have the most beautiful designs. They are a great place to start.

Now that you have your faucet dilemma solved you might be wanting more kitchen ideas and I have loads more on my kitchen category on the menu.

I hope this guide has been helpful. Good luck with your faucet shopping.

If you've gone back and forth on painting your cabinetry in gray or white, you're in good company. When we were first selecting a paint color for our kitchen cabinets, we thought we'd go with Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. That felt a little too gray for the look we wanted. With a white backsplash and white countertops, we didn't want too white.

That's the short story of how we got to the perfect solution of Sherwin Williams First Star SW 7646. This white is a slight gray paint color with light blue undertones. We are so happy with how it turned out.

CONCLUSION

Considering having your microwave built into a kitchen island is another perfect place to hide a microwave.

Just having your microwave sitting on your countertop in your kitchen can be a total eye-sore. And if you have a small kitchen, it's a great way to free up counter space. Hiding away your microwave is a great idea! You don't have to only hide your microwave. You can create a whole appliance garage to hide away all of the goodies you have in your kitchen.
