Decorating with vintage scales is adorable and gives so much character to any farmhouse style interior. And, they are fun to use in your decorations.
There is something sweet about decorating with vintage scales! Which is my first reason for wanting to write this post. With so many shapes and sizes, the options are endless when decorating with scales.
Vintage scales can be found wherever you find your vintage treasures including flea markets, an estate sale, yard sale, thrift store, antique shop or you can find vintage inspired scales at big box stores.
Let's begin with a few scale ideas from friends, and then I will show you ideas in my home on how to decorate with vintage scales.

DECORATING WITH VINTAGE SCALES
Vintage scales can add character to your home decor. Actually, just about anything old can add character, which is my second reason for wanting to write about decorating with vintage scales.
Farmhouse Scale Decor
This adorable rustic scale looks so pretty in front of this old window. I love how she placed lavender on the scale as a part of her decorations.
Since everyone was so crazy about our last Vintage Scales post, which is the last reason why I thought it would be fun to show you how to decorate with vintage scales.
So, let's tour my home, and I will show you how to accessorize these precious pieces.
Vintage Kitchen Scale Decor
This is the first scale I've used to decorate with and I found the perfect spot for it in more than one room. Did I tell you that someone let me borrow this adorable scale? It was so much fun to decorate with, and now I want one for myself! Haha!
This sweet scale is actually a mail scale, but I love the color and how it fits into our kitchen decor. It's a unique piece that adds wonderful personality to our kitchen counter.
Kitchens are probably the most famous places for decorating with vintage scales. Checking around your own home is an easy way to find accessories to complement your vintage scale.
In fact, our Amazon Finds to Create a Beautiful Farmhouse Kitchen has some great items to consider when decorating.
Start with the scale and build your design around it.
In my case, I already had my rabbit wooden spoon holder, and this scale was just a little too short sitting next to it. So I raised it a little with an old Better Homes and Gardens cookbook.
Next, I added a few items of different textures and sizes and worked them around the scale.
But the icing on the cake was adding a beautiful red apple on top.
Decorating your Office with Vintage Scales
Well, I haven't taken you all into my office before, but this “mailing” scale just had to find a home in the office.
Again, start with the scale and choose where to display it.
In my case, I decided to put a book under it so it would pop against the dark wood.
Next, add a few more favorites and pretty office supplies, and don't forget some Rae Dunn.
Oh, you know where else a vintage scale would be adorable? On a Rae Dunn tiered tray, and just in case you don't know about the most popular farmhouse decor right now, check out Irresistible Rae Dunn Trays for a Happy Heart.
Decorating Your Living Room with Vintage Scales
Remember that photo at the beginning. Well, it's time to talk about the living room.
Did I talk about how simple it is to accessorize?
Let's start with a tray because our office table is an ottoman.
So, a tray gives it stability, then add a kitchen towel or some fabric for another texture. Next, add a plant and a figurine like this bird.
And last, top off your scale with a candle tied with a bow. This would also be a wonderful arrangement on a coffee table or side table.
Vintage Decorating on Hutch in Kitchen Sitting Room
So, I thought the living room would be the last place to share, but I forgot about the hutch.
For this space, I decided a cute tea theme would be fun.
Pull together some tea items and start decorating. Start with the scale, then pull other things thinking about different heights, textures, and such.
And if you have a cute teacup, add it as the topper.
Now not all scales look like this little guy. There are different kinds of scales for home decorating. Here are a few favorite and popular pieces.
Decorative Balance Scale
When decorating with scales, don't limit yourself to just one type of scale. There are so many options when shopping. You can even look at balance scales. These are the scales with plates on each side where you balance items in each bowl to determine weight and balance.
Hanging Farmhouse Scales
This is a popular vintage kitchen scale decoration. Hanging scales look so good nestled in the corner of a vintage style kitchen. They also work great if you don't have much counter space for your scale.
Decorative Antique Style Scale
Last, also consider a new scale that looks old. I love decorating with vintage items, but sometimes I cannot find what I want, so I start looking for vintage-looking items. There are a lot of vintage vibe scales available. They still look amazing, and you can keep looking for a real antique while enjoying the design you had in mind.
Frequently asked questions:
How do you clean old scales?
It's an important thing to keep your antique scale in good condition but you need to be careful when cleaning it. I'll share what I found is the best way to clean your vintage scale. Use a warm soapy rag to clean your scale, and then rinse with another clean rag. I wouldn't submerge the scale in water unless it doesn't have any parts that will hold in water. If your scale comes apart, take each piece and clean them separately and then place them back together.
CONCLUSION
If you love anything vintage and adore home decorating, add vintage scales to your list. There are so many different styles to choose from. You're sure to find one and now you can find a great way to display it in the perfect place in your home. And when you get your little treasure, follow this checklist on how to style it.
- Scale: start by placing your scale.
- Existing accessory: If you already have an accessory in place make sure your scale is a little higher than this accessory or a little lower.
- Textures: now select some accessories of different textures and start placing them around the scale
- Thirds: think about accessorizing in odd numbers. For some reason, odd numbers create great harmony in design.
Now that you have a mini-lesson on accessorizing, start shopping for this little treasure. Remember decorating with vintage scales will add so much character to your home.
