The fall season is near and a simple way to add autumn is decorating with mini pumpkins. Using real and faux small pumpkins here are ideas to create a cozy feeling to your decorations.

I have a serious weakness for little pumpkins. Whenever the season changes and the temperature drops I get really excited!  I love the fall colors, acorns, pinecones, and most of all decorating with mini pumpkins

Decorating with Mini Pumpkins

When money was tight my favorite way to decorate was picking up fresh or faux little pumpkins from the store and sprinkle them into my decorations at home. It was cheap and inexpensive.

Hopefully, you will be inspired to shop for these small little beauties and start incorporating them into your home decor.

Decorate your Dining Table with Small Pumpkins

Small Pumpkin table decorating

My first creative idea is so easy and can be used when having guests over for dessert.  Sit a miniature pumpkin on a pretty plate. You can set it anywhere or use it as place-setting decorations.

Simply pull out some new kitchen towels and place a dessert plate on the table and top with one small pumpkin.  When your guest finishes their dessert the towel and pretty pumpkin can be a gift for them to take home.

And while we are on the topic of tablescapes consider leaving a beautiful mini pumpkin centerpiece out on your dining table all season long. Using painted pumpkins you can create a centerpiece similar to this by following my full tutorial farmhouse pumpkin centerpiece DIY.

Tiny Pumpkin table centerpiece

Here is another example of how easy it is to decorate with tiny pumpkins. After you place flowers on the center of your table simply sit small pumpkins on each side.

I simply resued old faux tiny fall pumpkins and gave them a coat of white paint. I share more details and images in my Thanksgiving table decorations DIY.

Outdoor Decorating with Pumpkins

Small Pumpkin porch decoration

How many of you love walking up to a front doorstep and finding some beautiful real pumpkins incorporated into their porch decor.  If you have a sculpture of an animal or small child holding a basket then add a small pumpkin gift.

Faux pumpkins wrapped in a natural twine sitting inside a iron wall flower hanger on a front porch for fall.

Another fun idea with baby pumpkins is placing a handful in a basket or on a wall hanging planter. All you need is a little hay and then place nestle them inside.

Your porch is a great place to decorate with small pumpkins. Here are fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget.

Bright color pumpkin wreath

Probably my all-time favorite tiny pumpkin project was this DIY fall bicycle wreath. This wreath incorporates happy autumn feeling with bright colors. If you look closely there are white and orange smaller pumpkins nestled between the beautiful flowers.

Decorating Tables with Baby Pumpkins

Small Pumpkin decor

Another way I love decorating with these little guys in my home decor is to place them next to an end table lamp.  That can be in a bedroom, living room, or study.  It's even okay to add a smaller pumpkin in every room if you want to.

Decorating Bookcases with Miniature Pumpkins

Small Pumpkin decoration

Next, consider sitting a single pumpkin on your bookcase. The bright color of the small pumpkin draws attention to all the wonderful stories you have standing on your bookcase.

Decorating with mini pumpkins

They look cute sitting in bowls on bookcases or just set one next to books. There are so many ways you can incorporate small pumpkins on bookshelves.

Mantle Decor with Little Pumpkins

Fireplace mantle in Sherwin Williams extra white SW 7006

The fireplace is a main focal point in our living room so a natural place to add small pumpkins was on the mantle. Just like the bookcase simple nestle little pumpkins around other decorations.

Add a baby pumpkin on top of a candle lid for a different idea to decorate with mini pumpkins. There are more tips and tricks in this DIY fall decor mantle post.

Decorating mantle with small pumpkins

Here is another idea where I used different colors on small pumpkins. Remember the centerpiece that had pastel-colored pumpkins in it? Well, I used the same mini pumpkins on my mantle.

Consider repeating your tiny pumpkins in another area of your home for a great design element. Sitting these little beauties in a row on your mantle is an easy way to decorate. More details in this fall home tour.

Decorating Tiered Trays with Baby Pumpkins

Decorating a tiered tray with mini pumpkins

Probably one of the easiest ways to use tiny pumpkins in your home decor is on a tiered tray. Once you decide on your color scheme simply place small pumpkins here and there throughout your other fall decorations.

Mini pumpkin decor on tiered tray

I painted several of the pumpkins I used from the year before to match other white pumpkins. It is good to keep a bag of mini faux pumpkins to add to your decorations each year. A little bit of acrylic paint, craft paint, or spray paint and you can change the color in minutes.

More instructions on this 3 tiered wooden stand harvest decorations project.

Where to Buy Mini Pumpkins

Now that we have all these fun ideas to decorate our homes with mini pumpkins you might be asking where do I buy small pumpkins.

If you are looking for a real fresh tiny pumpkin the first place to look is grocery stores. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Walmart, or your local grocery store will carry them when they come in season. You can also look at your local farmer's market or a produce stand. Sometimes local farmers will grow them and sell them at the market.

When I am looking for faux pumpkins I start by searching Amazon. You can find them all year long on Amazon but if you want a deal on mini pumpkins, search at Dollar Tree starting around the beginning of September or Walmart is another favorite.

Conclusion

In addition to baby pumpkins, there are small gourds too and they look just as amazing in fall home decor. You can find them in the grocery store. If you love small gourds simply place one or more in place of any of the ideas I share above.

Next, if you love decorating your pumpkins, carved pumpkins or fun pumpkins then consider using them in place of any of these orange darlings. A carved pumpkin is so cute for Halloween.

Now that you have loads of ideas on pumpkin decorating with tiny pumpkins and you know where to shop for them what fun ideas are stirring in your head. Pick up a few small pumpkins and maybe other decorations and add some autumn color to your home decor.

Let's talk about how to decorate with plants going room by room. We will be looking at plant ideas for the kitchen, bathroom, and porch. Plus the best plants for indoors that help clean the air and make a healthier home.

Best indoor house plants featuring little succulent on a plate.

Decorating with plants is a timeless design element and there are many wonderful benefits to having plants in your home. But I have found it is not easy for everyone to know how to decorate with plants or pick out plants.

Knowing the best indoor house plants for your home is a great place to begin when decorating with plants. Whether you have lots of space or minimal space, a green thumb or not you will be able to find greenery here that will bring life and style to your home.

Plants are more than decorations; they play a part in cleaning the air you breathe inside your home. Today we are going to talk about the best indoor plants, the most popular indoor plants, how they improve our home air quality, and how to decorate with plants.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you make a purchase using the links below.  All opinions are all my own.

How to Decorate with Plants

One of the easiest accessories to decorate your home with is plants and one live plant in a room will, for a lack of better words, give the room life. Plants are great for any room in your homes like the living room, kitchen, home office, and bathroom. But my favorite empty spaces to decorate with plants is windows so let's start with adding plants to windows.

Bathroom Plant Decor Ideas

Decorating with plants in on a window seal

If you are wanting to decorate with live plants then windows are a great place to decorate. Here is a deep window seal in our bathroom where we sit a variety of plants.

A fun way to decorate with plants is to add different coordinating pots or plant bags like white planters, terra cotta pots, and canvas bags. We bought this canvas bag but we made the brown paper lunch bag and have all the directions on this simply DIY paper bag planter.

Another trick to decorating with plants is to mix in a few fake plants. Can you guess which ones are fake plants? The small succulent is an artificial plant.

If your window is not deep then look for tiny pots and plants like my daughter did in her kitchen window. And use different plants in your window.

Kitchen Plant Decor Ideas

Small and large plant decorating ideas.

Grocery stores are a great place to find tiny plants and during holidays they will have really cute plant decor like this skeleton head potted plant. A succulent plant or air plants are perfect for tiny window seats. Air plants like indirect sunlight and are low-maintenance plants. Succulents like direct light and need good drainage.

Decorating with plants in the kitchen

Here is my kitchen window where I have three plants. Kitchens windows are a great place for plants because you have a water source right there and because you go to the kitchen daily it is easy to remember to care for them.

Decorating with herb plants in the kitchen

Herb gardens are also great in kitchens. I created this herb garden from a Dollar Tree pot that I painted and decorated. All the directions on how to make a Dollar Tree DIY indoor herb garden decoration is in the post.

Porch Plant Decor Ideas

How to decorate with plants for beginners

Porches are another great place to decorate with plants. Here is an example of a plant garden in a pot. Your local nursery can help you plan out what to put in your pot or if you are good at planting then you have this covered.

Add container gardens on end tables and smaller plants on shelves like here behind our macrame swing.

An end table and plant stand is a great way to display your plants inside or outside of your home. A large plant can sit on a plant riser or sit on the floor. If you sit large indoor plants on the floor make sure to place a pan under it so water won't damage your floor.

Tall plants, like indoor trees, can be used in small rooms or large and they work nicely in an interior space with high ceilings as well as lower ceilings.

Plant decor ideas like hanging plants

Hanging plants are another way to add plant decor to your porch or any room. Bathrooms love hanging plants too.

Here is a macrame hanger my daughter made and we added small plants to it. This is another great place to put air plants. Remember that upkeep is easy on air plants and since hanging plant holders will be more challenging to water any plants that don't mind being a little dry are easier.

Hanging plants look great in the farmhouse, boho, or cottagecore styles. Here is a post with cottagecore decor ideas.

Plants are great for a large and small space. A small room with one big plant looks as good as a large room.

Now that we have covered how to decorate with plants in different rooms of your home let's talk about the best indoor house plants and why.

Best Indoor House Plants

You know that feeling you get when you are out in nature–walking in a park or down a beautiful trail? All the trees and plants are so refreshing and peaceful!  Well, your home can be a place of tranquility too with plants.  But if you're like me, you may not have a green thumb.  Give me an indoor plant and I will kill it.

Now let me show you how to create a container garden like this one and it stands a chance of living. But indoor plants are another story.

Well, enough about outside let me introduce you to the best indoor house plants starting with the sweetest little plant gem called a succulent.

This little beauty is very popular right now, it is somewhat easy to care for and you can even purchase them on Amazon.

I am convinced Amazon has everything now.

SUCCULENTS

Best indoor house plants featuring a succulent container garden

So remember me telling you we were going to talk about the most popular plant to decorate with right now?  Well, that would be a succulent.

There are so many different things you can do with these delicate plants. You can have one plant placed in an ensemble of accessories, a few sitting in a window, placed in a hanging pot or all together in a precious container.

Macrame hanger holding succulent house plants.

Basically, just start placing them around your room until you find the perfect spot like my daughter did. They love direct sunlight and need light at least six hours a day.

Decorating with Succulents

There are so many things you can do with a succulent.  For example, clustering them together in a bowl, like in this photo.  This little home garden is easy to the eye and adds so much to your home decor.

Just placing it next to some accessories can soften the vignette in seconds or create a windowsill garden as my daughter did in her bedroom.  Using different pots with your plants is a great idea but using certain types of pots like wood or glass jars needs to be considered when decorating.

Look for pots and jars that coordinate with your home decor and make sure they are good for the plant. Something about this reminds me of the '70s.

Retro is alive!

Best indoor plants are succulents.

PLANTS AIR PURIFIERS

Did you know there are many things in your home that produce toxins in the air?  Ammonia, Benzene, Xylene, Formaldehyde, and Trichloroethylene are common chemicals in products you use or have on finishes in your home.

There are many plants that help clean these chemicals, some clean more than others according to NASA.  Yes, NASA did some studies on plants to help clean the air for the astronauts when traveling in outer space.  I figured if it was good for them, then it is good for me.

So check out more details on this NASA post about what plants to get to clean the air in your home.  I was surprised at how many of these air-cleaning plants I have used while decorating people's homes.

I knew plants were good for our air, but didn't realize I was using some of the ones that clean the most chemicals.  That was a bonus for my clients; I just didn't know it at the time.

So here are some of the best indoor plants for cleaning the air in your home and popular indoor plants too.

PEACE LILLY

This is one of the plants I used many times in decorating homes.  I even remember having one in my home. They are pretty hardy and if you neglect to water them, they bounce back quickly.

This plant cleans all these chemicals listed according to NASA.  So if you need some clean air, go purchase a Peace Lilly at Amazon or at your local landscape store. But check out Gardening Know How before you shop for tips on selecting and caring for these air purifiers.

Best indoor plant featuring a peace lily.

ENGLISH IVY

When I was growing up, just about everyone had a real or fake English ivy in their house.  This is a great plant to decorate with.  But did you know that it cleans almost all the chemicals in your home too?

The English ivy is pretty hardy, also.  Here's another link by Gardening Know How that will tell you more about this plant and how to care for it.  And guess what?  Amazon offers English Ivy plants too.  Check it out HERE.

Best indoor plant is an English ivy to name one.

HOW TO CARE FOR SUCCULENTS

Remember me telling you I just about kill every plant I own, which is why you won't find a real plant in my house except for cut flowers.  Well, I decided to do some research on how to care for succulents since my daughter loves them and now has a whole garden in her bedroom.

So, instead of me trying to explain, go check out this post called How to Grow Healthy Succulents Indoors by Succulents & Sunshine.  It's a great resource from what to purchase and how to care for these cute plants.

Best indoor plant is a succulent to name one.

Peace lily and English ivy are very easy to care for. If you press on their soil and it feels dry then that means it is time to give them some water. And if you forget to water them and they start to look droopy you can give them some water and like magic, they will perk up again.

But I had learned over the years that most plants love it when you place a tray of water under their pot so they can drink from the bottom. Keep in mind to not let them sit in a tray of water because their roots aren't fond of drowning.

CONCLUSION

I hope this how to decorate with indoor plants and the best plants to buy for a healthier home encourages you to get some plants and start decorating.

If you still have more questions about shopping for an indoor plant check out my screened in porch decorating ideas post. In this post, I worked with the local nursery in my town and we meet in the greenhouse and talked about all kinds of plants and different ways to decorate with them.

Best indoor plants from a local nursery greenhouse featuring cactuses and hanging plants.

Another fun place to get indoor plants a house plant subscription box. These make great gifts but if you are a lover of plants then you will absolutely adore getting these treasures in the mail.

You can also watch an interview with the gardeners and a tour of the greenhouse on my Instagram. The greenhouse is so pretty!

Now that you know about some of the best indoor plants and the most popular indoor plants, I hope you're inspired to purchase some to help clean the air in your house and liven up your decor, too.

Knowing the most popular Sherwin Williams paint colors will make selecting the right color so much easier.  This post will not only give you a list of colors to start with when selecting a paint color but will show you examples to help you decide.
Popular Sherwin Williams

Paint is truly one of the easiest and cheapest room transformations in our world of home decor. It can transform a space in one day with a little work and money.  It can change the mood of a room instantly.

It's like magic, but it is so hard to decide when there are hundreds of colors to choose from at Sherwin Williams.

That is why I decided to write a post about the top 12 most popular Sherwin Williams paint colors for your interior and I wrote another post about the popular Sherwin Williams exterior colors too.

Update: This post has been updated on January 21, 2022, to bring you the most popular Sherwin Williams paint colors for this year.

Disclosure: This post is not sponsored by SHERWIN WILLIAMS.  I just really love their paint and wanted to share it with you!

When I came up with this idea I figured the best way to learn would be to call Sherwin Williams stores all over the United States and ask what are the top-selling paint colors at their store.

My husband, Marty, and I contacted stores in Orlando, Atlanta, Boston, St. Louis, Seattle, Phoenix, Los Angles, and Tallahassee.  Tallahassee is the location I physically went to and spoke with.

Now, first, let me say that the Sherwin Williams employees at these locations were so friendly and helpful!  I was amazed at how well they knew their products.  They all would start naming paint colors from memory.

Popular sherwin williams paint colors

They would say, well let's see, how about Accessible Beige, Sea Salt, Tradewind, In the Navy, Repose Gray, Tricorn Black, Alabaster and so on.  You get the picture.

I was surprised when I found many colors that were the same all over America like Repose Gray, Accessible Beige, Alabaster, and Pure White.

Now it is 2022 and we have been working to find those colors that are trending across America again. Here is a list of the most popular paint colors for 2022.

Popluar Sherwin Williams Paint Colors 2022

These colors are in no particular order. They are the top 10 colors we found when doing our research.

  • Aggreable Gray
  • Repose Gray
  • Alabaster
  • Pure White
  • Snowbound
  • Mindful Gray
  • Accessible Beige
  • Kilim Beige
  • Tricorn Black
  • Iron Ore

Green seems to be a trending color this year based on the fact that many paint companies picked some form of green for their color of the year.

Sherwin Williams has a gorgeous green color of the year called Evergreen Fog, SW 9130. If you want color and green is an option try Evergreen Fog or go to my popular Sherwin Williams green paint colors post.

Now if you want to look at what is trending in years past see the colors below. Notice how many of them are still trending. That tells me they are more timeless colors which means if you use a timeless color then you will be in style for many years to come.

Let's time travel to 2020 and just like before we did our research and to our surprise many colors are still the same but there are a few new ones.

Here are what paint colors were trending in 2017.

We try to ask for suggestions in different color categories for example what is your most popular white, gray, beige, black, blue. For this list, I placed like colors together starting with white and ending with black colors.

Popular Sherwin Williams tradewind, sea salt, alabaster

There are lots of other colors that are not on this list but I figured 12 was a good number to start with except for the colors of 2020. We could not exclude a couple so we added them.

Also, as a side note, you might have noticed that Pure White is missing from the photo above.  Unfortunately, they were out of the paint sample at the Tallahassee location.

However, if you click on any of the colors in the bullet list above, it will take to the Sherwin Williams site where you can see the color.

PAINT COLOR TIPS

If you are a play it safe kind of person try Accessible Beige, Agreeable Gray, Repose Gray, and Mindful Gray.

But if you want something for your walls that is timeless and everything matches it go with Alabaster white.

Now if you love nautical decor try Tradewind, In the Navy, naval, and Sea Salt.  Sea Salt also is a great color for modern front doors and farmhouse decor too. Here are more farmhouse paint colors at Life on Summerhill.

And last if you are looking for popular Sherwin William exterior colors I have a whole post dedicated to the outdoors. But tricorn, peppercorn, and iron ore are great colors for doors and shutters.

From our research it looks like warmer tones are starting to come forward. Even warm tone grays fit into this category. I am seeing a shift in color for 2021 to more beige tones but gray has not left us yet.

Gray colors were trending in 2020. If you have gray then you are still in vogue. The gray colors seem to be here to stay but colored accent walls seems to be trending along.

It looks like there is one color that is the most popular Sherwin Williams color for 2021 and that is Agreeable Gray SW 7029. However, most all the stores said they sell the most of Pure White SW 7005 which technically isn't a color but I thought you might like to know.

Now that you know what is trending to help you pick your paint color lets look at some examples.

Here is how to get organized at home and stay organized. From the basics of organizing your home and where to start to declutter. Organizational skills will make your life easier.  What is it about an organized clean room that feels so right?
how to organize your home and stay organized by using baskets

Organizational skills will make your life easier which is why I am sharing how to get organized at home and stay organized along with tips on decluttering.

I love to sit down in a space in my house that has been tidied and is neat! This organizing your home where to start guide will have you sitting back and enjoying your neat home too.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you purchase at no cost to you using the links below.  All opinions are all my own.

How to get organized at home and stay organized

I find myself looking at the same closet or room and feeling overwhelmed.

Can anyone relate?

Let me encourage you.  There is a way to get that room under control.

I have a system that works and has saved me lots of time over the years. I believe that you can do this system too and you will love the end results.

So, where do we begin?

ORGANIZING YOUR HOME WHERE TO START

Let's start by calling a friend.

how to get organized at home and stay organized by contacting a friend as an accountability partner.

I bet you didn't expect this to be your first step.

But I think it is pretty darn important especially if your hesitating on getting started.

Find a friend who might be interested in doing some organizing at their house.  Once you have that friend selected, share with each other what room you're planning to do first.

It's important to have someone who will encourage you through this journey.  It also helps to have someone to bounce ideas off of too. However, not everyone needs a partner, so if you decide not to have one, then that is okay too.

ORGANIZE A CLOSET OR ROOM

Sometimes knowing where to start is the hard part but let me assure you it can be the fun part.

how to organize your home and stay organized by starting with a small project like a messy linen closet

Begin with the room or closet that is the least overwhelming.  Or start with the smallest space.

If you're feeling overwhelmed then starting small might be just the ticket because it will be less intimidating.

A little more manageable.  And you will finish quicker which will give you a sense of sanctification.

This little closet didn't take me long to organize and I used Pinterest to help.

how to get organized at home and stay organized by using baskets

If you're still having trouble deciding which room to start with, discuss it with your accountability partner.  Sometimes it helps to think out loud.

DECLUTTERING AND ORGANIZING

Begin by removing everything in your room or closet.

Oh my goodness, you're thinking!

I have not lost my mind. I promise I have not. LOL!

Start with one item at a time and pull it out and place it in a designated pile.

For example, if it is trash put it in a garbage pile if it is a donated item make a collection if it goes in another room or closet make delivery stacks to that chamber.

Once you have everything in a pile then put the donated items in your car, trash in the garbage can outside, and other items in their spaces.

how to organize your home and stay organized by using baskets to store books

CLEAN AND DECORATING YOUR SPACE

Here is an excellent opportunity to give it a good cleaning and possibly some decorating. This is a great time to paint too.

If it's a closet, you can do some fun decor in there too.  You might find you like keeping things tidy if there are fresh, fun paint colors and some lovely baskets with cute chalkboard labels.

These fun baskets options will give you some inspiration.

The main thing is to have some fun with this.  And do what makes you feel pretty.

A great place to get some ideas for decorating your space is to go to my Pinterest.  I have lots of boards with an abundance of ideas.

how to organize your home and stay organized by hanging hats on hooks

EASY ORGANIZATIONAL PLAN

Here is another fun part!

Now you have removed anything that doesn't belong in the space and left with many beautiful things to put back.  Telling you how to create your plan is the tricky part because not every space is alike.  But think about your space in compartments.  Look at what is left to go into the room and divide it up into families.

For example, if you are working on a linen closet make a stack of king size sheets, queen, full, and twin.  Here is how to fold sheets neatly in another post. See how you will never have to dig for all the pieces of a set ever again. Then make a pile of blankets.

Oh, and those items you may be pulled out once a year put in a pile.  They will go great in the out of reach space.  Mainly, find a home for each item.  If it doesn't make sense to go in that area, then put it in another room.

ACCESSORIZE ROOM BY ROOM

Whether you plan to decorate or not it is vital to have some organizing pieces to help your items have a home.  If you are working in the kitchen, look at compartments for your silverware or canisters for your cooking utensils.

There are many options out there like these ideas I put together in a post of favorite organizational pieces.

PLACING EVERYTHING IN ITS NEW SPACE

Now we have everything divided, so let's place it back in its space.

Think neat!

What I mean is take the time to stack it neatly or put it intentionally.   And use those baskets or containers that you purchased as a part of your plan.

Don't be surprised if a holder doesn't work or you need another size.  That has happened to me many times.

HOW TO KEEP MY HOME ORGANIZED

Everything has a new home.

How do you keep it that way?

Well, my rule is that if I pick it up, then it is not leaving my hand until it goes in a designated pile to go to its space or I take it directly to its home.  You spent a lot of time and effort to create this beautiful place then why not enjoy it for an unlimited amount of time.

And don't forget that family meeting where you share with everyone your new strategy for keeping it tidy.  Believe it or not, most of the time everyone else is proud of their new space too, and they will make an effort to keep it that way.

Organizing Homelife

Well, are you in for some organizing homelife?

I know you can do it and once you are finished it is time to reward yourself.

I am all about celebrating!

Invite your accountability partner over to see the result.  Go out and celebrate with your family or friend.  But whatever you do take some time to pat yourself on the back.

You deserved it!

Conclusion

Remember that closet in the beginning?

Well, I wrote a whole post about that closet and it shows the end result.  Hop on over and check it out. And if you are thinking of organizing where you hang your clothes then you will love organizing clothes by color. It makes all the difference.

Confession Time. Using chicken nesting boxes in your homes left us scratching our head a little.

How do you get one clean enough to bring into your house?

Then, we checked out how our Instagram friends were using them in their decor, and we have fallen for them as we think you will if you haven't already.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you make a purchase using the links below.  All opinions are all my own.

CHICKEN NESTING BOXES

We're excited to invite you on this transformation journey and hear how it leaves you inspired. Chicken nesting boxes have so many different uses and aren't just for hens anymore.

Miss Mustard Seed

Chicken Nesting Boxes Miss Mustard Seed

Miss Mustard Seed writes a blog that we follow, and are often inspired by her and how she decorates her home (inside and out).

So, when we saw the craze for repurposing chicken nesting boxes, we thought we'd see what her take was on them. She has written a post about how she made a potting bench and incorporated a chicken nesting box on top of an old workbench. It turned out lovely, and the nesting spots make a great storage bin!

Junque Cottage

Chicken Nesting Boxes Junque Cottage

Using a nesting box as part of a buffet is genius! It makes the perfect top to a floating hutch.

Laura lives on a farm, so there is no doubt she has the farmhouse look down pat.

The Farmhouse 31

Chicken Nesting Boxes The Farmhouse 31

You met Resa before in our Farmhouse Kitchen post (where she allowed us to show you her watermelon stand kitchen island).

Now, she's allowed us to peak inside her dining room where she uses a nesting box to hold plates and such.

And check out that vintage scale while you're looking!

Happy Camper RV

Mary and her family are working toward living a minimalist lifestyle. Using a chicken nesting box as a bookshelf is an excellent step toward their goal! They make great little nooks for all sorts of things.

A Bushel & A Peck XO

Chicken Nesting Boxes A Bushel And A Peck XO

Struggling to find the right headboard for her family's bungalow, Julie came up with the idea to use this nesting box.

We think it turned out great!

It's rustic, and it gives this an out-of-the-box use for this piece (pun intended).

 Glamping Sisters

Chicken Nesting Boxes Glamping Sisters

Upcycling a nesting box gave Thea more closet space and is brilliant! She's put many great things in it, and it's inspiring to become a shoe station to hold and organize the numerous pairs of shoes you have.

Newly Farmhoused

Look at this beautifully placed chicken nesting box! Hanging on a shiplap wall is exactly where it belongs.

We've seen a nesting box used in a potting station, but maybe you don't have a green thumb. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy flowers around your home! This little vignette area brings so much life to this room.

Down In The Boondocks

Isn't this little curtain accent so sweet on this nesting box of Amber's? The rusted, time-worn stamp of the farm over time gives this such a rustic chic look. Not to mention the farmhouse sign looks perfect hung right on top!

A Beautiful Purpose

Chicken Nesting Boxes A Beautiful Purpose

Jacey runs an upscale antique boutique and has styled this chicken nester as a bookshelf. It's fun to be able to use the shelf on top to display more antique farmhouse type pieces.

Dear Chelsi Decor

Where are our Rae Dunn fans?

Bet you have been thinking all along about the pieces you could display in a nesting box. Chelsi doesn't disappoint. She has several Rae Dunn pieces in her nesting box as well as cotton stems that scream farmhouse!

Rustic Meadows Home

This chicken nesting box styled to be part of a flower market turned out beautiful! It encompasses all things efflorescent.

Randi's home is farmhouse chic in so many ways.

The Wooded Pine House

Jenn has styled this nesting box so sweetly.

The eggs really stand out in this galvanized box. There is so much farmhouse love in this photo.

Little Farmstead

Chicken Nesting Boxes Little Farmstead

We're not entirely off our rockers.

We know it's not Christmas.

But, we loved the way this nesting box was used as a Christmas Advent Calendar. Thinking outside of the box is one of the things we love most about the farmhouse community.

Just think.

How many different events could you countdown to using this chicken nesting box? Days until schools out, days until vacation, days until a birthday.

The possibilities are endless.

Conclusion

We have to admit, just doing this post and gathering together all of these adorable ways to incorporate chicken nesting boxes into your farmhouse has caused us to fall head over heels with the idea of bringing one into our home.

How about you?

Do you already have one?

We'd love to see how you've been inspired by these chicken nesting boxes ideas!

Family Shiplap & Dunn

Chicken Nesting Boxes by Family Shiplap & Dunn with a chicken nesting box filled with lemon decor

Since you all have loved the chicken nesting boxes we showed off we couldn't resist featuring a few more than 13. This one filled with lemon decor and Rae Dunn pieces belongs to Michelle.

It's rustic and fits perfectly into a farmhouse.

Seffrin Southern Comfort

This chicken nesting box looks great in Kenzie's mudroom. Not to mention adorning this shiplap wall.

Fixing Up Our Forever

Alisha's nesting box has adorable buffalo check banner dressing it up and wooden beads hung just right.

The ‘Chicken For Sale' sign hanging above the chicken nesting box pulls together the farmhouse wall with ease.

We trust you don't mind us having added a few more chicken nesting boxes. They are like the bow on top of an already perfectly wrapped package.

Today let's make a tea light Christmas village using natural Christmas decor.  Let's get started making this adorable gingerbread inspired DIY apple candle village and then I want to share twenty-one other creative Christmas decoration ideas at the end of the post.
Tea light Christmas village. How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village

Years ago, I made an orange tea light candle. It was so easy to make until I wanted to try it on other pieces of fruit. So, I decided to try an apple, but this time I wanted to take it a little further and make it into a tea light Christmas village.

I love using items around the house when decorating, and I love using natural Christmas decor during the holidays. So what is natural Christmas decor?  Well, it is using items from nature to decorate your home for the holidays.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you make a purchase using the links below. All opinions are all my own.

Tea Light Christmas Village DIY

Last year we moved in the direction of simple Christmas decorations but this year are adding more natural elements. To get the inspiration flowing, we rounded up in another post some beautiful minimalist Christmas decorations.

But whether you are a minimalist or not this DIY  tea light apple village will add charm to your home for the holidays.

So, let's get started creating these sweet little beauties!

Natural Christmas Decor: Candle Apple Village

Let's begin by pulling out all your supplies.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village supplies

Step 1: Place Tea Light in Candle

Now sit your tea light on top of the apple.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village tealight

Cut straight down around the tea light being careful not to cut yourself.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village. Cut the hole for the tealight.

Drive your pairing knife in at an angle towards the center all the way around.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village. Cut the hole for the tealight

The top should pop out when it is entirely cut.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village. Cut the hole for the tealight

Next cut about a half inch straight down all the way around and then place your spoon down the cut and scoop out the apple inside.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village. Scoop out the inside of the apple.

Follow the last step by placing the tealight into the hole and pressing down from the center of the candle.  Keep pressing until the light is even with the top of the apple or just below.

Do not press the metal part because it will bend.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village. Press the tealight down in the hole.

Step 2: Paint a Christmas House on Apple Candle

Now it is the time to start painting.  Start drawing lines at different lengths all the way around the top.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village

Next, draw the door.

Be creative with the door and add dots, dashes, lines or whatever will give it that gingerbread look.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village. Paint the door.

Next, add the windows again add character as you go along.

And before you know it the project is completed.

This gingerbread inspired natural Christmas decor idea is fun for the whole family.

Step 3: Create a Village with Tea Light Candle Houses

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village

Place your apple tea light village on a flat surface, staggering the houses. Then set bottle brush trees around the houses. Once you have all the apple houses and trees in place sprinkle with snow everywhere.

One your village is set you can light your candles. When the candles run out, simply pull the tea lights out and pop in another candle.

Conclusion

Adding some natural Christmas decor elements to your home adds character.  Your designs will be one of a kind that no one can purchase in a store.

How to make a gingerbread inspired apple candle house village.

So, gather whatever fruit you have and some other tools and begin to create your gingerbread inspired little village.

Then add some trees, snow, and light the candles for a very special holiday decoration.  I bought these trees at a store but you can make trees from my DIY bottle brush trees post.  And if you love candles consider making your own like this how to make teacup candles.

Mothers day tablescape idea outdoors

In my life, I have had many mothers, which is why I couldn't wait to share a Mother's Day table set up idea with you. Because I am the youngest of three sisters, my older siblings, who were teenagers when I was born, seem to have thought they were my moms, too.

So, in addition to my Grandmothers and Sisters, I had a total of five mother figures. Today, only one of those mother figures is left.

My sister and I creating a mother's day tablescape idea

Lucky for me, she helped me come up with a Mother's day table setting idea for all of you!  And in addition to the Mother's Day tablescape, we came up with some Mother's Day gift ideas too so you will be completely prepared for a Mother's Day celebration.

MOTHER'S DAY TABLE SET UP IDEA

Mothers day tablescape idea outdoor brunch

This time of year in Florida is a great time to do an outdoor brunch.  The weather is usually pleasant, which makes for the perfect picnic environment. While there are many different ways to celebrate Mother's Day, this is one of my favorite. It's a great way to make a special day fun and festive.

So, check your local forecast and consider taking this party outside.

First of all, you want to think about a theme. For this event, I began creating with some history in mind.  Every mother figure in my life has been raised in Florida, except for one who was raised in Georgia but later raised her children in Florida.

So, I first thought about creating a table design around a Florida theme. It has such a fun, summery vibe with beautiful bright colors. Here is what you will need to create Mother's day table setting idea like mine.

How to create a Mother's day table set up?

Next, you want to gather your supplies. Decorating a table for Mother's day is easy. You can bring out your good china or keep it simple with your everyday dishes. The table decorations can be simple or elaborate. Create a lovely centerpiece then coordinate the place settings to match. Beautiful tablescapes do not need to be complicated. Now let's grab supplies to create this Mother's day table set up.

Supplies

MOTHER'S DAY FLORIDA THEMED TABLE SETTING

Mothers day tablescape idea garden brunch table decor

When I think of Florida, I think of the ocean, palm trees, and citrus.  I decided I wanted the table to be colorful and happy. This made picking my color scheme easy. Oranges and blue fit the bill. And fresh flowers are a must. Here's how I created my Mothers Day table set up.

TABLECLOTH AND TABLE

Next, I thought about the tablecloth. I am using a square card table. It was too small for a table runner. Instead, I used two long rectangle tablecloths folded in half and placed them in opposite directions so that the table was covered to the ground on each side.

A white tablecloth provides the base. The blue block print tablecloth I purchase years ago but there are lots of other blue block print table cloths on the market.

CHAIRS

If you've gone to all this trouble to create a beautiful table, then why not bring out some of your good chairs?  Here I selected my breakfast table white rush seat chairs. I thought the white rush seat chairs would complement nicely. If you want to dress the chairs up even more, check out my post about creating beautiful May Day baskets and a letter to mom you can hang on the back of each chair.

Beautiful white and rush seat chairs for an outdoor mother's day table setting

But you know another seating idea to add that would be fun especially if you have a younger guest.  Adding a hammock or hammock chair swings outside.

Talk about cozy and dreamy!  Here are some that I thought would be perfect with this idea.

TROPICAL CENTERPIECE IDEA

Mothers day tablescape idea centerpiece oranges

Fresh flowers are an inexpensive way but beautiful way to set the mood of your Mother’s Day table setting. You can usually find beautiful fresh flowers at your local grocery store. For the centerpiece, I originally planned something a little more substantial, but when my sister and I put it in place, we realized it was way too much. Your flower arrangements should complement the table, not overwhelm it.

So, my sister went back to the drawing board, or in this case the kitchen, and came out with this tropical flower and orange beauty.

I have to say I loved it!

This brings me to a bit of advice: Whenever you're planning an event, sometimes you have to roll with the punches if you know what I mean. Your Mother's Day table set up is no exception.

Mothers day tablescape idea quote

If something doesn't work, don't throw in the towel! Just keep trying! Some of my best creations have happened because my first ideas weren't right.

The one element I particularly like here is the small satsumas at the bottom of the clear round vase. They provide the perfect pop of color. For the flowers, I tried to go with a tropical look.  These flowers were the closest I could find after looking at several grocery stores. I also added some palm fronds in there to add to the native design.

ORANGE CANDLES

Mothers day tablescape idea orange candle

Here's an old trick, and one that is so easy! Purchase some oranges that are kind of flat on the bottom, then cut the top off enough for the width of a Tealight.

Once you have an opening, take a small, sharp knife and cut straight down and around inside.  Then scoop out the pulp and set your light inside.

Sometimes I have to scoop a little here and there until it fits down inside just the way I like it.

I have added a video on how to make an orange candle in this post or you can go to my YouTube channel and watch the orange candle DIY there too. Such a fun twist on a traditional candle stick holder. It will add a wonderful pop of color to your Mother's Day table set up.

HOW TO MAKE PAPER PLACEMATS

Mothers day tablescape idea place setting with old photo

There is so much to share about these Mother's day table settings! So, let's start from the bottom up and give credit where credit is due.

The paper placemats are an idea all over Pinterest. I love that this idea does double duty of both the placemat and name place card. I purchased banner paper and cut it to fit the size I wanted.  Then, I used a chalk pen to draw the lines, write the name, and cut little designs in the corners. This is the kind of personalized touch that makes your Mother's Day tablescape so special.

I also decided to let the paper mat fall down the side of the table a little just to add another creative feature to my Mother's Day table set up.

MOTHER'S DAY TABLE SET UP

CHINA

Next, I decided to use my sister's china.  This lovely floral china was a perfect fit for the theme. The blue complemented the vibrant orange color of my inspiration. I thought the combination made a beautiful table setting. But do not feel you have to use china; any dinnerware will work like these plates I found that look similar.

mothers day tablescape idea featuring china and silver

SILVERWARE

Now if you love this silverware it is called Pickard Festival. Alternatively, if that is a little out of your budget then try these similar ones by Oneida.

LINEN NAPKIN

Next, a simple white cloth linen napkin rests on the plate with an orange leaf, a satsuma, and a fond memory of your Mom on top in the form of an old photo. I love how the orange provides a fun pop of color in contrast to the white linen. These are the touches that will make your Mother's Day table set up exceptional.

OLD PHOTOS

Mothers day tablescape idea old photo

  • Knife

Instructions

    1. I used two long rectangle tablecloths folded in half and placed them in opposite directions so that the table was covered to the ground on each side.
    2. I selected my breakfast table white rush seat chairs.
    3. For the flowers, I tried to go with a tropical look. I added small satsumas at the bottom of the clear round vase. I also added some palm fronds in there to add to the native design.
    4. Purchase some oranges that are kind of flat on the bottom, then cut the top off enough for the width of a tealight. Once you have an opening, take a small, sharp knife and cut straight down and around inside.  Then scoop out the pulp and set your light inside.
    5. The paper placemats do double duty of both the placemat and name place card. I purchased banner paper and cut it to fit the size I wanted.  Then, I used a chalk pen to draw the lines, write the name, and cut little designs in the corners.
    6. I decided to use my sister's china. But do not feel you have to use china; any dinnerware will work like these plates I found that look similar.
    7. Now if you love this silverware it is called Pickard Festival. Alternatively, if that is a little out of your budget then try these similar ones by Oneida.
    8. Next, a simple white cloth linen napkin rests on the plate with an orange leaf, a satsuma, and a fond memory of your Mom on top in the form of an old photo.

Notes

I had all of the supplies on hand for this project so my expenses were limited to the banner paper, fresh flowers, and oranges. Your expenses may be different if you need to purchase more supplies.

Decorating with old Christmas decorations

We all have old Christmas decorations from pieces that belonged to family to thrifted to vintage antiques. No matter if you have new old pieces or ones that grandma made here are ways to incorporate old decorations with new holiday decor

OLD CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Many times we are given old Christmas decorations that belonged to the family and it is very special but it doesn't fit into our Christmas design.

Decorating with old Christmas decoration like sled and books

Or you find a piece at a thrift store that calls to your heart like this sled I used on our outdoor Christmas porch and this book I used in decorating with favorite Christmas books. You purchase it because it reminds you of your childhood but it doesn't go with your holiday color scheme.

This post will help you find a way to incorporate those treasures into your current design or transition you to a new Christmas color scheme so your old decorations fit into your interiors design without breaking the bank.

HOW TO DECORATE WITH OLD HOLIDAY DECORATIONS

In our house, we have lots of old holiday decorations that we love. Some belonged to family while others we have had for many many years so now they are old.

We love our Christmas decorations to coordinate with the colors of our home. Not everyone likes this idea but I thought since we are transitioning to a new color scheme this would be a great time to show you how to incorporate old decorations into your new holiday decor.

We don't have an unlimited amount of money to make this transformation but that's not stopping us.  Here are 5 things we plan to use to transform our old Christmas decorations into a new look that works with our current living room decor.

CHRISTMAS DECORATING WITH RIBBON

Every Christmas home should have ribbons in their decor.  There are so many places you can use ribbons with old Christmas decorations.

Changing the ribbon on your tree can completely change the look of your tree.  You can go from a classic style with a white/gold ribbon to a rustic nature tree with warm plaid.

Ribbons are also great for hanging old holiday pictures, hanging vintage wreaths, or tieing a bow around a statue. Pick a ribbon that fits with your vintage Christmas decorations to transform your new color scheme.

Christmas Decorations Burlap Bow

Here is where we tied a ribbon around an old sled we found at a thrift store to pull it into the color scheme on our back porch.

CHRISTMAS PILLOW DECORATING

We love holiday pillows with cute Christmas designs on them!!!  This is a big way to change colors to bring in your antique holiday decorations.

Make sure whatever new holiday pillow you purchase has the color of your chair, bed, or couch in it.  We love taking solid color pillows and then adding a new accent pillow to bring the two colors together.

Your accent pillow can easily bring in the color of the thrifted Christmas decorations.

DECORATING WITH GREENERY AND FLORALS

It is so important to include greenery or florals items into your Christmas design.

Borrow from outdoors! The options here, are endless and cheap. LOL! Go pick out pinecones, boxwood cuttings, or whatever fancies you and bring it inside.

stems of greenery added to holiday decorations

There are tons of crafty ideas on Pinterest to do with natural elements and seasonal decor.  Our favorite pinecone idea is to spray paint them gold.  We first saw this at my mother-in-law's home on Christmas a long time ago.  She had them sitting in a beautiful solid colored bowl on her coffee table in the living room.

Christmas Decorations Boxwood Wreath

We love to hang greenery or florals wreaths on windows using the same ribbon throughout the house to tie it all together. Here I show you how to hang wreaths on windows.

VINTAGE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

One of our favorite things to do when holiday decorating is to find seasonal accessories that fit my style and decor.  A great place to start looking for Christmas accessories is with family.

Share with your family that you are working on changing your holiday color scheme and ask them if they have any old decorations in those colors that they don't want anymore.  You will be surprised at how many people have a box in their attic of decorations that don't work now.

But if that is not an option then take some time to browse around and look for anything that would fit nicely on your bookcase, end table, or hanging over a mirror.

This bird is new but he fits nicely into many of our old pieces. It really makes a home feel cozy to mix old and new pieces.

VINTAGE CHRISTMAS ART DECORATING

Here is an area that I am going to pour my soul out.  Years ago my sister, who just passed this year, bought me a Thomas Kinkade print of a house at Christmas.  Every year I pull this beautiful piece of art out and hang it on my fireplace.

I just never knew how much that piece of art would mean to me one day.  So if you have something that doesn't fit your decor but it means the world to you then go for it and use it.  Lucky for me this piece works.

But there are so many other ways you can change your look with art.  Like wooden letters painted and hung with a ribbon or cute printables that you can frame yourself.

Conclusion

There are so many memories wrapped up in our Christmas decorations until it is almost impossible to start completely over but if you follow these five items you can transform your vintage decoration into a whole new look.

Did you like that word vintage?  It makes our new design sounds so fancy.

What ideas do you have to brighten up your old decorations?
