But before we begin let me share what the word wainscot means, it means wooden paneling on the lower part of the walls of a room according to the dictionary. So, to begin this journey, we are going to take a short home tour of my house to give you some inspiration and a place to start your research. Let's start with the foyer and the first raised panel farmhouse wainscot idea.RAISED PANEL WAINSCOT
Farmhouse styles can range from very rustic to modern. This wainscot is an excellent example of modern and more classic. There are many ways to get this look but the way I installed this one was super easy, and I didn't have to interrupt the baseboard.BEADBOARD WAINSCOT
Now on to the girl's bathroom. When I started planning the design for this room I wanted something more informal but still classic. It was a simple decision to do the beadboard. The beauty of beadboard is that it can be dressed up or down merely with the paint or finish. The other thing I like about this beadboard is that it is vinyl, but I did paint over it to seal the cracks. And here is an overall view of the farmhouse style beadboard.PICTURE MOLD WAINSCOT
Okay, so should we call this wainscot since it is not in the lower half of the room? Maybe not but I always want to encourage to think outside of the box. In this scenario, people used to hang a rail about 12 to 15 inches from the ceiling and then hang wires to art from the rail. It is such a lovely look that I want to add it to the farmhouse wainscot ideas list.SHIPLAP
Now you know you cannot talk farmhouse trim without talking about shiplap. I have had a soft spot for shiplap since I grew up in a small town not from far from here. My grandma had a breezeway that had shiplap on the walls. You see her whole exterior was shiplap because that was the wood finish back in the early 1900's so naturally, shiplap was what her walls on her breezeway. When we added our porch it just seemed natural to do the shiplap but little did I know that years later this would be a super popular treatment. Consider shiplap on your porch or inside your home. It looks so wonderful! Well, now that you have some farmhouse wainscot ideas let's think about paint next, and I have a great post for you to start making those paint color selections.
